I was pleasantly surprised by how large Tsaocaa's menu is and it's pretty reasonably priced. I'd recommend ordering online in advance cause it can take some time. They have plenty of seating inside. This is one of the few places in the area that has a green grape drink. My favorite is the Iced Muscat Grape Green Tea, which comes with crystal pearls and a milk foam. The drink is a slushee and the foam tastes like cheese foam. I typically sip it first to finish the foam and then use the straw to get to the pearls. They also have fried chicken, ramen, bento boxes, and egg waffles. The fried chicken reminded me of Korean fried chicken and was flavorful and crispy. I've had Tsaocaa before in Pittsburgh and enjoy their bubble tea! They have an osmanthus oolong milk tea, which I find to be somewhat challenging to find. I ordered it expecting it to be just fragrant and flavorful as the one I have before. Thought it was good, I felt like the flavor was lacking and could've been stronger. The boba was solid. I also had the chicken sandwich, which took about 10 minutes to get ready. You can pick the flavor of the chicken, and I got mine soy garlic. After waiting what felt like months for this place to open, we went to grab some dinner there once we heard they were having a soft opening. Upon entering the restaurant, you will find the place nicely decorated with ample seating. There were a couple of kiosks where you can order food on your own and it was very easy to use. Although they had a front counter, no one was available to take your order. We ordered: Chicken sandwich (soy garlic) - the breading on the chicken was soggy and a complete mess. Everything fell apart after a couple of bites. The chicken was moist but it lacked flavor. Wings (honey garlic) - this came out fresh and piping hot. It was crispy however you couldn't really taste the honey garlic sauce it was tossed in. Sweet potato fries - these were pretty soggy and didn't taste that great as a result. Coconut blue (30% sugar) - I'm not sure if their sugar levels are very different from the other boba places in Richmond, or if they forgot to only add 30% sugar level but this drink was way too sweet for us, even though the ice that came with it was melted by the time we got it so it should have diluted the sweetness some. We ended up tossing it. This may just be a personal preference for us but we were surprised at how sweet it was given we only asked for 30%z Coconut Mango Grapefruit (30% sugar) - This drink was also way too sweet, the boba that came with it was really soft. It also came with mango popping boba which was fine. We ended up tossing this as well. Please note that the fried chicken takes about 20-25 minutes to cook. Everything else was made well in advanced as soon as you put your order in but they don't give you your items until everything you order is complete. Our drinks and the sweet potato fries sat at their counter for 15-20 minutes while they were making the fried chicken. By the time we got our order, the ice in our drinks had melted and the fries were really soggy. It would have been nice if they timed things better so that we could have either gotten our drinks while waiting for our food or waited to make our drinks when our food was closer to being done. Additionally, we were not greeted by anyone when we entered nor was anyone at the front taking orders (for those who had questions or did not want to use the kiosks). Given that they just opened a couple of days ago, it would have been nice to have someone stationed up front to answer questions or helped those who had trouble with the kiosks, which I witnessed while I waited for our food. Alternatively, it would have been great if the kiosk gave a brief description of some of the items offered as their drink menu was extensive and thus overwhelming. The boba scene in Richmond is pretty mid, but Tsaocaa is a great addition and it is great to see more authentic places open up. We visited twice during this Grand Opening weekend (once on Saturday and Sunday) since they were offering a BOGO deal. Saturday - Oh boy was it busy! We stopped by around 4:30 PM. They have two self-service kiosks and main cashier person. We ordered the purple potato milk tea w/ bubbles and brown sugar milk black tea w/ bubbles, original egg waffle, and 10 piece honey garlic boneless fried chicken. They called our drinks first. The boba was super soft and chewy. I do appreciate that we can change the ice and sweetness level. However, the food took at least 30 minutes. I feel like the egg waffle was made first and just sitting on the counter while the fried chicken was being prepared. The egg waffle was not warm when we received it and it was kinda disappointed because I grew up with fresh hot Hong Kong egg waffles. The fried chicken was delicious, flavorful, and juicy. Sunday - I stopped by around 1:30PM. The two kiosks weren't working so everyone had to order at the main cashier. There were about 2-3 parties ahead of me, but I probably waited in line for 10 minutes and then another 5 minutes for my drinks. I ordered guava lime green tea w/ crystal pearl and the grapefruit & peach green tea w/ grapefruit jelly. (Note: there is a tea vs slush option, so make sure you're in the correct heading because the name of the drink doesn't say slush). Overall, both drinks were very