I'm not into peanutty sauces, nor hoison and this was a sort os soy sauce type thickened sauce with nice flavor. On to the entrée - I got chicken pho - Again, great! Year later review. The food is still quite good. I just had two small issues. One is the tables felt a bit sticky. The other one is they charge a 3% credit fee onto the bill. If anything have it where they take 3% off if you pay with cash. But besides that , I really enjoyed the combination vermicelli combo noodle bowl with bunch of meats. Wow--this meal was amazing! I'm visiting the area for a conference and staying at the Hilton. Pho 1 Grill was just a short walk away and I was pretty hungry after a full day so I placed an order online and headed right over. My food was ready for me as soon as I arrived and they made my taro bubble tea smoothie when I got there. I briefly chatted with one of the very friendly employees while my smoothie was being made. When I got back I dug into my meal. The shrimp goi cuon (summer rolls) were perfect and I love that the online ordering let me easily sub for fish sauce. I also ordered the vermicelli noodles with chicken and that seriously hit the spot! The chicken was marinated and grilled perfectly, the veggies were super fresh, and it was just the right portion. We went on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant wasn't too busy. We started with a Vietnamese iced coffee and honeydew bubble tea smoothie. Both were good although the bubbles didn't seem fresh. We also got an order of pork cha gio which were fried perfectly. The roll size is a bit inconsistent as you can see in the photo. We both got an order of pho tai. The appetizer was okay, but the egg rolls were too greasy. The service was terrible! Our server took our napkins and chopsticks, and then was nowhere to be found when we needed assistance. He was very soft-spoken, and we could barely hear his whisper. The decor was decent, and the ambiance was average, hence the two-star rating. What can I say, years later and this is still a neighborhood spot. Many of the same employees and always consistent food. Prices have increased over the years and service is never the primary feature here, but the pho is delicious, as well as some of their rice dishes. I got the combination pho. My wife got the grill pork vermicelli. We also got the shrimp summer rolls as appetizer. The summer rolls is different than others in that it is just only shrimp. Usually there are some other meat along with shrimp. The pho tasted good but a bit too sweet for me and also looking for a bit more meat. The grill pork for the vermicelli is really tender. I did a Yelp search and found this gem close to where I was located. My daughter is not a Pho fan but tagged along with me. I got the Pho with brisket and round steak and order her two fried rolls. She loved her rolls. After I put the razzle dazzle on my Pho, she decided to taste it. Now who's a fan...SHE IS!!! Service was on point, as we were checked on several times. Got takeout. I wish the online menu had more detail. I ordered mixed appetizers and the skewered chicken was dark meat. I don't like dark meat. Same for the mixed grill with noodles. Sliced chicken was dark meat. Had the menu specified dark or white, I could have ordered something else or gone to another restaurant. One of the sauces for the appetizers was a mystery. I have a favorite pho place in Richmond so I was a tad hesitant to go out of my comfort zone and "cheat" on my favorite, but Pho 1 Grill did a pretty decent job. We started with the pork soft rolls, which I thought were going to be more like a bao bun but instead were spring roll-esque with a small piece of pork, rice noodles, and lettuce, with a side of peanut dipping sauce. The pork was tough and lacking flavor but the dish overall was good, especially dipped in the peanut sauce. The pho I ordered was a bit too sweet for my taste, and the meat was cooked a bit too long but the overall flavor was tasty. They had the traditional toppings including bean sprouts, jalapeños, and basil. My husband got the banh mi sandwich which was the favorite of the night. The roll was a bit hard but the fillings were delicious. The pickled carrots were perfectly crisp and the pork was juicy, tender, and flavorful. And for $9 it was worth it! The service was okay, not anything to write home about, although we did have to wait quite a while for the check after we had finished eating. It started out very quiet but as it got later it got more and more boisterous. My only real complaint is that we were seated I guess on the wall connected with the kitchen, and the entire second half of our dinner was bombarded with banging and crashing sounds that shook the wall. We came here for the first time as our favorite Pho restaurant was about to close. We ordered an appetizer, 3 entrees and 2 bhan mi to-go. They gave us only an appetizer and 2 entrees and started to vacuum the floor with very lound noise. They said they closed at 9:30 but they started to vacuum at 8:40!?! My husband and my little daughter never got their orders and no one came to check on us. So, we decided to pay for whatever we had gotten and leave. This business is runnng on the customers without previous experience on good Vietnameese food. I have tasted a few of them in Richmond following the recommendation from my Vietnameese friends. This is the worst Vietnameese food I have EVER had. The spring roll was tasteless with chunk of rice noodles and tiniest shrimps. The problem is, I make Vietnamese spring rolls in home for breakfast, and I expected more than them. We had sea food noodles. The server didnt even know what clear noodles was. A few rubbery shrimp and fewer fish bolls, artificial crabmeat and chunks of rice noodles were floating on the very salty broth. I brought my friend to give her a taste of Vietnameese food and felt ashamed of this restaurant. They are even selling many Chinese items in the name of Vietnameese food. For lunch we started with then Crispy Shrimp "Spring Roll" (K6) and it was very nice. For our main course I had the Banh Mi (S8) and my wife had the Pho (P1). After years of driving past Pho 1 Grill, my partner and I decided to try it! Vietnamese food has a gluten free options, and they even have a GF menu online, which is great! We stopped by twice in the last month and while I do like Pho 1 Grill overall, I do feel like a villain for giving it 3 stars. --Service: Normally I start with food in my reviews. Today I'm going to start with Service. Why? Well, as nearly every other review mentions, Service is great. Multiple water refills and staff checking on you throughout your meal. They were able to confirm which items are gluten free and were very clear in delivering it to the table and confirming it, so anyone with food allergies should breath a sigh of