    Fresh Fruit Cake Half Slice
    Keerthi D.

Shyndigz is a dessert shop near VCU's campus known for their gigantic cake slices and high quality sweet treats. I used to come here often when I was an undergrad, and they've gone through a lot of aesthetic changes, but the cake still hits the same. This location is right across the street from the Market ToGo shop where there's a convenience version of the main shop. There's a free parking lot in front of the complex as well as street parking. There's both indoor seating and outdoor seating, making this optimal for a date, hangout with a friend, or just to get a dessert after a meal. When you enter, there's a food truck where you can order a coffee or drink and then you can order a dessert made fresh from the counter and pay. We got the fresh fruit cake half slice and the chocolate bundt cake. Both were moist, flavorful, and the perfect amount of sweet. Would highly recommend if you're craving something baked for a reasonable price and big portion.

Shindigz is always a number 1 go to in RVA. The food is always amazing... although I've never had anything besides their baked goods. I did pick up a cinnamon roll yesterday and my lanta. That was delicious. I usually go with a gaggle of girlfriends and we get cakes, or other sweet treats. The new location is great too. A lot more room to sit outside, and they have a cute little drink stand in the front. They do have some things that you can take to go. I wish they still made their oatmeal cream pie ice cream! Maybe they do and I always miss out, but I haven't seen it for a few years. Mind you, the non food products they carry in store are quite expensive. I've never purchased anything from there. I was considering a candle... but then saw the $45 price tag and it's about the size of a single wick bath and body works candle.

Loved Shyndigz! Everything was so cute here and everyone was so nice. I talked to so many different people, staff and customer, and got all of their opinions of favorite items. A couple from South Carolina said they stop every time a get slices of Carrot cake to take home, since it is just so good. A staffer told me that everything was good, but his favorite items were the Sea Salt Caramel slice and the Fresh Fruit slice. Another said that she will always swear by the German Chocolate slice and the Oreo pie. It was a great experience. We ended up getting: a slice of German chocolate cake, a slice of sea salt caramel cake, and a piece of peanut butter/chocolate pie. There was a deal to buy three desserts, and get a fourth free. We chose the lemon bar for this one. Everything was tasty and demolished. The cake was moist and very rich. I did wish the slices were not so cold. Most things are kept in the fridge. This did made the slices a bit hard to eat, but it was not unbearable. This could be combatted by letting your slices sit out for a bit. My only real critique was with the lemon bar. I wish there was a bit less filling, to make the bar firmer. It didn't not have a good balance between being sweet and tart. It was good, but just a bit too tart leaning, for my taste.

TLDR; without a doubt, the BEST place for dessert! Vibe - this is my first review of shyndigz new, larger location. If you know Shyndigz you know it's always a vibe! The market is so fun to browse and there's lots of seating both indoors and on the patio. There's also tons of novelty items that would be perfect for a baby shower gift. Food - it goes without saying that the dessert is excellent! The key lime pie, s'mores bar and oatmeal cream pie are all ordered regularly in our house alongside the spotted cow and salted caramel chocolate cake. Shyndigz new location also includes savory entrees! This time we ordered the pepperoni pizza, grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup was EXCELLENT but the rest of the dinner food was disappointing. The portions were small and overpriced. We'll keep coming for dessert but probably skip dinner next time.

Shyndigz has the best cake slices, cookies, and sweet treats for almost any event or special occasion. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and I love browsing their shop for different home decor items, specialty gifts, and more!

Left with more than I planned. Zero regrets, zero apologies.

Shyndigz stopped me at the door and that was before I even went inside. A clean black and white exterior signals that someone thought this through, and they did. What lives inside defies a single category: botanical bar, cocktail lounge, bakery, boutique, bistro. None of it feels confused. It feels curated. The chicken pot pie arrived as pure comfort, a dimpled biscuit pressed to the bottom of the bowl creating a moat of something deeply southern and deeply right. Then the Belle Island cake introduced itself: eclair cream, soft oatmeal cookie, a whisper of pecan, echos of chocolate chips, ganache-esque frosting. It did not ask permission. The cookie case is its own conversation. The peanut butter cookie. The salted chocolate chip. And then the swamp bar, peanuts, chocolate, marshmallow, chocolate, which is either genius or a problem depending on your self-control. The fruit cake layered with fresh blackberries, strawberries, and pineapple beneath cream cheese icing was elegant without being precious. Red velvet held its own. And the 4x4 rice crispy treat sitting there like a crown, unbothered, unapologetic. This is the kind of place a bon vivant finds and quietly keeps to themselves for a while. I thought about it. I chose not to.

