My rankings: 1. Torched Salmon 2. Spicy Chicken 3. Salmon (w/ Spicy Mayo) 4. Beef Bulgogi The torched salmon yubu is the most popular and my favorite, the salmon is reasonably fresh, the sear is well executed, and the meat itself goes well with the rice and tofu skin. My least favorite was definitely the beef bulgogi; I'm a huge fan of beef bulgogi normally but I didn't really like it here. I think it lacked a bit of flavor with the marinade and I also don't think it complemented the yubu well. This restaurant is popular among local workers in the SoHo area, in large part due to how cheap it is (4 Yubu for $13) compared to other options around the area. I think 4 Yubu is enough for most people to be reasonably satisfied but I could've definitely went for 5 or 6. The inside is well lit and is nice as a casual lunch spot with friends and coworkers. My friend that I went with told me to try the bento box next time I go because he said the portions are quite big. 4.6/5

The tofu pockets have lots of variety, well seasoned and are deceptively filling. You can get away with eating around 6-8 and feeling stuffed. Ordered for takeaway and tried a whole bunch of flavors. My favorite had to be the salmon and torched salmon. If you're a fan of sashimi/sushi, it's a good pick! I would say the pork and beef were second best, especially if you like a slightly spicier and savory taste. The tuna was not raw tuna, but more of a tuna salad (which personally was not my favorite). The fish roe was not too bad either and was definitely spicy mayo forward. Not sure how the interior looks, but the delivery was quite fast and the food was packaged nicely.

This is my go to. This is my staple. This is my affordable. This is my here all the time. (And not for the free lolly.) This is my hit and never miss with friends! I've been here three times since this post. I love their drinks which are very refreshing, the food is good and affordable. They have different size options and the place itself has a calm ambiance with KPOP music.

The interior of the restaurant was clean and service was friendly. The main critique is that the rice for the Yu is way too mushy. Others have pointed this out before and I don't know why they continue to overcook the rice. I got three for $10 which is a decent deal, but you probably need six to feel full. They are smaller than they look in pictures.

BOX OF 3: Beef Bulgogi, Mushroom Bulgogi, and Salmon (Torched)

Cute little shop in soho area. Ordered a set of 3 yubu's to share. Great deal for $10. Good portion sizing too. I wanted to really like the spot, but it didn't really "wow" me. I did like that they give plenty of toppings for the yubu's. We got three flavors: - Beef bulgogi: Made with ground beef instead of sliced beef, had a hint of bulgogi and it wasn't too sweet. - mushroom bulgogi: I really liked the topping itself. It had a nice umami/garlic flavor but this piece was really watery? Or it had too much sauce? The sauce from the toppings soaked the rice and it didn't really mix well flavor wise. - torched salmon: Lightly torched, tasted like regular salmon All three flavors were just okay, the rice was what threw me off. Not sure if they were having an off day, the texture was mushy like they had put too much water. It was too soft for my preference. 2/3 pieces were drenched in sauce from the toppings and it felt like I was biting into mush? Would try again some other time to see if it's different.

Ambiance is pretty dead here which detracts from the experience but the food is really good. Lots of options and nothing you can really go wrong with here. Portions are small but well worth trying for their unique flavors. We always come here whenever in SoHo for a quick bite

Ordered takeout, 8pc for $25 on Postmates (I had a promo code so it was cheaper at checkout). It was packaged securely and nicely. Nothing spilled over. They gave me 2 lollipops and the quality of their chopsticks were nice. I've had this once before and I remember really liking it and I was craving it today so I decided to order delivery for lunch. Unfortunately, it did not hit the spot this time. The tofu skin on the outside was thin and sweet, but the rice on the inside was sticky and very dense. I got a good variety of toppings, I liked the salmon and bulgogi one. My least favorite were the tuna mayo and the avocado. The avocado had high rating on postmates, but it was just guac over rice.

Decently sized and priced for a box of 5. I tried all the vegan flavors and liked the spicy mushroom the best. That being said, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more vegan and vegetarian toppings in the future as the heap of mushrooms and avocado on each added a lot of moisture.

This place is so good that I visited here twice in one week! I was somehow craving some sushi and saw this place, which is basically Korean Yubu (or Japanese Inari or aka tofu skin) and have rice and fish/meat inside it. It's absolutely delicious and so flavorful! Growing up, I used to eat a lot of Yubu so this definitely gave that nostalgia in a way. The inside is pretty small but it hasn't been crowded as most people seem to take it as takeout. In case you don't want just Yubu, they do also have bento boxes and bibimbap along with coffee and tea. I did get their matcha latte and it was good too. If you're ever in SoHo and need a quick bite or some tasty food, definitely give this place a try!

