A wonderful shop that is missing a decent seating area - but otherwise a solid choice for any coffee enthusiast. Vast selection of beans, accessories, etc. to pick from - and appreciate the inclusion of a coffee bar where you can get something to go :) anywhere I go for the first time, I always just get a black coffee just to see what their baseline is and this was a wonderfully delicate cup with some pungent/bold flavors. Overall the perfect place to grab a gift for a friend who loves coffee, or treat yourself to a nice new addition to your own setup. Will definitely be circling back here soon :)

Cheese Danish

Here's what I got: Strawberry Matcha: this is a may special. oooooo just how i like it. creamy, not too green tea tasting, and a perfect amount of strawberry flavor. Cheese danish: sooo good. the bread is soft and the cream cheese is fluffy will be returning

I came here with my cousin Jan who is quite the regular so she told me exactly what to get. The coffee I flew home to Florida was so good and we do get very good Cuban coffee but I'd definitely stop in and bring Rostov's coffee home again! I also met the owner who bagged up our special grinds she was super nice! Very cute store with plenty of gifts if you need one! Feel free to send me more coffee!!!

So many mugs!

Such an underrated coffee shop!! Rostov's has sooo many fun goodies for purchase including coffee mug galore!! So many cute and diverse styles. They have so many teas and coffees to choose from and it's so affordable compared to some other shops. One of the feature drinks was an Irish cream cold brew - I wanted Irish cream but in a hot drink so they made it latte style and modified it to be less sweet than usual - it was perfect. I highly recommend this coffee shop and will absolutely be back to keep buying quality coffee/tea at a steal price!!

iced oat milk matcha

Never had I ever been to place where they're actually making coffee and tea in the building until I had been here! It was so cool to see the machine behind the coffee making and I loved the homey feeling in the store. The staff were also very quick to take my order! They had a pretty cool menu too, lots of different flavors. When I went I got an iced oatmilk matcha and it was pretty good. I wish the matcha taste was bit stronger because for the most part it kinda of just tasted like oatmilk :/. However, i'm sure their menu has a lot more to offer.

Great coffee, just wish they had more space to sit and enjoy. Service has always been wonderful and we enjoy the little shop area.

Limited seating, barely any accessible outlets, and an atmosphere that made asking about Wi-Fi and a place to sit feel like an inconvenience. A woman nearby, presumably a regular, leaned over and joked, "They don't want us getting any work done here." I chuckled because, well, that explained a lot. After an unnecessarily long wait, I finally received my $16 "Not Your Karen's Pumpkin Spice Latte," which, ironically, was giving very much your average Karen's pumpkin spice latte. I asked for a double shot of espresso, only to learn they offer four shots instead, for reasons still unclear to me. Quite the pricing and caffeine philosophy for such an underwhelming drink. As an Ethiopian, from the birthplace of coffee, I have absolutely no issue paying a premium for quality. Unfortunately, neither the coffee, service, nor overall experience justified the price. This seems more like a place to say you went to a coffee shop than somewhere to actually enjoy good coffee or get anything done. Thankfully, I found another spot in Richmond with reasonable prices and a more welcoming atmosphere. The coffee there was also fairly average, but at least it was priced accordingly. Premium pricing is one thing. A premium experience would be nice to go with it.

That employee also completely ignored me, despite the fact that I was clearly standing there waiting to be helped. I was there to pick up a DoorDash order for someone else, but based on the way I was treated, I can guarantee you I will not be choosing to spend my own money at this establishment. I ultimately had to ask another customer who was standing in line if they knew where to pick up a DoorDash order. The entire experience was incredibly dismissive and unprofessional. A simple acknowledgment or, at the very least, "We'll be with you in a moment" would have made a huge difference.

The ambiance was clean and orderly. Upon entering, you grab a serving tray lined with parchment and some tongs. The items are in a glass enclosed display that you have to open and place your selections on your tray for purchase. I settled on the pistachio cream filled pecan pastry, the almond twist, and strawberry shortcake. The beverage menu was extensive: matcha, flavored teas, cocoa, espresso/coffee, and more. We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,

Instead, I was stopped and loudly reprimanded by a large, intimidating male employee in front of a line full of customers because I had apparently "used the wrong door" and "skipped the line." When I explained that I needed to use the restroom before ordering, I was told I should have used the other entrance -- despite the fact that the door I was directed toward had a clearly posted sign saying "Please Use Other Door." The entire interaction was humiliating and completely unnecessary. No customer, especially a mother carrying a baby, should be publicly shamed over something so minor and confusing. To make matters worse, the bathroom itself was filthy. Even if I had attempted to change my daughter on the floor due to the lack of a changing station, it would have felt unsanitary and unsafe. Businesses love to say they support women and families, but too often mothers are treated like an inconvenience the moment they actually need basic accommodation and decency.

Seating is kind of limited, but luckily we were able to snag a table. I had fun checking out all the different book sections, but the banned book area was definitely the coolest part to me. I thought it was awesome that they give people the chance to explore those books so openly. I only got a cold brew, and it was okay. I wasn't a fan of their ice just cuz the shape just melts quicker and makes your drink watery fast. Aside from that, the service was really great. Everyone was super friendly and happy to help. The location is also really convenient if you're around the VCU Cary st area. Definitely a nice spot to relax for a while.

Upon entering, the books are found along the wall, there are tables and chairs to sit and the coffee is ordered at a counter right in the center of the store. One of the best things I have ever seen is they have a dedicated turning bookcase for BANNED books of Hanover county. It is a lending library. You choose a book, open it and scan the QR code inside and check off the book you picked. Then, you return it when you're done. No time limit on it. That easy. I am so proud that they are supporting these books and making it easy for anyone to have access to them. On this visit, I borrowed Jodi Picoult's book, Nineteen Minutes. I recommend you come visit and support this coffee/book shop in the VCU area. I definitely recommend it and plan to visit often.
