My friend recommended that we get a table outside and while I did love the view, there wasn't very much wind, so it was kind of hot compared to the interior of the restaurant. Right away, we were provided with complementary bone broth and a biscuit with butter and the bone broth was actually so unexpectedly delicious!! I did also enjoy the biscuit with butter, but probably did not need to eat that because it wasn't very flavorful and basically just empty carbs lol I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and while it was pretty good, it was so so oily, literally just dripping oil all over the plate and my hands! So for that reason, I would not recommend this dish. My friend ordered the salad, but they were out of ahi so she subbed the ahi with salmon and also added edamame, and I tried a little bit of her salad, and the salmon was cooked so perfectly and yeah, I just really liked her dish a lot better than mine. Service was great and yeah, I would go back! Oh and I noticed a couple people in front of me wanted to eat here but (it was 2:30) they are not taking anyone without a reservation. While visiting Hawaii my wife and I decided to try this place based on all the previous suggestions and the views. Upon walking in we were immediately greeted and told us it would be a short wait and it was. The decor was beautiful and there was a live musician playing the acoustic guitar on the side which gave the place a very relaxing vibe. We were lucky enough to get a balcony table. I'd suggest this so you can have a spectacular view of the ocean and the sunset. My wife and enjoyed the warm bread brought to the table served with this delicious strawberry butter. It wasn't very heavy either. The drinks were really good as well. Our server (actually all of them) Tony was extremely good. He came and checked on us and made sure everything was good with us. I took my hubby here for his birthday in November. I loved it so much that we came for Valentine's Day. Luckily, we had reservations for lunch as they were packed solid. I wanted to do dinner, but they had a special pre fixe menu that didn't offer the laksa curry that I wanted. I could only get it during lunch, so here we are. The popovers with the strawberry butter are just divine. I had two, lol. We shared a bowl of the corn chowder $11 and it was delicious. I got the seafood laksa curry $38 and the hubby got the wagyu cheeseburger $24 with fries $5. The curry was great as usual. I got there before my friend, so I ordered a Ceaser salad first. It came out promptly and I started eating it because I was hungry. My friend came and she ordered the Seafood Curry. I ordered the Smash Burger with fries and a salad. My burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were crisp and delicious. The salad was also good. I tried some of my friend's Thai curry and a shrimp, they were delicious, too. Our server, Tony, was very attentive and our water was always filled by him or the other staff. My friend wanted a mocha and Tony came back with a "test" mocha to make sure it was what she wanted. Then he went and got the exact style she wanted. We sat outside and had a lovely view. I love coming here, especially and primarily for girl time! First of all, the restaurant feels like a breezy oasis away from the heat and crowds gathered at the mall (especially with the gorgeous view). I like to eat indoors right next to the lanai, though, since it can get hot out there, especially during the summer. The food here is solid, especially if you know what menu items you like. I love the chicken consommé that starts every meal. It's so comforting! I also like the popovers (they are famous for a reason) - but, unpopular opinion, I love the consommé more. Weird, I know. For the main course, I really love the laksa curry and the grilled ahi sandwich. Their fries are also really addicting. I feel like the menu items here are quite generous in portion size, and I've always had a little doggie bag to take home each time. Lastly, the service has always been great for me. I love the lunch at Mariposa because the service is great, the view of Ala Moana Beach is awesome, and they served warm popovers! I think the popovers are always a treat and are devoured quickly upon receiving one. Hence no pictures of the huge delight. It has been a while since I went for lunch and there were some definite hits and a few missteps. The 6 of us went to celebrate my brother's birthday which I mentioned on my Open Table reservation, but nothing was mentioned when we checked in, and I figured we would get at least a "Happy Birthday," when we were seated, but nope. The menu selections looked great and a couple of us got the Crab Pasta which was delicious and filled with crab. The rest of us got handheld items of Wagyu Cheeseburgers, a roast beef sandwich and a Lobster sandwich. The lobster sandwich was great