Takeout lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... Irene had the brilliant idea to visit the food trucks at the former location of Fisherman's Wharf. It's now called The Street Food Market. Located at the end of Ward Avenue, next to the ocean, along Ala Moana Boulevard, there's a bunch of food trucks. The Elephant Shack is one of them. The Elephant Shack specializes in Thai cuisine. Order and pay on the tablet. Wait at the table with the "pick up here" sign for your meal. It's quite an efficient process! Service was helpful and polite. As I was ordering, I asked the guy at the window about the spice level. He said that "mild" is not spicy. Okay... I will have to trust you... When I picked up my order, the gal was cheerful and attentive! We just grabbed our meals and ate elsewhere, so we parked for free. If you stay and dine there, scan the QR code and pay for parking online. My Pad Kee Mao was delicious! I liked the fresh basil, broccoli, and pieces of long green beans. The tofu was Stir-fried well - almost crispy. The noodles were tasty and chewy! I would return and try more menu items!

One of my go to take out places for fast and good Thai food. I've had the pad Thai, pad see ew, and Penang curry. This last visit we ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Chicken Penang Curry, and Thai Iced tea. Food was great and we had some leftovers. My boyfriend got the medium spice level for the Pad Thai and it was actually pretty spicy. Curry is made with coconut and slightly on the sweeter side but very tasty! Thai iced tea is also made with coconut milk so keep that in mind if you don't like coconut. You order on the tablet in the front and pay through it too. You don't really talk to the workers unless you have any questions they are mostly busy cooking. Once your order if ready someone comes out with it and calls your name. You also grab your own utensils at the front. Lots of seating outside, some with covered umbrellas. Well lit and music on speakers playing. Also lots of parking- free for the first hour or two if supporting the food trucks.

Came to this food truck area on our last night in Oahu and decided to stop by the Elephant Food shack as it appeared to be the only one open at night. Food is cooked fresh which is great but also meant we were waiting a long time for 1 order of Pad See Ew. Sat there for about 40 minutes until our order was next up. Super friendly lady runs the food out to you. Price is a bit much for the portions, the noodles were fantastic but there wasn't much broccoli or chicken in our order. We've ate at the food trucks in Oahu before and they pack the containers for the price you pay. Generally wouldn't come back unless you're really really crazing some pad Thai. The vibe was great though, it was night, quiet and by the water.

Loved their Pad Thai. I chose Mild (rather sweet I thought) with chicken. Chicken were a little bit dry but still we enjoyed them with other ingredients. It is so nice to eat Thai food looking over Kewalo. Thanks for a good lunch!

    Veggie pad Kee Mao

Tried this place yet again since i was right by this place for lunch, ordered a veggie pad Kee Mao, medium heat, the taste was awesome but the cook forgot to add the medium heat which is disappointing because i like some heat in my food. Not sure why i keep coming back to eat at this place. I wish they were consistent because when they get it right, it's my favorite place to eat pad Kee Mao but it's been disappointing

We happened to drive by on our way to get food and we decided to take a detour here to try something new. Everything on the menu looked amazing and I couldn't decide what to order so I asked the chef. He recommended the Yum Nua so I ordered that. The flavor was amazing! The dish has a little kick to it and the mint gives it a great flavor. I didn't think I would like eating mint but again I was pleasantly surprised with the composition of flavors. Everything tasted amazing. They also have a spacious patio seating area with lights at night. It made a lovely impromptu day night for us even though that wasn't our original plan. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic! Amazing food, great service, and great views. They have a plenty of options for everyone. Pretty much every dish comes with your choice of protein so I had lots of vegetarian options. I got the tofu fried rice and the papaya salad. Both were phenomenal. Great flavor and the spice was just right too. It's right in the harbor on the water so you get water front views for food truck prices. Highly recommend!

Best everything! Friendly service and food was exceptional! Pad Thai was my fav along with the Thai basil friend rice with shrimp! We tried it all!

After we discovered this night market, the same location as the Saturday morning Farmer's Market, we've come here 3 times. The Kapow Chicken, Thai Iced Tea (made with Coconut Water), and the Pad See Ew (which flat noods) are my favorite. It's piping hot, made to order, with so much wok heat smoking delicious. Per the chef's recommendation, I added an extra fried egg on the kapow and it took it to the next level. Wow! I'll be craving this place! Also, on Friday nights, you can see the fireworks show from Hilton Hawaiian across the Marina.

