Been here before but first time since covid. The menu has changed completely and the prices have gone up. I used to get their pasta with goat cheese all the time but now it's not there. The popovers are consistently delicious though with their strawberry fluffly butter. The restaurant has indoor and Lana is seating facing the ocean. I ordered the lobster club and didn't know it didn't come with fries but it was delicious! Definitely a cute place to come with friends for lunch or brunch! Tif you're lucky you can get a beautiful view of the beach as well! Service was prompt when we had 15 people. We preordered our food so it came out quick! Came here with my bf and his mom to celebrate his bday. All the food was delicious, we got a steak tartar salad as a starter (life changing), his mom got salmon ochazuke, my bf got the ribeye, and I got a wagyu burger with veggies sticks (i think it was an up charge for the fries which is cruel). I will say, my bf's ribeye was PHENOMENAL (flavorful juices and melt in your mouth soft). I have been fiending to go back for my own, but hopefully not on my dollar. His mom's salmon well seasoned despite the green tea, which I find tends to be an issue with this type of dish, and my burger was hefty and juicy in all the right places Admittedly, the bill can get pricey depending on what you order, but most plates were decently portioned. In addition, they do have decent cheaper options (take my burger for example). Server was quick and attentive, my water was always refilled, and ala moana is abundant with parking so no problems there. Prior to Covid, I would conduct business lunches at least once a month at Mariposa. My clients liked their salads, popover and selection. This was my first time back, since Covid began four years ago and very little has changed. Like all restaurants, prices have gone up and I noticed that they're not as busy as they used to be with a line at the door. We decided to share the crab pasta and the salmon ochasuke. Our waiter was very nice and had the kitchen split it and placed them in separate plates. He asked us if we were celebrating anything and provided a complementary slice of their macadamia pie for my guest's birthday. As always, service was excellent, and the food was good. You now have a lot of choices at Ala Moana. Mariposa will be on the pricier side. "A long time ago... in a shopping center, in Honolulu... It's been a long time since I had last visited the Mariposa. The food and service was always great, it was always a higher end alternative in the AMC. So recently in 2023, on a whim, we decided to have a late lunch when we found out tables were available. After parking our car, we took the elevator at the Ewa/Makai which took us to the 3rd floor and the restaurant. We had the crab salad, the corn chowder and the Mariposa punch. A simple, light meal to tide us over for dinner. The crab salad was balanced nicely and the corn chowder was delicious. The punch definitely quenched the thirst. The food was delicious and the service spot-on. We would definitely be back when doing a "long" shopping expedition at Ala Moana Center. read more

It had been many years since our last visit here, but we remembered it being pretty good back then. Recently we decided to splurge for lunch and were surprised at how badly they compared to our previous experiences. We asked for a seating at ~1:30, well after the main lunch rush and they only appeared to be 50-70% occupied. We ordered the hurricane fries as an appetizer, and it came out in just a few minutes, so they definitely weren't freshly made. They were disappointingly uncrisp, but otherwise just ok. I fondly remembered their popovers, but they also seemed smaller (shrinkflation?) and more mediocre now. One of our entrees was the braised duck leg. For a braised dish, it was unexpectedly dry and tough. It was served with artichoke, which seemed like they should have trimmed more because the outermost leaves were still relatively tough and fibrous. Our other entree was a crab pasta, and it was frankly terrible. The sauce was a lobster bisque, but it had a very strong old seafood flavor, like something that had been sitting out for much too long and concentrating. The crab portions should have been the star of the dish, but were so salty as to be nearly inedible. My overall impression was that the dishes had been prepared a while back and had just been sitting well past their prime in warmers or something. Clearly no one was checking the quality of the dishes coming out of the kitchen. Our server also never really checked in with us or refilled our water either. Choice of indoor and outdoor covered seating. Popover: First complimentary popover served made a great impression! You're able to enjoy a perfect popover with chicken soup served in a tea cup for savory moment or whipped strawberry butter for sweet tooth craving. Second complimentary popover offered and graciously accepted toward the end of my meal