Ackee & saltfish over rice (no ground food left by 1pm - thankful they still had the ackee!!) & killing jerk chicken //
    Fadda M.

Peeps around here already know that this is the best restaurant jerk chicken in BK. They used to be a pop up only Thur - Sat afternoons, & the line was always down the street around the block. Now, thankfully, they have a brick & mortar, & you can just order your food like a normal person & not like a deranged fanatic w a lawn chair arriving at 5am. Also, they have a few stools & a counter, too, so you no longer have to eat your food standing outside on the sidewalk. Why is their the JC the best of any BK restaurant ? -better quality chicken -the seasoning -the sauce -their grill / smoker Pl note - my jerk chicken here at Al Paragus HQ is still the best - but I am not a jerk chicken restaurant. When I am jonsing (esp when it's cold) - this is where I go. PS - I am drooling just thinking about how good they are. I was just asked today if I wanted JC picked up for me, & my reply was, "TY, but if it's not Yaadman Thing, no thank you".

Tried this place after seeing a review on tiktok. Let's just say it's my new favorite place to get jerk chicken. The chicken itself is really flavorful. You can taste that it came straight off the grill they have going outside, and the jerk bbq sauce is top tier. Service was pretty good as well. Everyone seemed very pleasant! I definitely will be back!

Sometimes the best finds happen when you're focused on family and stumble into excellence. The food is the real deal. Bold, authentic, and done with discipline. Every bite reflects craftsmanship and pride. No shortcuts. No hype. Just results. The open, spacious layout creates an atmosphere that's relaxed, energetic, and inviting--perfect for unwinding, connecting, and enjoying great food without feeling boxed in. It has that Brooklyn-meets-business-meets-community vibe that works. And the pastrami? Memorable. Elite. The kind of flavor that sticks with you and makes you plan your next visit before you've even left.

Hometown Bar-B-Que (Red Hook, Brooklyn)…read more If you're a BBQ lover in NYC, Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook is an absolute must. This place delivers real smoke, real flavor, and that no-nonsense Texas-style authenticity that's hard to find anywhere else in the city. From the moment you walk into the rustic, warehouse-style space at 454 Van Brunt St, you know you're in for something serious. The smell alone will make you hungry. I ordered the brisket, beef rib, and jerk baby back ribs, and each one was perfect in its own way. The brisket melts in your mouth with that beautiful bark and smoke ring. The beef rib is massive, tender, and full of deep smoky flavor. And the jerk ribs are a killer twist spicy, sweet, and unbelievably juicy. Their sides are no afterthought either--mac and cheese, baked beans, and collards were all on point. The staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and even if there's a line, it moves fast and it's 110% worth the wait. Red Hook might be a little out of the way, but Hometown makes the trip feel like a pilgrimage. This is hands-down one of the best BBQ spots in New York City. I'll definitely be back again (and again). Highly recommend. Five stars all the way.

I didn't intend to come here but the restaurant I was originally gonna go to was closed (on a Wednesday of all days) so I shifted over to this place because I came all the way out here, I'm gonna review something. Inside of the place is very roomy and certainly clean. I do have to dock off one star because it's a take out only spot and I would've preferred to stay and eat in, especially with the weather getting more chilly but I digress. The young woman, Bianca tended to me as soon as I came in and I made my order. A large Curry Chicken w/ Mac n Cheese and yams. It was a pretty sizeable portion and was priced fairly at $16 and you certainly get your money's worth. After receiving my order which came with a free piece of Cornbread, I had to deal with the dilemma of, where was I gonna eat this? Eventually I settled on eating my lunch by the park nearby my Grandparents old residence in the rather windy elements. Despite that, the food definitely came in clutch. The Curry chicken definitely had a spice that kept me warm while the Mac n Cheese and yams were delicious and filling. I wonder how amazing it would've been if I were to eat it hot and ready but it was still good nonetheless. My faith in soul food has been restored, at least a chunk of it. I haven't had a taste for it considering the two options Nearby my place is either mid or just awfully bad but I liked what I got from this spot. This Texan found Texas level smoked meat in NYC and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste! These guys have it right. I tried a pound of brisket, marble cut so very moist, one pork rib, with a delicious pepper bark, and the Dominican rice and beans, and the cornbread. Everything was a 10/10. We decided to wait, and it took us 45 minutes to get our food. My favorite meat was the pork ribs. The brisket was tasty but a bit on the dry side, and the sausage didn't stand out to me. I wish that the meats all came with more sauce. Out of the side dishes, I liked the cornbread the most, although the rice and beans and the mac and cheese were also tasty. The food here was solid, but in my opinion, it was not worth the price or the wait. You could get a much nicer experience and tastier meal at a similar price elsewhere.

But regardless the staff was able to accommodate me and still make the tacos. I went during happy hour so I also got a Texas two step that was half priced. The sweet tea was definitely sweet and it hid the alcohol well enough to sneak up on you. I got the lunch menu 3 course meal and I ordered the naked wings sauced half BBQ and half buffalo, the brisket tacos and a chocolate chip cookie in a skillet pan topped with a little vanilla ice cream. Morgans BBQ sauce is amazing, not too tangy not too sweet. Just right. So it made the wings and the brisket tacos even better. The brisket tacos were packed with brisket with a little Pico de gallo for spice. The added BBQ and Mexican flavors made me wonder why it's not a thing already. Can't describe how flavorful the tacos were. They were just amazing. The cookie ended the meal nicely. It was slightly crunchy on top but soft and gooey in the middle. Overall the whole meal was a 9 or 10. My only gripe is the brisket tacos are not available on the regular menu. If management reads this, please add those brisket tacos at least for happy hour, I promise you'll make a killing. It has to be apart of the menu not only for restaurant week. But I will return again to try the other BBQ options just based off the tacos.
