I used to go to Tastee Spoon at Perimeter Mall at least once a week because I absolutely loved their food. The customer service was always great, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots. I had no idea they had opened another restaurant, but I'm so glad they did. I can't wait to stop by and try it the next time I'm in town! read more

We honestly got the bare minimum as far as customer service and there was an automatic service charge included for a party of 2. The food was highly season. We had couple up Curry chicken and jerk chicken, rice and peas Mac and cheese, plantains and cornbread. The cornbread is good, Mac and cheese was good and plantains were good. I normally get the crossroads, which is my song that my brother and I listen to in remembrance of my dad bc it's just one of the songs we like, that he used to listen to back in the day when he was alive. So my first time there looking at the menu, i saw CrossRoads, I said it's my dads song AND ITS GOAT?! My fave!! So naturally I had to get order the crossroads, I think i pay around $22-24 after taxes, come with 2 sides. My family is from Trinidad so I'm kind of biased when it comes to curry goat/chicken lol so I'll say it's fine to me when I have a curry goat craving. I was having a rough day and was craving some authentic Caribbean food to comfort my soul. Came across this spot and it have good reviews so I thought I would check it out. Though we were initially greeted when we walked in the door, once we sat at the bar it took quite sometime for anyone to acknowledge our presence. Finally the lady that had initiated greeted us came over and apologized and brought us some waters. Once the bartender came over, he was pleasant and answered any questions. Ordered the Oxtails with Rice and Peas, Cabbage, Plantains, and Macaroni and Cheese to eat. For drinks I had the Rum Punch and the Spiked Sorrel. Though it took a little while, it was worth the wait and I'm not complaining because the food was served fresh and hot, just the way I like it! The oxtails were "fall off the bone tender" and all of the sides had good flavor. I particularly liked that they didn't cook the cabbage to death and it had more of a stri-fry kind of texture. They also brought out some complimentary, warm cornbread which was nice. I enjoyed the Rum Punch but was a bit disappointed by the Spiked Sorrel as it did not have the strong sorrel flavor I was expecting. The ambience was very chill at the time which worked for my mood, but I must say I was very impressed by the level or care and cleanliness demonstrated by this establishment. So I have not had Tastee Spoon since their days at Perimeter Mall. Honestly I didn't even know they moved until recently (give me grace, I don't live in the area lol). We navigated here for dinner before I took the journey back to the southside (I make that sound so far, don't I? Lol). The restaurant is very spacious and has a large bar. I noticed they had a lot of regulars there just based on conversations had surrounding us, which is a good sign to me. They have the "Wata" brand water that I honestly thought you could only get in Jamaica so it was cool to see something like that here. They have a full bar and of course the standard Jamaican alcoholic bevvies if that suits your fancy. I ordered the Couple up combo because i just had to have cabbage, rice and peas and plantain. Everything was very good. I had enough food to last me a few days off of that plate. The cornbread they give you as a starter was very good as well. I will return! read more

I like to give the positives first. The pattys were good. The girl at the counter was nice. Now, for what they got a 3 for. I drove 30 min because this was requested when we were in Alpharetta working for a week. Ordered 6 BEEF pattys, 1 coco bread, and 2 Hawaiian rolls. Paid and waited. Girl let me know they were out of the coco rolls and refunded my money. Then, when I arrived at our hotel, while they tasted great and all, they had very little filling! I came around noon and ordered the belly full: jerk chicken, rice and peas with cabbage, and a red velvet cake. The chicken was the only good thing - it was flavorful and juicy. The cabbage was soggy and tasted like it was warmed up from yesterday, the rice and peas were bland, and the little cake that was $9 was soggy stale and dry should have been tossed and not sold. We went to the Tastee Spoon for this week's team lunch adventure. The food was very, very good. I ordered the French toast with jerk chicken. The French toast pieces tasted like cinnamon rolls without the frosting (yum!) and the jerk was sweet with a little zing on the back end. Piece of advice- get the bone-in. It falls off the bone and has a ton of flavor. I wish I could give half stars ... this one would be a 4.5. The 1/2 star off is only because it's a little slow. Maybe it was just an off night, or since it was close to closing they were ready to wrap things up -- I'm not sure. This was a DoorDash order, but based on the food itself I probably wouldn't order again. I ordered the Escovitch snapper with rice and broccoli, and it was a