appeared darker on the outside while inside was definitely undercooked, custard, egg texture. Crab Pasta: One of their specials served for lunch. Absolutely loved the fresh crab served generously and evenly proportioned to enjoy with hints of spiciness that didn't overpower taste buds. Our server engaged in conversations with us. He checked to see, offered water refills and anything else we needed. He served complimentary Macadamia Nut Pie for our birthday friend. Majority of us tried a small bite. This is the first pie I've seen that featured macadamia nuts galore. Scrumptious, crustless and paired well with light whipped cream. I recently dined with my mom and sister for the first time, and it was a pleasant experience overall. I enjoyed the complimentary and flavorful chicken broth with bread! The only ask I have is for the menu book, cutleries, etc. to be checked before setting it up on the table; we had to ask our server for replacement, which they were swift and apologetic about. Little things like that are fixable, so I'd still recommend dining in. It's also understandable because we were seated outside where some factors are out of the establishment's control. Other than that, the food was amazing! I highly recommend the Salmon Ochazuke. It was very flavorful, light but satisfying. I think they're a reservations only food establishment, but it wasn't busy when we dined in. Two ways you can enter Mariposa: through Neiman Marcus and the side of the building where a door with their name hanging. Excellent upscale bistro located in the Neiman Marcus in Ala Moana Center. I've been here a couple of times with my wife and her family, and the food is always excellent (along with the service). The most recent time, I got the pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious -- also came with a crudite salad, which tasted very fresh. We also got a side of truffle fries for the table -- the first batch came a little lukewarm, but the waiter cheerfully took it back to the kitchen and came back with a piping hot order (which tasted great). Besides the food, another highlight is the view -- the side of the main dining room facing Ala Moana Blvd is open to the air, and affords a lovely view of Ala Moana Park and its beach. If you can get a table right by the railing, do it -- it'll make you enjoy your meal even more! read more

Went here for a birthday lunch. Was really busy so definitely recommend making a booking in advance. Live music was great, not so loud that you couldn't hold conversations. Food really good, the crab pasta was tasty and I want to go back to try the burger that my friend said was amazing. Only downside was our server was a little slow and forgetful. My friend did not receive her soup starter and I did not get my espresso at the end. The soup had to be taken off the bill but the espresso apparently never existed! Ordered their plantation tea and it was spectacular and the best part was unlimited refills; fantastic deal! Really amazed by their superb staff whom provided unparalleled services, notwithstanding the place was pretty packed. Their seafood curry and the pork chop were marvelous, and of course, their famous complimentary baked good continued to be unrivaled; had two servings and still could use another one. Beep boo Beep: Location Found* Did you mean one in Neiman Marcus? Mariposa? The famous popovers? "YES!!!, Can you take us!?" And that kids is the gist of how I ended up at Mariposa on a Wednesday with an out of town friend. Okay, that's not entirely true. We stopped by earlier looking for their seafood laksa, but unfortunately on Saturday, they close super early. Too bad so sad. Anyways, we made reservations to come back another day and honestly we didn't even need it as Wednesday is typically slower than a fat corgi whose belly touches the sidewalk after a big meal. Anyways, we ordered the following: The arancini special, which was three delicious fried rice balls over a shiso leaf topped with ikura. Interesting mix of flavors, I really like the aracini itself, but the bitterness of the shiso did not exactly compliment the rest of the dish, but I'm also not a shiso enthusiast. My dinner company however, was and they were all over this. The corn chowder was thick, warm and very delicious. Not super corny, but very rich. The Sous video pork shoulder definitely was made of different muscles of the shoulder as while the entire dish was tender over a form of risotto rice, certain parts of it were much juicer than other. Parts were somewhat dry and I that's likely due to certain muscles being leaner than others. This was a bit off putting to us, but the flavor was on the mark. If you really like pork, you'd probably like this, but it wasn't uniformly as enjoyable as we'd hoped for. To make up for the huge chunk of animal flesh, we also got the seafood salad, made of a healthy salad covered in huge prawns, chunks of crab meat, avocado and eggs, garnished with some cherry tomatoes