We had a great experience at WPA Bakery! We wanted to have pies are our wedding so they worked with us to do a tasting and we loved everything we tried. There's outdoor and indoor seating, we chose to eat outside since it was so nice out. Having a dairy and gluten allergy can be difficult when it comes to finding good desserts, but these pies were so delicious you would never know! We chose 3 of them to order for our wedding but we enjoyed all of them. I definitely want to come back to try so of their breakfast sandwiches, cakes, coffees, and donuts. Everything looks amazing! Bought a custom cake for my bf's birthday from WPA Bakery. The process was super easy and the baker was responsive, easy-going, and wonderful! I only requested a simple vanilla confetti cake with white buttercream and coffee icing for the letters. She also gave me extra sprinkles on the side! The price was $40 which is not bad for a custom cake that me and my partner kept for a while (froze the leftovers; it was still quite good). Next time, I would like to try a more complicated recipe so it is more worth the customized price tag. A simple cake like the one I ordered would have been more affordable to make on my own or buy from the store. That is why I am giving it a 4 star. The cake didn't taste AMAZING but it was good. Parking is street only but I didn't have much trouble picking up the cake at around 3:30 pm on a Wednesday. I ordered many times from this bakery. So far it is the best bakery that can do gluten-free, vegan and soy free cakes and pies. Bakers are always very responsive and open to do different flavors and combinations that are not on the standard menu. In the past year I ordered here a vanilla cake with lemon filling, chocolate cake with vegan Nutella and strawberry filling, and chocolate cake with peppermint frosting and covered with candy canes. For my recent birthday I ordered blueberry pie and it was fantastic too. They are also reasonably priced. Highly recommended this place and will order again. I wanted to come to WPA since they are one of the few bakeries that always carry gluten free items. The person behind the counter was in quite a rush and didn't greet us or really say hi. I'm not a big bread pudding fan but I wanted to try something different. They also had GF cookies, coffee cake, macarons and much more. I was pleasantly to see on the menu that they carry GF breakfast sandwiches as well. The bread pudding was okay. The Caramel honey glaze is what made it taste better. Ordered a vegan cake from WPA for a 50th birthday - the options for cake base and frosting were basically endless, even given the vegan restriction. We went with a coffee sponge and coffee frosting - it was delicious! Not too sweet, not too soft, addictingly - I basically ate leftover cake for over a week after the party. The best part was, since it was so big, we were worried about refrigeration, but WPA explained the vegan version (with no eggs or dairy) would stay good overnight on the kitchen counter. Tried this for the first time, right next to Laura Lee's and the bicycle shop. Unfortunately they had another shop that closed during the pandemic. Tried the canales - sweet, maybe a little dry. The muffins were the stars - the blueberry was sweet, not heavy, it just felt like what all blueberry muffins should be like. The blackberry chocolate chip had the chocolate melted in perfectly with fruit/seeds breaking up the heaviness. Leaving family in the Richmond area, I Yelped a coffeehouse for breakfast to go and came across WPA. Nice ambiance, excellent service, and really good baked goods. Only drip coffee, in a fruity, light roast house blend that I disliked to the point of not drinking. Ham egg and cheese biscuit was huge and fresh, but the eggs weren't seasoned at all, and biscuit was a little doughy. This place is so cozy and in a good location - reachable, but a little outside the city hustle and bustle. We show up at 9am, which for bakeries is approaching late morning. I ordered a black coffee, and despite it being 9am, it was still fresh! Love that! They rebrew their coffee regularly; it can be hard for businesses to keep up with that. Another thing I love about that is they have the main nondairy milks available at the coffee station or by request complimentary for your coffee. Nice touch! The gluten free coffee cake is so good!! I also tried a paquette? I hope I spelled that right. It's one of their savory pastries; mine was with ham and cheese. My only complaint is... I asked about it, and wasn't warned there was mustard in it. It was nice, but didn't pair well with my black coffee. Mustard is a prominent flavor and not everyone cares for it, so it should have been mentioned when describing the item. If you need gluten free cakes, cupcakes, or pies for a birthday. I very much recommend WPA bakery. Be sure to give them 48 hours notice, and maybe a little more around weekends and holidays. read more

Overrated. Don't get me wrong. It's a nice neighborhood spot that's GREAT to have if you live nearby, especially in walking distance, but by no means, don't trek here. I stopped in and grabbed a ham and cheese pastry and a chocolate cupcake. Both were quite mediocre. And I was starving. Had they been great, I would've polished off both before getting home. This was a no brained when I learned that that have a dedicated section of their kitchen for vegan and allergen fre baking and creating. This was necessary for my child. The ordering process was so stressless. The hound woman that took the order allowed me to provide my ideas and assured that they could make what is possible, possible. The cake is a lemon cake with raspberry icing. It has to be Halloween themed and a last minute request form sprinkles was honored as well. I was able to pay ahead and that was easy also. We got a mini cake and it was more then enough to feed 6 people with generous slices. I am not vegan in any way shape or form, but the cake was tasted good. It was moist and dense, but still soft and tasty. The icing was good. I never had raspberry icing and I am not a fan of raspberries, but the cake altogether was good. I also bought a pastry the day that I paid for the cake. Please do no ask me what if is called because I do kid remember. I know it has spinach, feta, and artichoke inside a flaky pastry. Found this little gem not far from my daughters place up at VCU (RVA). WPA is a cozy spot, very welcoming with indoor and outdoor seating, awesome decor and a good playlist! But don't let the ambiance fool you! There is some serious, top notch baking going on here! Everything is made from scratch, classic, yet creative-from the flavor offerings and new items. We had a chicken sandwich that came on fresh baked bread with chips and a pickle slice. Superb sandwich. I found myself mad that we agreed to share! There was triple berry muffin on sale as it was the last one, snagged it for $1 and felt like I robbed WPA. One of the best, moist muffins I have had in years. We did not have a great experience due to poor customer service from some of the staff. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches and after 25min still no food, so we asked what was happening. They checked with the kitchen and told us that the food was lost and they had no idea what had happened (this was not a busy morning at all) The poor rating is not for the lost food, things like that happen, instead the poor rating is for the fact that at no point in the conversation they apologized or said sorry for what happened, which I believe is basic customer service.
