Small Chinese bakery but they got all your classics like egg tart, red bean bread, pineapple bun and my fav coconut cream bread. Since it's a small business, I'm guessing it's cash only (I paid with cash). Or there might be a minimum to use credit card. My coconut cream bread cost $2.25. That bread, man. So freakin good! It was warm and coconut to bread ratio was perfect. This bakery reminds me of home in the San Gabriel Valley in LA. This was perfect for breakfast! Quick, simple and you're on your way to continue exploring the city.
Stopped by here for a quick snack while walking in Chinatown and it wasn't bad. They have a variety of Chinese pastries, from sweet to savory. I ended up getting their Portuguese egg tart. While I found that it was a bit pricier than my go-to ones (from other shops in Chinatown), it wasn't bad. I think in the end though, it didn't stand out and there are other spots nearby for same quality and better price. Cozy shop inside with some seating but meant to be a grab and go spot. They also only accept cash, Zelle, or Venmo.
Very well organized and brightly lit. Everything's also well packaged and high quality. Their specialties are their dan tat (egg custard tart) and lo paw beng (wife cake). There's 3 tables of 6 seats each if you'd like to eat there, and it's fairly clean. Prices aren't the best compared to the more nondescript bakeries nearby, but you get what you pay for.
Haven't been to this bakery for a long time. With all the great Chinese bakeries in Chinatown, this one never really comes to mind. However, my friend said that it's her favorite spot for egg tarts, so I had to come back and try again to confirm. Generally, I prefer a puff pastry crust for my Egg Tarts rather than the pie crust-like version here. That was the first negative on their Egg Tart for me. Also, the filling was not creamy at all and more flan-like. Sadly I do not agree with my friend. On the other hand, I really like their Peanut Mochi, which was extremely soft and gooey. I do wish it had more peanut filling with a little less sugar, but it is certainly better than most.
Vibrant storefront that brings in a lot of people. The bakery is clean, well organized, and well stocked. There are a few tables for inside seating. The store also includes a drink menu. Please come and create your own adventure.
This is my go-to spot for egg tarts in Manhattan's Chinatown (and they serve literally anthing else you'd like for Asian bakery: savory, sweet pastries, cakes, Hong Kong style coffee and tea, steamed baos, dry snacks, and moon cakes!) The staff here, while efficient at the counter, is really nice and friendly. There are a few booth-style tables inside to enjoy your treats + coffee for dine-in. I love how they serve mooncakes (individual, 2 pc, or 4pc options)!! The egg tarts are perfection. I personally prefer the Macau style egg tarts (aka Portuguese egg tart) over the Hong Kong style, but I like how you can order both here.

Had items that were ordered to-go from this bakery in the winter. The pastries were all fresh and smelled delicious! Located in Chinatown, this bakery is a classic Chinese pastry shop that is also clean and organized. Immediately when you walk in, you face a shelf in the middle and 2 shelves on the ends which include the homemade breads. It has a variety of pastries and the classic trays to place your items on as you shop.
Months after I saw (and loved) the NYT mini documentary about their mooncakes, I finally made it in. Red bean mooncake and pineapple mooncake were both great. The pineapple wins for chewy texture, but it had a slightly artificial pineapple taste. So the red bean wins for flavor. Also nice that they stock them outside of the holiday! BUT - the Macau egg tart stole the show. 5 stars for the egg tart alone.
Posting an old picture but decided to go here and pick up some mooncakes for mid autumn festival. Decided to get a couple in the mini size in varying flavors. All tasted great and loved the cute containers that they came in too! Everything is neatly displayed in the bakery and everything was easy to find. It has a nice mom and pop shop look to it. Just remember to bring cash when you go!

If you don't like waiting until the Mid-Autumn festival and want your mooncakes all year round, head over to Double Crispy. They have mini mooncakes available throughout the year (although, flavors may be limited), and have the large ones available during the Mid-Autumn festival/Mooncake season. I got 4 mini mooncakes: Green Tea, White Lotus, Black Sesame and Pineapple (I picked this one thinking it was Winter Melon but it turned out to be Pineapple). The only flavor I didn't care much about is the pineapple. The white lotus was very typical and tasted like the ones I have had elsewhere. I absolutely LOVED the green tea and the black sesame ones so much! The black sesame paste had the exact amount of nuttiness I needed. The green tea one was so fragrant because the paste is actually made with jasmine green tea which I absolutely adore!! I couldn't be more happy with my purchase, can't wait to buy the large sized mooncakes soon and devour them all! read more
Food: I came here to try the mooncakes after seeing a New York Times video featuring this bakery. The large mooncakes range from $6-8 depending on the variety, and the small mooncakes are $3.50. The flavors include lotus paste, black sesame, red bean, winter melon, durian, pineapple, and green tea. Mooncakes come with or without egg yolks. I tried the durian mooncake which was good. I also tried a red bean mochi pancake. The fillings in the mooncake and mochi cake were a bit too sweet, but overall, the baked goods here are delicious. I would go back and try other items. Service: Staff were friendly! Ambiance: The bakery is not big but has a couple of small tables. Overall, I would recommend this bakery! read more
Double Crispy has stepped up their game with so much competition from other bakeries in Chinatown. It is really convenient for me because it's halfway between my sister's place and the Grand St subway station and I can pick up cakes, pastries, snacks and drinks to bring to my favorite nieces and nephews. My other sister likes grabbing coffee and milk tea from here; iced in the summer and hot in the winter. I like that most of my favorite buns are self-service on the display tables and I will usually grab some char siu, hot dog and ham & egg baos to snack on or have for breakfast over the whole week. If you like egg tarts, there is usually a whole tray of them that you have to ask for them to wrap up for you. They come in the standard baked style and the sugar torched (bruléed) Portuguese style. Fresh is best but if you have to microwave your bao, eat them quick or they turn into rubber. The Pikachu Pokemon display cake looks really cute and I just might order that for my grand niece's birthday in a few months! read more

