Stumbled into this place after attending an event at a neighboring restaurant. I got the boba brown sugar cake shake and it was the *most amazing* boba drink I've ever had. It was sweet and creamy and the cake topping was smooth and sweet and foamy. They boba were squishy and chewy and you could actually TASTE the brown sugar flavor in them which I loved, bc I'm *picky* about boba. Nothing worse than a flavorless ball of nothing. After dreaming about this drink literally all week, l returned on Sunday afternoon with my partner. I got the same exact drink but it was nasty this time. (A different person was working, which is likely why, but It was still disappointing.) I only finished it bc I paid for it, but it just was not good. The boba were HARD and when you bit into them, you could see the lack of moisture in the middle. My partner got the pineapple passion fruit tea and liked it, aside from the boba being too hard. The honey boba they usually use, adds the sugar but since I substituted it out, it was the perfect amount of sweetness for me. (I usually get 50% sweet). It was so good! They had a glass wall displaying baked goods resembling a bookcase almost! They offered a variety from sweets like almond croissants to savory like chicken curry buns. I chose a garlic cheese bread (forgot the name) and a chocolatey bread bun. Prices were reasonable. The garlic cheese bread was soft and garlicky, though could use more cheese. The chocolate bun was pillowy soft, not overly sweet, but it surprised me with chocolate filling. Overall, a great experience, and I look forward to trying more! The place was packed when we went at around 8:30 PM on a Friday evening - seemed like everyone else had the same idea of grabbing boba after dinner, heh. My friend recommended the "Golden Oolong Milk Cap Tea" because she knew I liked oolong tea and because I don't usually see "milk cap" options for boba. I don't think you can really customize your sugar level for this drink, but the barista said that the pearls are sweetened so I added that to my drink and asked for no sugar. Drink came out super aesthetically, with the boba on the bottom, oolong tea in the middle, and milk cap on the top. I probably should have shook my drink to mix everything up first, but I was too excited to try it so I popped the straw in immediately after I snapped a quick picture. I've been meaning to try another flavor and variety, but honestly every time I go I get the drinkable strawberry creampuff. The interior is also super cute. It almost feels like it would be the atmosphere you'd get at a wedding venue or an outdoor tea party, not that I've been invited to either one of those two things before, haha. I especially enjoyed the avocado bobo drink with boba because they not only blend the avocado smoothie really well but also add in avocado chunks into the drink. The avocado taste isn't super overpowering and the drink itself is not too sweet. Its perfect when you add in the sweetened and chewy boba!! They are pretty generous with the serving and it always fills me up! Its not common to find avocado-based drinks in general so I was surprised that they had it, and even more pleasantly surprised when they make it so delicious! ZERO STARS. I'm NOT a fan of Brecotea, especially in regards to their service! The hubs and I were in the area, and since we thought it'd be great to have a couple of refreshing tea drinks for our drive home, we found Brecotea was close by with decent reviews which had aesthetically-pleasing pictures (I'm a sucker for those!). When I stepped in, there was only 1 customer ahead of me, so I thought it was perfect timing. I placed an order for two beverages (the Strawberry Milk Cap Tea and the Mixed Fruit Tea), and that's when everything went downhill. A party of 3 came in - the two employees that were out front, seemed to be tag-teaming, but never completed any of the orders - they started with one order, then stopped mid-way and then began another random order; all while ignoring the 3 customers that were waiting by the cashier. Finally, one of the staff got the group's orders in, who then proceeded to start making their drinks. Yes, I know - whatever happened to my drinks?! Who knows! The customer who was ahead of me, was still waiting for her order of a milk tea of some sort, in addition to a slice of one of the cakes from the bakery case. One of the staff then attended to the bakery case, assuming that the other employee would finish the other order(s). I saw what was my order, the Strawberry Milk Cap tea, blended, but just left in the blender, completely forgotten, which began separating. Another gentleman came in, went around the counter and picked up the drink that was made for him for him to pick-up; he must have been someone that the staff knew. Then, another customer came in to pick up a cake order, so one of the staff members had to stop making the drinks altogether and had to run back to get another employee, who was doing who knows what, to help locate/retrieve the order from the kitchen. I believe I was in there for about 25 minutes, but it really felt much longer than that. I just couldn't believe how disorganized and dysfunctional the staff was, in addition to the fact that they had complete disregard of their customers' time. I'm sorry, but the excuse of being in a pandemic doesn't work here - everyone knows the pace of tea places, and this place didn't even have a line! It was pretty ridiculous. I was so irritated that I asked for a refund. First impressions are everything, and Brecotea totally missed it. They had a moderate selection of boba options but covered the basics. I tried the creme brulee milk tea with 20% sugar and it was good. Definitely recommend shaking the drinks again after receiving them though. I also tried the black forest cake and the mango mousse. Both had a very subtle sweet flavor which is pretty hard to find. I really enjoyed both. The cake was a little dry to my taste though. Such an elegant and cute atmosphere! They had a wall of self-serve snacks and pastries which was great. And then a separate section for cakes. For the self serve section, you grab an empty tray and then fill your tray buffet style with what you want. The cashier will box it up for you when you're ready to pay. There's a bunch of seating at either the high stools or at tables/booths. They even have a crane machine (but it only takes $1,$5,$10,$20 bills, and it's mostly similar kinds of stuffed animals that are rabbits) Service was friendly and efficient. From all the times I've visited Richmond, I've noticed that places close pretty early (in my opinion/what I'm used to). It is pretty small with just a few tables, but the design was very appealing. They had a floral wall that's great for photos, the lights perfectly lit up all of the pastries in the case, and the menu was easy to read. I ordered quite a few things: Blackforest chocolate cake, Matcha cream puff, deluxe chocolate mousse cake, and a hot French Earl Gray tea. I enjoyed all of the pastries that I got. It wasn't too sweet which is what I like, but on the other hand my boyfriend wished that the pastries were sweeter. It's definitely not for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I do wish the matcha flavor was a bit stronger in the cream puff though. The tea was good too, and came out HOT HOT HOT. However, I'd probably opt for a tea with less "spices" next time. I was actually very wary, because I've had pretty terrible "boba smoothies before from pho shops and poke places in the area, so I did take a pretty careful look around Brecotea when I first walked in. It's next to Sushi King - definitely not noticeable from the road. However, the decor is very cute and light and as I walked in, an employee was holding a tray of fresh macarons and putting them in the display case! My friends and I noticed that the prices are fairly cheap compared to boba places up in NoVA or downtown - there is only one size for milk teas though! I ordered a Yakult Green Tea with bubbles, something I was very excited to see. Yakult with tea is amazing. You can't find it at the Richmond Kung Fu Tea, and the Charlottesville KFT is always out of stock. Brecotea's did not disappoint. It had the best mix of yakult flavor and tea flavor, and the bubbles were perfectly chewy. I even think they gave me more bubbles than I am used to getting from stores! I am excited for Richmond to have an Asian Bakery with variety and a cute aesthetic . I believe it's under the same owners of Sushi King since they keep on posting about it on social media and it's next door. Overall I love the decor and the flower wall. Pricing and menu descriptions are easy to figure out and right next to the items. You wanna grab a tray get your goods and bring it to the counter once done to pay . Let's start with the Boba! My drink had no taste and the boba was wayyy too HARDD. Looking at the other reviews this seems to be a trend . I am willing to go back and try the fruit teas but the boba is cancelled in my book. I do like the cup and think it's cute and sturdy. Pastries I love the black sesame bun which you could taste the black sesame and it's even better toasted. We also got the red bean bun and the taro bun. I liked the red bean but it wasn't as fluffy as your typical bun & a little sweeter. I found the red bean to be inconsistent as I had some hard beans mixed with perfectly cooked red beans on the inside . I enjoyed the taro bun and which you could see and taste the taro. I did pick up that maybe the buns have a basic recipe they use cause the batter taste similar in all 3 pastries. I don't know if they just use different fillings depending on what's being made & the bread part is the same . I would be willing to try a savory bun to test this theory out. I like that they make the pastries in house and it's fresh. As far as the set up I do find it strange that the baked goods are in the back. I think they should probably be upfront to keep the flow of traffic. I guess that's just how the space is. Pricing is on the high end depending on what you buy and they don't offer any deals or punch cards which suck. Overall I wanna see them do well and it's still new . I am sure with time some of these hick ups will be fixed hopefully. I would come back and grab a bun and tea with a friend and catch up . I just would not go everyday. The first thing to consider is the food: everything that we have been ordered(me and my family) were delicious. Not to sweet but perfect .

I personally wouldn't come here for their boba because I don't really taste the tea in their drinks and they are typically made pretty sweet (although you can adjust the sugar level, if you wanted). However, what I do love coming here for is their crepe cakes and lil pastry goods in the glass case! If you're into durian, they sell delicious durian crepe cake here! Sometimes, they sell out of it before the day is over, so I can only assume that it is popular amongst other durian lovers. The mango crepe cake is another one of my go-to desserts because it is very delicious and creamy. Like most matcha crepe cakes, theirs is a bit dry-- but the matcha flavor is all there which is really good. The pastries at this location can be a little pricey, but probably the only place that I know (so far) that serves Crepe cakes. Where were you guys when I was deciding on buying a crepe machine maker to make my own cakes?! haha I've ordered their dark chocolate cake and tiramisu. Both were made deliciously well (be sure to have a cup of milk with you when you consume those). I love their little floral wall that they have for you to do a selfie or, as you see in my pic, an Instagram pic of their tea in front of the floral wall. This is probably the closes "bubble" tea by my house that I can get. As my other tea reviews, I seem to always get some sort of passion fruit haha. I've only gotten their passion fruit tea BUT....with different toppings. My favorite topping so far has been their jelly. The crystal one seems like a good choice, but I honestly did not taste it in mine. I'd like to try out their baking items that they have along the side of the kitchen sometime but I can only consume so much carb in a day haha. Parking is pretty easy there, I think it got less filling when TJ Max was closed there. Interior is gorgeous and clean inside. Service is pretty good (it may be slow at times depending on the time of day and order), and the staffs are friendly and happy to help you with your order. Good food for reasonable, if somewhat, expensive. Fairly swift service considering line. If you are looking for a higher class feeling asian style cafe, this is it. Gives me K-pop or J-pop vibes (not too sure as I'm not very informed about such things). read more
