I've been wanting to try them but interpreted their lack of cars out front as something weird. I was wrong. I went for lunch and glad I did. The south side Vietnamese choices have not been great historically. I have a feeling this place could change that. The parking lot is More ample than most places. I now see that as a great thing. Of course I ordered their fresh shrimp & pork spring rolls. They hit 2 indicators for me, outta the park. 1. The accompanying peanut sauce was actually peanut-y, not overly hoisin forward. Perfect. Thick to where it coats, but not so thick the delicate roll breaks, & not watered down. 2. The rolls tasted "rolled to order," with perfectly cooked shrimp & fresh noodles & vegetables. Not the made way ahead and sat in the fridge, sadness dispensed in other locations. I also had the cold cut banh mi and asked for xtra pate. The bread arrived warm as if made locally or re-livened to order. Nice touch. The vegetables all came separately so you can add your own quantities. (I added it all!) This place has been open for about a week from the time of this writing. I came here for my birthday party and was pleased with how clean and modern their interior design is. As a person who likes to eat pho and try out new pho restaurants, this place is worth checking out. It wasn't busy when I came. The service was quick and friendly. They even had some classy jazz music playing in the background (big fan of this). I got the egg roll, salted coffee, and Pho Dac Biet (house special pho). My husband got the Bun Bo Hue and the regular iced Vietnamese coffee. Both coffees were great, in fact, the best we've ever had in Richmond. The pho was good and they gave lots of meat. The Bun Bo Hue was good, but not 100% correct on flavor; a bit diluted tasting from what we expected. Still really good, just not an A+ rating. The egg rolls were good (hard to mess those up). Other friends and family who were here also enjoyed their dishes, which was a wide selection from the menu. Overall, this place is solid. Everything was at least good across the board. I just ordered Takeaway and it was ready upon arrival. Be careful using any of the apps listed to order the food because they will charge a lot more. If you're doing pick up then calling the restaurant directly we only tried two dishes, but they were good and good portion sizes on the pho. We wish there was more more herbs included in the Takeaway order, but we enjoyed the taste when you do take away. There's only one size choice on the soup. read more

Oh man, I was excited for a new Viet spot in Midlothian but this one was SO DISAPPOINTING. So many things went wrong during our visit. To start, it's super cute on the inside but that's about it. The staff seems really confused, unorganized and just over all, all over the place. They were always very polite though and that's why I remained patient. I order pho which has multiple different types of meat. When it came out, it only had one strange looking meat in it. Low quality meat. The broth was bland, and greasy. Just gross. Then the staff kept delivering food we never ordered. I returned my pho as it wasn't what I ordered. They took it back and charged it to my bill anyway.. My partner got the vermicelli and honestly, that was good. Vegetables were fresh. Meat had good flavor. It was good. We got the bahni as well, which was okay. We waited so long for my new order of pho to come out. Multiple people who came after us, got their food, ate and left. I still never got my pho. Still never got my bubble tea. We finally gave up and said we were going to leave. They brought our bill and they charged me twice for pho, bubble tea, banh mi and the vermicelli. Mind you, my partner was the only one that ordered and actually received his food. I never did. The vermicelli was the only thing we ate. My partner told them that I had returned the pho and never actually received the other. They stated that I can only get a 20% discount off the bill... They brought us a new bill and only $4 came off... mind you, I NEVER GOT THE PHO or the smoothie. I asked for an itemized bill after my partner paid cause the math didn't make sense. All of a sudden, our waiter disappears for another 25-30 minutes. We could see him purposely trying to avoid us. We finally got a "manager" explained the situation and he proceeded to tell us that he couldn't do a refund because the iPad doesn't allow refunds.... It was the most uncomfortable/ sketchy situation. Inappropriate behavior and sketchy business practices. My partner had to show him how to do a refund on the iPad. Mind you, my partner has never worked food service before. Never seen this iPad for payments before and it was an easy return. The "manager" pretended not to know how to do a simple refund... I don't want to feel scammed when looking for a peaceful dining experience. It was the most uncomfortable situation I have ever experienced. read more

