Sunday April 19, late lunch. You will be missed! We were fortunate to have lunch for the last time at Mariposa at Neiman Marcus in Ala Moana. The food was incredible as it always has been in the past years. I live for the Consommé and Pop Overs. I got my favorite Cold Crab Salad as well as Grilled Hokkaido Scallops. My lunch date got French Fries and Braised Short Ribs. We are all so very sad to see them close. Thank you for the many special lunches, dinners, and private functions I have attended over the years. It's a shame that they're closing soon, and it's also a shame that I didn't decide to come check out this place until when I found out about their closing! At least, I got to try their famous complimentary soufflé bread and their whipped guava butter. Also got to try their chilled crab salad which was super delicious! I ate the whole thing quick. Got to try my friend's laksa and the taste was good too! Our server was very friendly and answered a lot of our questions. The ambiance was amazing too. Sad to report that after two consecutive visits to Mariposa on 3/19/26 and 3/20/26, the food quality and some of its services have spiraled down. To be fair, media outlets have reported that Mariposa together with Neiman Marcus will close soon. I am unaware of any specific date of closure. We asked our servers and they informed us that they were not given a date yet. We wanted to have our farewell lunches here and my friend and family decided on back to back dates. I was eager to enjoy another dining experience at Mariposa. I have fond memories of enjoying meals with my late mom and friends at Mariposa. While service on 3/19/26 was excellent and just like what I remember in the past, service on 3/20/26, fell below as it appeared the restaurant was understaffed. There were issues with our meals on both dates. For the first time on 3/19/26 and then on 3/20/26, we were served burnt popovers. The guava butter didn't have its usual flavor as well. The Wagyu burger I ordered to be cooked medium was burnt and definitely well-well done. It was difficult to eat and I couldn't finish it. The side salad was delicious. The side of fries were perfectly seasoned and tasty. The second day, I only ordered the seasoned fries. Cooked perfectly, however, the seasoning was on the heavy side. My family's meals of the scallops with polenta and crab pasta were both underwhelming. Both were bland and without much flavor. The crab pasta had an unexpected red chili pepper after taste. No one finished their meals. I was offered tastes of each dish. The second day, a family member noticed that the cloth napkin she was provided was torn all the way down on the side seam. Our popover server for the second day, informed us that all the popovers that day were coming out dark brown. This is the first time I chose not to have any more popovers after trying the first one! I guess things must be difficult at this time. I wonder if all the chefs have secured jobs elsewhere. Just be forewarned that your experience here may not be the same as before. read more

So sad to hear one of my favorite restaurants Mariposa will be closing end of May. I have to go few more times before they're closing. Made reservation on Sunday brunch. Requested outdoor seating. Restaurant look very clean and bright. Once we sat down, our server Kyle came to greet us. Overall service was excellent. 1. Consommé - alway my favorite. Free refill. 2. Bread with strawberry butter - the bread was very airy and crispy, the strawberry butter was just right, not over sweetened. 3. Laksa curry - the best laksa on the island, lots of ingredients included clams, ahi filet, prawns, eggplants, scallops. It came with rice. Delicious. 4. Crab pasta - the portion was big with lots of crab meat. The sauce was very creamy. Delicious. 5. Wagyu Cheeseburger - the party was juicy and cooked perfectly. The fries were so crunchy and flavorful. They also included salad as well. 6. Clam chowder - very creamy and delicious. Mariposa will be missed. It is unfortunate the restaurant is closing (end of May along with the retail store). So normally I wouldn't go to a restaurant that is about to close because I know the space will be crowded and staffing and resources will be strained. But my friend had made a reservation a month ago, invited me to join at the last minute, we went for dinner last night. We arrived a little early for our reservation. Out front, there was plenty of parking. Inside, the space was clean, the ambiance was lovely, and a live musician was performing. We were seated outside on the lanai and enjoyed the view at twilight. The weather was perfect especially considering there could've been a full storm. The service we received throughout the evening from our waiter and the other staff who served and greeted us was all top-notch. Kudos to their professionalism, each one