They can make it as mild and "spiceless" (I think I made this word up) as you'd like or as spicy as you'd like. I was not that impressed with the hamburger cheese katsu roll, but it was okay to try since it's one of their popular dishes. The kimchi katsu wasn't great either, the kimchi (which I usually love) overpowered the rest of the dish. But neither dish was bad, and I think some people may like them depending on their tastes. Woohoo my new guilty pleasure! When my favorite modern Korean spot Joah closed down last year I was so sad but thankfully Yuppduk can take its place now. I came here with 3 others on a weekend night and it wasn't too packed. The restaurant has a very homey and casual vibe with kpop mvs playing in the background. We did go all out and ordered a lot of stuff. The Mansour Plate reminds me of that in Joah with small portions of tokbokki, tonkatsu, kimchi fried rice, mashed potato and cabbage salad. It's always a good choice to get this if you have 3+ people. The star of the show is the Cheese Pork Ribs - served in an iron cast skillet with tangy gochujang sauce. The ribs were braised to tender and paired great with cheese. They do have nylon gloves so you don't need to hesitate eating the ribs with your bare fingers. We couldn't settle on which soup to order so we ended up getting Budae Jigae and Odeng Tang. Both were delicious and of smaller portions. The price is very reasonable to the amount of food you get. Heard about Yupdduk from a few of my friends and decided to give it a try. My boyfriend and I came her on Tuesday night and it wasn't busy at all which was nice. We ordered the Assorted Topokki, Kimchi Fried Rice with cheese, and the hamburger cheese katsu. I was quite disappointed with the aorrted topokki because I felt it was pretty plain. There wasn't much cheese on it to begin with and we asked for medium. Which was WAY too spicy. We did still enjoy it but when we asked for medium we did not think it was that unbearable. We were unable to finish the dish because our mouths were burning. We later realized they were known for their spicy foods. Haha well good to know. I have been to this place few times before COVID. When I ordered it today, i realized that they raised the price by $2. Raising the price was okay, but my experience with the waitress was so unpleasant and unwelcomed. Also they changed their togo container to a weird container(narrow and tall) that it was difficult to enjoy the ddukbokki. Ddukbokki tasted no way near my previous experience with yupdduk. I was craving rice cakes so I thought I would come to Yupdduk as they're known for it. I got a small order of dukkboki and it was a disappointment to say the least. I'd say there were 10 pieces of rice cakes total with a few shreds of cabbage and fish cake.. total came out to $13.05 and I didn't add cheese or anything. The topokki is what they're known for and is also what keeps me coming back. Not only do they cook the rice cakes until it's perfectly chewy but the sauce is what makes them stand out from other establishments. Their yupgi special spicy sauce has a great blend of flavors but be warned that it's very spicy so stick to mild. The kimchi bacon cheese fried rice is the one that comes in a cast iron skillet. Tasty but can be on the heavier side with all that cheese. I love a good cheese pull so this wasn't much of a problem for me. I have gotten the same two dishes every time I've dined here but they seem to skimp on some ingredients these days. We got the assorted topokki and it only had 2 small sausages and very little noodle. They also seem to top off the kimchi fried rice skillet with a lot less seaweed and kettle chips as you can see from pictures. Aside from that, the food is still good and came out almost immediately. After hearing so many friends rave about the food, I finally visited for lunch with a friend. We ordered off their combo menu with a serving of dukkboki and their pork donkatsu, both with cheese as a topping. Our orders came out relatively quickly and you could tell their katsu was freshly fried. Their dukkboki was well cooked with the perfect amount of chewiness (I like it soft and chewy) and wasn't extremely spicy. The portion was quite large but paired with cheese my friend and I couldn't stop eating even though we were stuffed. Their pork katsu was also amazing! Went in with friend, ordered food, split the bill. Then the waitress completely mixed up our cards and charged me for my friends items (she ordered extra food to take home). Btw, my card is blue and hers is green, waitress saw us put the card down in our respective bill, and we were the only people inside. Honestly the last time I came in was a dud so I didn't know why I came back. Also, they ask for the tip twice on the bill; as the total cost you pay included a tip added on, but they asked for another tip after paying for the food.