This was a small and quaint restaurant that specializes in yubuchobap. If you don't know what yubuchobap is, it is seasoned rice stuffed into tofu skin, and then you can have various toppings to elevate the dish. The restaurant functions more like a snack-stop-and-go. This is the type of place you meet with your friends to yap or you stop by after a day of shopping in Soho. I already had an idea of what it would taste like, and honestly, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, especially the torched salmon. I got the spicy salmon and two of the spicy tunas, and it tasted pretty good, nothing crazy. But the torched salmon was the star of the show; it was so, so buttery and a tad bit smoky. It was really delicious. I ordered a blueberry matcha as well, and it was also pretty good! I wasn't expecting much from the drinks, so this genuinely surprised me. I highly recommend it!

We stopped over when we weren't quite hungry for a meal but wanted something to eat. These tofu pockets hit the spot! We got 5 different toppings: Spicy chicken, spicy salmon, torched salmon, spicy tuna, and beef bulgogi. Our favorite by far was the torched salmon. Torched salmon/salmon flambé/seared salmon has always been my favorite sushi but not many places serve it. So I was so happy to see it here and it did not disappoint. The beef bulgogi and spicy salmon were pretty standard. It tasted how you expected but nothing special. The spicy chicken was ok. I forgot that it was chicken after I ate it but also the spicy sauce taste a little fake. The spicy tuna was also decent but I just wish it was raw tuna, not cooked canned tuna. Overall, the place was very clean and plenty of seating. The food was also prepared pretty quickly and it's nice they gave out free lollipops. I'd definitely return for the torched salmon and will mix in other choices as well to find my perfect combo.

This casual Korean restaurant in the SoHo area of NYC offers Yoni with a variety of toppings including bulgogi, spicy tuna and salmon. We ordered at the counter. We had a variety plus a mango drink. Everything was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient.

Yubu! They have an East Village location and a SoHo location, but I always go to the SoHo location because it's near work (easy lunch) and not a far walk from the Hudson River (great picnic food option). Such a solid spot for takeout out and/or if you need something quick but still really satisfying. Interior is simple, clean, warm light, light wood aesthetic; and good amount of seats (never seen it get too busy). I feel like you can never go wrong with the yubu (my favorites are the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, bulgogi, and crabmeat) so I haven't tried anything else, but they do have bibimbap bowls, lunch sets (bento box vibes), and drinks (matcha, coffee, fruit drinks, etc.).

Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. With its casual bougie aesthetics, this spot has quickly become one of my favorite eateries in Fort Lee-lee, It beautifully blends Korean, Japanese, and American flavors in a way that feels both comforting and elevated. Needless to say, we will be back!

We got the large beef combination platter which comes with ribeye, thin skirt, brisket, marinated kalbi, and marinated chuck flap. Most people stuck with water, while a couple got ginger ale. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

But there's no denying that BCD has upped their soondubu game considerably in the last decade+ with a thicker, more deeply flavored broth, and now easily rivals my longtime favorite and gold standard, the OG So Kong Dong in Fort Lee. Then I stumbled into a hack that changed my view: lunch! I ducked in for a late lunch on a whim while walking by one day, and this turned out to be a much chiller hour, unhurried and no reservation needed. I was promptly seated, my order taken, and the banchan swiftly laid out. The banchan spread is solid across the board (the little fried fish does nothing for me, but seems to be a highlight for everyone else). I especially love the kimchi, near-perfect IMO, and the pickled cucumber. There's a modest lunch discount, which is a nice bonus for someone who likes to order aggressively. I usually get an oyster, seafood, or assorted soondubu (with a raw egg cracked in), danger spicy of course! Or go the C1 combo route with a galbi (marinated bbq beef short ribs) + smaller soondubu. It's an enormous amount of food, so I take most of the galbi home and feel no shame about it. The galbi, by the way, has also gotten noticeably better over the years - meatier, tender, and the flavor is on point. I've also enjoyed their bibimbap, bulgogi, jap chae, and seafood pancake. Finally, let's talk heat - this chili-head loooves fire! And BCD's danger level is one of the rare instances where the spice level actually meets my punishing tolerance for heat, not some pretense at "American spicy.," despite this being a chain. Their danger level actually means business and brings tears to my eyes, literally. It's still not my favorite place ambience wise, and dinner remains a contact sport I've mostly opted out of, as gone are the days that I can tolerate a culinary mosh pit, and any wait longer than 10 minutes (and only for a superlative place) will trigger an automatic ejection of my presence. But for lunch? Unexpectedly great. 4 stars for dinner, 5 for lunch.