served with avocado, but the other two sandwiches were a little underwhelming. We asked for the burgers to be medium cooked and both were more than well cooked and the roast beef sandwich was OK. Just stick with the entrees and you will be fine. Parking is ample if you can make your way through the maze of the upper parking lot of Ala Moana, and a separate elevator on the oceanside of Neiman Marcus takes you right into the restaurant. Drove up the Ramp on the Ocean side thats by Mortons, drove to the right past entrance for Neiman Marcus and parked right in front of the elevator that will take you right up to mariposa. I took a friend for lunch at the Mariposa restaurant today. When the waiter brought the check, I told him I would be using a Nieman Marcus gift card. He apologized and said they are no longer honoring any gift cards even if the store and restaurant closure isn't until sometime in May! I don't understand why. I'm thinking that's not correct! In the end, we decided we will never go there again for dinner. Ordered the Wagyu burger with french fries....Cooked well done and hard as a rock. The French fries had obviously been sitting in the back for a while because they were hard too and not crispy or fresh. We also had the spicy chicken sandwich which was tasteless. The salad was super tiny. It's just become so incredibly hard to pay premium prices and get bad food. We had to ask for the popover bread (they forgot to bring it). It's half the size it used to be. Perhaps it was a bad day because I remember the service being better in the past. My party was seated against the windowed wall and the sun was quite hot. They also did not listen to the request to split the check. On top of that, we needed to ask for another pop over and one of the people had their order forgotten. Occasionally we inquired about the menu, but the staff would just walk away. The food was so-so. Their dessert and soup were wonderful, but the main dish I had that comprised of chicken and couscous fell flat. Very little couscous and the tomato sauce that went with it was overpowering. This is our go-to spot for work parties and functions. The staff is so friendly and accommodating! We usually call ahead of time to make a reservation and get everyone's food orders. We usually have everyone Venmo one person so at the end of the party only one person is having to pay and they don't need to split the check. I'm not sure if these are standard selections, but we usually choose the Salmon Ochazuke and Kiawe Smoked Pork Chops and our entree selections. Your meal comes with Mariposa's signature Popover with Strawberry Jam and Chicken Broth as your starter, then your entree selection. So 1st off we needed to check in the front podium even though we enter through the back elevator. And Even though they had a podium to check guests in also. I made reservations for 11:15am and the hostess said okay somebody will be with you. We waited about 5 mins or so before we got seated. Sat outside good thing it wasn't humid or hot yet. They came with menus, water and their famous popover with flavored butter. I ordered crab and shrimp Louie, my hubby ordered lobster club, and my brother had their wagyu hamburger sandwich with reg fries. The portion was enough for me the salad, the lobster club was good. He prefer just plain lobster salad with only mayo and butter. The bacon in the sandwich was good tho he didn't care for the red bell peppers in the sandwich. My brother said he's burger was good. I've been to Mariposa many times throughout the years mostly with friends, co-workers, for lunch gatherings, retirement celebration, baby shower, and birthdays but with the other half maybe a total of 3 times. Our work schedule does not work out and sometimes I feel bad if I dine there without him. This Mariposa review is for my most recent visit, my lunch date with the other half. As I was looking back at Facebook memory photos of our last Mariposa lunch, which was close to 10 years ago, I text the other half and we set a date so we could both request off, officially its a date! hehe. I called to make reservations on the day of our lunch date and luckily we got a last minute reservation. I remembered a spontaneous visit to Mariposa, the way for table was over hour which we couldn't wait. They close for lunch so last call is close to after 2:30 pm. Our favorite table is outdoor, love the outdoor view Ala Moana Beach. It could get hot but it was fine by me. The inside seems more loud and has more food traffic. My favorite and I am sure everyone's favorite is the Popover! & I can eat more than one! I really need a popover fix once in a while. This is the one reason I miss Mariposa so much. Besides the popover, I always. Always order the lobster LBT sandwich, ( @marketprice) and corn chowder. I always want to try the other menu items but I can't give up on the lobster