Pad thai: canmt go wrong with pad thai, it was delicious. Papaya salad: my first time trying this, it was mostly the green strings which my dad said was young papaya. It tastes like what green fruits would taste like, that unripe after taste is eh. It was crunchy, not that sweet but juicy. Not a fan Extra Nice area, lots of tables and chairs and lighting was beautiful Came in for harbor night market, there was none The chef came out, found our table and asked us about how we'd like our peanuts. (Even though it was on the order). I then ran back to him and asked to put the peanuts on the side 4/5

    Val H.

We ordered the Thai Tea drinks on the menu pad. The service was quick and the teas were delicious and sweet. The food truck and the surrounding table seatings presented a relaxing vibe! Next time we plan on trying some food items on the menu.

Their restaurant is so cool tho. Upon walking in, you sign in if needed, wait to be seated. As you walk in, there's a pretty decor, I would say photo opp, but there's a table and stuff blocking. They should clear that area, so people can take pictures with it lol but when you get seated, you walk through, and they take you to the back for outdoor seating. There is no indoor seating. They have the commercial tents, and pretty outdoor decor out there too, like lights and stuff. And there's a koi pond. Bathroom is back there. The only sucky part is if it was to rain hard or have strong winds, I wonder how they deal with that. But make sure you go when it's nice weather. It's BYOB!! They have a good amount of seating too. Our go to for Olay's is the Lao style papaya salad. We eat it with chicharon, and I think they have option to order a side chicharon, but we were prepared and went store before heading over to buy bag chicharon and they allowed it for us instead of spending the same amount for a handful, you get more when you BYOBC - bring your own bag chicharon lol I just made that up. If it's BYOB, I'm sure they'll allow it. We eat that with sticky rice. Omg so bomb. I like to get the stuffed chicken wings, we ordered the calamari. Was good. We got yellow chicken curry. The wife wanted to try the beef jerky, she likes it. We take the sticky rice and roll it in to a ball, and dip it in the bagooong papaya salad sauce and even the curry. Eat it with the papaya salad and stuffed chicken!! Omg so good! One thing I forgot to mention, they are located in the heart of Chinatown, on hotel street, so you gotta find parking. Street parking or pay for public parking. Would we come here again, definitely! 10/10 recommend. Check out Olay's for your Lao food fix!

The beef was tender, and the heat level was just right (spicy but still balanced). So good over rice. The chicken panang curry was rich, creamy, and comforting. The curry sauce had that slightly sweet, nutty depth with just the right amount of spice. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was honestly spoon-worthy. We also ordered the summer rolls, which were fresh and light -- packed with crisp veggies and herbs. Dipped in peanut sauce, they were the perfect refreshing starter before the richer dishes. And Peter was a great waiter -- friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. Service definitely elevated the experience. Everything tasted fresh and well-executed. This, however, will probably be my first and last visit. The place is cute enough, with a large back garden area where I chose to dine. Service was also great. I appreciate the little button at the table that I could click for service. The food, however, was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered the pad Thai with tofu, ginger chicken, chicken satay, and pork larb. The pad Thai was the best dish, but it was very tomatoey, which I did not expect. The chicken with ginger had very little chicken. It was mostly julienned vegetables, including celery which I do not care for. The chicken satay was kinda dry and most certainly needed the peanut sauce to make it palatable. The larb was very dry with very bland flavor, served on one lettuce leaf and a wedge of cabbage. How am I supposed to eat that? All of it was quite disappointing, especially for the price point. As I was eating this meal I remembered the Thai food truck at the end of Ward, where Fisherman's Pier used to be. Now THAT was some good Thai food. I guess that was the best thing about this meal-remembering where I could get really good Thai food-so that the next time I'm having a craving, I can go back over there...I hope it's still there.

We caught it right away and asked about it, and she said she had already included a tip in the total, without ever asking us. We never told her how much we wanted to tip, so it felt pretty shady that she just added one on her own and then still gave us the option to tip again. If we hadn't been paying attention and just tapped a tip option, we would've ended up overpaying. What's weird is that we had eaten here just a couple days earlier and everything was normal. The total matched, and we tipped on our own. No one added anything extra without asking. If this had been our first time, we probably would've assumed gratuity was automatically included and not thought twice about it. When we brought that up, the waitress suddenly acted like she didn't understand us, even though she had been communicating perfectly fine before. She walked away and got another staff member, who told us tipping is optional and then in a rude tone, asked, "So what do you want to do?" We still tipped in the end because we know service jobs aren't easy, but the whole situation just felt icky. Like how could you try to scam your own customers? Definitely left a bad impression, and it looks like others have had similar experiences if you look at the 1& 2 stars reviews. Makes me wonder how many people this has happened to without knowing.
