Prime rib with loaded baked potato
    Anna B.

Had a fantastic lunch here at noon. The whole spot is such a labor of love and testament to their family business. We tried two of their daily specials, their prime rib with chili and loaded baked potato, and a teriyaki salmon. We didn't get their potato-mac salad but we should have! The salmon was melt in your mouth divine and the perfect shoyu-sweet blend. Super 'ono au jus with the prime rib too. Also got to try their banana chocolate chip cake with cream cheese frosting, and a very tasty anko/red bean bar. The owner is so sweet and the staff are lovely and I'd be delighted to come back and try more specials and baked goodies! :)

Breakfast compliments of Max & Lucy's. (just the rice, meat and eggs)

Ok ok, I haven't gotten a chance to get their food on my own, however, my office got breakfast catered from Max & Lucy's for a couple years now. The owner, Mike, was so accommodating for our end of year office breakfast and worked with my manager on the food items. Because we like the food, I had no hesitation to offer to pick up our food to help them out since they were not sure about having an available driver. I got to Max & Lucy's around 8:15am (our order pick up was at 8:30). I ran up to the door but it was closed with a sign they were opening at 10:00 for lunch. Inside I could see Mike working hard and making pans of food which of course was my order. We got 2 pans of Fried Rice, 5 pans of scrambled eggs, 1 pan each of bacon, pineapple sausage and little smokies. They were packed perfectly in 3 large boxes which made transport easy for me. Also, they were ready precisely at 8:30 on the dot! So I realized I didn't take a photo of the pans of food, just my plate when we had our breakfast. I've had lots of breakfasts and it really is hard to get it wrong. Max & Lucy's tastes like a yummy home cooked breakfast (I mean it is) and everything was just delicious. For our office Mike makes a "bacon pack" which is 3 pieces of bacon in one so that it's easy for everyone to grab an equal amount of meat. The eggs were not runny or overdone and they taste delicious with hot sauce. I liked the way it was cooked and not too salty which can happen with eggs sometimes. Having pineapple sausage was a treat and Mike made the perfect sized cuts of sausage including some small pieces for folks that just wanted a bite. Now that I realize it's within walking distance of my workplace, I know I will take the short walk to come and get lunch. I know the portions are decent sizes and prices are reasonable. The menu looked good and I'm looking forward to more comfort food!

Is it a pie? Brownie? Bar? Whatever it is. It is delicious!

The food is always good. So don't be surprised if they sell out of stuff. It's ok since the regular items are just as good. But if you want the specials of the day, highly recommend getting there early. Service is great. Mike has a dry sense of humor, I think. But he will crack a smile. You, as a customer, gotta know that owning and running a restaurant isn't easy so don't be offended if Mike seems like he ran out of steam. He's just like us! Cashier lady is super nice. She will always try to upsell some dessert. And today, since I got my blood drawn, I got a pie/brownie/bar thing. No fancy decorations; just some kids' drawings, pictures of Max and Lucy, and that's it. It does get kinda warm inside since the kitchen is open, but there is seating outside. You pretty much walk in and queue up for food. Move down the side of the counter to the cashier to pay. After that are condiments and a water station. It's simple but works. I usually walk or bike from my office. Best to find street parking since it isn't clear who can park in the lot next door. Since this place is located near federal and circuit court, this place gets super busy during lunch. I wish they were open on weekends but pretty sure I would be the only customer.

I felt so welcome the moment I walked through the door. It was my first time in so I had no idea what to get, but the gentleman behind the counter shared the specials, one being the teriyaki salmon (Monday special). It looked delicious, and just one piece was left, so how could I not grab it? I got Mac salad as my side, today it was a tuna mac and it was delish. $15 for a flavorful plate lunch with perfectly cooked salmon and welcoming staff, can't wait to come back again to try more!

If you like lemon bar or in mood for some sweets, this is a must place to try. For $4.50 you get a generous size. It is light and really good. I also got the azuki bar. It was also light and very very good. They have lots of goodies in their small showcase. Max & Lucy also serves break fast and lunch like a cafeteria style. Nice gentleman who is the chef and server is so friendly and down to earth. He let me know that they can take orders in advance for parties. This will definitely be on my list the next office potluck event. They are next to the old Hawaii State Federal Credit Union on Halekauwila Street. If you work near by, it's worth a try and good to help out small business.

Bento; Fried rice & bacon no egg & fried chicken

Private parking lot. Open early morning, 5am. Breakfast bento is $6. Includes rice, egg, two sides. Darn good deal! House made desserts are fabulous. I ordered the chocolate chip bundt cake, lemon bundt cake, apple cake. The carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is to die for, especially right out of the freezer! (That's where I stored my piece) If you can / want to eat there, lots of seating inside and outside. If there is a line and it's your first time, ask someone how ordering works, or really pay attention to how others ahead of you are ordering as to not hold up the line when it's your turn. (Guilty!)

