The wings are soooooo crispy and they look like they are on steroids. The sauces are very tasty and sticky so every wing is perfectly coated. I would show you the mandoo, but we ate them already and we haven't left the parking lot yet. read more

We love Korean food and have been to several in different states. This makes the top of the list for a "go-to" Korean restaurant. The beef bulgogi was delicious, and plentiful. Several places give you a huge pile of rice with a few tablespoons of meat. This place is the other way around. The kimchi was perfect. The restaurant is clean, do not let the exterior fool you. Also as a final and added touch, our waiter (who I suspect is the owner) was very friendly, accommodating and patient with our toddler who spilled a cup. I highly recommend Yewon and we will be back for sure. read more

This is one of my go to Korean restaurants in central Va. The food is delicious and I believe the one time I wasn't satisfied (Kim Chee jigae) was an anomaly rather than a norm. Hey sometimes you have a bad day. The yuki jang is still my favorite. The service is good as there is usually just one person but she is helpful and courteous. read more

This place is nothing short of remarkable. Please do not just look at the menu and say: "Oh, some items are priced high." Read this story FIRST: (Google Yewon Richmond Magazine story). There is a TON of preparation and sweat and hard work that goes into keeping any genre of cuisine authentic, and respecting the folks in the past that handed down the knowledge. This place is VERY reasonably priced for the quality, deliciousness, and especially portions you get. I got 2 meals out of my order. In my experience eating Korean in Korea, (albeit 32 years ago), and in 2 coasts, this is the best and most authentic that can be had in the RVA area. I loved that one of the owners, who serves as GM, server, hostess, simultaneously, while her husband churns out the extraordinary food, HAPPILY accommodated my Vegan daughter, whom I was having a lunch date with, on a rare occasion that we were both off last Wednesday. I feel this is a sign that everything here is freshly prepared. She opted for the bulgogi with tofu, minus the beef and egg. What she got was a broad array of pickled and fresh vegetables, along with the ABSOLUTE best kimchi we've ever eaten. (Something can be said for embracing the arduous task of making it in house versus from a jar). Her meal came in a very large, hot bowl of awesomeness. She also got 2 & 1/2 meals out of it. I went in on their seafood pancake, a favorite of mine. Amazingly executed, huge, and delicious. I was hungry, and can eat, but only made it 1/2 way through. Someone mentioned that they don't sell craft beers. I am a craft beer lover, but in this case I agree they should not. Why? That would involve much more work and schlepping than a 2-person run awesome restaurant should have to endure. And would that be authentic? Just wash your meal down with a choice of several Asian beers they offer, and you will survive. You can go to Scott's Addition in RVA and hipster-away afterwards, with a full belly, and a contented soul. Ok, so please don't think I'm one of those that doesn't know about Korean food. I lived in Japan and have stayed in Korea for 6 weeks during that time. Went here for maybe the 5th time today. Bought lunch for my best friend who is pregnant with twins. She got bulgogi bibimbop. There were 2 very small, sad pieces of bulgogi...so she was like let's see if we can order another lunch sized portion and then put it on the bibimbop. When I went to get it, they were like that will be $22....I'm sorry, for a lunch sized portion of bibimbop???? Then she said, we had to raise our price due to market increase. I explained that our dush didn't have very much bulgogi and she was like let me go ask if we can make her a side. She was gone for about 3 min, came back and was like sorry no. Also, oddly...the rice was separate on the bibimbop. Never seen it that way before. Anyway, the whole situation was unpleasant and gave me an unwelcome vibe. read more

The staff are sweet here and not rude at all which can be an issue at Korean restaurants. Speed of service here can be a bit hit or miss here though. Sometimes, they're pretty attentive while other times they just seem to disappear into the back for a while. It is a family owned business and they do not seem to have a designated wait staff so I'm sure they just get overwhelmed sometimes. My Korean friends say that this is probably the best that Richmond has to offer. Even though it may be out of the way, it's so much better in terms of quality and value than what is available in the city! read more

Food is amazing. Had the seafood pancake and the soy garlic fried chicken which is the best Korean chicken I've had, even when comparing to CM chicken or Bonchon. The chicken has an amazing crunchy layer on the outside with hot, juicy meat on the inside. Definitely recommend and a great place to dine with friends and family! If I could I would give this 3.5 stars but rounding up for good food. Overall the food here is delicious. We ordered 4 dishes and an appetizer and it was enough to feed 5 adults. Do not come here expecting good service! You will have to flag the waitress down and ask for what you want. She seems to be the only one working so it's understandable but it's still a pain, especially because she seems to hide in the back. She's not rude and is very friendly, just isn't proactive in serving the customers. It's still good food though so if you don't mind the service and want some good Korean food, definitely give this place a try! read more

