    Cookie butter latte

This is the CUTEST little neighborhood cafe. I recently checked out Black hand coffee and it's a small coffee shop with very few seating, however on nicer days. They have such a stunning patio with plenty of seating. The customer service here is great, very charming. I tried their cookie butter latte and I thought that was good.

Wow! Black Hand Coffee was awesome! I got a 20oz Latte with oatmilk and lavender. It was refreshing and balanced. The atmosphere was very peaceful; it seemed like a wonderful study spot. The staff was extremely kind and went above and beyond. I will definitely be visiting again. Fair pricing as well!

This is a cute little neighborhood coffee shop with a steady stream of customers so I decided to stop in. I got my go to drink, a nonfat vanilla latte, and was underwhelmed by it. It was tepid at best, with very little discernable coffee flavor. It tasted like a warm vanilla milk. On top of that, there were screaming kids running around the small shop, which really detracted from the overall experience. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

    Iced oat milk chai tea

Came back for my usual iced dirty chai! They had the seating area open. It's so cozy inside and they have different homemade goods available from local artists. This time that had a bunch of cute crocheted animals available for purchase. The servers are always super kind and the food and is made fresh. I say this because some places will give you microwaved eggs, but that's not the case here! I love how it's tucked in a neighborhood so you can grab your drink and go on a nice walk or hangout in the cafe.

Cute little coffee shop! I was looking for a place to grab a coffee in the museum district and it was the only place open later in the afternoon. The young woman working was very sweet and helped me settle on the cookie butter iced latte. It was very good! After I got my latte there was a rush of people. It was nice to see it was busy on a Tuesday. Parking was very easy too. Found a spot right outside of the shop!

My partner and I both got the medium roast drip coffee and enjoyed it. I like that they have a creamer station so I can portion the creamer and sugar myself. The outdoor seating is super cute. I got a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. It was standard but in a good way, it was tasty and satisfied my breakfast sandwich craving. I liked that the bagel was toasted but still soft and that the cheese was melted just enough. My only complaint would be the bathroom, the toilet was quite dirty and air freshener would be a nice addition. Overall super cute, classic Richmond hipster coffee shop!

    Double espresso

Stopped in here while I was dashing into work in the morning. When I need something quick and strong, I usually just order a double espresso. It had been years since I've been by black hand. It's always been a place that I've liked. And today I learned it is still great! The coffee itself was delicious. But my favorite part was how incredibly quick the service was. I was in and out in about 60 seconds. The staff were friendly. This place is a quaint and cute. They usually have art from local artists on display and for sale. It seemed to be a good spot to come work, there were a few people set up with their laptops.

Vanilla and Lavendar with Almond Milk 16oz hot latte $6.20

BLUF: Great coffee. Needs more specialty drinks listed on the menu. Chill service. Drinks (4/5): They don't have a lot of written specialty drinks, but you can always make your own with different flavors. But keep in mind, each syrup is $0.85 extra. The almond/oat/soy milk is also $0.85 extra. A medium hot latte is $4.55. They have a "staff favorites" chalkboard with 3 specialty drinks on it. Today, I got the Vanilla Lavender medium hot drink. It was absolutely delicious; it had a bit too much foam but the flavor was perfect. Service (5/5): The staff is always quiet & chill. Just sitting there, waiting for people to talk to them. I really appreciate that since no one wants an "in your face" batista BEFORE you've had your coffee. Ambiance (5/5): When you walk in, you immediately see the counter. When you walk around, you can see local paintings & pottery that's for sale. Small paintings are $10, mediums are $15, and large are $20. They pottery ranges from $30-$45 (from the ones I picked up). There's some indoor & outdoor seating. When it gets busy, the place gets very crowded since it's a small area, so the line wraps around everywhere. TLDR: Great coffee. Needs more specialty drinks listed on the menu. Chill service.

I arrived at 3:50pm - store closes at 4 a and the barista said he would not brew another cup of coffee for me. I think if you are an open coffee shop, you should serve coffee. Only in Richmond 1 day and made some effort to get here before closing. Could have been a hero review today, but instead really bummed out a customer. Silver lining. Since this place would not serve me, actually found an amazing place (bustling, great service, would have definitely had coffee 10 minutes before closing) just down the road. Don't settle! Find a better coffee place and have a better day.

I love a good neighborhood coffeeshop - and just about everything location-wise and ambiance-wise is prime for this shop. Their logo is super cool too! Overall liked what I ordered - initially requested a drip coffee with a pump of cookie butter syrup, but with it being the end of the day + the drip not being fresh, the barista offered me an americano instead - and let me keep both! My partner enjoyed her Dirty Chai too. Perhaps it was a product of walking in when we did (an hour before close) but the barista was pretty frazzled and very haphazardly + messily put our drinks together - and the place needed some music... but again, cutting it some slack because we were there later! And I appreciate how it is open later than most other coffeeshops in the area :)

    Iced Dirty Chai
    Ailun H.

I'm usually a black coffee person but my friend told me that the iced chai latte here was fantastic so I figured I give it a try! ICED DIRTY CHAI (12 OZ.) - 4.50 If you want it with alternative milk options, it's an up charge of 75 cents! The iced dirty chai with oat milk was a good choice this morning and the chai flavor was fantastic! It is a bit pricy with the milk alternative (after tax it was $5.46?) but definitely a worthy splurge. I would prefer a stronger chai flavor though. They sell coffee beans here too. Next time, I'd wanna try their black coffee options.

I was a bit disappointed that they only offer whole or oat milk, as I was used to having more milk options (like low fat or nonfat). I can't drink whole milk and I'm not a big fan of oat milk. The barista recommended that I try the oat milk and said if I didn't like the drink, they would make me something else. I asked for light oak milk and hoped for the best. My latte was served in layers, so I got a big blast of oat milk in my first sip, but after I mixed my latte, it tasted so much better. The coconut flavor really came through and offset the oat milk flavor. I was really happy with my drink and with the super helpful barista. I'll for sure be coming back!

As anyone can see by my other reviews, I give a lot of 4 and 5-star ones, and am generally not a complainer. When I rate something low, there's really a reason. There was nothing for me to like about this place. First, there was no signage to speak of. It wasn't real easy to find. I didn't even know I had found the right place until I saw the name of the place on the bags of coffee. When I came in, it was a cold feeling, not a friendly one. Every person I dealt with behind the counter wasn't warm or inviting. I got the feeling that they felt I "should have known" where to order, and "should have known" where to wait, or to pick up my coffee. I got a takeout hot coffee but had to interrupt and kindly ask for a lid. And when I did I got a vibe like I was an irritation or something. I went out to the car with my coffee and told my husband I hoped it was really outstanding coffee with what I had to go through to get it. And you know what, it wasn't all that great. It's not worth going back for. I don't get why people like or recommend this place.

It is a cool place to spend time in town, grab a coffee, and do some solid people watching. The breakfast burrito is great, and the coffee is pretty good too. The staff is extremely nice, and everything always comes out as quickly as possible, which I really appreciate. It is not the best place to work from home during the winter. The Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty at times, and there is no easily accessible power, which makes longer work sessions tough. When the weather is nice, though, their screened-in outdoor seating is a great place to work for a few hours. Overall, it is an easy spot to recommend, whether you are stopping by for breakfast, hanging out with friends, or just looking for a relaxed place to spend some time.
