I ordered for pick up. The food was fresh and warm, and I genuinely enjoyed it. I got the mahi mahi lunch special with fried plantains and sautéed vegetables. It comes with a soup or salad, and I got a salad. The "salad" is just greens with balsamic dressing, and about a quarter of the greens were spoiled, so that was a bit disappointing. She told me that I would receive a text when everything was ready. It took about 12 minutes for my chicken and hamburger lunches . This is a very pretty locale. It doesn't have parking. You may valet your car, and the valet girl will make you still get your own car. It's a very interesting system. The food here is a little over condimented for my taste. Specifically the lomo salteado ( I ordered mine with shrimp-which was a nice option). The desserts are really where this place shines. With decadent towers of ice cream, churros, Oreos in milkshakes. Beware of ordering wine. We ordered from Bocas since I loveeeeee Venezuelan empanadas, we were not disappointed. The food arrived fresh and was delicious! The mini empanada trio was so good. I could have used a sauce, but admittedly was excellent as is. As I walked into Bocas Grill, I was greeted and seated at the bar. The bar tender Aixa was fast and attentive. I observed there was plenty of seating and seating for people with disabilities. I decided to stop and grab lunch from here one day since it was right around the corner from my hotel. As soon as you walk, there was a host stand but no one was there. So I wasn't sure if I should stand there or walk up to the bar. I did walk up to the bar and told the lady I wanted to order food to go. I ordered the Pichana bowl because I had never had it before. It does come with a soup or salad. I got a salad with it but I would suggest you choose a soup since the meal already comes with a salad. It didn't take long at all for the meal to be prepared. We ordered PARRILLA MIXTA BOCAS GRILL, it was very filling that fed 4 people. They also brought us F R E E cheese bread! We also got two sides since the menu says the price includes two sides. When we got the receipt we were told the menu is outdated and although it says two sides are included they aren't. We had ordered a salad with ranch as the server Julian told us they had ranch. However when they brought the salad out I had no dressing. I asked several times before I was told they do not have ranch. The only had a house, balsamic and Caesar. We ordered three drinks as well. The food and drinks rang our bill to about $145. The place was nice to try out as we've never had Latin American. read more

Venuezuelan but they cook as much as possible in a wok. I had ceviche and soup, so the question of grill versus wok didn't come up. I assume that this Venezuelan cook likes woks better than grills for the same reason Chinese cooks like woks better than grills. You can flash saute things quickly so they retain their flavor. We avoided the question of "If Ron DeSantis is anti-woke, does that mean he is anti-wok too?" I suspect the answer is yes, but nobody knows for sure. Stupid political jokes aside, Bocas is a first rate place. I endorse it highly. * * * Our table ordered all sorts of different things. Everyone was happy. The star of the table was Fosforera, a spectacular Seafood/Tomato soup. When I was oohing and aahing with pleasure, Everyone else at the table wanted spoons to check out the Fosforera themselves. They oohed and aahed too. On the comfort food side, there was a creamy ceviche. I don't know how you make a ceviche creamy. But this one was. The seafood was high quality and plentiful. The sauce was lovely. * * * Starches in general were not lovely. My soup was served with an arepa that could have served as second base in a softball game. Plantain chips on my ceviche were plantain's answer to wood chips. I didn't care. When you have soup that good and ceviche that good, They could have given me a real second base and real wood chips. I still would have been happy. * * * Two high technology notes. a) The to-go orders are brought out by a waiter robot. I have seen waiter robots in about a half dozen places. They still seem like a comedy act when I see them. They didn't run over anybody or spill their soups. They looked cute. b) One whole wall is given to a giant composite screen of about twenty four very large TV screens. They broadcast travelogue pictures of beautiful Miami - with an emphasis on a drone flying over the beaches and causeways. They were nice pictures and we enjoyed seeing them the first 128 times. But I could see how that could get wearing. At one point, management changed the screen to network television - in order to catch the Miami Open which was in progress. There is nothing quite like a commercial for the latest anti-shingles drug lit as bright as Times Square and covering the entire wall of a restaurant. I suppose I should be just as happy they were not selling a laxative. * * * Still foibles and fumbles aside, Bocas is a wonderful place where I would love to eat again. The only thing harder to find than a good boyfriend is a good restaurant fish soup. When you find a really excellent one, its a keeper. read more

The Chicharron was very good. Cilantro sauce was ok. Loaded tostones were also decent. We get to sit outside with our pups and enjoy the service and excellent food. Even with three mid size dogs they always make us feel welcome. Finding delicious food at a decent price is a challenge in Miami, to say the least. Bocas is one of the rare restaurants in the city that actually meets that criteria. I ordered the fish of the day, which happened to be branzino. You can choose any two sides. I had the wok-smoked vegetables and tostones. And it was only $21! My guest had the smoked shrimp noodles, which was described as having an exquisite flavor. Definitely accompany your dinner with one of their delightful drinks. I suggest the passion fruit sangria. The service was fantastic and the restaurant has a very pleasant ambience. In this season they have added holiday flair with ornamental Christmas touches throughout. There is a large screen, which is currently streaming a snowy Christmas scene. I think this is destined to become a regular spot in my rotation. read more

When I first moved into the Nordica, I was excited to know there was a Venezuelan restaurant. I liked at first, then their flavor as well as their prices started to change over the last 6 months. Unfortunately not in a positive direction, one would've hoped it was. We've had multiple plates, every time, the meat is tough, full of tendons and lacks flavor. Very sad to say, but I wont be visiting them anymore, even if they're just downstairs. I hope in the future they improve and I'll be happy to become a patron once again.
