    Cadillac Margarita
    B N.

Happy Cinco De Mayo! We were the first ones there this evening and arrived 20 minutes before our reservation. We were seated right away and ordered cocktails. She had the Cadillac Margarita and I ordered the Hibiscus Margarita. Both were very good. We ordered the yellowtail ceviche with the blue corn tortilla chips. The presentation and portion was impressive. This was put together very well and the freshness of all the combined ingredients were spot on. What a great start. We ordered our entrees and inquired about the wine by the glass selections. Unfortunately, this is where things started to go South. Our nice young server (first night serving) didn't know anything about the wines. They had wines from various regions that we were unfamiliar with the names and profiles. My wife chose a Malbec from Argentina which we are somewhat familiar with and I rolled the dice and selected a Sauvignon Blanc from Baja California. We asked for a sample taste of each and our server left and didn't come back until 5 minutes after our entrees were served. Fortunately both wines were good so they came back soon after with full glasses. My wife ordered the elk chops with crimini mushrooms and bacon on top of a black garlic mash potato. The presentation was beautiful. Her first bite and instantly her face looked like she was about to hurl. Apparently the first bite was grissle. She reluctantly pushed on and was careful on the next bites and said the elk was chewy. This is not how elk should be. I cook game proteins often. Elk should not be chewy. I checked it out and saw one chop was a little overcooked (medium) and the other chop was cooked proper with a hard sear and medium rare. She did say the few mushrooms and bacon she had were good. LOL! I had the whole fried red snapper with crab risotto and broccolini. This was impressive looking when it arrived and the fish was fried perfect. Unfortunately the risotto under the fish was al dente, pasty, and a little dry.. The cook did not use enough broth to cook the rice through gradually and reduced down and repeat with the broth like a good creamy risotto should be cooked. My wife hardly ate her meal and was still hungry and ordered their churros. You can't go wrong with homemade churros. When they arrived, it looked promising, but that first bite was very sweet and the exterior was over fried and the interior was doughy and not a good texture. If I had to guess, the oil was too hot when they fried them. What a bummer. Everything seemed disjointed and not executed correctly after the cocktails and appetizer. Perhaps it was an off night because there are a lot of good reviews. I wish we could have gave a good review because everything was presented so nice.

    Duck legs confit.

Some friends recommended Zacatlan, so we decided to try it for dinner. My wife and I shared the rice paper Ceeasar salad, then she ordered the lamb shank barbacoa, and I had the duck legs confit. Both dishes were excellent, with lots of flavor, although each was slightly overcooked. As you can see from the photos, the portions are large. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely dine here again during our next trip to Santa Fe.

Rating 3.5, putting 3 since Yelp wont allow me to do half stars. We were staying in Santa Fe and were recommended to try this place by the concierge at our hotel. We thought we would give it a shot, and were pretty disappointed. We tried the Pork Belly, the Caesar salad, the chile relleno, the lamb shank, and the churros. Overall, the flavors just weren't there for me. The pork belly was tender and well cooked but was not that flavorful at all. It was also paired with a strawberry rhubarb tamal which I thought would be interesting but didn't pair well with the pork in my opinion. The lamb shank was perfectly cooked and fell right off the bone. The sauce, beans, and green rice were good but somewhat muted in terms of flavor. I will say the hot sauce that is paired with it, was a nice touch. The churros were the redeeming factor for me and the reason for the 3.5 versus a 3. They were absolutely delish. The caramel and chocolate sauce were really good and the churros were even filled with a cinnamon sugar middle. The service was not on par with what I would expect from a highly regarded restaurant like this. For example, we waited over 20 mins for the churros after placing the order and were not offered dessert options until we asked for the menu. You could almost tell the server was annoyed with us even though we didn't do anything to warrant it. I hate to say this, but I likely wouldn't send anyone here if they are looking for a good meal in Santa Fe.

The Pork Shank Cochinita Pibil were served with mole negro, which I think was a bit too strong for me; a bit more sweet plantain would have helped balance it more. The Elk chops were excellent. Service was great.

    Pork shank cochinita Phil

My service here was outstanding. I ordered the pork shank cochinita pibil and it came out extremely fast. The mole was a divine blend of dark chocolate cinnamon and ancho. It was great and paired well with the plantains in the plate. The pickled onion added just the right amount of acid for each bite and I would suggest having more of them on the plate and less meat. It was a huge portion. The Tamal side was unique and more like a pudding, but I loved it.

Superb ambience. Superb food. The vegetarian tower was delectable - who knew marinated tomatoes, eggplant, Avacado, and pesto was so good you'd eat it off the floor!!!! The Robin's Egg was a piece of art. Coconut outer shell. Inner strawberry and raspberry compote. Whipped cream. And the yolk was a hand made mango gelatinous ball that "broke and oozed" just like the yolk of an egg!! We will return the next time we're in Santa Fe to try their other menu items. The Mole Negro is simply the best I've ever eaten anywhere in the continental US.

While in Santa Fe for work, my dad's business colleagues had a meal at Zacatlan and we got to tag along. We were so thrilled with our experience. First and foremost, the staff were wonderful. They were kind, patient, and helpful. We had a lot of split check requests, as well as a birthday celebration request. They handled all requests with grace, kindness, and professionalism. Thank you!!! Second, the space is darling! Quaint and intimate, the restaurant has a surprising amount of space for tables and is filled with delightful local art and character. We loved the overall ambiance and general vibe. A perfect reflection of Santa Fe and New Mexican art and architecture! Next up, the drinks were great! With a wide selection of signature cocktails, wines, and local beers, there is a lot to choose from! My spouse got the 7K IPA from Santa Fe Brewery and I got the Hibiscus Margarita. Both were scrumptious. Several other folks got drinks and enjoyed their beverages. The food was the star of the show. Several folks started with the burrata and that was a crowd pleaser. I got the elk medallion special and it was DIVINE and very filling. My spouse got the duck and LOVED the spicy mole sauce. My parents shared the lobster Mac and cheese and loved the flavors. They said it was a bit zippy! Several folks decided to get dessert. The Churros and Flourless Chocolate Cale were crowd pleasers. They brought a Churro dessert with a candle for my dad's birthday and we all sang for him. A wonderful celebration! The prices are expensive, but you pay for the high quality ingredients and innovative recipes! Plan accordingly. Reservations are available and are recommended to ensure you have a spot for dinner. We loved our dinner at Zacatlan and will definitely return the next time we are in town and are looking for an upscale and fabulous dinning experience!

