It's been a very long time since I've actually had decent Vietnamese food on the east coast. I love to explore new places since I've moved to Virginia and was about to try Pho 60 cafe for lunch. The guy that sat me down did not have exciting energy. BUT my server called me 'boss' so that was an instant 5 star right there. I order a pho dac biet and it was beyond my expectations. All the meat was extremely tender and the fatty brisket definitely was fatty. The tendon melts in your mouth instantly. Great broth and perfect amount of noodles. The more I think about it, I'd have to say this was the best pho dac biet I've ever had. Nothing was chewy at all. The restaurant has a very organized feel and cleanliness. I'm impressed that everyone wears the same tshirt/uniform. The menu is also very well designed and easy to understand both viet and English. Great online website as well. I came here for lunch on a Friday and got the pho dac biet large ($16) and it came out super fast, about 5 minutes. The pho broth was absolutely delicious! It was super savory and had a really good beefy and saltiness to it! Definitely now in my top 3 in pho broth in Richmond! They also gave a respectful amount of meat in the large! Atmosphere was chill , service was really quick and staff were very normal for a Vietnamese restaurant. Overall a fantastic place for pho for a fair price! Walked in on a Saturday evening. Holiday spirit was in the air. A tall Christmas tree was up and decors were all over. It was nice. Shrimp and pork spring rolls were fine. The picture in the menu shows 8 pieces but one order is just 2 pieces. Combination noodle soup had flank, fat brisket, tendon, tripe, and well done brisket. House special crab meat vermicelli tomato soup used imitation crab. Food was okay overall but not excellent. Service was so so. You get your own plastic/boxes for your left overs that you want to bring home. If you'll wait for the staff to hand you your check, this would not happen since payment is done at the counter. I had their large Combination Noodle Soup. It was excellent and delicious. Tons of flavors and lots of ingredients. But some stuffs in it might not appeal to everyone like pork stomach and slices of fat. I also had the spring rolls with shrimp & pork. They were just okay, pork was a little dry and the sauce was runny. The service was good and server came over almost right away when I sat down. They recognize me now and greet me. The food is brought out very quickly. The wanton are fried to perfection & seasoned very tasty. The house fried rice is a generous portion with lots of additions. Plenty of seasonings at the table. Tables & booths are spread out giving some privacy. Responsive staff. But I'm here most of all for their coffee & the bread I dip in the coffee! Nice clean restaurant, the aroma of the deliciousness just permeates the whole dining room. Also good sign to see a lot of south East Asians dining here. I ordered the large combination beef pho and it came out in less than 5 mins. Waiter said because they were not busy. The pho both was excellent and the whole pho was really good. I attempted the bbq beef banh mi sandwich as well. It was a 12" sandwich with plenty of bbq beef toasted warm but it was not quite the crusty French roll as I would have preferred. The service was fast and efficient. We ordered Bun Bo Hue, Pho, Bahn Mi, iced coffee with condensed milk, and shrimp and pork spring rolls. Everything came out incredibly quickly and tasted amazing. Bun Bo Hue wasn't incredibly spicy but very flavorful. The meat in the bahn mi was very flavorful. The spring rolls came out as soon as we ordered it and the peanut sauce was very delicious. The food is so flavorful and the portions are great. We ordered the spare ribs which were sooo good. The brisket and steak pho had some of the best broth I've tasted in Richmond since moving here. God bless Phở 60 for gracing us with their presence south of the river. I no longer have to make the journey to i64 and West Broad. What is this area even called? It's some sort of weird Bermuda triangle of Tuckahoe - Willow Lawn - and Dumbarton. Whatever you call it, I call it too far out of the way. Now that Phở 60 is on, you guessed it, route 60 it's an easy 4-mile zip down the pike to noodle heaven. It's all about the broth! Nobody gets it right the way the people who own Phở So 1 get it. I've been told this is the same family running the show. They take their time and make it right. Good pho and bad pho are separated by the quality of the broth. Run don't walk to this location for the BEST pho this side of the river. My only warning is the culture and how it relates to service. You might be waiting 5 hours for waters. You might have your order taken in less than 5 minutes. You might just stand there looking stupid in the doorway. You might get seated right away. The possibilities are endless! YOUR personal experience will vary. Done with your meal and expecting a bill? Nope. Just walk your happy ass to the registers and explain what you ordered. I'll say the spring rolls were 10/10 best I've had in Richmond! The beef phô has great depth of flavor, and the brisket is perfectly sliced. I added broccoli to mine and staff was very accommodating and the broccoli was actually perfectly cooked and flavorful! The veggie pho has great balance, chef did not skimp on ingredients, and the tofu was perfectly sliced and matched the consistency of the other vegetables.
