I could go on forever. My personal favourite is the pasteles de nata, small Portuguese egg cuatard tartlets. My mother likes the kouign-amann, my partner the brownies, my other the spanakopita-like pastry. The actual baked goods that we could try get sort of mixed reviews from me. I opted for a vanilla bean mini cake that ended up being $9, and a pumpkin cookie sandwich that was either $7 or $8. (There are no prices listed, so you have to ask.) The cake was cute, about the size of a really large cupcake (or two small cupcakes), and I definitely could have eaten the entire thing in one sitting, but I personally didn't care for the buttercream. I know it sounds like a totally *Karen* thing to say, but the buttercream is too buttery. Hear me out though, if you just eat something that is really butter-heavy and not a good ratio of powdered sugar and liquid, it actually just leaves this really greasy film in your mouth and on your lips in my opinion. The flavor was okay, but there was just way too much icing and therefore WAY too much butter so it was kind of unpleasant. The cookies were okay, but again, the buttercream in the center made it sort of unpleasant. Definitely eat them cold because the buttercream just slips and slides out if it is room temperature. I know for next time that I would just opt for the cookies. I would definitely suggest the bakery utilize social media way more to keep up to date on what is currently available, and list prices.

One of the things I instantly noticed on the menu was their vegan breakfast sandwich with a homemade bean-based sausage patty. I got myself an egg and cheese sandwich on a buttermilk biscuit (delicious, by the way) with pepper jack cheese, veggies (tomato, lettuce, and avocado), and for a dollar extra, one of their vegan breakfast sausage patties. I was immediately impressed by how flavorful the patty was- you get a crispness upon the first bite and then the creaminess of the beans afterwards. It was absolutely incredible in a way I can't even describe. I also got the Thai iced coffee, which tasted as sweet as a typical Thai iced tea, yet in coffee form. I may only be spending a few days in Richmond, but I'm absolutely coming back next time I'm here to try more things. DIVINE! The woman behind the counter was super sweet too. Since we didn't come early enough, a lot of things were sold out but they still had a good amount of stuff. We ordered a Chocolate Almond Croissant, Cinnamon Sugar Braid, and the Peaches & Cream Tart. People weren't joking when they said that Sub Rosa were masters when it came to laminated dough because all of these were so flaky and buttery. Ever pastry we got was delicious but the Chocolate Almond Croissant was a real stand out. The almond chocolate filling was so rich. Possibly one of the sweetest I've had but it was really good. Definitely going to take the time to go early next time to try their other stuff but it was worth it.
