I had coffee and a pastry at Xamán Cafe with my mom this past weekend when we were in Oak Cliff/Bishop Arts for a morning. First of all, the cafe is gorgeous. The cafe is inspired by Mexico's pre-Hispanic culture and history. The cafe itself is modern and bright, but you can see touches of pre-Hispanic culture in their menu and in their dishes. They serve their coffees in mugs made in Mexico - that are beautiful and traditional (black clay with faces on them, in a style popular in and traditional to the state of Oaxaca). We were meeting someone for brunch in a bit, so we couldn't eat a full meal, but I'd love to return for brunch in the future. (They serve brunch daily - starting at 7:30 on weekdays and 8 on Saturdays and Sundays.) Their menu is great - full of Mexican dishes I love: chilaquiles, enmoladas, pozole (only on weekends), sopa de fideo (M-Th only), and more... In addition to their menu, they offer some pastries at the counter. I tried their cajeta empanada, which was very good. Their drink menu is great, too, though: cafe de olla, Oaxaca mocha (with Mexican chocolate), cajeta macchiato, matcha, cocktails (like a fun play on an espresso martini and a carajillo), and more... My mom had a simple coffee, but I tried their Xamán horchata: their house made horchata and a double espresso. Our coffees were great. My empanada was a treat. The service was good. The cafe is gorgeous. I'd be happy to return - hopefully next time for some food from their great menu!

I've had this place on my list for a while and finally decided to stop by. We were seated quickly they have a front area and back area for customers. The menu is a great size not to large being overwhelming or to small. There coffees all sounded delicious but i got the espresso horchata iced which they bring the espresso on the side so you can manage how much you intake at a time. The flautas came recommended and were delicious. They had a subtle spice which was perfect and that crunch you expect

This place is better than Starbucks, but don't just take my word for it. Go there. The staff is wonderful, the menu choices are plentiful, and the environment is great for coming and going or staying. There's even a back bar area room that is good for parties and private meetings.

GREAT food, drinks and staff! The eggs on my avocado toast were perfectly cooked, and the base was seasoned well. I also got the seasonal biscoff latte and it was perfect. Vibes are calm and lovely, and I was pleasantly surprised with the selection of baked goods. I can't wait to come back to try the crepas ;)

Such a great little spot all of the food we've had here has been great. The staff were all really kind and quick to assist.

Gorgeous space, very intimate. I had to remove two stars though for the customer service. The staff working the counter as well as our server didn't make me feel very welcome. I didn't catch the server's name but she was clearly trying to flip her table as soon as possible. During breakfast here, she returned incessantly to ask if we were done or needed anything else. It was aggressive especially while in deep conversation or mid bite. The chilaquiles were fine and I liked the brown sugar latte. They also have a cute patio out front. Parking was a bit rough, street parking with meters. Overall, the service being a bit off putting keeps me from wanting to visit again.

Xaman Cafe is one of the nicest brunches I have had in a LONG time! The Flan was thick and creamy, on the eggy side, I enjoyed it not sure if its for you? The corn pancakes were my favorite, paired perfectly with their light syrup. soft and moist and balanced. Birria is decent its also a balanced not too greasy or salty meal anyone can enjoy. The drinks were what I was hyped up for, so I got the matcha and coffee hortchata and also the Jamaica , they were all kinda just watery Music was a bit loud for brunch but they have tons of seating around, service was better for a brunch experience. I ordered most of the things I wanted off the brunch so I would need to see if there would be new seasonal items or a change in menu to pair with the pancakes.

Lovely cafe that has a speakeasy with a risky name. Lattes came in the coolest mugs. Soup was surprisingly good and service was perfect. I think they should warn people about the presentation of the churros. It was different but still tasty.

Such a cute spot!!! The interior is sooo pretty and their coffee is so good! If i lived closer id be here more often for coffee and a pastry c: We dined in on a saturday for lunch and they have seating in the front of the cafe and also much more in the back by the bar! We ordered small cups of red pozole (delicious btw we cleared those so fast) and i got the chorizo omelette and i loved how their green salsa is super spicy and flavorful!! The cups the coffee were served in are v cute too. Id love to stop by for dinner and try out their cocktails! Our server was also super friendly and attentive :)

Host and waitress were attentive. Sat us down quickly. Food was really good! They sat us in the back room which was really cool feels like you're going into a speakeasy bar and it pretty much is! Was there for breakfast though! Had the croissant with soup! Soup was pozole by the way soooo yummy! Lavender Matcha was great!