big disappointment. The fish was fried, but it didn't come with any of the escovitch peppers, onions, or sauce that normally make the dish what it is. It was extremely dry and bland. I ended up having to douse it with hot sauce from my pantry just to get through it. The patties were okay, nothing special but edible. I also had what I believe was the spinach patty, although it honestly looked more like curry chicken filling, so I'm not completely sure. I ordered the Likkle Ochie for my wife and she didn't really care for it either, though she did enjoy the fried okra, which was probably the best thing we had. Finally, I ordered oxtails for my sister-in-law. She said they weren't bad, but she's pregnant and probably just hungry. The portions also looked pretty small. I thoroughly enjoy the spot. They're really good for carryout for me. It's in a shopping center area so it's free parking so you don't have to worry about trying to pay as you dine in or wait for your food. They have a bar, it's a pretty decent size bar. But a lot of the bar spaces used for eating and not for predominantly drinking. But if you want liquor, they have liquor. Depending on what time of the week it is, they have entertainment. I believe that Fridays and Saturdays are times what they have a DJ or something along those lines. You might want to go ahead and check their Instagram page or something like that to figure out exactly when. The service sometimes is a little bit long to wait. And it feels like they only have one person working there. But that's not the end of the world, it's just noticeable to the point to where you would probably wish that you would order it online instead of ordering when you got to the register and waiting for your food. Also, if you sign up for their rewards program, you get money for points toward your orders. If you go enough, I would probably suggest doing this. Now. I will say that I didn't think that I got the same points or any points if I ordered online versus actually using my car at the physical location. So keep that in mind as well. But having a little extra money off or working towards some money off your next order is not a bad thing! Jamaican beef patties - The patties were good. The first time I went I got some chicken and some patties, and I don't know what they gave the sauce for, I'm guessing the chicken, but I'd use that sauce on the patties and they kind of set them off. But they don't have as much meat as I would like them to, but they were still very well cooked and flaky and pastry crust. But again the sauce took it to another level LOL. Jerk chicken wings - Now the wings, really really good wings. You get a lot of wings in there tender and fall off the bone. They are splashed with that sauce, the sauce is really good, and I have zero complaints about them. Cabbage - The cabbages well seasoned and pretty tender. There's usually a go-to if I want to get a vegetable from there. It's super solid and they give you a nice amount. Mac and cheese - The mac and cheese was all right. Probably would not rush for it, but I would eat it again. I'll probably try a couple more other size before I get back to that. It had the layer of cheese on top, but it was basically like a sheet of cheese, so when you tried to put your fork into it, the entire sheet would fold in. So once you get past that, the macaroni and cheese is actually pretty okay. Not super flavorful but as a cheat code, the jerk sauce goes well with that too LOL! If you make some jerk macaroni and cheese, I would be there front and center for it. But as it is right now, the marker of cheese is pretty okay. It does have some creaminess to it so I'm not trying to downplay it at all, it is pretty good. French fries - The fries were pretty basic. They was cooked very well and has some seasoning to them as well. Again, have to drive this plate home, that jerk sauce goes well on these fries too! Jerk sauce - I feel like since I've already hinted at it, I need to say that the jerk sauce should be its own review point and the jerk salsa is really good. I bought a bottle of it. It could go on a whole lot of stuff! It is sweet and tangy, spicy and savory all at the same time! Love it. Baked wings - The wings are pretty good. They were heavily sauced and packed with flavor. They were super tender and had a really nice size as well. I've actually gone back to get them more than once lol. Broccoli and cheese casserole - The casserole was actually pretty straight. I really wasn't sure what they were going to give me but it was pretty good. It really was a very small size so I wish it would have been bigger, but that could be because it was so good or it could have been just because I wanted more LOL! Shrimp with peppers - The shrimp of peppers weren't what I thought. They were pretty good and had a lot of heat to them but it was just basically shrimp and peppers in a broth or soup. The total experience was ok. