One of the few shaved snow spots in the Richmond area. Their menu is MASSIVE - a bit overwhelming so highly recommend looking at it ahead of time. They have tons of preset options or you can build your own. The shaved snow was super soft and flavorful. Each dessert was prepared as described. Substitutions were made easily. The employees are friendly and the owner is very passionate. This is a dessert you should have on the spot. They have plenty of seating inside. They also have ice cream sundaes, milkshakes, floats, boba tea, and other drinks.
Unique dessert options. All three of the ones we chose were great. I personally loved the Halo Halo. Everything was clean and it was great that they have a coloring station for kids. This is a great place to come for an evening treat with the kiddos or to share with a loved one.
This was our first time trying a sweet treat like this. There are so many flavors and choices. The texture is very light and delicate, yet it stays together with practically no noticeable moisture or melting when you start eating. The flavors were delicious, very much like a light ice cream but with no cream I guess, hard to explain it, you should just try it. It got all positive reviews from my family and they can be picky.

Been on a halo halo dessert search for a while. My friend mentioned about this spot and finally had the chance to check it out. So glad I finally did. Lots of cute penguin decorations and lots of choices to pick. I def jumped on the halo halo dessert and have no regrets. Went during a week night and had some seats inside. Super cute and the service was fast. Dessert was delicious and I can't wait to come back! (They do offer coupons in the mail at times so be sure to check that out too)
This was only my second time here, but I'm hooked! I even brought my punch card with me. It's a dessert shop that specializes in shave ice/bingsu, but offers milkshakes and Merch. The flavors are crafted after some of our various favorite classic cultural desserts such as MANGONADA, Thai tea, halo-halo, s'mores, PB & chocolate , and even an affogato! The ice is so light and finely, texturally soft having almost an ice cream feel. You can order three different sizes, small, medium or large. While I recommend enjoying your dessert inside, there is an option for take out. The lids work perfectly to contain your shave ice. A large size is sufficient to share between two people. Service was friendly and incredibly fast. My sister and I both ordered a polar affogato each, which wasn't served in a cup of coffee because it would most likely melt the shave ice and you would just end up with coffee. It did have a distinct coffee flavor topped with whipped creme , chocolate sauce and brownie bits, sprinkled with cocoa powder. It checks off all the qualifications for an indulgent coffee, & chocolate dessert lover without the heaviness & richness that can cause sluggishness. While I'm a huge chocolate fan, my sister and I decided on sharing the Mexican candy one. This blew us both away! It tasted like a super good MANGONADA! Topped with chamoy, it was a pleasant hurricane of sweet, savory, spicy and salty. Not to mention the tajin bursting with lime and chiles taking it to a whole other level. It was a fruit haven disco! It sounds odd but the fresh watermelon chunks were so juicy and the perfect balance. While I love chocolate and peanut butter and fruit ( not altogether), usually PB & chocolate is going to win that war. But the mango candy has me rethinking my faves. I haven't had a bad flavor yet! If you're looking for a different dessert that isn't overly sweet and is fantastically delicious that won't put you in a deep nap without the guilt. This is your place! Please bring one to VB!
It has been quite some time since we were here. Seems most do take out. Both smell great. Very sweet desserts. The tuxedo had marshmallows and strawberries and m&m's around it. The marshmallows tasted toasted. Didn't look it though. A good dessert finish after our Japanese sushi.
I brought my daughter here as she has been begging me for weeks. I got the Mexican candy which was different but I enjoyed it. The gentleman that assisted us was friendly and quick to get us our order. The seeting area isn't big but I've seen mich smaller. It was also cutely decorated for holloween. We will most deffinalty be back.

Vampire Penguin offers a great option for those opting for something lighter than traditional ice cream or frozen yogurt. Their snow is fluffy shaved ice that is available in a variety of flavors. They have a bunch of combinations on their menu as well as a build your own option so there is something to suit everyone! I got the halo halo which is basically a deconstructed version of the traditional Filipino dessert with jack fruit, red and white beans, ube paste, flan, coconut, and condensed milk on top of shaved taro flavored snow. The taro snow was very fluffy, creamy, and not too sweet which worked well with the sweetness of the toppings. The portion was a bit small for the price (ranges from $6-9) but you can taste the quality of their snow. The man (possibly owner?) who served us was incredibly kind and helpful. When I accidentally dropped some of my toppings on the floor trying to take a picture (-__-) he quickly offered to redo the toppings for me! He also gave us a bit of history behind the concept of the Vampire Penguin and that all made our experience a bit sweeter! I can't wait to come back to try their other flavors! The moment I saw the photos on Yelp, I knew I had to stop by. It reminded me of the shaved ice you find in Hawaii. Wow! This was the closest I've had to Hawaiian shaved ice! The flavors were just right in every bite! I went with the special -- Lemonade Watermelon. Make sure to squeeze the slice of lemon on top. It will change the whole experience. It was such a nice treat! I can go for another one right now. Overall, fantastic customer service and a super friendly place. Come to find out, there are other locations throughout the USA.
I really wanted to like it but I didn't like it a lot. I'm not sure if it was the flavor or the super icy-ness (advertised as a light and fluffy). I ordered the Polar Affogato (Coffee and Vanilla Snow, Brownie Bites, Whipped Cream, Chocolate Sauce, Cocoa Powder). I ordered the medium, seemed sorta slight on the toppings, $7 plus tax. I did let my daughter try and she said the same, maybe a fruit flavored option would be better, so we maybe we shall try again. The customer service and the concept: 5/5 but the flavor and texture 3/5. I'll follow up if I try it again. They do offer a customer loyalty program which is always a plus!
A treat the ENTIRE family enjoyed. These are low calorie, and they have something for everyone. They far surpassed my ecxpectations. It was creamy, flavorful and just simply enjoyable. Terrible service. Two young ladies behind the counter stood a talked about makeup instead of helping us. They made eye contact and went back to their conversation and texting on phones. After they finally accepted and made the order rapidly retreated to the back room. So glad that we finally have a bingsoo place in the West End! Vampire Penguin has some really creative mixes and great flavors. We ordered nearly every flavor, and I loved them all and will definitely be coming back. The large size is huge though, so be sure you can finish it before you order. My favorites were the Smoreo, The Sweet Tooth, and the Polar Affogato. The Polar Affogato was lighter, but the coffee flavor fits with the vanilla well. The Smoreo and The Sweet Tooth were super sweet, but that's what I like! I also really liked the Snow Thaiger, the thai tea flavor was really strong and the oreo crumbles went well with it. read more
My first experience of shaved ice was when my girlfriend took me to this Korean Patbingsu shaved ice place in Annandale so many moons ago. This sort of reminded me of that...but smaller in quantity. I was really excited to try this place... we ended up getting it in to go boxes but in hindsight we should've just said we were eating there since that was what we ended up doing. Don't question yourself with getting the small stuff large like we did... it's super light so you will want the large and it is worth the upcharge. My husband and I got the Polar Affrogato ( I seriously could've bathed in it... it was so amazing with an icy /creamy goodness texture) and we got our kids the Oreo ( this one left something to be desired I have a feeling they forgot to add something because the guy making it questioned himself when he was making it and the owner mentioned something. It was a bit like eating shaved ice you get from your fridge with watered down chocolate sauce). At any rate, I would 100% go back and get the Polar Affrogato and something else. read more

