Win-Sputino is truly a hidden gem. It's located in Market City, but not on the Café Kaila side. Instead, if you head toward Foodland, you'll see a stairwell to your right -- and in fact, from the parking lot, you'll see the Win-Sputino sign. Other Yelpers gave good directions on how to find this place (it's across from a salon upstairs).
In case you're doubtful that you're heading in the right direction, there's a menu for Win-Sputino in the stairwell itself (posted on the left) ... so you can see beforehand if it's worth going upstairs to check out. But, rest assured, it is.
During my lunch visit during the week--soon after 10:30 a.m., when the eatery opened--the owner (I'm guessing he was the owner) said they would soon be expanding the seating area and make more room for tables. That's good news, because currently, there were only about eight small tables in the seating area. But, the interior was cozy -- they create a homey, warm and welcoming environment, despite the small space. And the eatery overlooks the parking lot. It's not the most magnificent view, but it gives you that feel that you're "in the know" about something special.
I got take-out during my first visit, and it took about 15-20 minutes of waiting. But the wait was worth it. And I even got one of those cheesecakes to go.
A word of advice: definitely opt for one of those cheesecake flavors. You'll need some sweetness after all that garlic.
Here's what I ordered:
"Chicken Piccata": This entrée is a staple at my favorite Italian restaurants, and this version didn't disappoint. It featured chicken sautéed with garlic, capers, butter and white wine. I saw so many Yelp photos of this dish that I simply had to try it for myself. On the bright side, the chicken pieces were super tender and flavorful. The two pieces were generous slabs and they were thick and hearty. I loved the amount of capers and garlic--there's a ton of garlic--in this dish. The only con I had about this entrée was that the noodles weren't really anything special ... I thought you got your choice of spaghetti or linguini (I didn't read the menu carefully or opt for linguine), but the person who took my order didn't ask, either, so maybe I was incorrect. Regardless, the spaghetti noodles here weren't anything special. Perhaps I'm already too spoiled by homemade pasta noodles. Regardless of the noodles' ordinary factor, I would get this dish again because of the savory chicken and garlic.
"OREO Cheesecake": I really enjoy the cheesecake served at The Cheesecake Factory, and they used to make a really good original OREO cheesecake. In recent years, The Cheesecake Factory revamped their OREO cheesecake flavor to include a cookies and crème mousse, which makes it fancier, but I missed the original flavor. This version from Win-Sputino reminded me of the cheesecake I know and love. It's simpler, with an OREO cookie crust and creamy cheesecake that's generously studded with OREO cookie bits. Each bite was like a little taste of heaven. I got a bit of cookie in each bite and the crust was the best part. I can see why this is one of the most popular cheesecake flavors here. And, in case there isn't any OREO during your visit, you can easily find another flavor ... Win-Sputino has a ton to choose from.
"Lasagna": This is one of the best-selling entrees from Win-Sputino, and I look forward to trying it one day because I absolutely love lasagna. It features ricotta and mozzarella cheese with marinara sauce. I would probably ask how much marinara this entrée has before ordering it, since I prefer light sauce (not a ton of tomato or meat sauce), but I do want to try this entrée ... simply because it's loaded with ricotta cheese.
"Shrimp Scampi": This entrée consists of sautéed shrimp with butter, garlic and white wine sauce. The guy behind the counter recommended this entrée to me when I was trying to decide on an entrée. If I didn't love chicken piccata so much, I probably would have ordered this, simply because I love shrimp. He said this was one of the most popular entrees--right along with the piccata and lasagna--so I do want to try it at some point, especially because it seems to come with a generous portion of shrimp and garlic.
"Butterfinger Cheesecake": There are so many cheesecake flavors here; while I already tried the OREO flavor, I cannot wait to try some of the others. This is the next flavor that I really want to try. I love Butterfingers candy because of its texture and crunch. I'm interested to see how this cheesecake flavor will taste; I'm sure the creamy cheesecake will be balanced by the extra nuttiness from the Butterfingers. read more