I loved the whole vibe of the restaurant. I loved the greenery in the restaurant, the selection of fun local merchandise and the food selection of savory and sweet. The gluten free banana pudding was a special find and I tried the best Irish coffee on St. Patrick's day. Excellent service the waiter was so helpful.

I've been to Shyndigz so many times across there move and changes during Covid to their new location. Go here for great dessert and if you want to stick around, grab a coffee to enjoy your sweets right then and there. There are so many cakes, brownies, bars, and things sobered in chocolate but the cakes are my go to. Their seasonal fruit cake is my go to! It's perfect to grab and go to enjoy your sweets treat after dinner!

I feel like Shyndigz is Richmond's most iconic spot for cakes. And for good reason! They have a huge selection of delicious cakes and baked goods. It's moved around throughout my years here, and it's current location is still super charming with its local gift shop, coffee corner, and bakery section. This spot is great for cakes of all kind. You can even choose between three or five layered cakes. Their cakes are decadent here. It's great for gluten-free cake too. My one friend with celiac always gets his birthday cake from here. On a recent visit, I enjoyed a large (5 layer) spotted cow cake (chocolate with cream cheese icing) and a lemon bar. I came on a weekend and the line was very long. I didn't mind because I got to admire all the yummy looking desserts in the display case. This is a signature spot in Richmond for a reason! I love that they do cake of the weeks here too. Every Richmonder has to try Shyndigz at least once.

The desserts here are absolutely amazing!!! You can tell they are made with love. A little pricy but worth every penny paid!!! I took my daughter on a date to their sister restaurant, the Fancy Biscuit, and we walked over after and it wasn't a disappointment! The customer service was just okay... no one really seemed to be happy to be there... except me lol... We got carrot cake, oatmeal cream pie cake, gingerbread cookies, and a pecan bar and after i got home, I wish we'd gotten more things to try. We will be back!

These cakes had my family Ooooing and Ahhhhhing as they took bites. So many flavor profiles. The Chocolate Salted Carmel was superb, a perfectly thick chocolate cake with the richest layer of dark chocolate cream and add on a touch of salted carmel on top. Wow. Simply perfection. The Fruit Cake was also spectacular and paired well in opposition of the chocolate cake. Fresh fruit flavor throughout. So satisfied. I definitely need to try every single flavor when I go back next.

I only have good things to say about my favorite dessert spot in Richmond. Shyndigz is a must-visit in Richmond. Known for their massive, over-the-top cakes and cozy café atmosphere, Shyndigz is more than just a bakery, it's a dessert destination. I love the aesthetic of this place. super cute. Super aesthetic. The vibes are always phenomenal. Customer service is great. The cakes are so good. If you follow their Instagram, they always post a monthly calendar of the flavors. I love the rotating menu of the belle isle flavors. You can always get something new. I love the red velvet Oreo I got back in December. That was incredible. I recently tried the cookie butter during this visit. It was good however a little too sweet for me. They also have a Belle Isle flavor that's passionfruit cheesecake flavor that I love as well. I wish they bring that back. I got the peanut butter Oreo for my partner that he LOVED. They also have a section in here where you could get prepared meals, drinks and a decent amount of seating.

They have a huge array of cake slices and baked goods and you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Snagged a slice of pumpkin cake to-go which was soo delicious! Perfectly spiced and moist with nuts and cream cheese frosting. A bit pricey but still worth it and a great place to grab dessert! Very limited seating inside.

Calming spot to grab a treat, get some work done/journal, or catch up with friends in an aesthetic and modern cafe. Ordered the paradise tea with mango and avocado. I settled on the pistachio cream filled pecan pastry, the almond twist, and strawberry shortcake. The beverage menu was extensive: matcha, flavored teas, cocoa, espresso/coffee, and more. We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.
