    Pelua and Perico

Arepa Grill is a Venezuelan eatery known for their arepas! This restaurant also sells other food such as burgers and steaks. It is located on Buford Highway, so it is nearby a lot of food spots. The inside is pretty small with several tables set up for seating. I found the service to be quick and efficient. We got the Pelua and Perico arepas! The Perico arepa was essentially a breakfast arepa with scrambled eggs, onions, and peppers. I asked for them to add gouda cheese and it really elevated the flavor. I thought the fillings were a bit plain without the gouda cheese. My boyfriend enjoyed the Pelua arepa, but did say the beef was a bit chewy. We were also given a container with various sauces and my personal favorite was the avocado crema which helped add so much more flavor to the arepas. I definitely recommend using any of their sauces (all were good). I think Arepa Grill is a great bang for your buck and I would rate it a 4.5/5 stars if I could. The arepas were filled to the brim with toppings and had a crispy yet soft dough for a fair price in this economy!

Went on a Sunday and it was packed, which says a lot about its popularity -- but the space is really small. You're basically elbow-to-elbow with folks who are already eating, which isn't ideal if you like breathing room. That said, they have ample parking, which is rare for Buford Hwy! We ordered the Venezuelan Sampler ($13.13) and the Arepa Tour ($13.13) -- both came with a ton of food. The sampler had 4 fried mini arepitas, 2 mini empanadas, 2 tostones, and 2 tequeños with cream and cheese. The Arepa Tour included 4 mini arepas with different fillings that you can choose: Catira (shredded chicken and cheese) Reina Pepiada (chicken, avocado, and mayo salad) Pabellón (shredded beef, black beans, plantains, and cheese) La Rumbera (shredded pork and cheese) We also grabbed: 1 chicha (a sweet, creamy rice drink similar to horchata) 2 pastelitos de carne (fried pastries filled with seasoned ground beef) 1 pastelito de papa con queso (fried pastry filled with mashed potatoes and cheese) Even with tip, we were out the door for under $50 -- not bad at all! My fiancée also got some soup of the day that was really rich and brothy. Some of the items were just okay, but a few were really great -- definitely some highlights worth trying again. Service-wise, the staff was super kind, but the language barrier did make ordering a bit tricky. Luckily, some friendly patrons helped translate. Overall, a cool spot with solid food, just needs a bigger space to really enjoy the experience. If you go, bring a little patience and maybe brush up on a few Spanish food terms -- it'll go a long way.

I've ate here a few times already and love this place! The workers here are always nice and willing to help if you are not sure what to order. I ordered the arepa tour and the Venezuelan hot dogs. All of the arepas were flavorful and tasted good! The Venezuelan hot dogs come with so much on them and makes me not want to eat a regular American hot dog again. The hot dog has a Cole slaw, corn, potato sticks, and cheese. It also has a sauce on it as well. Since they were loaded with cheese, I just used some of the cheese to eat with the fries, which was perfect. Also, note that the late night menu is more limited and more expensive than their regular menu! I was a little shocked with the price difference. For example, regular menu has 2 hot dogs for $7.99 and night menu has one hot dog for $5.50. There's a good amount of seating here as well and a great place to go with your friends to talk and eat.

First time and I'm hooked! Recommended. Simple, nothing fancy, but who needs fancy when the food is this good? The ladies were super friendly and took the time to explain the entire menu. I decided to go with cachapa de pabellón and it totally delivered.

I've been to Arepa Grill a few times and tried both the Pabellón and the Patacón--both were delicious! The Pabellón is a comfort classic: tender shredded beef, sweet plantains, black beans, and rice, all packed with flavor. The Patacón was a crispy, savory surprise--perfect if you want something a little indulgent and different. The vibe is laid-back and clean, with a simple setup that keeps the focus on the food. Service is friendly, portions are generous, and everything tastes fresh. It's a great spot whether you're grabbing a quick bite or introducing someone to Venezuelan food for the first time.