December 2025; Christmas Eve special dinner menu. The food, service and ambiance were all average. The tables were close to each other therefore not a lot of space to move around or have intimate conversation. Each dish was VERY rich. Flavors did not mesh well together. Monkfish chewy, lobster bisque overly rich with little lobster, desserts tasted spiked with alcohol. Only positive: plating was pretty.

Our first restaurant- for brunch- after arriving in Santa Fe. Our friends wanted to try this spot and we were seated right away. The sauce is a converted home with side dining areas pocketed off the small room where you enter. Ambiance is tastefully decorated Mexican and southwestern with sunlight pouring through windows in late morning. We started with a basket of excellent homemade crisp tortillas, house made salsas and guacamole. Our table ordered molé negro, huevos rancheros rojos and scrambled eggs with heirloom cherry tomatoes, wilted arugula and salsa. All of our dishes were filling and tasty but not over the top. Would like to return to try dinner and drinks.

    Squash blossoms

Can't recommend this place enough. My husband and I came here while visiting from out of town and I'm so glad we stopped here. Christian, our server, was incredible and his recommendations were perfect. We had the squash blossoms as an appetizer, the chile relleno and elk chops for our entrees, and the bread pudding for dinner. Every part of this meal was perfection!

Beautiful spot and cute decor. Great service as well. The pear salad and the bone marrow were delicious. Now to the entree.. the whole red snapper, I was so excited about this, I love whole fish bone, head and everything. However when the fish arrived there was so much going on with the meal (sea photos) , I can't even articulate it well. There was cheesy risotto inside with broccolini and fish fillet etc.. and It wasn't that good either for how it was presented and the fish was dry out for being over fried, sticking to the bones ( most likely frozen fish) It was hard to eat and absolutely the most obnoxious food presentation I've dealt with lol

Just call it mango juice because that is what it was. The only bright spot of the entire meal was our waiter. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely great. I ordered the barbacoa plate, which came with four incredibly tiny tacos and beans. For $22, I was honestly shocked at how little meat was in each taco. Maybe a tablespoon at most. On top of that, the barbacoa had so many burnt pieces that they completely overpowered the flavor. I could barely taste anything besides char. I only finished it because I was starving. The beans were somehow even worse. They tasted like plain boiled beans with absolutely no seasoning. Not even salt. My girlfriend ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole for $28, and they were just as disappointing. It was basically two tiny rolled tortillas with the chicken sitting next to them instead of inside them. It made no sense. The mole sauce was decent, but it leaned much sweeter than savory. The only thing we left talking about was how disappointed we were. For the prices they charge, the portions and quality were nowhere close to worth it. We actually stopped at the Valero down the street afterward so I could grab a Milky Way ice cream because I was still hungry. That ended up being the best part of the night. Restaurant was beautiful too I guess.

The shrimp and the vegetable appetizers were kind of ehhh. I did love the green chile stew. The enchiladas were good but nothing special. I also got a paloma and it was strong. Definitely tasted mezcal but not much of the other flavors. Also, they corrected their mistake but I did call in a reservation. It took three phone calls on two different days. The person who picked up took my reservation but apparently did NOT record it in their reservation book. When we got there our reservation was no where to be found and even worse, the hostess said this had been happening a few times but they didn't know who was taking these reservations and not writing them down. Now if it was a one off, I'm just unlucky, but if you're telling me it's an issue, I think it's something management should really work harder on solving. The hostess was nice enough to be like you'll be our first priority for seating if any reservations don't show up and we were able to get a table fairly quickly which I really do appreciate. Other than that one staff issue with the reservation, the other staff were all amazing and our waitress came by a few times to check in on us and her and other staff came around to refill water.

The atmosphere is upscale and beautiful--love the decor and artwork. The service was on point; our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food this time was just ok, except for the Sopa de Amor: Chef Olea's signature soup--that was heaven in our mouths. The steak (Popocatepetl: spicy black pepper crusted aged angus beef tenderloin / red cabbage and snow peas in cilantro vinaigrette / jasmine rice) we shared looked nothing like the description. Either our server was clueless regarding gluten-free, because this wasn't up to our standards for a high-end restaurant--the flavor wasn't the same as we remembered from several years ago, and the steak (medium rare) inside was colder--not room temperature, so I ended up not eating all of mine. Plus we had to ask for rice--which should have come with our meal since there isn't flour or any ingredients that would have made this harmful to me. Also, the side of asparagus it came with wasn't bright green and crispy--it was yellowish and flimsy-looking and tasting. For the price, this should have been more on point than what it was. We had split a steak, shared a soup, had a bottle of wine, two glasses of champagne, and a dessert--oh, and a $12 split change (something they suggested--even though my partner and I were fine eating from the same plate)...the bill was almost $400 with tax & tip. The dessert however, was presented beautifully with mixed berries and a liquor which was then lit on fire--a festive dessert option since I have a gluten allergy. There are so many wonderful restaurants. Unfortunately, the food did not leave us craving to come back for more. If the service and decor wasn't so impressive, Sazon would have received one stars.
