16oz autumn spice latte. Oct2024
Jenny H.

This was one of those days I'm reminded why we tip after service and not when we are checking out. My iced ube latte was definitely lacking in ube this time around Could I go up and ask them to remake it - probably, but it seems wasteful and awkward.

Gingerbread latte with oat milk

I love how much the coffee scene has grown in Richmond over the years. This spot is one I can rely on whenever I visit (which is often). I've loved them for their ube lattes because it's done so well in the summer. And now I love their seasonal holiday menu -- the gingerbread latte was amazing! The hints of ginger were strong but I dug it because you can't have enough ginger in the winter. Always a great idea to get as much ginger as you can inside of you. lol. If you need a dairy alternative like me, their options are oat milk. There are no nut-based milks. Also, this is a great place to grab coffee beans! I have yet to grab one but one day I will. This space is big so you definitely have a place to sit. BUT the lines do get extremely long during the weekends. It moves though so you aren't on line for too long. And if it's not too crowded on the weekend day that you are there, you can grab a seat. I always take mine to go! Fair warning that the parking lot is always packed since they have like 7 spaces? But there is street parking which I always end up doing. Definitely a solid spot for a coffee run!!

Oat milk cappuccino

Solid coffeeshop with experienced staff. Had my usual oatmilk cappuccino and a steamer for the kiddos which were all great.. The variety of seating arrangements was super helpful - a dedicated spot for work/study, conversations, and a perfect converted outdoor overflow (super warm with the overhead heaters and not one but leaky!). Wish they had a bit more to offer from the pastry case but tbh if you're there for good espresso it hits the mark.

Roasters, great coffee shop; good variety of brews and they make good pour overs and also lattes. The service was good, and loves the vibes.

Ube Latte

I came here with a friend over the fall and had their Ube Latte. Really good Ube flavor. We worked here for a few hours which was nice, lots of room to spread out and work. I was a little disappointed in food options considering we were here working for a few hours. But I did get some beans for my mocha pot and they ground them perfectly for me, second time I have had them and still love them!

Latte with honey and cinnamon

During my day trip to Richmond, I needed a little pick me up. Blanchard's was a perfect choice! Sleek and modern interior with local beans and brews to choose from, and even wine! Almost got a pastry but passed this time. I'm sure they're great too. Ordered a latte with honey and cinnamon (my go-to) and it was perfectly sweetened. Loved the cute latte art too. Staff were very friendly and the coffee specials were explained to me (very interesting, strawberries and cream, pandan, and more!) Would love to frequent this place if I didn't live out of town.

Everyone's favorite! (and for good reason here) If you're a local, you already love Blanchard's. If you're finally ready to ditch the burnt beans from the mermaid spot, you will be pleasantly surprised that actual coffee is delicious! Their matcha and special seasonal drinks are incredible. Ordering via the web is a drag, wish there were an app, but like clockwork, my pickup order (on busy work days) is always ready right on time before I head to the office. The service is great, the dining space here is one of the best for co-working or studying, and if you've got some free time, check out their classes!

Espresso tonic

I've only gone for coffee service and gotten my usual, which is either an iced cold brew or an espresso tonic when I need to quench my thirst. I always have a great experience when I'm here! The flow of the cafe is natural and encourages staying for a while and seating is plentiful with indoor and outdoor options. Not in the mood for coffee? They've got a nice grab and go beverage area as well and large format cold brew. They also host local run clubs for post run coffee! Conveniently located off Broad with adjacent parking lot. Be sure to check them out!

Small parking lot (at least they have one), but there's usually on-street parking to be had right out back. Large seating area, including a patio, for a coffee shop. They need it. This place stays packed. Expensive cup of brew, but if you're spending $6 on a specialty coffee, may as well be at a local spot. Delicious and potent java! I tried the Salted Maple Creme Latte today, and I'll be buzzing all night long, I'm sure. I love the atmosphere conveniently located in Scott's on Broad.

