No straws (not even the paper ones) because . . . because other countries dump plastic in their rivers? Save the sea turtles? Whatever, it's Santa Fe. Annoying, but ignore it and enjoy the patio. The food is tasty and the service we had was very good. Museum Hill Cafe is generally busy with elderly, retired folks (I'm retired and getting there, but we brought the average age of the crowd down a good bit): mostly couples and ladies-who-lunch. If you're planning on going, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. And (a nod to the age of the crowd who come here) be aware there's a bit of a climb up from the spacious museum parking lots to the restaurant itself; give yourself time and take your cane if you need it. read more

We had an exceptional experience here on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I had the Cobb salad, and iced tea and the pistachio cream pie. Salad was excellent, service was perfect. July 23, 2024 Conveniently located next to multiple museums outside of Santa Fe. Sit down eating under the shade, with good ambiance, and table service. Wifes $19 stuffed poblano came with several large shrimp covered with cheese, pico de gallo, rice and greens in a baked flour shell. Wife had no left overs it was so good. My $20 Angus beef burger came with green chiles stuffed and cooked within the beef patty, and not with chiles sprinkled over the patty, and was excellent. We decided to take a trip up to the museums on Museum Hill on a Saturday. I'd never been to the cafe and it was close, so decided to give it a try around brunch/lunch time. It was definitely a busy time, but we got seated promptly and our service was great. Our server was great about refilling coffees and waters and checking up on us despite how busy things were. I got the corn custard, not really knowing what to expect but it sounded good and it did not disappoint. It was like a corn-based squishy quiche with some peppery sauce. Delicious! If I'm up here again I'll definitely go back to try more items. It's a nice place with some southwestern decor and just fun. Highly recommend if you're in the area. After strolling through the museums, we needed a break so stopped by the Museum Hill Cafe. The outside patio was nicely covered and there was a pleasant breeze. The crowd had died down by 2, earlier when we passed by, it was very loud and crowded. Service was a bit slow but they were all nice. Me and The Hubs were visiting SF in early May this year and stopped in here for lunch while visiting the 'museums on the hill'. To note: this is the only restaurant on the hill, so if you want lunch without leaving the area, this is your only option unless you brought something (I did see picnic tables). I would suggest getting to the cafe before noon. We weren't quite ready for lunch at 11:45 but did it anyway. It worked out great - we got here before the line of folks who probably said 'let's meet at noon'. Anyway, again this was early May. We waited for less than five minutes for a table and were seated indoors at a nice spot by a window (it was too windy that day to eat outside on their nice-looking patio). While we were being escorted to our table, I turned around and saw that there was a line forming of people waiting for tables (if you come during the high tourist season, I imagine you should expect a long wait). We shared the Corn Custard for a starter. It was really good (I wished I had gotten one just for myself). For an entree, I had the Greek Salad with salmon added. It was fresh and tasty, and the salmon was very nicely cooked. It's been a while and neither of us remembers what The Hubs had, but he liked his lunch, as well (whatever it was). Our server was very friendly and kept our iced teas and waters topped up. The restaurant interior is nothing to write home about, but it was clean and having a table by the window was definitely a plus. I think eating on the patio would be nicer, weather permitting. If you're in Santa Fe checking out museums and go to Museum Hill, this cafe is a great place to stop and have lunch. They open at 11:00 and get busy quick. So reservations maybe needed. The menu is not filled with a lot of choices but, has a good variety. Description is a little off, so make sure and ask if not sure. I ordered the grilled eggplant, with roasted peppers and pesto, cheese with French bread. As I was expecting it to not be a sandwich, that's what it came as. It was delicious as it was put together. Came with a salad with just greens with dressing. As someone who likes to treat myself, this seem to be a little pricey for what I got. Now, it is in Santa Fe so I get the ritzy hype but come on, the ingredients and how it's prepared shouldn't gouge customers. I had a delightful lunch at the Museum Hill Cafe today. I came to see the museums but stopped in here for lunch and found the view, peaceful setting and food a welcome and unexpected treat. My waitress, Shayna, was warm and helpful steering me to the shrimp stuffed poblano. This dish was a healthier and flavorful version with a roasted not fried pepper that was sweet and soft filled with perfectly cooked shrimp, diced onions and tomatoes and a rich of melted cheese. This dish was satisfying and served with a bright mixed green salad and Spanish rice. I skipped the rice and this was a great keto meal for me. It felt indulgent but was guiltless. Chris and I chose to dine here today for lunch after walking and visiting the adjacent botanical gardens. We were hot, hungry and needed to cool off before visiting the museums on the hill. The cafe sits on a beautiful elevated terrace between two of the museums. The building and ambiance are beautiful and the dining area has covered areas plus tables shaded with umbrellas. The menu is well planned with food that is New Mexican plus more mainstream sandwiches. We ordered the house made mushroom taquitos with mild red chili sauce and a side of lettuce, sour cream and pico de gallo. We also ordered the sweet corn custard with poblano cream sauce. It was served with a side salad for an extra three dollars. The food was delicious!!! Our reason for the three stars is service. Today's Monday lunch service really seemed to be impacting the quality of service. The host was friendly and quickly seated us at a great table. Our server was indifferent and arrival of food for our table and the adjacent tables was quite slow. We never received our drink refills. When ordering our food we had inquired if desserts were available since none were listed on the menu. The server responded "yes" and as we were still speaking to him to ask for details on the desserts he turned and walked away while we were mid- sentence speaking to him. We never saw him again until we started looking for an employee to bring our check so we could pay. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. Parking is free and easy in the lot directly in front of the restaurant. Additional staffing and some smiles from servers would go a long way towards improving the overall experience. I would dine here again because of the convenience however if I had ample time I would probably dine elsewhere in Santa Fe for a better meal and service at the same price point. read more