Takeout was even top-notch quality, great portion sizes for the price. Broth is on par with one the best i've had in the RVA area. Very speedy service AND delivery if you so choose to go that route. I've been here two times. The atmosphere was good and I order my usual, keeping it simple which consisted of vermicelli noodle bowl and fresh roll. On my second visit, I ordered the same thing but I had a guest who ordered the same thing as I. It's now time to go and i paid, left a tip, and all is well. A few days later, I noticed on my bank statement "Viet Holic" charged much more than my bill, which included my tip. The transaction was pending, so I gave them the benefit of thinking, perhaps, the merchant will hold more than the actual charge and when the transaction post to my account, it will be for the actual amount that I paid. Well in the intrem, I took two more guest with me for lunch and decided to check my bank account to find that Viet Holic did what I hoped they did not do. They deliberately over charged me an additional $20. I ordered my usual vermicelli and fresh roll, ate and the bill came, same server, young man with glasses. The previous receipt says his name is "Bell" who remembered me from my previous visits, how do I know? We had a conversation and I tested him too see plus there had never been more than one other customer each time I've been there. Bell came to me with his handheld payment device and bill. I told him, I would not be leaving a tip this time because he helped himself to a bigger tip than the one I left. I told him, I did not want to discuss or go through finding transaction and disputing. Bell insisted. I provided my name, he was able to locate the transaction at his terminal at the register. I saw my name and all of a sudden Bell flips and says, " have a good day." I looked around confused as to why he said that because he insisted to pursue the discrepancy. I looked puzzled at my 3 guest who were standing behind me and noticed another customer standing next to my guest. Bell did not want to continue the conversation about him over charging me $20 in front of another customer, so he said once again but in a sharp, disrespectful tone, " have a good day." Bell, what you don't know is, I know the owner. Stealing and disrespect will never work in your favor. I chose to walk away. One thing for certain, i will NEVER come back. Rude, disrespectful and he steals from his customers. NGHIA V. (Business Manager) You responded to my Review and you're incorrect. My visit that I was over charged on was a party of two. I know how much 2 bowls of Vermicelli and 1 fried spring roll and 1 fresh spring roll cost. I deal in facts and black and white. Mixed feelings about this restaurant. I ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer and would not get it again because the shrimp was overcooked and there was not enough meat (pork) in the spring rolls. Another thing about their appetizer menu is that it has fries, calamari, and onion rings which is not typical of a Vietnamese restaurant so that threw me off a little bit. The entree was pretty good - I got the sizzling plate with baguette which was flavorful. The restaurant was well decorated but the service is beyond subpar since when we first walked in the waitress spilled the tray of water all over the table and other staff had to come and assist. Lastly, I would say that time in which food comes out is not great. It seems they do food by table and not based on whether you got an appetizer so one table next to me finished their meal when we got to our appetizer even though we were behind the table my a few minutes. I've tasted many of the Pho spots in the greater Richmond area and I'd list this place on my top 3 list. We've had 2 pho, number 17 and 18 (eye round steak brisket and eye round steak) I'd recommend this spot. Staff were friendly, smiling and fast. We tried this place twice, the first time we ended up leaving because our order was lost and it had been over an hour wait and at that point wasn't willing to wait for them to re-place the order. So we tried again at a later date. The second time, we did get food. The Bun Bo Hue was really a let down, flavor was really bland. The Bahn Mi was also very light on meat, and my son said it was the worst one he's had at all the places he has had them in Richmond. I don't think we will go back, I'd rather drive farther to another Vietnamese Restaurant with better quality food and service. read more

We visited VietHolic for an early lunch today for the first time. We usually go to Pho Que Huong for pork chops and Tay Do for pho in the West End, but decided to drive out to Midlothian to give VietHolic a try. Pros: The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a welcoming atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive. The cơm sườn (pork chop) was tender, flavorful, and not dry or chewy at all -- I really enjoyed it. The chicken wings were also very tasty. The bathroom was clean, and I appreciated that they provide paper towels. Cons: The main issue for us was the sweetness level. The fish sauce was extremely sweet -- more like sugar water. The cast-iron sizzling bánh mì was also too sweet for our taste. My wife loved the wings even though they were slightly on the sweet side, but her sizzling bánh mì was overly sweet as well. Growing up in a Vietnamese household, I'm used to a more balanced, traditional fish sauce -- like the kind my dad used to make (and now my wife makes at home). It felt like the sweetness might be adjusted to cater more to American tastes. That said, I really appreciated that our server asked how the food was and took my feedback about the fish sauce professionally. He said he would pass the comment along to management, which I respect. One small note: the soap dispenser in the bathroom was empty, but I found a refill bottle under the sink and filled it myself. Overall, it was a good first experience. We're willing to come back and give it another try, and hopefully some of the sweetness levels will be adjusted. read more

Very disappointing experience from customer service stand point. Taste of the food that actually made it to the table wasnt bad but also nothing came out correct. I ordered the #3 grilled pork spring roll, #13 house special pho, #46 grilled pork banh mi, and a vietnamese iced coffee. After ordering and waiting a half hour, the waiter came to say they had messed up my food and they apologized but it would be a longer wait. 10 mins later the #3 came out. The grilled pork was flavorful but the overall filling was light and it was served with served with peanut sauce instead of Nước chấm. I asked the waiter about this and he said they usually ask the customer for their preference and apologized for not doing so. After another 10mins the banh mi arrived. It had plenty of the flavorful pork filling on the sandwhich but it did not have any pate or mayo in it. When I asked the waiter if it was supposed to be on the sandwich he stated yes the pate is but I probably just didn't see it. I had to move all the contents of the sandwhich to show him for him to believe me. He just stated that they did originally mess up the order so they probably just forgot. By this time it had been about an hour and I had not received my pho so I decided to cut my losses and get my check and leave. I did receive the iced coffee but it was to overly sweet for my taste. Maybe this location will improve with time but for now I'd recommend going to one of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area instead. read more