appearing fresh as daisy and treating us kindly, pleasantly, and patiently even though our seating was at closing time and the restaurant was still quite busy. I stared with a pineapple cocktail which I enjoyed for its refreshing sweetness. For dinner, I had the spinach salad and substituted a portion of salmon for the standard pipikaula. It was a meal-sized portion, I enjoyed the quality and balance of ingredients, the excellent vinaigrette, and the delicious creaminess of the goat cheese. If you've never been to Mariposa or it's been a long while, I wouldn't recommend going now, it's just not going to be the same. Instead, go to a newly opened restaurant, they need your business. But if you are nostalgic for Mariposa, it may be worth trying to go one last time although my understanding is they are not taking reservations, and I don't know if they are even taking walk-ins although the staff are super nice so maybe they will seat you if you ask nicely and explain why you want to eat there. read more

I heard Neiman Marcus was closing so I took it as an opportunity to eat at their associated restaurant, Mariposa! It's located on the 3rd floor. You can either enter from inside the mall or from the parking structure and take an elevator up. The interior was so cute, I loved the ceiling fans and the balcony views of the beach. We started with complimentary bread and butter. The bread was fluffy and perfectly flaky, but the star was the butter. It had a hint of sweetness! Our main entrees were the Chicken Paillard Milanese & Shrimp Puttanesca. The chicken was very crispy & juicy, the arugula salad added a nice fresh component, and the savory tomato sauce brought it all together. As for the pasta, the noodles were cooked perfectly and the shrimps were HUGE. Both very good portions to share. For dessert they gave us a cookie box for my friend's birthday. Attended the Neiman Marcus Mariposa Christmas breakfast. It was really cute and featured all of the well-known Christmas songs. Dancing was lively. The server was courteous and quick to bring me coffee that I needed since it was a morning event on Saturday. A delicious French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and pastry breakfast was served. Mariposa is a lovely restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit indoors because it was kinda windy. Their service is top notch! Waters were constantly filled, the complimentary popovers were delicious and our sever was very friendly. I had the roast beef sandwich with fries for an additional $5. The roast beef was okay, nothing really spectacular about it, kinda on the bland side but the arugula, tomatoes, cheese and chimichurri added flavor to the sandwich. It's a pricey restaurant, about $30-40 a head for lunch. I don't know if they have a dinner menu. It was a nice place to reconnect with good friends. I would definitely go again! read more

Looking for a place with great customer service, good food and a view? Then checkout Mariposa located in Neiman Marcus at the Ala Moana Shopping Center. It's not a "cheap eat" place but worth it if service, food and ambiance matters to you. You start off with complimentary consomme and popovers with whipped strawberry butter. Mariposa has always been a favorite place to meet up with friends and business contacts over the years. I feel bad to give my last experience only 3 stars and as I know the F&B industry in the islands are having a difficult time, particularly with labor shortages. We were celebrating some birthdays with a small group of 10 for dinner. Our table was ready and set up and our server was pleasant and quick to greet us and take our order. First, I was very disappointed with the limited menu that was offered. Some of the great salmon dishes were not offered and the server said it was due to the limited labor they had. Some of us had to really order something we did not really feel like eating. Knowing that they would not be featuring some of my favorite items at times would discourage me from returning soon. Second, one of our party members had to ask for a beverage 3 times and it was only after we flagged down the server and "joked" with him if we had to "beg" to get a drink. Again, he was very pleasant and helpful so we did not want to outright complain. Overall the food was well prepared and good although it did take long for to get everyone served. So sad that they're closing. Came here for lunch for one last time as Neiman Marcus at Ala Moana is closing. Mariposa is a great middle ground between casual and fine dining. The food and interior are high end but the atmosphere is casual and being that this is Hawaii the dress code is pretty lax. If you get seating outside or by the window you can have a nice view of Ala Moana beach. To start, always the popovers. They are so crisp yet light and fluffy. I will miss those. This time we shared the crab salad which I wish had a bit more flavor either from the crab or dressing but was refreshing. I had the short ribs which were so tender I didn't need a knife. The food was very rich. The portions are also pretty decent and we all had leftovers for dinner. Sorry to see you go. read more

