My husband and I visited Carne once again. Another fantastic and almost 5-star experience. This…read moretime, we were seated on the second floor looking out with a view of the city and stormy sky. We happened to arrive for Happy Hour. My husband was able to enjoy a burger, which he exclaimed over as quite an indulgence. I could see the large burger and fresh bun with that sauce, onions, yum! I did sneak a seasoned French fry, which satisfied as hot, crispy, and flavorful. He also enjoyed special pricing on his cocktail and wine, which, as usual, were fantastic. Just their house red was a jammy show off, and the Rebel Rebel cocktail, in its little coupe glass, a cute nod to my husband's favorite whiskey cocktails.
Speaking of flavor, the bread service included an amazing herb butter. I'm not sure what all was in this butter; perhaps black garlic? But, it was a flavor BOMB, and while I try to steer clear of extra fats like butter on my bread, I just HAD to place a melting bit on each bite of the warm, fresh baguette. Also provided with the bread service was a tasty and spice red sauce, which we both thought might be more suited to a chip dip rather than fresh bread. Perhaps it's just what we're used to.
My entree was the Picanha cut. A Sirloin cap, tender, sliced, and cooked nicely medium-rare+, with a chimichurri sauce that does not disappoint. A garlicky, spicy, delicious and healthy accompaniment to the steak indulgence. I ordered the seasonal veggies as a side, hoping to round out my red meat indulgence. These veggies included a mix of potatoes, corn, and some other additions I could not quite place--was it celery or okra? And some squash, carrots, and peppers. The dish, while spicy and tasty, was a bit soggy. I ate what I could, but did not take the remaining home with me.
Dessert definitely took the cake (in the most positive sense!). I wish we could have tried them all, but we chose the blueberry cheesecake to share. OMG, this beautiful cheesecake had blueberries mixed in, and a deliciously sweet/tangy blueberry topping--sort of a combination of a glaze and a thin layer of blue beauty. The crust, a fresh, delicious, simple graham. Simple, but so freshly seasoned and spicy (not hot spicy, but ginger-spice-flavorful) that you just knew this cheesecake must have been baked today. It had not seen time in the fridge or freezer, for sure.
The vibe is comfortable; the food fine enough to dress up for a night out, but the ambiance friendly and casual. With the number of young people and families with children dining, it's clearly a hot neighborhood gem. We will relish another return to this new favorite for steak night. Oh, but don't be confused. There are delicious chicken, fish, and pork dishes, as well (tasted on our first visit to Carne).