We had no idea what to get, but one child ordered a S'moreo and my creative 9yo chose a custom creation, watermelon snow with vanilla wafers (dust) and fruity pebbles. My extra spoon and I really liked them both! I'm still not sure what makes the "snow" taste like a creamy shaved ice, but two thumbs up. They are a little expensive (~$7 each) , but presentation adds to the experience. The snow is pretty low cal too, ~75 for base snow, 250 including toppings (s'moreo).. I am looking forward to coming back and trying some other creations. read more

The staff was super friendly even when my boyfriend and I came in fifteen minutes before close last night (we're so sorry ) Also it was very clean, right before and close and even on a weekend afternoon the next day. I tried two menus - the Strawberry Shortcake last night and the Orange Snowsicle today with my family. This is not to be mistaken for snow cream; its tastes and feels a little different. The texture is nice, though, and its very light, so you can load on sweet toppings to create a three dimensional taste without killing the flavor with rich and sugar. The menu is nice, too, with a variety of fruity and creamy flavors. They give you plenty of combination options, and then there's always the option to make your own. It was a positive experience all around. Five stars ;) read more
Snow is really popular in Texas, and something I have been missing here in Virginia. When I heard about this place, especially so close to home, I was thrilled and had to go see for myself. The place is small but very cute and aesthetic. They are allowing indoor seating, which I felt comfortable doing because it was just me and my sister. There's lots of flavors - the choices to combine things or choose a creation. It's different from shaved ice and ice cream, but it's really good! I went for the mango snow with some fruit and condensed milk, and I really enjoyed it. I think there could have been more toppings and condensed milk added, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Word to the wise, it is pricey and adds up. My order was around $9!!! Would definitely recommend checking out. They're sanitary and offer something new right in time for the warmer months. read more

I've had the pleasure to stop here twice. I was surprised to see them not be listed on Yelp. They are located in the Twin Hickory Shopping Center. Their shaved ice is amazing. This isn't your grandma's snow cone. This is high end flavored shaved ice. Amazing flavors! You can get a signature dessert or you can create your own. Staff is very friendly and full of suggestions. It is in a shopping center, so parking isn't an issue. Bathrooms were very clean as I would hope at a food establishment. If you are in the area, you have no excuse to not swing by. We will return for sure! read more

Please just trust me, this is the most interesting place ever. Shaved ice that tastes like cake?? Yes! And four times less calories and sugar than I've cream?? Yea please. Vampire Hickory is one of the most unique spots around. Anytime we are in the Richmond area, we go there. Their shaved snow creations are magical and include something for everyone. So far, my favorite is the peanut butter cup; but pina colada is good too if you're looking for something fruity. read more
Vampire Penguin was such a pleasant surprise! I didn't know what to expect by the shaved ice but it was so so delicious. I really enjoyed how fluffy, soft, and creamy the snow ice tasted. The different flavors were also immaculate, I don't think you could go wrong with picking any. There are three sizes: small, regular, and large. I was pretty full after dinner and was able to split the small with another person but honestly would next time split a regular or large because of how yummy the dessert was. I stopped by here after checking out another place nearby for a Yelp event. It was a nice warm day so I thought it was the perfect time for a cool, sweet treat. The gentleman at the register didn't really greet me or say much. He wasn't rude but didn't interact with any guests. I ordered the pina colada and it was delicious! The texture of the snow was really interesting and had a lot more flavor than I was expecting. The staff who created the treats was super friendly. I am looking forward to coming back to try more flavors. read more

Super good! Shaved Peanut butter ice disc is shaved light and fluffy. Then the peanut butter & chocolate sauce are drizzled over and finally it's topped with chopped peanut butter cups! Love it, not overly sweet like regular shaved ice cones can be. Very tasty and good value for the money! read more