I accidentally called this restaurant instead of the one I meant to and ordered some items that weren't on their menu by accident. Upon realizing this, I was a little nervous what the food would turn out like, but I was wrong to be worried. As a Korean person in Richmond, I've been missing good Korean food, and this place delivers. It's extremely authentic, delicious and fresh. As I mentioned before, we ordered some things that weren't on the menu by mistake, and they still made them for us, no questions asked. It was extremely kind, and if I could give a restaurant six stars on Yelp, I would. I could honestly cry. Their food reminded me of my childhood. This was my first authentic Korean meal so I have nothing to compare to but can confirm everything was delicious. Service was a little slow to start and there were a few tables that sat unbussed for about 20-30 minutes when we first were seated. With that being said, its a very small family run seeming business and once the meal arrived all doubts were alleviated. I ordered the Spicy Seafood Udon Noodle dish and was blown away by the presentation and serving size. It's served on a giant hot skillet plate. The seafood was delicious.. large mussels and a giant octopus on top. I mean giant, and fresh! My husband ordered the Spicy Pork Bulgobi. I wouldnt advise coming if you're short on time. Suuuper good food. Came in on a quiet Thursday as my first foray into Korean food. My sister is much more versed in Korean culture and speaks a little bit as well. Started off with Kim Bap which is like sushi with beef. Very good and fresh with the pickled veggies inside. For my entree, I got Beef Bulgogi which was tender, with just a hint and sweet and perfectly cooked scallions. My sister got JJambbong which was super good with shrimp, mussels, and baby octopus. She had plenty left over but I ate all of mine. Definitely a place to take a group and try lots of things! Will be back! read more

Coming from NOVA, the home of Korean food, I had lowered expectations of Richmond Korean food. However, this is the best Korean restaurant in Richmond, and by far exceeds my expectations. The service is a bit slow, as I think only the owner runs it, but she's so incredibly sweet. She helped someone in my party cook their octopus soup in a gas burner, and also provided us with complimentary mandoo and strawberry yogurt drinks! I would like if the soondobu had a more distinct flavoring, but I highly recommend the kimchi jjigae and the kimbap! I brought my daughter to Ye Won for lunch. She never had Korean food and wanted to try it. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were promptly seated. After about 30 minutes, I got up to go in search of someone to take our order. There was only one other table with six people eating. I waited at the cash register for about 3 minutes when a very nice lady appeared. I told her we were ready to order. She came to our table right away and took our order. we ordered dumplings, teriyaki chicken, and beef bulgogi. The side dishes were amazing. The food was really good! No complaints about the food. I am very picky when it comes to Korean food, and I was happy to see that there was a Korean restaurant in the area, right on one of the main veins out here in suburbia. This part of Hull Street is a little enclave of great international food gems, and Yewon really did please. I have made homemade Korean food and had it at friends' houses, and tried many restaurants in Northern VA. Many Korean restaurants, even in Northern VA, tend to be overpriced and greasy with small portions with just okay flavor. Yewon tasted like home. Maybe they changed cooks or ownership, I'm not sure, but service was wonderful and the food was very flavorful. I ordered the kimchi bokum bap (kimchi fried rice), and my fiance ordered the galbi (marinated LA short ribs). The kimchi was very flavorful, nice and spicy, and had lots of meat, not to mention that it was a good size portion too. My fiance had a mountain of galbi that was piping hot, cooked just right, with a bit of caramelization, and seasoned to perfection, mmmm mmm! Oh yeah, and the kimbap was very flavorful and was a good portion for 5 bucks too. The banchan was pretty good. The shredded pickled radish was addictively delish, and the bean sprout salad was good too. Unfortunately, theirs was not my favorite kimchi. I am pretty picky about that. With the flavor of the food and the service, it almost felt like having dinner at someone's house. The owner was very friendly, warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive. He noticed everything and addressed whatever we needed right away without being overbearing in the least bit. He was very personable, joked with us, and made us feel right at home. He was also very helpful when my fiance asked for a recommendation. I can't stand when people act like they don't know what they like best between one thing or another. I was very happy that I finally got around to trying Yewon. Delicious food, great service, and a good value for your money. That's a winning combination in my book. I would definitely recommend trying this place and, unlike most places, it's definitely worth the drive if you don't live nearby. I was recently introduced to Korean food and this restaurant was the place. Let me start out by saying, I don't know how I've missed this wonderful cuisine. This place continues to impress me with each meal I have there. Kimbop-Korean sushi is so good! I get the Kim chi jiggea (sp?) which is a delicious kim chi soup with pork and tofu. The broth is amazing in this soup, hitting all of your tastebuds. My favorite has got to be all the different sides you get with your meal. My hubby enjoyed it also, getting the grilled pork. The owner/waiter is very helpful and kind. The cook is his mother and she rocks her cuisine. The place is a little hard to find but when you do, it'll be stamped on your heart forever.