The food was a 10/10 I've never had chilaquiles de mole and they were bomb ! Service was amazing, very tentative. The vibes were authentic Mexican which I love and warmed my soul ! It felt like home, I will definitely be back.

I went for the corn pancakes as I was comparing to the blue corn pancakes that I had at another restaurant. The breakfast/brunch menu was very limited. The staff was friendly and attentive. The corn pancakes were okay. They were pretty heavy and didn't come with a side. I don't believe this establishment serves a side of bacon. I don't remember if I had two or three pancakes but I didn't leave as full as what I would like. Cool vibe. I heard it turns into a speakeasy after a certain time.

THE BIG: Located in Bishop Arts district of Dallas. This is a cute Oaxacan style restaurant with delicious food! Bags of Mexican coffee line the hallway. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Wowowow. This spot is where it's at. I came up with the wife and a childhood friend to see the Texas Rangers game. The brunch at Xaman Cafe was part of the tour. The restaurant seems small at first, but then you walk back and there's another part of the restaurant that seems like a speakeasy. I bet it is at night. Classic Oaxaca decor and flair. We ordered the mole chilequiles, torta ahogada, and the oaxacan mocha for that caffeine fix. All was so good. The mole chilequiles had a nice nuttiness with the mole and the torta was delivered in a tomato based dipping sauce that was absolutely amazing. THE FINAL BAMBOO: For two dishes and an oaxacan mocha, the damage done was around $45. Great meal all around and I will definitely be back to try more items.

One quick tip for the minimalist eater: if you visit during weekend brunch, the kitchen pivots to a heavy, savory menu. You won't find simple pastries or basic toast options during these hours, as even their avocado toast is a massive, fully-loaded meal. Which is a miss for me. Regret we were so hungry I forgot to take pictures of the food! Overall, it's highly recommended for a lively atmosphere and top-tier craft lattes!

I visited today after a friend highly recommended this place as somewhere great to eat and get work…read moredone. I came in planning to order food and a golden turmeric latte and spend some time working. When I walked in, there was a messy looking podium which turned out to be an unmanned hostess stand, but there were no signs or instructions indicating whether I should wait to be seated or order at the counter. I started walking toward the counter when a tall woman quickly stomped her way to block my entrance and demanded to know what I wanted. Then asked if I was dining in or ordering to go. The way she rushed over and her tone made me feel as though I had done something wrong just by walking in. The interaction felt unnecessarily aggressive and confrontational. I was so taken aback that I just ordered a golden latte to go. I felt embarrassed by how the situation was handled, especially in front of other customers. Any excitement I had about trying their food disappeared after that moment. And I was not allowed past the podium. I was basically by the door while I waited. Unfortunately, the interaction didn't improve from there. The barista handed me my drink while keeping noticeable distance, which added to the uncomfortable feeling as if I wasn't meant to move past the entrance area. As someone new to the neighborhood, the overall experience felt very unwelcoming. I even tried to lighten the situation by mentioning that a friend had recommended the place and that I was new to the area, but I was cut off mid-sentence. The drink itself was also disappointing. Compared to golden lattes I've had elsewhere, this one was very grainy and lacked flavor. It tasted more like hot water with sediment than a well-balanced turmeric drink. Given this experience, I don't plan to return. For a small café that wasn't busy at the time, the presence of a hostess-style setup without a hostess there felt unnecessary, and the customer service did not match the welcoming atmosphere I was hoping for. This is not a high end place and I was wearing a bouse, black pants, and dress shoes. So I'm not sure what that was.

First of all, the Bishop Arts District itself is incredibly charming. Block after block of unique shops ranging from bookstores and bakeries to candle shops, candy stores, coffee spots, and little boutiques. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood I loveeeee exploring while traveling and if I lived in Dallas, I'd probably frequent this area often. As for The Wild Detectives, the concept alone immediately appealed to me...bookstore meets cafe meets bar meets restaurant. That combination will pretty much always grab my attention. I love to read, I love to eat. The space has a pretty relaxed, community oriented vibe, and during my Saturday morning/early afternoon visit, there were plenty of people working, reading, chatting, and hanging out both inside and on the patio. My one slight disappointment was that the bookstore side itself was smaller than I expected and didn't have quite as extensive a selection as I had imagined. That said, I still managed to leave with a few great additions for my ever growing TBR pile. Overall, this was a worthwhile stop and one I may revisit the next time I'm in Dallas.