My mother grew up in Venezuela and is VERY particular about her arepas. In fact, she will almost never buy an arepa from a restaurant because "they just aren't as good as when we make them". Not only does my mother enjoy the arepas from Arepa Grill, she will go out of her way to come and get the food here. It seems like they are doing something right here! This small Venezuelan eatery specializes in arepas, but serves up a lot more than that! They do burgers, soups and mixed grills, so there is a ton of variety. Whenever I visit, I always get the arepas. They are essentially corn cakes that can be filled with whatever you can think of! For me, I really enjoy an arepa that's filled to the brim with meat and cheese, and Arepa Grill delivers on that. Their arepa tour gives you an opportunity to try many different fillings. I think their Arepa Pabellon (shredded beef) is their best arepa. The meat is succulent and tender and packed with flavor. The black beans and plantain and cheese are a wonderful combo. The arepa itself isn't too starchy and fried to perfection. It's a great one. My mom's favorite is the Perico (scrambled eggs). It's what she grew up with, and hits home for her. Outside of their arepas, Arepa Grill makes some delicious empandas, and their cachapas are worth trying as well! A cachapa is a sweet corn pancake that is filled with cheese. They make traditional Venezuelan drinks that are fresh and tasty. Don't forget to use their sauces, those add a wonderful kick to your meal. I'm not longer living in Atlanta, but when I return with my family I'm sure we will end up back at Arepa Grill. Their food is delicious and the atmosphere of the restaurant is lively and makes you want to come back. If you're close by, give it a try! My mother would certainly recommend that you do so!

    Mini cheese arepas ?

Small shop very clean. Try the Patacon. It's better than the arepa if you don't want something heavy. It's kind of like a sandwitch except instead of bread it's between two fried flattened pieces of sweet plantains. Also you have to ask for the sweet ones or the non sweet plantains. Skip the mini arepas with cheese. It's just fried dough balls with crema and shredded cheese. It's like a deconstructed arepa kit. Try the Martin drink it's a lightly carbonated sugary drink. Reminds me of the flavor of honey. They have ample parking and a great assortment of sauces. It's in a convenient area next to alot of other shops

Unbeatable prices for yummy food!! This place was pretty busy when I came for Friday dinner and I can see why. This is a very unassuming place for what appears to be great Venezuelan food. I got the Arepa Pabellón and it was fantastic! I should've taken pictures of the menu, but majority of the arepas are under $10 and are big enough to fill me up. I love that they provide you with a bunch of different sauces to try. This place has more hole in the wall vibes with its limited service, but I'd gladly come back here any day and try more things. Compared to another popular arepa place in town, I'd MUCH rather come here because of the prices. Inside seating is limited! Most tables are 2-4 seaters so not a place for a big group.

    Sheela K.

Not too bad! Reina Pepiada: this is the taco looking things in the pic, it's chicken salad and avocados. It was okay yet had a linger of a fishy type taste. This is usually when oil has been repeatedly used to fry meat again and again - $7.99 - 2/5 Small and Medium grilled chicken burgers: french fries, Mayo, ketchup, mustard on the sandwich HOWEVER! I greatly advise to ask all sauces on the side because it was overflowing and overpowered by loads of mustard and ketchup where it was dripping all over :( - $6.99-$9.99 - 3/5 The sauces at the table are delicious I enjoyed them! The place was cool to visit but I think it satisfied my curiosity for time being! :)

This fast casual restaurant is right off the main road and easy to get to. The shop has some cool decorations inside so don't be fooled by the outside. The food took a little while to make but was worth the wait. The arepas come in a few different varieties including meat and veggie options. I ordered one plus 2 cheese empanadas and it was filling. If you haven't ever had an Arepa, this is the place to try it!

    Fran Kristine R.

I enjoyed this place. I ordered 3 empanadas one of each, beef, chicken and cheese. I also got an arepa with the chicken and Gouda cheese. At first I thought it wasn't going to be good because the cheese wasn't melted but once you start eating the arepa the cheese begins to melt and it's so flavorful. It's a small restaurant and can get crowded but the food is delish! Theres also tons of parking and the service was quick even with them being busy.

While my review itself is a bit late, I do think about this place often because of how good the food was. I haven't had pepitos before, but this made an amazing introduction for me! From the outside, it looked like the rest of the plaza and didn't stand out much. Stepping in, it was surprisingly pretty cool and a bit modern with the lighting and walls. It was clean too. I would recommend getting a pepitos over the burger, though both are great. It's just easier to put away the rest for later because of how filling eating just half is. The fries were crispy and good for trying out all the sauces. And the sauces? Love the variety. The bacon sauce truly tastes like bacon and has bits of it in it. Corn is probably made with sweet corn, and it was creamy. Love the garlic. The honey mustard was good too. Cheese confuses me. It wasn't a cheese flavor I am more familiar with, and it wasn't like the cheese used in the meal. I didn't dislike it, but I also did mix sauces together, and I liked it better once mixed with something else. Garlic still is just great overall though. We ended with churros, which were pretty good. They drizzle lots of chocolate, caramel, and condensed milk over them, and while I felt guilty after eating so much food, I loved every moment. They give quite a bit, and we couldn't finish them all. Great dessert for sharing, and another draw to this place if you don't want a full meal, though I highly recommend getting food as well.
