The restaurant was very crowded and I was never greeted by the one waitress that I think is also the owner. Finally I asked a young man who seemed to be a family member who was assisting on the floor if I could order. Another young person came out to take my order. Neither one was friendly nor did the young girl know details of my order. Yikes, she said hardly anyone ordered it and did not know if rice came with it. The waitress/owner was very grim faced and totally ignored me. Since my phone ran out of juice, I went out to my car to retrieve a book. She finally rather rudely asked me from a distance if I wanted to order the tofu or not .crude.. She then came over again two more times to ask about the order and to let me know it would be 5 min...which it was not All in all, it was 1/2 for one dish. I told the young girl that she should have told me it woujd be 30 minutes for my order. She, along with the young man were clueless. Not able to get that concept. There are so many Asian restaurants from Carson City south to Gardnerville that are more comfortable that also provide good to even excellent food that will be getting my future business I had been going here for about 1 year in Feb 25 to 26. The staff was entirely different. They were friendly, smiled and knowledgeable. I revisited 1 tine in the summer but then, too it was a different staff. It was tofu and cauliflower. The tofu chunks were enormous and they were nicely seared on all sides. The sauce was flavorful and the veggies including cabbage were perfectly cooked. Well I may not have recognized the first time I came in is that their noodles appear to be udon! they were not open as I write this review so I couldn't call them but I did take a picture and give it to My BFF, "gemini" the trustee AI from Google: Gemini says: "1. Shanghai Style Thick Noodles (Cu Mian) This is the most likely culprit. In many Chinese "hot table" or buffet settings, they use a thick, wheat-based noodle called Cu Mian (literally "thick noodles"). * The Look: They are cylindrical and chewy, very similar to Udon. * The Difference: They are often a bit more "al dente" or dense compared to the bouncy, slippery texture of Japanese Udon. * Terminology: Even though they are thick, restaurants often label them "Chow Mein" simply because that's the term customers recognize for any fried noodle dish. 2. Lo Mein Noodles While most people associate Lo Mein with a medium-thickness flat noodle, some regional variations use a significantly thicker, rounder version. Atmosphere - Small local business, sit down is now reopened. Open 6 days a week from 6am to 9pm; closed Sunday. Yelp and their menu hours differ a little. So call to confirm... Plenty of parking. Service - Good, we have only ever done take-out here. They seem to have a very good take-out business, but I am patient. Price - As you can see from my 1-5 year old menu pictures, prices have gone up from $10 to $16 for my combo chow mein meal. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location for 14+ years. There were seven of us, three children, and the restaurant was busy, so we expected a wait. My friend and I, both in our late 40s, decided to grab cocktails at the bar while our dates stayed with the kids. We asked the hostess where we could go, and she specifically directed us to another bar toward the back because it was less busy. We followed her directions. As we walked toward the other bar, a female employee with dark hair, an arm sleeve tattoo and a sushi roll in her hand stopped my friend and asked, "Where are you going?" He explained we were going to the other bar. She then asked, "Did someone tell you to go to that bar?" He replied, "Yes." That was absolutely true. The front staff had just directed us there. The interaction was odd enough that we wondered why she seemed concerned about two customers simply going to a bar we had been told to use. We eventually found the second bar in a small, dimly lit room behind a sliding door. We were talking about the strange interaction when that same woman walked in and turned out to be one of the bartenders. My friend said, "Hey, glad to see you again." She clearly didn't seem amused. We ordered two Old Fashioneds for ourselves and cocktails for our dates. She asked, "So you guys just want lemon drops or Old Fashioneds?" We explained the Old Fashioneds were for us and the lemon drops were for our dates. She then told us she couldn't make the drinks for our dates because California law required her to see IDs for everyone. Fine. We ordered only the Old Fashioneds and planned to have our dates order their own drinks. The strange part? After telling us she needed IDs, she never carded either one of us. She made the Old Fashioneds without asking what bourbon we preferred. After what seemed like a very long preparation, she handed them to us. She asked my friend, "What do you think?" He replied, "It's OK." She responded, "It's just OK?" He again said, "It's OK." She appeared frustrated and said, "Well, people compliment this drink all the time, but if you want me to make another, I will." I tried mine and agreed. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't particularly impressive either. The hot, charred orange wheel and sugar were not what I would consider ideal for an Old Fashioned. We got our bill and returned to our dates. Later, our dates went to the bar themselves. Their experience was completely different. They said the same bartender was friendly and welcoming and made them excellent drinks. She even made two new Old Fashioneds for us on the house. To her credit, the second drinks were considerably better -- properly prepared with an orange peel twist and a much better balance of sweetness and bourbon. We were told they were made with "top shelf" bourbon. We also learned that the bartender was apparently the assistant manager. Our table server later mentioned that this wasn't the first time she'd heard complaints about that particular manager's service and attitude. I want to be fair: our table server was excellent, and the food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Prices are on the higher side and the dishes came out somewhat randomly, but the food itself was very good. I don't have a problem with the restaurant's style, tattoos, piercings, or atmosphere. That's simply their vibe. What bothered me was being treated as though we shouldn't be going to an area we had specifically been directed to by the hostess, followed by an extremely uncomfortable interaction with the bartender. I've had drinks in bars all over the world, and I've rarely experienced a bartender who made me feel so unwelcome when we had done absolutely nothing wrong. We were simply two middle-aged guys, dressed nicely, trying to grab drinks for ourselves and our dates while waiting for our table. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. Maybe she was having a bad night. I honestly don't know. But being questioned with "Did someone tell you to go to that bar?", then told IDs were required for everyone, only to have neither of us actually carded, left us scratching our heads. When the person creating that experience is an assistant manager, that's particularly concerning. Good food. Great table service. But an incredibly strange and uncomfortable experience with the assistant manager that overshadowed what otherwise could have been a very enjoyable evening. P.S. The assistant manager/bartender made us feel as if she thought we might be officers undercover or that we had some reason to be there other than simply having drinks. I am a 24-year Air Force retiree, and my buddy is a highly decorated Marine retiree with a Purple Heart.