and a tasty dressing. The seafood was delicious, with firm shrimp and sweet crab. You can't go wrong here with this salad. Topping the meal off, we got the macadamia nut chocolate pie, which was a dense tart like slice of whipped cream, cut up mac nuts, and a solid chocolate layer, all over a crunchy pie crust, garnished with berries and chocolate. We polished this off real quick. Oh, yeah, I also forgot the popover. It's been a hot minute since I've been back to Mariposa. I think it was 2019, or maybe even earlier. Still the same, super airy and yummy, but we got strawberry butter rather than lilikoi (passion fruit) I remember. Protip: use the bread to scoop up the chowder. The staff at Mariposa were professional, polite, and efficient. They took our request to sit on the balcony and we got great views and photos of diamond head with a rainbow. Great parking at the mall and there's a dedicated entrance on the south side when Neiman Marcus closes. read more

Decent service and tasty cocktail, but sadly the food fell extremely short. They had an "off the menu special" steak dish. I was asked how I wanted it prepared and replied medium-rare. The orders were repeated for accuracy and I heard the same. Upon receiving said steak, it was obviously WELL DONE. Not even close to the order. It was also already sliced, so the cooking had stopped and the kitchen sent it out knowing damn well it was nothing close to the correct temperature. Pics don't lie. Dry, tasteless, a plate of shredded cabbage with a few peas and watermelon chunks, huh? I was expecting a "chopped" salad like what we know from other restaurants, but not here. Apparently I didn't read the menu clearly, as we were having conversation when the waiter came to take our order. I would have been better off cutting my tongue out, as it was the most tasteless salad for $26. Ingredients wise we're talking about at the most $3 worth of ingredients. We dined in here today during their sunset lounge menu aka happy hour. $3 off their cocktails which is originally $15. We came once they opened so we were first to be seated. Mariposa has such a nice vibe and in between fancy and homey. We were greeted by our server Joseph. He was very nice and helped us with the menu. I decided to go with the Spritz cocktail and my other half ordered the Sparkling Pineapple. The appetizers looked really good so we went with the truffle fries ($12) and the garlic chicken sliders ($15). Since we were set with our main entrees, we decided to order that as well. We got the Twice cook shoulder of pork ($28) and the Shrimp Spaghetti ($28). While waiting for our appetizers, we got their famous complimentary popovers and it was so good! We finished it so fast and was ready for another round. The truffle fries came out first and if you love the taste of truffle then I would 100% recommend getting this! The sliders came out shortly and i loved the combination of the mac salad and garlic chicken bunched together in a slider bun. The mac salad was on the best tasting I've tasted in awhile. Our entrees came out fairly quick. The shrimp spaghetti was different and felt more like a pasta. It was pretty good and shrimp was a nice size. The main event was the pork shoulder. Tender and juicy and on top a bed of mung beans which was delicious! Although the food was great, service was lacking during the end of the night. Long wait times for the check and to get the check back. Service during the beginning was great, probably since there wasn't many people yet. Other than that, we will definitely be coming back to try more drinks and foods from their menu. read more

My thoughtful friend told the server--"she's here for the popovers," and the server kept the popovers coming. (I found one piece of potato as I got to the last spoonful--otherwise I really thought it just featured corn- I like it. (I miss the Kahuku Corn Lobster Bisque --I had here years ago). Main Cheeseburger--good burger, juicy, tasty. I finished half (the popovers and shared soup filled me up). My friend had the special--King Crab Pasta. The server struggled to describe it. And could not recommend between the lobster sandwich or the pasta. My friend prompted -- "a cream sauce?" And the server agreed saying it was tomato based. Actually it's a garlic olive oil base. There was one tomato. My friend and I thought adding more fresh cooked tomatoes to the sauce would add a tart dimension needed to complement the salty crab. At a restaurant embedded in Neumann Marcus one dreams of a meal that goes beyond just satisfying hunger. A meal that lingers and leaves an impression and desire to come back soon. Though my budget won't permit regular (read: *any*) shopping at Neiman Marcus, I do find myself in the vicinity pretty often and, if it's around lunch time, Mariposa is usually calling my name! Located on the top floor of Neiman Marcus, you'll find this little gem with ocean views boasting a beautiful sunset if you come at the right time. I