One of the worse meals I have encountered in Santa Fe. Would not recommend anyone go there. Overly salty ingredients (hiding inferior product?), mediocre service, way too tightly packed a dinning room, and - honestly - way overpriced for what it was. When will restaurants learn - do not charge "going rate" when you are slopping stuff out of a microwave onto a plate. Museum Hill is fortunate to have such a wonderful restaurant in the midst of the four museums and botanical gardens on the Hill. This cozy restaurant offers both comfortable indoor and patio seating. The cafe offers a very nice mix of entrees, beverages and desserts. I especially enjoy their hearty burrito (Laura's Delicious Burrito) and the patty melt. The diverse menu offers everything from bison burgers to crab cakes and beautifully prepared salads. Considering the quality of the food and ingredients, the prices here are extremely reasonable. Took a visiting friend to the Museum Hill Cafe this afternoon for her first meal in Santa Fe. We sat outdoors and the ambiance was nice with piano in the background. We ordered very tasty main dishes and our usual ice teas with lemon. The drinks arrived without straws. When I asked for the straws, I was told, "we no longer provide straws." I asked why. The waitress replied curtly, "environment." When I expressed displeasure, she replied rudely that I "could bring my own straws the next time." I know policies change but this was ridiculous heading in the direction of insulting. When we finished our meal and paid the bill, I deducted $5 from my tip for each missing straw and made a note to choose from other restaurants for friends on their first visits to Santa Fe. read more

Our nonprofit board made a reservation for lunch at Museum Hill Cafe. We spoke 3 times with the receptionist and explained that we were holding our summer board meeting there. When we arrived, the parking lots were so full that you had to wait forever, just to park. How can anyone build a museum facility with numerous museums on site and NO SUFFICIENT PARKING? That's number one. Number two was how the older gentleman who was seating guests at Museum Hill Cafe treated us. He was so incredibly rude to us and our party that we had to leave and go elsewhere for lunch. Not only that, we specifically requested an outdoor table where we could hold our board meeting. And they placed our table facing a huge open plaza that had a hoop dancing competition with Native drumming that was amplified, such that you couldn't hold a conversation with anyone, not even the person sitting next to you. When we asked to be reseated at the back of the patio, they moved us indoors. COVID-19 is now peaking again in Santa Fe, so we were not willing to sit inside. But the NUMBER ONE issue was how rude this man was to us. Our rating is ZERO, not even 1/2 star. Whoever the person was who handled our reservation when we arrived should be fired and never allowed to work in public service again. We're never going back there or recommending Museum Hill Cafe to anyone. read more

We waited 30 minutes before we got a waiter after being seated. At one point I flagged down the host and asked for menus and water. The host's response was "One thing at a time"! We didn't get water for the first 30 minutes because you have to request it. How can you request it without a waiter? 30 minutes in our waiter took our order and we waited another 30 minutes for the food to come. The food wasn't terrible but calling average size shrimp JUMBO is disappointing, the salmon wasn't fresh and the strawberry sangria tasted like red water. The Waiter was short and snippy as well. What a wonderful lunch! I had never gone to the cafe before but after a long time in the Folk Art Museum we decided to give the cafe a try and boy were we pleasantly surprised. We went on a Sunday and tit was filled with people and lovely live music by a bass player and piano playing jazz. The view from the restaurant is the best in Santa Fe if you can snag a table by the floor to ceiling windows. We shared the mushroom taquitos and a vegetarian quesadilla. Both were excellent. The mushrooms were deep fried, but not at all oily; they came with a traditional red chile, sour cream, and pico de gallo. The quesadillas came with the same plus guacamole and a small salad. Our neighbors had a corn pudding that they said was wonderful, and a Ruben sandwich that they claim is as good as Dr. Field Good's. I find that hard to believe, but it did look good! We waited 15 minutes to be seated even though there were tables open. There were plenty of staff but they did not appear to be very organized or efficient. Once seated, we ordered quickly but it took almost 30 minutes to get our food. The chicken and vegetable soup with poblano creme on top was delicious!!! Light spiciness and tender chicken. A little pricey at $7.95 a cup, but oh so tasty. We shared the special, a grilled salmon filet with Spanish rice and asparagus. It was wonderful!!! The filet was cooked perfectly! Good portion size, moist and seasoned just right. The asparagus and rice were also very good. It was the bargain at $15!