This place is usually a hit or miss on the food. There were times where I had the best comfort meals and there were times where the meals were overly salty which made it a little inedible to eat. What doesn't change though is the service. The owner is very cool to talk to and quite entertaining. The set up here is similar to a cafeteria where the cook makes meals in advance which is easy for selection and distribution. This makes the line move very quickly. One favored meal that I enjoy here is the fried rice for breakfast. It just brings some type of comfort to help you start your work day. Don't wait too long to order this though. Breakfast service closes by 9am and in most cases, the fried rice gets sold out fairly quickly.

It's been a while since I updated my review, and should have given a 5-star much earlier since I frequent this restaurant, especially since I was working. You take for granted certain places when you eat there a lot, but since I retired, I hardly drive to kakaako anymore, and try to eat at this place whenever I have a chance to. Compared to other restaurants in Kakaako area, you cannot beat the prices of what this restaurant offers, and it's comfort food that's satisfying in both in taste and amount. Teriyaki Salmon - 5 stars - for only $13, I always crave for their teriyaki salmon, which I have to make sure to go before noon because they sometimes sell out by then. In fact most of their salmon sells out since it is at a very cheap price for a pretty big slab of salmon. I also love their teriyaki sauce, and always ask if he could also pour some on my rice and green salad. The other two salmons are also delicious, but I am trying to avoid fried or oily foods. Chicken Cutlet - 4 stars - for $12.50 he gives a great amount of chicken, and it's with his own special gravy instead of the usual brown gravy. The Monday special chicken cutlet came with mashed potato and choice of salad. Delicious and a lot! BBq ribs - 5+ stars - for $16.50, on Wednesdays, he serves a huge slab of ribs with fall off the bone meat and broke da mouth bbq sauce. Roll me out after eating this plate lunch, and so so ono! Unfortunately, I hardly ever drive to town on Wednesdays, so I miss it a lot. No surcharge on using credit card, which is a plus, while some other restaurants are recently adding to the bill. Good place to meet my friends that work in town because he has regular tables inside as well as 3 long picnic tables outside. I was surprised he was still busy even on a federal holiday. However, it's hard to find parking, and you can't park at the credit union unless you are a customer there. Service - he and his staff are always friendly and hospitable as usual. He also has a page on facebook to inform when he is closing for the week or certain personal events he is celebrating. Definitely will go always eat here again, like I usually do, at least once a month or two now that I don't drive into town very much anymore.

Max and Lucy's has become my go to place for lunch - period! Their food is always delicious, if they've sold out (except for a couple of pieces of this and that) Mike will throw a mixed plate together. The other upside is that there is always desert left. You cannot go wrong on any of their sweet delicacies. If you're planning to check them out, go early because they always sell out, simply because their food is so good.

I had some fasting labs this morning at Ala Moana and also needed to be at the federal building downtown for some business. I parked and was looking for a place that was open and within walking distance. I asked a few people walking and Max & Lucy's was clearly the place and they actually opened up at 5 am! That's great!! I was eager to give this place a try! There was one customer already eating when I walked in. As I was ordering and having my food cooked a handful of more customers walked in. They became busy real quick! It's a small diner with lots of tables and has a good feel to it. I was immediately greeted and he let me know what my options were and I picked fried rice and fresh omelet! It was loaded with veggies! The gentleman was so friendly and I'll be back with friends for sure!

I've come her numerous times but always forget to write a review. If you are lookinging for a quick bite for lunch with different choices including salads, plate lunches, and comfort food, this is your spot. Mike, the owner and his employees are always so friendly. Mike works the main counter by himself and there is usually one other person working rhe register. He makes really good food. My favorite dishes are the teriyaki salmon, fried chicken, steak plate, and the prime rib on Thursdays. In the plates, you can white or brown rice and mac salad or toss sald which is a great option for those that want a healthy alternative. He has different daily specials and also daily items available. You can't go wrong because there are always different things. You do have to go early when there are dishes that you like because they sell usually sell out by 1pm. Mike also has baked good which are phenomenal. I love the lemon bars and the blueberry muffins with cream cheese. He offers seating inside and some outside as well as it can get crowded during the lunch rush. You do have to go early when there are dishes that you like because they sell usually sell out by 1pm. If you haven't tried it here, you definelty should and try differnt things even rhe desserts. I have my favorites but I'm sure others have other favorites as well. Food and Desserts are delicious and prices are not so bad.

The Good: * This place is along my walk to work in the morning. They have good deals of just that quick yummy breakfasts you crave for! * Good service, the gentle man who works here, maybe he's the actual Max of Max & Lucy's he's so kind and makes my day every time. I'm always happy to support ma and pa shops * Can't argue with the price point. We need more places like this! The Bad: * Nothing bad at all! They even have yummy pastries The Weird: * Don't get me wrong, I love weird!