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The staff was great. Very helpful and polite. Great staff experience. The food ... we had ackee and salt fish with fried dumplings, bammies and callaloo. The taste of it all was good. The ackee and callaloo dishes however were swamped with onions and I am not exaggerating. We have never seen so much onions in any dishes we've ever had. Tastee Spoon, it's too much. And there are no other veggies in the Ackee and Salt Fish. Just an overly abundant amount of onions to apparently pad the contents of the dishes. I have ordered Tastee Spoon via DoorDash at least 5-6 times in the past six weeks while working from home. I haven't ate Tastee Spoon in at least 4-5 years when they were inside Perimeter mall. I tried several times but they consistently dropped the ball. Needless to say, I was a little hesitant to order from the Ashford Dunwoody location. But I have been pleasantly surprised and satisfied with each DoorDash order. Let's start with each time... my food was fresh and HOT!!! I live at least 13-15 minutes away so that says a lot! They have a 50% off deal daily on DoorDash so I often get the Belly Full plate. It's very filling. Those Tastee wings are yum yum! My cabbage was good! And the mac n cheese is a winner!!! I'm a mac n cheese snob so the fact that they're winning is a big deal coming from me!!! They also have $12 deals which varies from Curry Chicken, Brown Stew and Jerk Chicken meals. Again... very filling The rice and peas is good But I have had better at other Caribbean restaurants. The Jerk Salmon pasta is a No for me. The salmon is just laid on top.. not cut up. Just a whole piece on top of the pasta. I think they use a different kind of rice but I could be wrong. Nonetheless I put that Tastee sauce on it and dig in. They serve Jamaican food favorites such a curry chicken, ox tail, Jamaican beef patty, curry goat, snapper, rice and peas, sweet plantains, jerk shrimp, and salmon. hey also have some savory signature cocktails to wash your food down. The staff there was very friendly and courteous. I ended up ordering The Jerk Chicken with a side of cabbage and sweet plantains. They bring you a bottle of water and a piece of their corn bread with your meal. It took about 10 minutes for my meal to be ready. The chicken was exquisite, so delicious. There is a bottle of jerk sauce on each table if you are looking for more. The chicken was tasty and flavorful, with a little kick. The cabbage was good, but different than I am use to. Where do I start? Came here with my cousin who is also an extreme foodie in atlanta. First off, our server was wonderful! Blanking on his name but so pleasant and patient. The food was. So. So. Good. We ordered a lot so bare with me: the oxtail queso dip is an absolute MUST TRY! Like don't walk, run to get it. I'm still eating some leftovers two days later it's that good. The macaroni was very cheesy and seasoned well. The cabbage was unevenly cooked (some crunchy some soft pieces) but even with the inconsistency of the cook was still pretty good. They offer a piece of cornbread with the meal and it was so good! Thinking about it as I am writing this review is making me want another piece. Overall I would come back. Was excited to eat here but was quickly disappointed. Orders were Oxtails plate and the jerk chicken plate. For the price of the food the portions are good. However, the Oxtails were dry and tasted like they had been sitting out all day. They were not tender and that is a product of not cooking them properly. That was very disappointing. They also had a LOT of fat left on them that could have easily been trimmed off. This was on a weeknight and the restaurant clearly does a very large to-go business. The rice and peas were decent as were the vegetables. We also ordered Patties which were fine as well. To is food was just so-so. It is not a price issue it's a quality of food issue. Those oxtails were sub-par and lacking. This business should take more time with making sure their food is high quality instead of just getting by. Ok. My mother and I have been here twice and let me tell you, it's beyond worth it! The food is AMAZING! The service and staff are friendly. There's a slight wait in between drinks and being checked on since the wait staff is limited but the service we did receive was great. There was a robot that brought us water, silverware, and even our food. The price is decent considering oxtails here in Atlanta are typically higher than $27, and a meat and two sides here are $15-$20, which is great. The temperature of the food, the portion size is even greater and shocking! You will DEFINITELY get a hefty plate and take some leftovers home! The ambiance is really nice and chill. Great music, there are TVs to watch games, a robust bar (which I can't explore but once I can, I will), and even the bathrooms are clean, just like the seating areas. The food here is amazing, and I was little bothered that they were not serving brunch today but it's cool. The cornbread was amazing. It had that perfect crisp to it. The shrimp and grits are so good and I recommend adding dashes of the jerk sauce on the table to it. The Mac and cheese is rich, creamy, and substantial. Stumbled upon this gem while I was Dunwoody for a conference and recommended it to all of my coworkers.