refreshing. Overall, great location for Tsaocaa, in a shopping plaza right off the highway. The parking lot is smaller relative to the Walmart across the street, but still decent amount of parking spaces. I found this little spot while exploring near my new job. I loveeee mochi donuts so I was excited to see that this was nearby. Ordering is done on kiosks and quick and easy. The place itself is adorable- great photo spot with comfy couches and booths, a lot of seating, and a nice atmosphere. I got a rose oolong bubble tea- it was a great rose flavor, but the milk itself seemed lackluster. The boba was just fine, nothing too special. My partner got the brown sugar boba milk tea- the brown sugar flavor was honestly pretty weak, so it mostly just tasted like plain milk. Some decent competition for Brecotea at least in terms of drinks. Bubble waffles are pretty spot on- had the original and red bean green tea . I shared a hot oolong tea and it was goood. I'm not a big fan of mochi donuts and wasn't hungry enough to try them (only available on Friday sat Sunday according to a sign) but I'll definitely have to come back to try some their other non drink menu items. Plenty of space for groups and fairly easy access from 64 and Glenside. Just saw this place located by the Walmart on Forest, it's a cute shop with different Asian desserts and foods. The price is a bit high, but it had good flavor. The egg waffles had a nice texture and weren't too sweet and the boba was good with optional sweetness percentages. The bento boxes were cute and filling, the shumai tasted a little like tater tots. The chicken sandwich was good for the price and the wings had a good crunch on them. If you don't want one of their chai teas or bubble somethings, you're out of luck. There is a page of drinks that I found overwhelming (I.e., confusing). All I wanted was a diet cola... forget that. The boba options are pretty limited in Richmond but this boba spot is pretty good highly recommend and it's refreshing to see they're opened up. There's a variety of drinks. I'd recommend their coconut blue drink it's a bit on the sweet side so probably recommend 50-70% sweetness. Other drinks I'd recommend is their King of Oolong Milk Tea and Sakura Oolong Milk Tea (not sure if this one is artificially flavored) both with milk foam but it's a pleasantly floral oolong taste I'm not used to. Most of their drinks tend to be a bit sweet so Id say 50-70% is a good recommended level for sweetness. Their honey garlic wings are really good but expect it to take 15-25 mins for each order and their matcha waffle with red bean was enjoyable to bring home with a side of ice cream, don't expect it to be overpowering in matcha though. I'd definitely recommend this place over other boba shops besides Zen Cafe being my other favorite in Richmond and I'd like to mention to be kind and patient with the employees as it seems that they have the same baristas and kitchen workers working full time at long hours and it can be exhausting as a food service worker as I used to be a barista/food worker. Was mid day on a Saturday and almost out of donuts with no intention of making any more for all 5 of us, they only had a few out. Im sorry but if it's mid day you make more if you're open til late. My purple yam boba was garbage! Tasted terrible and had purple rice in it which was not on the computer menu which I ordered on or on the physical menu that was on the counter but the clerk still wanted to argue with me until I had to get loud and tell all 3 at this point I want a new drink without rice in it as I ordered to begin with! My family sat in the booth in the back left bc they loved the bear on the wall, I highly suggest no one does as we did!!! Either the sewer was backing up or rotten food was on the other side of the wall in the kitchen, all we kept getting was wiffs of shit! After eating 2 wings then losing my appetite I went to wash my hands but there was no soap in the bathrooms. I could understand if the place had just gotten ransacked and there were a ton of customers earlier but they were dead and we were literally the only people in the place. I came back to the table to see 3 partially eaten spring rolls, hands down the worst I have ever had and I have spent most of my life with the Asian community, my partner is Filipino and was disgusted by the gelatinous mixture oozing out the middle of this terrible concoction. Needless to say we left there after throwing $60 worth of the worst boba, wings and spring rolls away to head over to Jersey Mikes and try to cleanse my soul of what we just attempted to ingest at this unapologetic and very unpleasant place. They should really state this on the social media or online, I only found out when I went to the store and they had a paper saying weekend only for mochi donuts... it would also be nice to know the flavor options if they could post online. The milk bubble tea is very different than other places in Richmond. Not my preference. Ordered a taro milk tea with bubble. It wasn't mixed at all, and it was a task to dissolve the taro powder, so it just didn't taste right. We also got another one unflavored with 70% sweet but it was way sweeter than expected. We definitely enjoy other boba places in Richmond more, but it maybe just be a matter of taste and what you order - they have many options.
