Food is good, but they don't have paper menus. You must use your phone and an app/website to order your food. That app adds a fee, just like a delivery service. What? If you don't have a cell phone, you can't order food. You also need to pay when you order, just like a ToGo order. I have a phone, but the cell service in the restaurant was very poor. I asked if they had WiFi and they didn't. So how were we supposed to order food? This whole thing makes no sense and they evidently don't want older, less tech savvy customers. read more

Milpitas used to be my stomping grounds, but I stopped frequenting the area when I stopped working there and a nicer Safeway opened near me. But when I saw Yoshi's I knew I'd eventually have to make my way there. The place is really clean and doesn't seem to get overly busy, and the seating is pretty cool. It's square shaped with the bar in the middle and a bunch of high booths. The menu is pretty expensive. From your standard rolls, to specialty rolls, cooked rolls, and sashimi--you'll get your sushi fix here at a decent price. The appetizer list is also large. I ordered the BBQ beef skewers which unfortunately were nothing special. What brings the rating down a bit was the fact that the service left much to be desired. It's not that they were bad, but they could've been more attentive as far as keeping our eating area clear. The recommendations I asked for were also lacking as the person serving us was probably new. Also disappointing was this sake I wanted hasn't been in stock for months ... okay so why is on the menu? I was quickly seated by the waitress and was already looking at the menu online before I know it. One of my pet peeves is how disproportionately thick the ends of sushi rolls tend to be, especially when the rolls consists of shrimp tempura. New sushi spot that's open late in the Milpitas neighborhood. Yoshi Sushi is located in the Safeway Plaza. The interior looks clean and you can watch the sushi chefs prepare and create. We decided to order an assortment of things. We started off with the baked mussels and vegetable tempura as an appetizer. The baked mussels weren't much of an appetizer given that we were told it would take about 20 minutes for it to finish cooking. The vegetable tempura could have been better. You could see all the oil and the batter was very light and almost nonexistent on some of the vegetable pieces. The mussel portion of the baked mussels were good but the amount of crab that is stacked on top is a bit much. It felt like a crab mountain with a mussel underneath it all. The two rolls we ordered were the Naked Fish and the Dinosaur Roll. Of the two, we liked the Dinosaur Roll more. It tastes similar to a Dragon Roll but with soft shell crab inside. The Naked Fish has deep fried fish inside which is something we haven't seen before. It was good and there was a spicy tuna like topping which was also decent. A lot of their rolls have the same sauce combo: unagi or spicy mayo or both. I did appreciate that they don't skimp on filling and the fish to rice ratio is pretty good. Ordered the pork belly skewers and the yellowtail handroll. Pork belly skewers were on the salty side and the yellowtail handroll came with two thick pieces of yellowtail which I did appreciate. This certainly felt worth the cost but I didn't like that when you got about 2/3 down the handroll, there was no yellowtail left as the pieces were huge and not made to size with the handroll. Service is attentive and they are very friendly here. Price wise seems pretty average and most of the rolls float around the $15 range. Overall, it was okay. I wasn't blown away and it did satisfy my sushi craving at the end. read more

This is a pretty solid sushi place. While we were waiting for a table on a busy Friday night, we were thinking back about the old sushi place which sadly closed since the owner passed. We immediately noticed that most of their tables unfortunately only accommodate parties of 2 as they removed the booths against the wall and replaced them with 2-seater high top tables. This place is small already, so I wouldn't recommend coming here with large parties on a busy day since our party of 3 had to wait. Once seated, service was fast with giving us menus, waters, and food. We ended up ordering: - tempura appetizer - gyoza - tonkatsu ramen - scorpion roll - chicken curry plate The scorpion roll was $25.99, but that's because it comes with two rolls. The gentleman taking our order was nice enough to let us know (it also states that on the menu). The presentation for the roll was cute since they made it look like a scorpion. As for the taste, I really enjoyed it. It was light and refreshing with the cucumbers and they didn't drench it with sauce. The tonkatsu ramen was also not bad. It had a smokey/grilled taste to it which made it really enjoyable. The noodles were great quality and the portion size was also huge. Surprisingly though, the curry chicken plate takes the cake with portion sizes. That plate was HUGE! You get a large amount of salad, which I personally love, and it's not drenched in dressing (huge plus). You also get chicken katsu, a bowl of rice, and two orange slices. The curry was delicious for Japanese curry fans like myself. The gyoza was tasty especially when it came out piping hot. The filling was pretty flavorful. The tempura appetizer wasn't bad either. Stopped by Yoshi Sushi for a quick bite. We ordered two rolls - Giants Roll ($15.50): YUM! Of the two rolls, this was my favorite. With scallops in the middle topped with salmon with unagi sauce and spicy mayo, the roll was refreshing and tasty. Red Heart Roll ($15.50): OK. The roll was OK, but the Giants Roll is way more worth it. This one doesn't come with any sauces and I think that's the missing ingredient for this roll. The fish quality is OK - not the highest quality. The avocado was starting to brown in the Red Heart Roll. Service is pretty quick and nice. Parking is a free shared lot. The lighting is pretty bright in there which kills any ambiance. Overall, Yoshi Sushi has decent priced sushi that won't break the bank. We were a bit nervous reading reviews saying the sushi was good but might give a stomachache but....we took the chance anyways All the rolls were pretty good and had enough flavor that we didn't need any soy sauce. They gave generous amounts of wasabi and ginger which were all we needed. Lion King Roll ($15.99): The roll itself is a good size with lots of salmon. I like how the salmon isn't fishy and there isn't an obnoxious amount of sauce. Pirate Roll ($15.99): This was my lease favorite roll but it wasn't bad. I saw that they had recently opened and taken over the old Sushi Maru spot. Actually this location is super nostalgic to me because I still remember even prior to that when the sushi joint in this plaza was Sushi Lovers. My friend had gotten takeout last Friday and I had ordered the Dinosaur roll which was pretty yummy. Post badminton playing today we decided to come here for a late lunch/early dinner since they were the only sushi place open between 2-4. We arrived to find a relatively busy restaurant but were seated pretty quickly. The booths felt a tad small and it was indeed a tight fit for all our food. Our server was super friendly and made chit chat with us throughout the afternoon. I opted for the sushi lunch roll special which is an amazing deal at $13.99 for 3 rolls of pretty good size. I got the spicy scallop, salmon avocado, and unagi avocado. All were pretty good. We also got a few other rolls to share amongst us and nothing disappointed. We did have to ask for wasabi multiple times as none came on the sushi orders so that was a bit bothersome. They're running a 20% off promo for their soft opening now. I was pleasantly surprised to see that apply to the Sapporo we got too. I foresee myself making another trip soon to take advantage of the special. The service throughout our dinner was great. The waiter offered suggestions and let us know about their daily happy hour from 9pm - 11pm. I would say the rice are minimal which I like. The rainbow roll was essentially same thing with some thin slices of raw fish. I guess when u are heavily discounting on price u cut a little thin to make up for it. I think I just should have order something else since I essentially just ate a bunch of California roll. I was in the mood for a quick sushi lunch and wanted to try a new place in the area. I remember seeing Yoshi Sushi and decided to place a to go order: I got the Hotel California Roll and the Dinosaur Roll (about $30 before tip). When I opened the bag, the sushi was packed neatly and the presentation was really nice. Portions were decent as well. I really enjoyed both rolls- the salmon and tuna sashimi tasted fresh and the little thin slice of lemon was a good, refreshing touch. Whatever sauce they use (eel sauce and spicy Mayo) complimented the sushi well and I liked that they added just enough but didn't drown the rolls with it.
