I used their ATM inside and the machine tells you its going to charge you $2.00 - well it charged me that, but days later I checked my bank account and I was charged an additional $2.00 and then another transaction of $2.00 so a total of $6.00 they took with regards to the ATM transaction. Then when I called to speak to the Owner I was told that he only comes in at 3, I called at 3 and was told to call after 6, I called after 6 and was told he had left. I am still unable to pin the manager down and ask him whats going on - why does the ATM charge me $6.00 when the machine tells you the cost of using it is only $2.00. This is a scam .....and I plan on reporting them to the BBB. read more

This place sucks. Pino landia es mejor. Yamba Looks really dirty. My friend took me here and it wasnt super busy but there was a group of 5 people in front of us. The lady dont direct customer traffic and theres no signs of where the line starts. The women working the night shift were really rude. They skip us and instead of apologizing they rather argue. You never disrespect a customer. I wanted to try some Nicaragua food. But i guess Nicaraguans are not nice people. They didnt even look happy to see us and much less happy to be working there. What seems like an old saloon covered head to toe in wooden panels and folklore detail is actually a pretty relevant diner and local watering hole for the western region of the Calle ocho strip. The parking is limited but a few spots are reserved in the front. Carne asada is probably their best dish which of course should be accompanied with their mouthwatering fried cheese. Upon entering, it's like a wooden maze to get to the bar area; but I like it. Nicaraguan cuisine is hearty and filling so leave the diet for next week. Their meat is nicely seasoned with the perfect ratio of salt and spices to really bring out the best flavors in their dishes. The gallo pinto rice which is their staple starch was a bit on the dry side but I survived. They do have tables and an indoor area but it just seems like a huge inconvenience to actually sit down and eat there. I say this because it's in the hood and they have about 8 parking spaces in a really tight lot with 2-3 more spaces on the SW Flagler terrace (west bound) side. Both roads are 1 way. Keep your eyes peeled for the giant rooster on your left or the LED sign if coming from the west, that's when you know you're there. My brother lives close to here so I've swung by a few times for quick bites with him. We both love the food. It's served cafeteria style where you pick what you want from behind the glass and it's served to you in an enclosed styrofoam go-plate. The portions have always been generous. Meals always filling. Price ranges from $6-$11 for a good meal. They have these fried chunks of cheese, "queso frito" (keh-so free-toh) in Spanish, you NEED to get one with your meal. It's a heart attack at first bite but damn it's so worth it. You can counter this with their "salad". The salad comes in a clear bag and looks off-putting but I think it's good, even without added dressing. Whatever else you decide to get from behind the glass, that's on you. I haven't been disappointed yet but I'm sure something's got to be gross... Maybe you'll find it. Let me know if you do so I can avoid it too lol. read more

I had a bad experience there, so I will recommend that place to no body; especially, black folks. One night, I was in the neighborhood, however, I was on my way to south beach to one of those places I have already tried many times. I decided to stop by Yambo Restaurant to get a fried fish, which was the only thing in the menu I could have got, given that I am a pescatarian! I bought two nicaraguayens beers, trying to get closed to the culture even more... I asked one guy that look like he was a manager or a floater of some sort... if I could go eat inside, he said no. I noticed most of the people were eating outside, so I thought because it was late we were not allowed to eat inside. Then, I notice many people going inside to eat and I asked a girl that ate outside, why didn't she eat inside. She responded because she didn't want to eat inside. I investigated even more by asking the gentleman that took my other, if I could eat my food inside, he spoke English, and he told me,YES and told me to go seat inside he will bring me the food. Then, that nonspeaking English sucker that told I couldn't eat inside come yo tell that I have to eat outside... so I took the food to go and give it to an homeless guy that asked me for money. He told me the food was salty when I came back from the seven eleven where I saw him. So I will never know how this restaurant's food taste, because I do not deal with racism, discrimination, or any kind of prejudices. Nicaraguayen people are know to be great people, maybe I am wrong to sea them as such! It was a great deception or me from that nicaraguayen place. Great history had enfolded in this place. Another part of the restaurant that is great is that it is hidden. The location takes you away from Miami for a second and you feel as 3you are in another country. Ordered the oxtail stew meal, carne asada meal, drinks, and random fried stuff. The carne asada and oxtail were pretty tender, flavorful. I recommend staying away from the fried stuff. I'm going to say this once. I am absolutely in love with what Yambo is, has been, and forever shall be. This restaurant is a magnificent little slice of Nicaragua right in the middle of Little Havana and I wouldn't have it any other way. The food is absolutely delicious, piled on as if you are about to go on a fast, and almost unrealistically inexpensive. How inexpensive you might ask? I specifically remember paying a ~$15 bill for 3 beers and a plate of food that nearly caused me to go into a hibernation like coma like a bear. The plate had rice and peas, beans, a huge block of fried cheese (why? I don't know, but I want it every day now) and a huge hunk of marinated flank steak. The restaurant while old and eclectic is immaculately clean. The staff seems to be always cleaning if they are not doing anything; I have worked in restaurants, that is one of the ideal goals of any restaurant...cleanliness. Two individuals behind me asked what is going on and why she hasn't served me. I don't know if the person working tonight was having a bad night or if she just was extremely racist. I came here with a lack of preconceptions and even less awareness of where I was. Yep. I was here in the middle of the night after a long evening of [redacted to protect the innocent... and Joseluis]. Needing food in my belly of an ethnic variety, I made my way from the south to Little Havana rather than to South Beach. I didn't know what I was in for but I was game to try something... and I was starving... and I didn't have much money on me. All three boxes, consider yourselves checked. When you walk into Yambo, be prepared to experience something out of a Central American nightmare. There are random figurines & totems strewn about. There are shady characters populating all of the outside seating and practicing their best mean mugs. Parking is something you need to do blocks away because all of the nearby parking has been taken up by cars of varying driveability being 'parked' any which way (and, usually, not in any sort of lines). The security looks more like your doom than your salvation. And the ladies behind the counter... well, they're not winning any congeniality awards. The inside is dark, winding and filled with things that go bump in the night (86 that need to go potty; save it for home). So... four stars? Yes. Read with me if you want to live (or, you know, just survive the experience). 1.) Come with someone who speaks fluent Spanish (that stuff you get by with on the Beach and in the Gables ain't gonna help you here); 2.) Nod your head; 3.) Don't make eye contact with any other patrons; 4.) Attempt to order beans, rice, queso frito, pollo frito, and an empanada; 5.) Even if this is not what you get, smile, say 'gracias' and give the ladies behind the counter as much money as they want; 6.) Cash, sucka!; 7.) Start eating... and get happy feet but do not start dancing. Keep it inside and pledge to dance as soon as you are back on the beach; 8.) Don't eat the entire plate in one setting. Because to do so: a.) is foolish (that's a lot of food) and b.) you will want to save some for the next day... especially the pollo frito y queso frito. Follow the rules and all will be well.
