Everything I had was delicious and I would definitely go back again. Make sure to save some room for dessert. Parking: they have valet or if you are staying in the Marquis you can walk! Just a tip that I wish I would have known, If you are going in through the hotel you will need to keep walking to the front of the restaurant to get to the hostess stand. Excellent and uniquely flavorful dinner. As bit of background, I spent time in Oaxaca and loved their mole so much that I sat in my last day there, I sat at an outdoor restaurant in the center of town and ate and ate more mole than I should have had - but loved it The plates were to their roots and the service was excellent and very helpful in explaining the dishes to our group of Californians, New Yorkers and Texans who were not as familiar with Oaxaca. That being said I appreciated the focus on dishes from Oaxaca and the ingredients were very good. I didn't love our entrees nearly as much as the appetizers. I was visiting Houston for my sorority's national biannual conference and we stayed in the Marriot Marquis where this restaurant is at. The whole dining experience and the food were fantastic. Our server was amazing, answered all my questions, and entertained a brief conversation with me in Spanish. The decor is clean and cool feeling and the food tastes fresh, flavorful, not overly salty and doesn't leave you feeling overstuffed and heavy. The drinks were tasty too. This place is aesthetically pleasing. The drink I got was fabulous. It was called Houston strong or something similar. At the recommendation of my server I ordered the mole with Skirt Steak. Let's break this down a bit. Steak: well seasoned and about half of it was cooked a little too much for my liking. You know how steak reaches that point where you cooked it too much so the seasoning and sauce seems to just roll off of it instead of seeping into it? No? Well that's. What the steak was like. Some pieces were delicious though. Mole: I am no expert. So my opinion here may be trash and worthless. The mole was savory and a great consistency but it lacked flavor. The only thing I got from it was a bit of an smoky essence with maybe something tomato-ish. I heard the mole was the specialty so I ordered it. It didn't knock my socks off but it was ok. Plantain: there were three plantain slices, absolutely delicious! Rice and peas: seasoned and well cooked. Would I come back? Yes. To try something else and see if it was just me or a bad batch. Xochi was overall another good experience at a Hugo's restaurant. We reserved in advance and got seated almost immediately. The restaurant atmosphere is very clean and well lit with open windows. Valet Parking is available or if you're lucky you may be able to get street parking (free after 6pm on weekdays).Or you can pay for a nearby garage or lot but it is very expensive! There is a separate vegetarian menu available just as with other restaurants in this group. The food options are very similar to Caracol and Hugos, but I enjoyed the other restaurants more. We ordered tetela for appetizer (similar to a vegetarian stuffed crepe). For entrees we had tlayuda de hongos and the memela. The tlayuda was just ok, it's a thin flatbread almost thin like a chip with beans and salad vegetables on top. There was enough leftover for the next day for me. As far as drinks, they are famous for their margaritas. For a juice/sweet drink, I recommend going with roasted fruit mojito. P.S. be careful about ordering margaritas with gusano salt (this is made out of worms). read more

Wow! Just amazing and delicious. Met my Prima there for Lunch and what a great time. First time for me. This is her Favorite place to go and celebrate life happenings! We choose the Lunch Buffet and it was fantastic. Hot food hot and cold food cold. As it should be. The Drinks were on point. And our Server was very attentive. I really liked that the Manager made his rounds a few times to check on everyone. That says alot!!!! Loved the Ambiance and the live Spanish band inside. This was our favorite meal in Houston. We are big fans of Oaxacan food, as my fiancée's mom is from there, and this really had an authentic local feel. The staff was incredibly kind, and the gentleman at the bar let me know they made an in-house mezcal liquor for one of their cocktails. It was so delicious, we contemplated coming back the next day. Came here during lunch on a Tuesday. There's only valet and metered street parking. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Marriott hotel. The service was very attentive to detail with cleanliness and refilling our water. For two people we ordered: Pescado (4/5) - catch of the day was sea bass. The fish by itself was just regular pan seared fish so the skin had a little crisp to it. If you eat it with the rest of the elements on the dish like the sauce, vegetables, and corn dough (which tastes like tortilla dough) it was delicious! Chile Relleno de Pollo (5/5) - stuffed grilled poblano peppers with shredded chicken and cheese. The mole sauce was so flavorful with the addition of the smokiness of the peppers from the charring and the melty cheese... Wow. Explosion of flavors. Tacos de Pato (5/5) - 2 crispy tacos with tender shredded roasted duck meat. The flavors was so good! It was not gamey at all. It was surprisingly pleasant. The vinaigrette they put on the salad and green tomatillo salsa that they paired with the tacos worked well wince the tacos was very savory and a bit fatty yet meaty. Tres leches de chocolate y coco (5/5) - if you like almond joy +the candy bar)... This is how it tastes like but without the almonds and not as sweet. It was so good! The berries and little guava slices that came with it elevated every bite! Highly recommend it. Horchata mousee cake (5/5) - it was paired with vanilla ice cream on top of some cinnamon crumbles. The blue color and plating was beautiful. The mousee was smooth and creamy and the flavor was on point with the horchata! Overall, super impressed with this place! I thought I'd be eating food I've already tasted and familiar with, but it actually exceeded my expectations. There were so many flavors and we enjoyed every single bite. We would love to come back again to try other dishes. I wish the serving size was a bit more though. For two adults with 3 entrees and 2 desserts, we didn't leave feeling full, only satisfied lol. ZD Wine Dinner: Gosh, I was sooooo looking forward to this dinner! My foodie friend and I saw the menu, and we were sold. Here's how it went down... The potato taquito appetizer was delicious! ...light and crispy shell with savory filling nicely balanced with bright