I spent a lot of time in Vietnam and I ate a lot of pho! The prices are so fair. The broth both the chicken and the beef are very flavorful and they have several different sizes. You can choose from. Also, if you're doing Takeaway, they do let you choose sizes where a lot of places do not let you choose the size the place is a little hidden it's behind full kee in a little house there is street parking because a lot is very small when I left on a Saturday at noon when a blizzard was coming in it was very crowded and people were waiting for tables. They only take cash. The one bad thing I will say is I found the egg roll a little greasy.

I've been wanting to visit this pho place forever. I've seen it claimed as the top place for pho in RVA, I was thrilled when I finally got the chance to try it with some friends this past weekend. We arrived on a Sunday around noon. While there were some people waiting outside, we waited about 15 minutes to get seated. There were a bunch of cute stray cats outside that we admired while we waited. Do know that service is extremely slow here. It seems like only two people running front of house. It's an extremely charming restaurant because it's in an actual home filled with painted cut outs that has a diner vibe. The food here is extremely affordable. We were a group of four. Two of my friends got spring rolls and loved them. We got a pot of jasmine tea to share which was really nice on a cold day. It's a pretty intimate spot. There is a single men's and single women's bathroom. And when you're done with your meal, you pay up front. I ordered a medium #12 with extra noodles. I was surprised to find my noodles chopped up into small pieces. I think next time I wouldn't order extra noodles because my friend who got a chicken pho had hers long and intact. I enjoyed my beef pho so much. My friends also enjoyed theirs as well. We all left very full and very happy. It's a cash only spot. Thankfully I always have cash on me and everything was a great price. For four phos, two spring rolls, and jasmine tea, we spent $70 total (this is with tip). It's a great affordable spot. I'd recommend coming earlier than you think so you get your food when you start getting hungry.

Cash only!!! Converted house into this 2025 award winning Pho restaurant. I got the Shrimp Pho while hubby got brisket and round Pho. We received our Pho meals fast accompanied by such fresh basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, juicy limes that made me so happy. A small teapot of Jasmine helped to warm me up. Our server had so much energy and he did tell his chef to ensure that we were served long not chopped up noodles, though he said the Yelper who received the chopped noodles likely got the bottom of the bag. Makes sense. The area we sat in was the front room but there was room behind the front door and yet another room around the corner. Well kept though dated decor. One stall women's restroom. Very limited parking in front of this restaurant, but there's street parking in this area. As we were leaving we noticed the restaurant got filled with customers who wanted our table. Cold, chilly snow to greet us. We will return!

Interior is smaller and older, but clean and well kept.

As I was perusing some of my original reviews from when I moved here a decade or so ago, I realized what I can only now attribute as a grave mistake. Originally I gave Tay Do a 4 star, but giving it anything less than a 5 is just wrong. -- Food: You can choose between all sorts of pho dishes from beef to chicken, vermicelli, rice dishes, and more. You can also ask for a spicy broth (it's a lemongrass beef base, probably the Bo Bun Hue base?) with any bowl. My personal favorite is the Spicy Chicken pho, and it's no exaggeration to say that I look forward to it every Sunday for brunch. They have a lot of gluten free options for those where this is important. I have celiac and haven't once gotten sick from eating beef and have had lots of beef and chicken bowls. I guess if there's one thing I want to comment on the actual broth is that the non spicy one is a tiny bit less savory than some of the other pho places in Richmond, but the rest of it is so good it's a moot point honestly. The spicy broth does *not* have this problem and is the best. (It is pretty spicy!) -- Service: Denzel, the owner, is great. He's such a chill guy and his customer interactions are genuine and true. If there's anything wrong with anything he'll fix it. He's honestly the best. He knows my partner and I's order as soon as we come in, including all the different variations we sometimes get. -- Atmosphere: I don't know how to describe it other than to picture a small house that's been made mostly open floor plan, added tables, and decorated with art and wood standups of various Vietnamese locations and people. It's unique but it works and gives it charm. -- Cost: It's about $15 per person and absolutely worth. CASH ONLY, by the way. They don't have an ATM on premise but it's a short way down to some convenience stores. -- Overall: I love Tay Do. The spicy chicken pho is one of my favorite things in Richmond to eat, and Denzel makes the experience great every time. If you like pho and haven't been, absolutely check it out.

very local place actually inside a house with limited parking spot out front. the interior is cute with Vietnamese paintings all over the wall. and simple table and chair makes you feel like you are in SE Asia local restaurant. Service is quick and staffs are very friendly There's big menu of Vietnamese food from different regions of Vietnam. the pho i had is very different, the broth has a bit sour taste to it, with beef shank, pork trotter and other meat in it . the portion is big and price is very reasonable.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and got the #3 Large and it came with steak, brisket, and tripe($10) and Vietnamese iced coffee ($4). Service was quick and good. Food came out in about 10 minutes once ordered. The pho broth was definitely one of the best if not the best broth in Richmond. My only slight criticism is that they don't load the bowl with meat, but it was still a fair amount. This establishment is CASH only. Staff was friendly and service was good. Overall a phenomenal Vietnamese restaurant with amazing food and fantastic price! Food(50%): 8.8 Staff/service(25%): 8.0 Value(25%): 9.0 Overall: 8.7/10

A coworker recommended this restaurant and I'm glad she did. it's hidden but well worth the find. it's cash only so be prepared. the food was delicious and you can drink the broth. it's small so first come first serve it's a local favorite i can see why. loved it and the host was kind

Cozy and tucked away, this little Vietnamese restaurant is a gem! The waiter/owner was wonderful and made my dining experience amazing. Even though I don't live in Richmond I am willing to drive back an hour and 1/2 just so my husband can experience this amazing food. Cash only

Chicken pho

Chicken pho: super flavorful even for a non red meat pho. the noodles had a great texture and very silky Vietnamese iced coffee: always good but had a great balance between sweet and bitter They are located in a cute blue house and are the definition of a family owned establishment. Cash only!!

