Shaved snow is an amazing frozen dessert that is light, fluffy and creamy! Not icy not heavy like ice cream but the perfect combination of the two!

It was brusque but mostly not overtly rude, perhaps they were just busy getting ready. I ordered the charcuterie board ($28), a chicken salad croissant sandwich ($14), and the Lavender Bees Knees ($8). The drink was very pretty but not super flavorful. The chicken salad was good enough, but I think the croissant alone would have been wonderful. The charcuterie board had a substitutions I was not made aware of upon ordering (no pepper jelly, blanched almonds instead of candied pecans, and a green onion mixed type goat cheese with bacon in it instead of maple bacon goat cheese). They did add little pickles and the presentation was pretty enough, but no flowers like the owner posted photo on here. The meat was pretty thick which could be a positive or negative depending on personal preference, and the meat was decent quality. The fig jam was very good. The waitress who was helping the other tables had brought my food out but didn't check on me at all. I had to go up to the counter again to order a cinnamon roll ($8) and a coffee ($5) which she brought out to me. The coffee was nice and dark (Cameo blend) and incredibly hot. The cinnamon roll was okay, not very much cinnamon flavor but it was delicate and the icing was decent. The interior was pretty and it was a good spot to read a book and spend a morning.

Because we are friends, I wanted to support G's business, and bought a bunch of her artisanal individualized cheesecakes. G's an amazing woman, and I'd have been happy just to provide the support to her business. However, friendship alone doesn't necessarily result in repeat business... The thing is, though, it's not the friendship, but the exceptional quality of the product itself ensured that the next time I am anywhere even remotely near Richmond, I will get more, because those bad boys were perfectly presented...and DEEEEEE-DANG-LISH-US! We got an assortment of flavors - traditional, red velvet, cookies & cream, lemon, key lime, and some others - and to the last, they were all a perfect, 2-3 bite dessert worthy of any palate, and visually deserving of placement in even the most luxurious dining room, both as travel-ready, individually wrapped items when removed for plating. They were a hit with us, and the people we were going to visit, and the hosts of a party we brought them to during that visit. Everyone asked us to bring more next time, as well. The pics from the Geescakes website accurately represent the high level of attention to detail & presentation we experienced with the Geescakes we purchased. Unfortunately for you, review reader, we can only post their look, not their taste - for that, you'll have to get some from Genovia directly via the site, But get them, you should. I've come back more than a few times to try different cupcakes from this bakery, and it has not disappointed! They always have a line when I stop by of people picking up bakery orders or stopping by to grab sweet treats. They have all kinds of pastries and bakery items: cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies, macarons, pop tarts and even packaged drinks. I've gotten a few different cupcakes from them. My favorites have been the peaches and cream, top hat cupcake, pistachio raspberry and strawberry vanilla. Their tiramisu cupcake, margarita cupcake and the key lime cupcakes all actually tasted so much like the namesakes! Their cupcakes are mostly perfectly balanced sweetness: I haven't had anything that was too sweet. Their cakes look so beautifully decorated, but I haven't tried any. They look so good though! Everything in there are so aesthetically pleasing, and if the cupcakes are anything to go by, I'd say flavor wise, the other items would meet expectations! Definitely one of my favorite places in Richmond to get myself a treat and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

For a Saturday night, the atmosphere was lively but not overwhelmingly so. It is a small space so I was very happy that there were still side tables available to sit at & enjoy our food & conversation. The staff were very welcoming, helpful & courteous. & although my husband were probably the most aged patrons in the place, we never felt out of place & I sincerely appreciated that we were able to go there & feel comfortable being a part of the Saturday night community. IYKYK As for the food. The Fried mushrooms were absolutely yummy. They were crunchy on the outside with a light & fluffy texture to the mushrooms inside. We ordered the Chicago Dog & the Sloppy Joe Dog & Black Lodge has the BEST hot dogs I have ever tasted! & believe me I have eaten a lot of hotdogs in my lifetime. Their hotdogs are juicy & full of flavor. My husband is still talking about their hotdogs a day later & how we have to go back again[this was his first visit]. For drinks we had the Jager-Rita, Miller High Life Pony & Green Tea shot. They all were great & complimented our food perfectly. The Green tea shot was so smooth, I definitely recommend trying it If shots are your forte & even if they are not. I am not a shot person but I really enjoyed this particular drink. I definitely recommend Black Lodge if you enjoy a very casual, laid back bar/cafe type of restaurant that has food & drinks that are very upscale but reasonably priced. Also, the atmosphere is very bright & bubbly. A perfect Saturday night hang out type of vibe. So once again I definitely highly recommend giving this establishment a try!

One of the things I instantly noticed on the menu was their vegan breakfast sandwich with a homemade bean-based sausage patty.