Came in for the air condition and stayed for the egg tarts. After reading some older reviews, inflation and time has surely taken it's course. These pretty pastries are now 2.25 a piece. The taste is "bright" with a lemon zest or could be how brightly yellow they are. The pastry itself is crispy, as long as you get it hot. I personally get 2-3 to eat in the span of 1-2 days (1 for the moment, the others for the next day or two) and it holds up well enough. read more
This bakery was a redemption bakery for me- what does that mean? I originally purchased a bun at another Chinatown bakery a few blocks down and did not like the bun at all. I was still hangry so decided to walk into this bakery to purchase baked goods to fill my hunger. The buns here were fresh and warm, and tasted pretty good. Love their po tats (Portuguese egg tarts) Absolutely my fam and my favorite from here. Po tat prices have been increasing over the years (now $2.25 for one). It used to be under $2! My parents have tried the pastries from here and like it. I personally haven't had them but I will 100% always come back for the egg tarts. The place is small and they used to have seats for you to enjoy your food but I think after pandemic, they no longer have that. Staff are friendly and respectful! read more
Their Portuguese egg tarts are delicious hot or cold i can probably eat 5 in one seating theyre flaky outside and soft inside, quick service ladies dont care. You can eat inside a bit of tables connected seats to your right small space. read more

On the quest to find the best egg/po tats in the city, my next stop was Double Crispy Bakery. They stand out in that even though I went close to closing, they somehow were able to keep their po tats warm, and the crust crumbly and fresh. I enjoyed the crumbly texture of the crust, and the po tat wasn't super jammy on the inside like I was hoping it would be, but did have a nice char. As far as the custard texture goes they're definitely in the middle in terms of super eggy jammy to cooked eggy solid. It was subtly sweet, and the crust had a nice savoriness to it. Beware, they only take cash. Solid spot, and doing great by keeping the egg tarts warm. I will go back to return their dan tat. Don't sleep on their other items too! They have standard chinese bakery fare worth checking out. read more

Char Siew Bao (Roast Pork Bun) was pretty darn good. I was looking for an alternative since my go-to spot was closed that day. It was like $2? a bit pricey than the average, but definitely worth the price. [I did find a piece of bone in the cha siew filling so deducting a star]. It will prob be an alternative spot for me. Portuguese Egg Tart - Also this was the first time having it at this bakery. Verdict - not flakey enough, but the custard filling was yummy. read more

Their prices are way more reasonable than the more popular bakeries in the area and the taste was excellent. Only $2.50 for a slice of cake and the sandwiches were $5.50. Skip the fancy places and go here. You won't be sorry. read more
I came here for their egg tarts and Double Crispy Bakery did not disappoint. At $2 for one egg tart, it's a little steep and pricier than some of the other places (~$1.50 at other places for similar size and taste). As the name of the bakery suggests, the crust was flaky and heftier than the other bakeries that I tried. The sturdy crust makes it good for transporting. The egg custard had good flavor and consistency. This is a solid egg tart; I'd be happy to come back here again for more. read more

The pastries are all delicious but the best are there egg tarts. The edges are so crispy and the custard in the middle is so soft like pudding. This is our 3rd time and we will definitely be returning~ read more
I've been to this small Chinese bakery a handful of times primarily for their outstanding cheap egg tarts; both HK and Macau style (though the latter is better.) The Macau version/Po Tat is 25¢ more and it's worth it. Nicely fluffy with a stronger egg flavor. Also not overly sweet compared to other spots. This might be low-key the best version I've eve had though I'm almost happy (in a selfish way) that they don't have the lines from the other famous egg tart spots. The Hong Kong style/Dan Tat is a close second but it's still solid. I've gone there just before closing and earlier and it always tastes fresh and delicious with a good egg flavor and a similarly flaky crispy crust. No complaints either with the only better one I know being in Flushing. I've tried other pastries here which are just alright but go here for the specialty. Friendly person in front as well. read more
Great selection, always has people whenever I stop in, and cash only (like many places in Chinatown!) Come early if you want the egg tarts to be fresh and warm! The regular egg tarts are $1.50 and often sold out by the afternoon. They always have the Portuguese ones available. The egg tarts truly live up to the bakery name - crispy, light and fluffy! You can see each layer of the crust I also tried their pineapple bun but did not think it was great, but definitely the 5 stars is for their egg tart! I went several times within my month there, and they have other selection of baked goods. read more

A small shop very well lit and clean. At busy times you would see a small line of people waiting for the Portuguese egg tart here. I tried it and it was excellent. They keep it in a warming display case so you always have warm and crispy egg tart. $2.25 a piece which is not too expensive. read more
