There's something about warm hot food after a swim that just feels so good. I ordered the following, curry shrimp, sweet potato fries, stewed chicken, ackee and salt fish, Mac n cheese, veggie patties, calilou, and sorrel and ginger-pineapple drinks. These plates were enough for lunch and dinner that day. The prices and portions were fair and the food was pretty good. While I like things in the spicier side, I would recommend this spot to anyone who likes Jamaican food. I think I would like to try the jerk chicken in the future. Maybe I ordered on the wrong day, but this escovitch red snapper is gross. $22 dollars down the drain. Everything was straight vinegar. No other flavor, no peppers, seasoning... nothing. Literally soaked the fish is malt vinegar and poured it over my rice. It's not edible at all. I picked through the fish and ate the veggies to at least get full. Thankfully I ordered patties and ate those on the way home. Those were good, but this main dish is going on in the trash. The reviews tell a different story, so again, I may have ordered on a wrong day because I checked the reviews for this and it was all good responses. Ordered the jerk chicken and goat curry entrees that come with rice, bit of mixed veggies (cabbage, carrots, squash) and plantains. The jerk chicken wasn't very spicy and had a peppery sauce the goat curry was my favorite and the flavor was so bomb. I liked the veggies with the entree and the plantains were perfect. Also tried the ginger+pineapple drink, so delicious and the guava drink was good too. I was happy this was a sit down spot, it's very clean, cozy and lots of natural lighting. The bathroom was also very clean. The hostess was very kind and checked up on us and so did the chef! He chatted with us and greeted his other patrons and people who knew him. This place is amazing! Took my grandma for lunch, and it did not disappoint! She had the curry shrimp lunch plate-- the curry was complex and expertly seasoned, the shrimp were firm and cooked to perfection. I had the jerk chicken lunch plate, which was absolutely delicious, tender to the point of falling off the bone, and had a perfect kick of spiciness. Homemade drinks (sorrel, pineapple ginger and guava passionfruit were available when I went) were refreshing. I was offered a taste test of each and ended up selecting the guava passionfruit to have with my meal. I had the curry chicken and my friend had the jerk chicken wrap. Solid jerk chicken dinner entree. The wait time wasnt that bad, maybe 20 minutes, which is Usain Bolt-level timing considering the normal wait times at Jamaican restaurants. The wait staff was attentive, and the shop was pretty clean. The only downside was the pricing and serving size. For $17, I would expect a larger serving. However, the lunch prices seem a bit more reasonable, so I'll definitely check them out then. read more

It was very spicy so if you're not one for spicy food order something else. The chicken was good and moist. The beef patties were also spicy, but they were soooooo delicious. The plantains were on point. Fried perfectly and still sweet without being mushy. The rice and peas were bomb. We also ordered chicken tenders and fries for the kid but I ended up eating a lot of it because it was also good. There are so many must-trys. We had the jackfruit plate- ah-mazing! The Beyond Meat bowl- ah-mazing! And the spinach patty (kind of like an empanada)- ah-mazing! We learned from Karuba that he was inspired to open his own restaurant after coming in #1 at Whole Foods' global employee cooking competition for his patties! I give a spot like this 5 stars with pleasure. Catered my baby girls' gender reveal from the place and they did not disappoint. We got oxtails, rice and peas, chicken wings, beef/veggie patties and plantain. We got enough for everyone but there were few leftovers. People were walking away with to-go plates! They were even gracious enough to help load the food into the car. The food was unique and I really enjoyed the escovitch snapper which was deep fried then covered in a slight sweet and tangy light sauce. Drove past this place everyday on my way to work (when that was a thing) and while it definitely stood out, it never occurred to me that they'd have vegan options. But they do! Win. I got the beyond meat bowl with a side of festival bread and extra plantain. AMAZING!!!! I prefer to cook my own food but it's nice to know I have such a delicious option so close to home for my lazier days.