Cappuccino & holiday latte

Favorite coffee shop in Richmond!! They have always had excellent coffee but the expansion of their space is the real winner for me. The vibes are immaculate here and you can for sure find a seat and a quiet place to work (with outlets!) in one of their many rooms. The main space is still nice and bright although it's definitely louder than the other rooms, but a great space for conversation. It takes a special coffee to wow me in a way that I'm still thinking about it weeks later but Blanchard's does it for me every time.

Iced Chai
Katelyn D.

When it comes to coffeeshops - I'm a sucker for a good chai. Thankfully, Blanchard's at all locations consistently delivers a smooth chai that is equal parts sweet and spicy. Alongside their pastries I've had over the years, they're always fresh and filling leaving me feel content - epically their chocolate croissant. Blanchard's is perfectly balanced in their flavor, warmth, and presentation. I don't drink coffee, but all my coffee loving friends swear by this place and frequently is the top of their recommendation list. Their staff is kind and warm - even when they have large crowds of people. Their locations - all beautiful in design offer spaces to chat or study which I appreciate. Highly recommend to locals or visitors from afar if looking for some of the best coffee in Richmond.

Winter drink specials (Feb. 2024)

Came here on a Sunday around 10:30 and so did everyone else! That goes to show, they are doing something right at Blanchard's! There were about 4 groups in-front of us in line when we arrived, and I was very impressed with how quickly they got to us. Once we ordered, we did not wait long for our drinks to be ready either. There is very limited parking in the designated parking lot, but we were able to find a spot on a side street behind. As for dining in, there is a lot of seating inside (and a variety too) as well as some outdoor tables. I got the Iced Banoffee Latte which was really unique, but I enjoyed it! While I only got a coffee, they also offer some pastries, including packaged gluten free and vegan treats, and bags of coffee.

Cold brew lemonade

Since moving to RVA, I've come to know the blanchard's brand of coffee. It's sold at many stores and is pretty popular here. When i discovered, they also have a coffee shop I knew I wanted to stop by. Came through on saturday morning. The shop itself has a super modern/minimalist vibe- very bright and spacious. The coffee itself is of course guaranteed to be good. I had an interesting cold brew lemonade combo. I don't know why the citrus and bitterness works so well but it DOES. The place got SUPER busy and filled up quite quickly on the weekend.

Not impressed. The drinks lacked flavor and just didn't taste right. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this coffee shop.

Ask the Community - Blanchard's Coffee

Is this a quiet nook to do some work or is it more for socializing? Do they have outlets?

They have outlets. When I was there work, solitude and socialization were all occurring. Depends on the time of day and how much concentration you need. It’s a lovely place, but not a shared work space.

Is indoor seating available at this time?

Yes it is. I was there less than a week ago.

Calming spot to grab a treat, get some work done/journal, or catch up with friends in an aesthetic and modern cafe. Ordered the paradise tea with mango and avocado. I loved the textures and layers of flavors. The drink was filling and lasted me a while, not watery but refreshing. The mango tasted fresh and avocado creamy. I haven't tried the pastries at this location, but have at their other Richmond cafe. Great cakes and buns made fresh in-house. Easy to find parking at the lot outside. Service is pretty quick.

The ambiance was clean and orderly. Upon entering, you grab a serving tray lined with parchment and some tongs. The items are in a glass enclosed display that you have to open and place your selections on your tray for purchase. I settled on the pistachio cream filled pecan pastry, the almond twist, and strawberry shortcake. The beverage menu was extensive: matcha, flavored teas, cocoa, espresso/coffee, and more. We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,

It is fast casual - you order at the kiosk and grab a place to eat, listening for your number and/or text to alert you the food is ready. We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday night. It was busy and I grabbed one of the last two tables. It got very busy shortly after we placed our orders. The dining area is pretty big with plenty of bar seating around the windows. While we all ordered one after the other, our food didn't come out that way. Most of the food came out in about 25-30 minutes. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy! Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. Two friends enjoyed the collards. The only person who was underwhelmed was the person who got the Asian sandwich. Overall, if I wanted a good chicken sandwich and a Buttermilk and Honey was nearby, I'd place an order.

We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."

The Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty at times, and there is no easily accessible power, which makes longer work sessions tough. When the weather is nice, though, their screened-in outdoor seating is a great place to work for a few hours.