absolutely love the open atmosphere here! The staff is pleasant and accommodating and the food is really tasty. Though their menu changes, I must say that the locally sourced produce they use really stood out for me. Last i was here, I ordered the Kahuku corn chowder and I've never loved a soup so much! Their burger is also one of the best I've had on island. So, why 4 stars and not 5? Well, I've unfortunately experienced a few human errors that were just a bit hard to ignore and forget... For example, I ordered a dish to take home and when I opened it, it was the leftovers of someone else's wilted, soggy salad... They DID make it right by reimbursing me, however, when you're pregnant and craving something and end up with a hot mess of soaked greens drenched in a stranger's saliva... kinda gross and disappointing. I did learn to check my to-go food after that situation. Lesson learned! Another was, twice I've ordered the hamburger well- done and it has twice been served to me bloody... I know that rare, for some, is the way to eat meat but that is not my personal favorite and I don't like sending things back to the kitchen so I end up trading with my husband. These have [oddly] not been deal-breakers for me, though I do wish they had more options for children as I do haul my three little [behaved] rascals. My recent lunch here for Mother's Day was not my first. I am giving my review 4 stars for the ambiance which included live music which was a huge plus for me. The space is fresh, lively, and gorgeous with outside view. Food was great especially the salad with truffle vinegerette dressing. Popovers were okay but not the hype I recall from the past. My mother requested for a second one from our waiter and never got it. Oh well. My feedback from this experience is service by staff could have been more warm, engaging and courteous especially since we were dining on Mother's Day. Maybe the staff was working on a day they preferred to be somewhere else or not aware of how they come across to diners. Keep in mind the entrance on the right side (if you are facing the mountains) to Neiman Marcus is closed even if it's nearest to one of the main parking lots. It's been years since I last dined at Mariposa, and I really don't know why it took me so long to come back, but all I can say about Mariposa is the Popover! Ummmmmmmmmmmmm!!! What am I talkin' about???? Just check out my pics, as the three Popovers I destroyed yesterday was so addicting, I almost forgot about my entire meal!!! Lol! How did Mariposa come into the picture??? As always, it all started when I was lerking on Yelp and I came across a pic of a Lobster Sandwich that this dude - Jeffery T. had posted. Although I am not friends with Jeffery T., I wanna give a big shout out to da Bruddah for posting his Lobster Sandwich pic on Yelp!!! MAHALO my Bruddah!!! And the next thing ya know, seeing that picture of da Lobster Sandwich was all I needed to motivate myself to come back to Mariposa! After making reservations, we arrived promptly at 11:45 am. The restaurant wasn't too crowded yet, and the hostess gave us the option of either indoor/outdoor seating. We elected to do the open air outdoor seating, and although the weather wasn't too nice that day, it wasn't an issue eating outside. On the menu of course was my Lobster Sandwich, and my dining mate had ordered the Braised Duck (see da pics). To wash down my meal, I got an ice tea, while my friend got coffee. What can I say about the grub??? That Lobster Sandwich was as advertised! Lots of cold Lobster mixed with mayonnaise, topped with bacon, roasted peppers, avocado, mari's butter lettuce, & mari's garden mini crudites. As for the Braised Duck, it was nicely done and I could have easily ordered this dish too. The Braised Duck was cooked in white wine, and it came with pancetta, artichoke, fingerling potatoes, sweet peas, lemon zest. As good as the meal was, I think the highlight of my meal was that Popover thingy!!! Yes, simple things like that makes a simple guy like me all so happy!!! Although that Popover thingy looked big, when you split open the Popover, the Popover was just an airy buttery piece of bread that came with some sorta strawberry butter. Ummmmmmmmmmmmm. Okay, I must admit that I was so addicted to the taste & texture of that Popover, I just couldn't stop at one. It doesn't help that the service was excellent, where the busboy kept coming back to drop off another Popover for me each time I downed my Popover! Lol! Overall, a FIVE star dining experience dining at Mariposa, as we received attentive and impeccable service! The food was EXCELLENT! And dining at Mariposa during the holidays was pretty cool as Santa was walking around the restaurant and greeting the diners, as well as there was live musical entertainment inside the restaurant. I hope to come back here soon, not only for that Popover (well maybe lie! Buwahahahahaha)........but to try other items on their wonderful menu! read more
