    A few of my work friends had recommended Xin Fa Bakery for their egg tarts ($2), so I decided to buy some for a gathering. There is a good amount of custard and the crust is on the thinner side. I am not a fan of the crust because it feels more crumbly. There is a worker in the front who will get the baked items for you to maintain order and cleanliness.

    $2 Portuguese egg tarts - they only sell these but they are just like regular egg tarts! Really great value. I would come back again. The custard is eggy and there is a great amount of it in the tart. The pastry crust is thin. They make it pretty often so I got mine warm!!! This was so yummy and better than Flushing egg tarts for price, value, and taste!!

    Was taking a walk on 8th ave in Brooklyn and decided to check out this lovely bakery. I think I got a corn dog and a red bean bun. They were super fresh. Right out of the oven. Coffee was ok. I think it is located right now at 5816 8th ave. Will be back to try the egg tarts. Very good customer service.

    The best egg tarts in Brooklyn! If you're lucky, you might not have a long wait but even on a rainy day, I had to wait 30 minutes! At least I know they were made fresh and packed just for me. Their egg tarts are great cause it's thick! The crust is nice and flakey and still manages to hold onto the thick custard. It's also not too sweet, making it the perfect little snack. I've gotten breads and other pastries from here as well but the egg tarts are the move to go. They also have the name Lily Bloom inside too so I'm not sure if this bakery is still called Xin Fa but I know there are other Lily Bloom bakeries around the block that aren't as busy as this one. So if you want to skip the wait, go to one of the other locations!

    100% one of the best egg tarts I've had, definitely top 3. Their Portuguese egg tart is the real star, and pretty affordable at $1.75 each! It gets pretty busy and crowded inside the bakery, so we ate outside at a nearby park.

    I'm a huge fan of egg tarts and this place have the best one I've ever had! It lives up to the hype. The custard to shell ratio is perfect! It seems like 85% custard and 15% shell. It came out SUPER hot I burned the roof of my mouth 3 times but I just couldn't wait. I've never finish any shell of an egg tart before, but I did here! Part of the shell have a cheesy taste to it. The custard was not too sweet and it wasn't heavy with the vanilla either, just the right amount. It was so fluffy!

    More like a 3.75 / 5 On the long-term search for a great Portuguese / Macanese Egg Tart and on a day of Brooklyn errands, I finally made it to Xin Fa Bakery. Supposedly they're a sister bakery to the growing Lily Bloom Bakery. In the middle of the block, on a busy food shopping stretch of Sunset Park (running into Borough Park) aka Brooklyn's Chinatown, the nicely designed, modern bakery looks cozy old school with clean simple modern decor, displays, and also cakes & pastries that looked like a French influence. Or it might have a bit of Korean influence- not sure. But once you move to the back for the pastries & pick-yourself-tongs & trays, you can find traditional Chinese baos alongside square matcha sponge cakes. It's still an interesting mixture of refined Chinese baking. BUT we were there for the Portuguese Egg Tarts & so was everyone else at close to 5pm. They were constantly baking and there was a 8-10 person line. One cashier was for pick-ups, the other was for orders & payment of all items. Most workers spoke Mandarin and Cantonese, and a some English. But always, folks are kinder when you speak Cantonese. The clientele were inter-generational Chinese, but also Latinx and gentrifiers popping in. The Egg Tarts were $1.75! For either regular or Portuguese. They take your cell # & give you a receipt. It was about a 10 minute wait. Many of 15 people of all ages milling around and at tables were waiting. AMAZING that everyone was there - still coming at 5pm (close 7pm - half the cases were empty), for this elusive tart. The tarts came out steaming hot and jiggly. They are THICK! Almost 2" deep. The crust was a flakey version, but pressed a bit more. Took a bite on the car ride home and it tasted like steamed egg. A bit disappointed. However - had some more for dessert after dinner, after it cooled significantly, and it was pretty tasty! Not-too-sweet. Very generous portion. The tart isn't life changing soft as Flushing Bakery (RIP), Double Crispy, or Joey Bat's; but a great option to try you're nearby. There weren't any other buns that looked traditional or interesting to try. Wonder if they have Pineapple Kaya Custard Buns earlier in the day.

    Finally decided to wait in the queue for eggtarts that's suppose to be really yummy. I didn't understand the custard texture everyone in reviews were talking about, until I tried it myself. Seating inside as people enjoy a fresh egg tart, you can buy a single one, or a couple, or a box that comes with 6pcs. Egg tarts you wait in line that's behind the counter. It is indeed custard, but like creamy and fills you up w deliciousness. I got a box and ate one thats still warm, bc they come out fresh baked. So tender inside and flaky crust outside. There's also breads and buns to look at while you wait in line, feels like a bank line during a retail checkout.

    Solid bakery and the egg tarts (no don tat, but more like po tat) are good. Their egg tarts are more Portuguese style, which is richer than a plain egg custard tart, but it's still a solid 3.75 to 4. Xin Fa's other bakery items are good as well -- not the best I've ever had, but better than just average. They even have pineapple bun with butter (bo lo yao) but it could use more butter. It's not as good as in Hong Kong, but will be 50-60% satisfying if you just need a fix. If you want bakery items, line up and let the person there get the items for you (don't grab a tray yourself). Egg tarts are purchased directly at the cashier.

    - Locale Destination - It's on 8th ave and 57th st in Borough Park, Brooklyn. The storefront says "Xin Fa Bakery", but inside says differently - "Lily Bloom bakery". Make up your mind. Confusing. Ambiance: Once you get into the bakery, I looks like a typical bakery with several seating. Menu: Breads seems normal, but the pastry and drinks are more interesting. Pastries - Mille crepes, tarts, cakes etc. Not just "Portuguese custard tart", which is so famous for. Service: many of them only speak Chinese. You can use credit cards! - Gluttony Expedition - Portuguese custard tart: Bomb!!! Get it when it's fresh and hot! They open at 8am, but didn't put them out till 9am. When you don't order like 16, you might wait but can get the fresh one right off the oven. Your wait time totally worth it. Rose tea: they actually put rose buds, which I do like. Tea is just a tea bag. But not bad for $3.50 (16oz). - Conqueror's Deduction - It's quite cheap and tasty. Usually boba tea costs +$5 at least in NYC, so this place is a steal. Get the Portuguese tart right off the oven! I like it!

    Egg tart is a must have. It only cost $1.75 per one. If you come on weekend and buying the egg tart, you have to come earlier.

    Egg tarts are rich and creamy. Taro cakes are good too. Bit on the pricey end. Good comfort foods.

    If you go to Lily Bloom on 86th street off Bay Parkway, you don't have to wait. Less crowded and same offerings. The place is run by the same people. They have a third location in Bay Ridge Brooklyn.

    Do they have egg tarts and all of pastries ready when they open in the morning? If I go around that time, do I still need to call ahead to place an order?