relief. --Food: Which really pains me to bring up the food. So, all in all it's pretty good. We ordered different things both times, and here's how we felt about it. - Pho Tai: First thing I got was a safe staple, the Pho Tai. I initially thought that the broth was a little underseasoned, but at the end of the bowl after stirring everything up once the noodles were consumed, it tasted pretty good. Not overwhelmingly flavor, but nice. The toppings were all very fresh, which some pho places can't always say. - Soft pork rolls: Amazing. These are super tasty and are the perfect little springrolls. Pork is very flavorful, dipping sauce is great, and the veggies inside are fresh. Honestly I'd be happy ordering just these. - Fried tofu: Not often are fried things safe for me to eat but these were on the GF menu, so we tried them. I liked them and while they're not everyone's cup of tea, or plate of tofu, the slight crispiness and the garlic sauce was a good combination. Could have been a touch crispier? - Broken rice with grilled shrimp: My partner said it was decent but the shrimp were a little shrimpy and overall the dish fell a little short. - Tangy tom yum shrimp stirfry: Decided to try something different as I enjoy stir fries and love tom yum, but something didn't click for this dish. It tasted quite underseasoned, but overall wasn't terrible as the vegetables were fresh. If you asked me to explain the flavors though, I wouldn't have much to go on. - Vegetable pho: I hate being rude in reviews, especially places that have polite staff and good service, but the diner that had this said it was incredibly bland and didn't taste like much of anything. I get that the broth won't have the savory kick that a beef broth might have, but she gets vegetarian pho at other places and it at least tastes like... something. Not sure if it was an off day or what, but she was disappointed. - Bubble tea smoothie: Refreshing. --Cost: Just about in line with other Vietnamese places. An appetizer and two entrees was around $30. --Atmosphere: Very nice! Very clean, nice layout, very comfortable. The fanciest and cleanest pho place in the area probably. --Overall: So it's a hard one for me. And the restaurant I compare all pho from other places to ~ have high standards LOL this is my fourth time here, this time trying out their Thai Iced Tea and Housemade Flan Caramel I ordered the Broken Rice Dish with Grilled Pork and Spring Roll! I'm a huge fan of ordering the rice dishes at vietnamese restaurants. This is one of my favorite orders here! The portions were perfect! Not so much meat that I was overwhelmed, and not too little where I was disappointed. The spring rolls were crispy and yummy, and they cut up the spring rolls into smaller pieces for you. The grilled porks was very flavorful, and super good with the fish sauce. My two friends ordered the Pho Dac Biet. THE BROTH IS ALWAYS REALLY GOOD HERE! I didn't order this today, but my friends told me that the broth was food and the noodles were very chewy! Both finished their bowls. I got to try their Thai Iced Tea, which was recommended to me. I LOVE THAI ICED TEA and this is EXACTLY how I expected the drink to taste. Since I'm used to making my own drinks, I found this to be a little on the sweet side, but I'm not complaining haha. I got my drink with boba, and their boba is very soft and chewy, working well with the drink itself! Lastly, for dessert I was able to try their Housemade Flan Caramel. I haven't had flan in such a long time, but now, after trying this I am inspired to make my own too. I loved the texture ~ very soft and slightly jiggly. On my first bite, I was intrigued by the cold sweetness of the flan combined with the hint of salty sweet from the homemade caramel syrup. My only critique is that there was that maybe the caramel sauce was a little overcooked, BUT overall, STILL a good dessert move Dining in experience was pretty comfortable. The menus can be accessed online through a QR scan code. The interior and layout is already pretty spread out, complying to COVID safety and health practices. When we popped it, it was around 6/7 on Saturday so it was a bit busy but we got seated immediately since it was only 2 people in our group. They have a variety of different foods, not just pho. So if you are not a fan or pho, you can still check this place out. I ordered the pho #5 I think as it was recommended by the waiter. My boyfriend got some stir fry at which we both enjoyed. I really enjoyed everything I ordered at this place. I do not have a single complaint. I always enjoy professional wait staff on top of delicious food. I got the P8 egg noodles with wontons and pork, my boyfriend got the P7 Saigon street noodles. We also got the honey spare ribs and bubble tea smoothies. Good lunch option. This was only my second visit. I tend to forget about this place, because the location is tucked away. I ordered grilled beef with broken rice and my husband ordered pho p1. Food was tasty and super fast. Server checked on us regularly and the place is clean. It scratched my hubby's itch for pho. The dishes came with a few sauces and sprouts. I guess we should know which sauce went with each dish, but we didn't. Lunch dishes ~$10/person, which seems about right. Weak service, small servings, and I make better pho broth at home. They may make some other things well but don't come here expecting a proper pho. Broth is really light on flavor and a bit sour. The noodles were chewy and for $14 I would expect more than a tiny serving of noodles and three little paper this slices of meat. Even the condiments plate was lacking. Not Vietnamese food. Some hybrid that offers half of the taste and twice the price. The bowl is half the size of any other bowl I've had getting pho in restaurants. I'll continue to go to Pho So 1. Talk about amazing service! I had totally forgot about this place 2 years ago when I first tried it out. I was meeting up with a friend on our side of town and decided to go to the place that she had recommend before becoming a yelper. I had my lil man with me and we were easily seated with a table that I could place my lil man (he loves them lights). The service was seriously on point and very quick. I decided to start out with their wonton soup and entree of Broken rice with grilled pork and side of veggies and a springroll. The wonton soup hit the spot on the chilly evening. The broken rice with pork was pretty good - can't say that I had the best, but still really good. The egg roll was fantastic and who doesn't love the sauce that it comes with?! I ordered their pork banh mi to go so that my hubby can't complain about me not feeding him haha. I also order their chocolate bubble tea and practically inhaled that sucker down before the take our order was done. Overall, the experience was fantastic.