The vietnamese coffee is a must get. Never had it freshly brewed before. The pho was so flavorful and rich. The papaya salad was also very fresh.

It was love at first pho and I've been hooked ever since. This modest and charming house serves up some of the best Vietnamese food. It's small, so I'd suggest getting there early because it's a hot location, but don't let the size fool you. Their menu is plentiful and packed with options made with fresh ingredients. *Cash only

Rainy evening, perfect for pho. Recommended to Pho Tay Do by a friend, we knew we'd be showing up to what looked like a little house, and im glad for the warning otherwise I may have been confused when looking for the business on a rainy dark evening. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. We forgot to grab cash on our way over so we ordered and then I popped around the corner to the atm at 7-11, easy. I ordered the number 10 pho, large. Beautiful, delicious, big portion. Warmed and filled my belly. The broth was so flavorful, truly enjoyed every moment. Our young sons shared a fried rice plate, perfect. Husband also happy with his pho. We'll be back! Yum!

Ask the Community - Pho Tay Do

Are the pho bowls gluten free? (Including the rice noodles being cooked in a separate pot as the vermicelli noodles)

Majority of Vietnamese food is gluten free. Pho noodles & vermicelli noodles are made of a rice.

Will be in Richmond next week and can't see a menu, is bun bo hue on the menu?

Yes it is - B9

Are there vegetarian options? I see tofu pho, but am I able to get it with vegetarian broth? Thank you in advance!

Yep, I have a vegetarian friend that orders it every time we're there and loves it!

I have heard good things from colleagues, some of them state that this is their favorite ramen in Richmond, though I have to say, I'm not convinced this place deserves their high praise. When we arrived, we ordered a drink at the bar, but were quickly seated thereafter, and our drinks that we ordered at the bar simply never arrived. When we spoke to the server about this, she seemed confused, and appeared to be somewhat new, and ultimately did not honor that happy hour prices of our drinks that ended up showing up 30 minutes later. Furthermore, one drink that I ordered was regular price, but the price listed on the menu was incorrect, and again the server would not the lower price that was printed on the menu. I was not informed of this error until the receipt was printed. The ramen itself was fine. I've had better, I've had worse. I felt like the broth itself was overall way too salty, and lacked the depth the flavor that I was seeking in a ramen broth. The noodles were well cooked and al dente, and the toppings were a nice addition. All in all, my experience here was rather disappointing, and I really hope that there's better ramen in Richmond.

I had only planned on spending $60 or so but ended up spending $140 including a great tip for my waiter. I got the Fried Chicken Banh Mi, Dan Dan Noodles, and my guest ordered the Brisket Pho, and Singapore noodles alongside a Mojito and their coconut ice cube drink (blanking on the name). I loved every bite of my food. The Daikon Radish was the highlight of the Banh Mi and I was in love with every bite. Visibly dancing and gleaming with joy while eating + the great music being played also helped. I didn't eat my sandwich until it got cold as I like to finish a dish before trying another. I started with the Dan Dan noodles and had to drink 3 of the liters of water by myself to finish my meal . I took my guest's peppers and my peppers and crushed them up into my Dan Dan plate with all the seeds that came with them. In addition I also used all the chili oil paste it came with as well. It was so damn great I enjoyed every second. My guest loved their pho and didn't stop eating it and ate half of their Singapore noodles before getting full and having to take it home. They absolutely loved their drinks and it was so fun to watch the bartender make the drinks. Two shakers in hand mixing the drinks and oh boy were they strong . We will definitely be back!!! Oh and they also had chopsticks for us to use and we ate our entire meal with them. I knew I was in for a whirlwind of flavor when the ethnicities of the cooks matched the restaurant and patrons of color from Pakistani, Black, Indian, Korean, Thai, and more were dining in . Only downsides for me personally were the Singapore noodles but it wasn't my dish. I tasted them and didn't think they were for me I usually prefer a different ratio of seasoning for my Singapore noodles. My guest whose favorite dish is Singapore noodles quite adored them. Though they did say the Singapore noodles I make at home are better they still crushed it and the next morning woke up and crushed the rest with a smile on the face . Only thing I didn't like was the pho but that's my personal taste getting in the way. I don't like fish based broths but my guest ate every single last dropped and loved it! So if that's your alley go for it!!! 10/10 will try again!!! P.S. please tip the staff graciously they work so hard. If you're going to order a $100 worth of food don't be the person not tipping or tipping $10 when the service was excellent. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders.
