Y'all have no clue how excited I was to see this place open. I'm always looking for good Jamaican food - beef patties, chicken patties, oxtails. Karuba's is fresh, flavorful, and less oily than a lot of other joints I've been to in the area. I LOVE beef patties but Karuba's CHICKEN patties are so off the hook packed with spices that he really won me over with them. It's got some heat and that flavor will linger with you for quite some time. Now the oxtails...my mistake the first time was eating the chicken patty before the oxtail. The spiciness of the patty definitely overpowered the flavor of the oxtail. But when I ate the oxtail first...man...so savory and rich. I could eat the gravy like soup. I have also had the ackee and saltfish - another favorite! It's got good heat and flavor. I tried to stretch that meal out for a couple days cuz I didn't want it to end. I haven't made my way completely through the menu but I'm gonna get there. Don't sleep on this place y'all. Also had chicken and beef patties to start with a side of Jerk sauce which tasted homemade and was freakin OF THE HOOK. Not to mention they have TING! In case you dont know, Ting is sort of a carbonated grapefruit drink kinda like a squirt but way better. I believe its bottled in Jamaica. The food was so good that I drove there (which is decently far from my home) the next day to get the Escoviche fish. O...M....G... that dish is amazing. Today was a good day. Not only did they happily bring it over too me from across the street, but the portion and flavor was impeccable! Lol I didn't get to take a picture cause of how yummy it was. But i got the coconut shrimp and it came with amazing sweet potatoes fried that were perfectly seasoned and so fresh. The shrimp was perfect, i don't even like coconut shrimp but this one will get you to love it. It was a great size and was only $10.35 after tax... so not bad. You get six shrimp too. My wife and I used to run (not walk) to eat the chef's food when he had a cart at the Whole Foods in Playa Vista. If you dragged your feet he'd be all out every day. Then he informed us he was opening a spot in Inglewood (a few blocks from our home) we were ecstatic! First time trying Jamaican food, and it was really good. I had the Yardy bowl with jerk chicken. It came with rice, beans, plantains, corn, and bits of strawberry. I didn't think that the savory flavors will go with the fruits in the bowl, but actually the plantain and strawberry went well with everything else in the bowl. Rice and peas was okay no taste of coconut milk, jerk chicken tasted oven bake not jerked on a jerk pan, but nevertheless it was good. Sautéed vegetables was great not suggy .Oxtail did not taste or look like oxtail, not sure what it was but it was definitely not OXTAIL. Fish tea was seasoned and you could actually taste the fish it was great, a bit overkill with the tiny chopped peppers but overall it was fantastic. Went to this establishment based on my mothers suggestion which she received from someone on the NextDoor app, I would have been ok with a hotdog combo from Inglewood Costco, but she insisted ... enjoying Jamaican cuisine like I do I wasn't about to argue. The pricing for the fully packed container is fair, the vegetables are delicious, as are the rice and beans and the oxtails!!!!!! Devine! I love Jamaican food and Coley's (when it was in Inglewood back in the day) was one of our family's favorite restaurants when I was growing up. Karuba has taken its place. My husband is vegetarian and SUPER picky so I love that they have options for him. He always gets the jackfruit plate.