BLT sandwich. * lobster sandwich is not available during Sunset hour & dinner. I saw an Instagram post for the pork chops which I really want to give it a try next time, I will have to do a back to back visit, hehe. During this recent lunch date, We got our usual order: corn chowder, lobster BLT, macadamia pie and their signature plantation iced tea. The corn chowder is tasty and they use Kahuku corn. The BLT, loved how serve the lobster chilled with the good stuff, bacon, avocado, roasted pepper, on a sweet bread. Biting in to that sandwich was OMG, wow! I love the plain fries! First time we tried the macadamia nut pie and brought back memories of Angelo Pietro days. Loved the crispy crust and macadamia nut, love that it wasn't as sweet. I really enjoyed the plantation iced tea, don't forget to order it with a shot of vodka on the side. My favorite Mai Tai drink! Besides pigging out on the popovers & our meal, We were super stuffed! I was sitting at the bar. The scallops were excellent -- perfectly cooked and flavorful -- but the service left much to be desired. The complimentary broth was not offered until I asked, and later my plate was cleared while I was still eating, giving me no opportunity to finish. When I mentioned this, the situation was not addressed. In a restaurant of this caliber, attentiveness and simple courtesy should be standard. This review is specifically for the Santa Brunch held at the Neiman Marcus restaurant. I wanted to share my experience, so other parents know exactly what to expect. I actually attended last year but completely forgot until I got an email saying, "Now accepting reservations!" -- which reminded me that I really should write this review to help others out. The brunch starts bright and early at 8:30 a.m. (which honestly isn't bad, since parents don't sleep anyway). It's $70 per person, and kids under 3 eat free. Here's what's included in the prix-fixe menu: Tables set with breakfast pastries Brioche French toast with whipped cream, fresh berries, and Vermont maple syrup Scrambled eggs with herbed crème fraiche (kids can get them plain) Smoked bacon and breakfast sausage Crispy breakfast potatoes Coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice, apple juice, and milk for the kids Now, I know -- $70 sounds crazy, and yes, it is. But it's Neiman Marcus, and they can get away with it. Surprisingly, the price wasn't the main issue for me. My main complaint is the musical performance that happens during the brunch. I didn't realize it was part of the event (my fault for not checking), but it ended up being very long and very loud. It honestly felt like most of the audience was made up of parents of the kids performing, which made the whole thing feel less like a brunch and more like sitting through a dance school recital. And finally -- a quick note on the crowd. We got stuck in the elevator with a few adults who made jerk comments about people having "so many kids." For the record, that "so many kids" was two of mine plus my friend's one -- a total of three children in the elevator -- at a Santa Brunch that they attended. In short: the food is fine, the price is high (as expected), but the experience isn't quite what I anticipated. If you're going for a calm, festive brunch with Santa, be prepared -- it's more of a loud musical event than a peaceful holiday meal. Lastly, at the very end of brunch is a race to get a quick photo with Santa. They set him up near the plates/glassware so now you have to stand in line, pray your kids don't break anything and then quickly take a photo in hopes your kid doesn't melt down seeing Santa. Let me tell you the lunch started out poorly, but the manager Bruce did make up for it and turned it around! Firstly, my girlfriend and my drinks came out first and the birthday girl's did not. Our meals came out but birthday girl's did not. When it did it was wrong then took a long time. I had the Vietnamese, rare beef salad. My girlfriend had the salmon salad, and birthday girl had the duck special. We all did like our meals. Manager Bruce comped birthday girl's meal and gave us complementary desserts. I come here once a year on vacation and is always a treat to eat there. As a solo diner the staff was very accommodating. I ordered a Mai Tai and Spaghetti with lobster in a tomato based sauce. Server let me know the sauce was on the spicy side which I appreciated. I'm not a spice person so the server asked the chef to make it without spice. Entree came out beautifully and was delicious! The signature Pop Over with Strawberry butter was always a welcome treat! The only disappointment was Parmesan cheese was not offered with my pasta and the Consommé was a no show. Bummer! Ambiance had a nice island vibe and I would describe as casual elegance. Lots of staff from start to finish and someone always checking on me throughout my dinner service.