salsa albanil, crema, and queso fresco. The sopecito de pollo con mole was underwhelming. I'm not a fan of plantains, so I passed on the third option. This course was paired with a margarita, which I actually enjoyed - refreshing and not too sweet, My friend raved about the lobster taco course, which was paired with a fruit-forward Chardonnay. While I found the lobster to be the perfect temp and texture, it was under-seasoned. The next course - the duck confit - was my favorite. The duck was incredibly tender and delicious, and the tamarind mole was wonderfully bright. The main course - the petit filet - well I think it's clear the components were prepared by different people. The asparagus was beautifully seasoned and perfectly tender. The filet had zero salt... like it seemed the person at the meat station forgot to season it. It was also not tender at all, and as petit as it was, I didn't finish it. The ant mole, however, was a complex work of art with a nice kick. This was served with 2 different cabs, both of which I feel should have had time to breathe. The dessert course, however, lived up to my lofty expectations. The words "dense soft chocolate pudding'" ...I mean how can you not look forward to that? The words perfectly described this creamy decadence, and I loved it. Overall, the food was inconsistent, but the worst part of the evening was how ridiculously loud it was in that room. No exaggeration, we had to lean in and yell at each other to converse, and it was absolutely annoying. Some of the other guests were so freaking loud, it was like having razors cutting into my ears. Everything about Xochi is amazing. I just went again recently and tried out the Tlayuda de Res and it was so unique and balanced. Previously I've tried the Memela y Huevos and the Papas en Mole and those are both sooo good. My favorite so far is definitely the Taquitos Dorados. Inside and outside seating ,when the weathers nice, both are very calm and pretty. The bathrooms as well are very clean. Come here to celebrate my birthday, this place has been on my list for a few years now. I don't even know where to begin the staff, the ambiance, the food, it's all amazing. We made reservations for their patio section, I always prefer to sit outside if I can. I ordered a Houston strong drink which was pretty good. For appetizers we ordered the oysters (ostiones de lujo), you cannot go wrong with these, definitely delicious. For entree I got the enchiladas and managed to get a side of Brussels spout (it was not in their menu but the waiter said they were making them for a daily special and would ask). They should consider having the brussels sprouts as a side on their menu because they were really good, even my husband who's not a fan liked them. The enchilada plate was yummy. For dessert we decided on the cacao. Omg! This is one of the coolest desserts ever. The dessert comes inside a white chocolate shell made to look like a cacao pod (this is worth every penny!). Nestled in a ritzy-er part of downtown, and minutes away from the ballpark, Xochi is highly acclaimed and reviewed. Not being local we added this as our final dinner and I can't exactly say that I loved what I ate. This is one of those types of places that has incredibly IG worthy plating and is so fancy and artistic that an average Jane like myself has literally no clue what they ate. I pointed to things on the menu and just hoped the waiter could interpret over the noise level. I ordered the pulpo which was an octopus dish on a corn meal type patty paired with watermelon radish garnishes and 2 types of sauce and the helado de elote or sweet corn icecream. The octopus wasn't the most savory that I've had before. It was cooked perfectly but the flavor didn't have complexity or contrast. It was just fishy. The green sauces were good and fresh. The patty that the octopus was on didn't really enhance or complement it at all. It was just empty carbs with the octopus coming off of it several times as I ate. The sweet corn icecream had a blue corn atole which was delicious but the whiskey icrecream, crumbs and corn icecream pieces were almost missing a slight salt hit or something that would help differentiate their flavors. I think that if it had a bit of salt it would perhaps bring it out better? It all tasted very similar. Plating was stunning but again the flavor just wasn't there for me. read more

Ah Xochi. The last time I visited was at least 4 years ago, and I was somewhat skeptical that you could still live up. My friend convinced me that it was one of the best meals he's had in a long time, so we arrived for happy hour. We sat at the bar for full service, and Carlos took good care of us. The cocktails are works of art in their simplicity and flavor. I loved the Paloma with mezcal, and also the mango y chile mezcal cocktail with achiote salt. Carlos insisted that I try the mezcalini, which had a decadent base of mango sorbet- it's practically dessert, okay y'all. The following items are all bocadillos off of the happy hour menu. We had guacamole, which lacked salt but I felt clever swiping the salt off of the rim of my Paloma glass and adding it to the guac, which in turn made it perfect. The totopos/tostadas come as whole crunchy tortilla that you break into pieces to dip into the guacamole. The costillas de puerco (crispy pork ribs in mole coloradito) were good starters to whet our palate for the incoming mole feast. I carefully wrapped mine in the handmade tortilla and it was so tender. We were in between ordering the memelita de pollo versus the molotes de xoxocotlan, and we elected for the memelita. It did not disapoint: texturally perfect and exquisite in presentation. The ABSOLUTE star of the show: cachetes de res (braised beef cheeks con mole pasilla). Just melt-in-your-mouth tender, didn't even need the knife. Incredible. Also- everything was made dairy-free for me because I'm lactose intolerant (my date for the night got to have all the queso fresco y crema on the side). I do need to mention that I cheated with the lactose intolerance- the churros y Oaxacan hot chocolate on the dessert menu was too tantalizing to pass up. Possibly the best churros I've ever had in my life- served crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and piping hot, the dip dip dip in the hot chocolate was pure heaven. Highly recommend. I couldn't drink the hot chocolate because of the dairy, but I could tell that it was amazing. Great follow-up experience- next time I'll just do the entire flight of mole dishes. If you like mole and mezcal (and why wouldn't you?), you'll love hanging out at Xochi. It made me miss Oaxaca so much! read more
