Being born and raised in Miami, I grew up around Nicaraguan food. I've tried many in my life, none as good as La Gata. Over the years, I've gotten to know the family that owns and runs this restaurant and they are incredibly nice. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. For South American standards it's pretty clean and food is tasty and not too greasy,it's Nicaraguan and family owned and operated,most importantly I would like to highlight the honesty of the owner,I think the son made an error and overcharged me for my take out,he promptly called me back and gave me the difference. As part of our Viernes Culturales, my coworkers and I voted for Uruguayan Friday. This was my first time and had no idea what what to expect. Nelson found this little hole-in-the-wall on W. Flagler St on the edge of Little Havana, Patio D La Morocha, so we were all in to check it out. We sat down and were treated like royalty, since we were the only the second table in the restaurant. (From what I understand this place gets kickin' on Fridays with a live Salsa band, lunch not so much.) I ordered breaded steak with fried eggs that came out with a full plate of fries. I had no idea what I was in for and was about to order a salad, but luckily, the waitress gave me a look like I was crazy. Then informed me with her hands that my dish was going to be enormous. She wasn't kidding. Several of my buddies shared the meat platters (paradilla) and I was lucky enough to get to try some. They were outstanding. Beef, chicken, pork and chicken. Tender, juicy and smokey. There's a wood fired grill up in the front of the restaurant and you can taste the wood flavors in the meat. Also, the blood sausage was amazing. After we ate an insane amount of food... Our waitress brought out a gratis round of these sweet treats for the table. I'm not sure what was in it. Meringue? Cream? Crunchy sweet wafers? Let's be honest. Little Havana is no longer the Cuban neighborhood. The influx of other Latin immigrants has ushered in more Central and South Americans to add their flavors and traditions in the über Hispanic Miami melting pot. This part of town was an area that had more Cuban cafeterias than anything else; one could easily engage in a Cuban bread loaf and colada sword fight at any given moment..worse thing that could of happened is someone's madrina would judge you with a disapproving staredown and a matching chihuahua suffocating under her gargantuan breasts. ..ok. Glad you got the picture. Things have gotten a little sketch-town round these parts. Not to worry, the Uruguayans have arrived with Jordi and a hell of a Parillero to entice us with sappy Latin ballads and a sensational wood fire grilled precursor to gout. So put away your weapons, you can defend yourself with a left over sausage from the monstrosity of a mixed parillada for 1 that could easily feed a gang of MS13 thuggish ruggish brats. And Christ Allmighty on a cracker it's enjoyable in every way-ESPECIALLY with an $18 bottle (or 3) of house wine. Yes, yes, yes Morocha we adore you. Everything served is dare I say divine when you can make anyone jump out of their seats and dance awkwardly on stage with the disco lights and their resident Uruguayans egging you on to continue stuffing your face and acting a fool. By the way, the staff is laid back but oh so welcoming...and the blonde waitress with the pixie cut is a sensational dancer that doesn't miss a beat. Maybe I'll include photographic evidence, or you could simply make your way over on a Friday night with the family and experience it for yourself. Granted, their meats are grilled by a master and their house made pastas are so homey and fresh tasting you want to kiss the cook. Don't expect fancy, quiet or frou frou plating. This is like going to someone's house party and picking on grilled cow innards and drinking table wine but with strangers in a convivial spirit. Vegetarians can also look forward to friendly options like their veggies or melty provoleta cheese in a cast iron pot. Get it with tomatoes on top. The guy that sings has a knack for belting out ballad after ballad; he loves interacting with the crowd. He's great! Watchout for the regular with hungry eyes, when her flirty gaze zeroes in on your man... She's out to try and chachacha her way over- you can't get mad though it's all in good fun and she has great taste, my boyfriend is pretty sexy. Perhaps she'll let you dance with her silver fox?.. So the verdict is a definite yes. Just like spotting a rare exotic flower in a grimy polluted alley in some poverty stricken slum, this restaurant/ chuck e cheese for adults is a flaw free gem. Take a cab, Lyft or über though because the police station is close by and you could easily unleash the wino having a grande ole time. Just the smell of their roaring grill consuming all that aromatic wood is enough to get the carnivore in anyone drooling and speaking in tongues...by the way the tongue a la vinagrette is so simple and delish. I had an amazing dinner here with a group of friends. Service was fantastic and the food delicious. A parrilla for 2 fed a group of 6 adults. We added 2 sides apart from the 2 it comes with, 2 bottles of wine and had food leftovers. I'm from Queens NY and have visited several Uruguayan restaurants, this one is my new favorite. The fact that its not a ritzy overpriced average food restaurant makes it even better than 5 stars in my opinion. Had dinner here with my wife and kid. It's in an obscure corner of a building in little Havana. The parrillada was great and well priced. They even adjusted some of the meat pieces at our request. The wines are good and nicely priced, as well. Feel free to buy a bottle for dinner. The service is just like being at a friends house. Will be back soon. read more

A friend and I got to experience this hole in the wall restaurant after I found it on Yelp. Service was informal, but average. The server answered our questions about menu items and suggested we get the parrilla for one. Boy, was she right! It was a lot of food, even for two people. I had plenty of leftovers to take home, which I later shared with two other people. Food was good, and the price was great for so much food. I liked being able to eat on wooden tablets rather than a dish (we were offered both options). It was comfort food in a comfortable manner. We had to ask them to exchange an orange juice we ordered. This is a really casual place, food is good, but the place doesn't look clean at all and the smell is like a weird old place smell. We go in with my 3 years old daughter on a Tuesday for dinner and they brought her a pretty little pink plate that was sweet. We had a Parrilla I don't remember the name, but is the second in the menu, that was good, price is fine and it was enough for my meat love boyfriend my 3 years old who ate all the chicken and me. This is my go to place when I'm craving a juicy abd tender piece of beef. It's inexpensive and the sides are delicious. My only complain is that at times specially on the weekdays they tend to run out of some of the beef cuts and I have to go with a different choice, I still love it though. read more

When I first walked into Patio D La Morocha I thought it might just be another restaurant trying to sell mediocre food until I saw the grill, and the food coming out. I was shocked, the food is delicious. I had no idea how delicious Uruguayan food is. Steaks, sausages of all kinds, pamplonas (which is meat wrapped in bacong with bits of other meat inside with seasoning....AMAZING), and much more. If you are looking for big portions, amazing food, a relaxed environment that's run by the family, music, low prices for food as well as drinks, and just a great time Patio D La Morocha is the place to go. It is a hidden secret that is too well kept, I can't stop talking about the place to all my friends. I give this restaurant 5 stars because even though they have been open just a few months they have what I think is one of the best food experiences in Miami. read more