Admission Day luncheon with my brother-in-law and wife. We entered fron the elevator street entrance . We didn't notice the small sign that said to go to the front entrance. A wait person flag my wife and pointed to the front entrance. We had arrived a few minutes early from our reservation time. After my wife checked us in we did have to wait a few minutes past our reservation time . We were seat on the lanai area. You get a great view of the Ala Moana/Waikiki area. Found out mariposa is closing and had to make sure to get the popover one more time! Made reservations online and sat outside on the balcony. Despite the weather the view was super nice and my boyfriend and I had a nice dinner. Unfortunately the night we went there was no fish of the day and their blender was down so it changed our original planned orders. I ended up ordering the penne and my boyfriend had the wagyu burger. We also had the corn chowder and pork with scallops as a starter. Food and service were all great! Pasta was slightly on the spicy side but flavored well. We were originally going to go to Ruscello but they were still closed for renovations. The wait was going to be 30 mins for a table but there were bar seats available so we opted for that instead. The bartender who was also our server was great and very attentive. They give you complimentary popovers to start which came with guava butter and a broth. Haven't been here for years so when someone suggested this place for our quarterly luncheon, I was all for it. I looked over the menu and pics on Yelp a month before our get together and knew what I wanted to order. Since our reservation was when Mariposa opened for lunch, we got our table right away. After we gave our server our order, they brought over the complimentary popover with whipped butter and a broth. Both were really tasty! They asked if we wanted more popovers...we all said yes but they only brought one. We were going to ask our waiter for another 3 but he never came back. Instead, our food was brought over by a couple of servers so we never asked. My friend and I ordered the Pan Roasted Scallops with truffle mashed potato and two other friends ordered the Wagyu Cheeseburger, add $5 more for fries. Some of us ordered the Kahuku Corn Chowder bowl: - There were only 6 small scallops. Pics I saw on Yelp had 5 but they looked like jumbo scallops so that was the reason why I ordered this...very disappointing. This dish was tasty but thought it was overpriced for $38. For me, I wouldn't order this again. - The bowl of corn chowder had more of a soup consistency and not thick like a chowder, lacked corn and the croutons were a little salty. - As for the Wagyu burger, one ordered it as well done and thought it was dry...said she should've ordered it as medium-well. The other ordered it as medium and thought it was a little too red. Both said it tasted like a regular hamburger...couldn't tell it was made with a better grade of hamburger. I was disappointed with the food and service from this casual upscale restaurant. The food was served in a timely matter and they made sure our water was filled but our waiter was nowhere to be seen. I used to come to Mariposa often back when my best friend worked here, and I'm happy to say the quality of the food hasn't changed a bit! My friend recently brought me back, and I really enjoyed the whole experience. The staff is mostly on the younger side--service was a little on the slower end, but they were friendly and definitely trying their best, which I appreciated. I usually go for the lobster club sammy (a classic!), but this time I decided to switch it up and ordered the salmon ochazuke. And wow--absolutely the best I've had in a long time. A long-time friend and vendor invited three of us to join him for lunch at Mariposa. We've met here many times in the past and will continue to do so as it's a great location for a casual or business lunch. The place was packed with patrons and as a result, service was very leisurely. Lucky for us, we didn't have any appointments back at the office. Three of us had iced tea ($6) while the fourth was satisfied with water. First up, the "to die for" popovers and seasoned butter. One ordered the Kahuku Corn Chowder ($12), Crab Pasta ($36), Kona Coffee sorbet ($8) and a Cappuccino ($7). Another had the Lobster Club (MP) and the Macadamia pie ($12). I ordered the Mariposa Chopped Salad ($26) with grilled chicken ($8 surcharge) and coffee ($6). Our host had the Crab and Shrimp Louie ($42), Kona Coffee Sorbet ($8) and coffee ($6). The long wait for our food left us plenty of time to discuss business and the time went by quickly. Our food was visual and taste treats. We noted some changes ... the Lobster Club was served on toasted "Japanese" bread. My chopped salad came with an interesting and eclectic mix of fruits cut into cubes. It included dragon fruit, watermelon, and either honeydew melon or mango. It was hard for me to tell because the creamy sesame vinaigrette salad dressing masked the taste of the individual ingredients to a degree. I really enjoyed my salad; I could have left off the chicken as it was superfluous. Service was fine, although much slower than on past visits. Everything here was amazing! This is the kind of lunch spot you take friends to and are excited to share this experience with them!! The ambiance was very open and elegant. The open lanai seating brought some natural breeze into the restaurant and it was very well lit. Our server was very knowledgeable and very patient as we had a talkative party that was catching up as we didn't see each other for a long time. She was very quick to clear dishes off our table and keep our drinks filled. You start with a cup of chicken broth? Or soup? I forgot but it was amazing and it served as an aperitif. Then the bread service was very unique with a bread I've never tried. It was crispy on the outside but airy and doughy on the inside with a subtle sweetness like bread pudding almost. I thought it was alright but everyone else loved it. We shared everything and the food was a hit. We loved the corn chowder!! We loved the hurricane fries! My friend recommended that we get a table outside and while I did love the view, there wasn't very much wind, so it was kind of hot compared to the interior of the restaurant. Right away, we were provided with complementary bone broth and a biscuit with butter and the bone broth was actually so unexpectedly delicious!! I did also enjoy the biscuit with butter, but probably did not need to eat that because it wasn't very flavorful and basically just empty carbs lol I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and while it was pretty good, it was so so oily, literally just dripping oil all over the plate and my hands! So for that reason, I would not recommend this dish. My friend ordered the salad, but they were out of ahi so she subbed the ahi with salmon and also added edamame, and I tried a little bit of her salad, and the salmon was cooked so perfectly and yeah, I just really liked her dish a lot better than mine. Service was great and yeah, I would go back! Oh and I noticed a couple people in front of me wanted to eat here but (it was 2:30) they are not taking anyone without a reservation. I took my hubby here for his birthday in November. I loved it so much that we came for Valentine's Day. Luckily, we had reservations for lunch as they were packed solid. I wanted to do dinner, but they had a special pre fixe menu that didn't offer the laksa curry that I wanted. I could only get it during lunch, so here we are. The popovers with the strawberry butter are just divine. I had two, lol. We shared a bowl of the corn chowder $11 and it was delicious. I got the seafood laksa curry $38 and the hubby got the wagyu cheeseburger $24 with fries $5. The curry was great as usual. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't use the big manila clams like last time and used the small clams instead. The hubby said that the burger was just ok. He actually didn't finish it. First of all: everyone should be aware that they are NOT taking Neiman Marcus gift cards because of the upcoming closure! Even though the restaurant and store are still open (though the store has very limited inventory and are selling mainly their furniture and fixtures) the Honolulu store and Mariposa are not honoring gift cards! I wish they had advertised this on their website and/or in the store but there was no public notice of this. We just found out at the end of our meal when we tried to use a gift card to pay. The waiter said they stopped taking gift cards abruptly a few weeks ago. He said even the staff were caught off guard and many of them still have gift cards as well! I never heard of a store/restaurant that is still open not accepting gift cards that they issued! The waiter said you can still use the GC online or on the mainland but that didn't help us as the primary reason we went was to use the gift card! Second thing you should know is that they are no longer taking new reservations. They do take some walk-ins but it is limited to bar seating (which seats 7 and one high top that can fit 5 or 6). So get there early and be prepared to wait unless you have a prior reservation. The food itself was okay. Nothing spectacular but decent and the wait staff were all nice and friendly. So if you wanted to go to try to use us your gift cards, don't bother! read more
