I used Willy recently and about 7 years ago. Importantly, he has excellent equipment: cherry picker truck (lift up into the tree), amazing chipper and so on. He also has an excellent crew. The small project was to take a pittosporum down about 5 feet and enhance the canopy shape. They did a very nice job on this. Meanwhile, the bigger project was being done by the rest of the crew. We have a very large Monterey Cypress. It needed to be cleared or dead branches, a good deal of weight, and a large lateral "window" created to allow a clear view from a back deck. With guys on ropes and a guy on the cherry picker truck (bucket truck), they go the job done. All of this was completed in an afternoon and within about a week of my contacting them. We used Willy's Tree Service to remove a massive eucalyptus tree that probably rose 40 feet. Willy's highly efficient crew took down 2/3 of the tree with thick branches in a day which for us onlookers looked scary and risk laden. Nevertheless, the crew completed that and removal of the remaining trunk and root the following date with incredible efficiency and safety precautions to protect trees from falling. Willy is a life saver. I'd been worried about some trees in our backyard for a while and with the upcoming storm, I decided to call and have Willy come take a look. He came immediately on Monday - I think I called at 4:30 and he was outside by 4:50. He came to our backyard and pointed out several areas that should be tripped back to make it safe. When we asked when the soonest he could come, he said tomorrow. By the next day, an entire team of tree cutters arrived and they were in and out within a few hours. They cut back the trees, opened them up so wind would go through them, and still kept the privacy of our backyard. I asked Willy for a quote on checking out our trees since it's wind and rain season coming up. We didn't specify a time, so when he didn't get back to me in a day or two I thought he had forgotten. But before I got around to contacting him again (I'm terrible at this stuff), he got back to me with both text and a phone call to schedule a walk through. He gave a reasonable quote and explained all his recommendations, and didn't give me a hard time when I said I'd think about it and get back to him. It was a big job but Willy gave me a very reasonable quote and his team arrived the next morning and did a wonderful job. Willy was so helpful removing a big chunk of our ash tree that had a large branch drop during the storm in March. The same section of the tree had also dropped a branch into the yard in January and it was clear that the whole section needed to be removed. Willy showed up within 24 hours to inspect it and had a crew there the following morning to complete the work, which took until about 2pm. I also approved them trimming some of my other trees while they were on site and the overall bill was a lot less than I feared it would be. The only reason I reduced the rating to 4 stars instead of 5 is that later in the day the crew had a careless trimmer up in the tree and another on the ground. The one in the tree cut and dropped a large branch onto my beautiful pineapple guava, breaking off a large section in the middle of the tree. Shortly after that a different trimmer cut off a significant amount of my blooming ceanothus tree, which didn't need pruning and shouldn't have been touched. All in all I'm glad I had the work done and they did a great job on my giant ash tree, but the training and supervision of the crew must be lacking or these errors wouldn't have left me with two of my smaller trees damaged. read more

Really great tree service. Willy supervises everything meticulously. He has Arborist credentials. Punctual, courteous, terrific workers. Everyone seems to love their work. And the work is artful. One doesn't really need to instruct them as they know how to thin out and mold the trees to a beautiful image. But they always ask for your preferences or requests. They have all the equipment; Lifts, chipper trucks, harnesses and they completely clean up and haul everything away. Willy's Tree Service thinned, trimmed and cut back excessively grown heavy branches on our 75-year-old large Magnolia tree in the parking strip. This tree had never been professionally maintained. (I used to cut some of the lower branches until I could no longer safely reach any.) Willy and his four-man crew expertly took on the task -initially I wanted to cut back away from the roof, gutter and low branches hanging over the driveway (I had to duck to get into the car) and to have some lower branches over the neighbor yard removed. Willy did an assessment of the tree condition, and I am very pleased with the completed work. The tree now looks great (see photo- I didn't take a before picture, but you couldn't see the sky through it!). Willy addressed with me the heavy branches on this old tree, and I feared the possibility something could come down in a heavy storm. I have used Willy's Tree Service twice now and have been pleased both times. He is usually quite responsive coming over to give you an estimate and arrange for a time for the work to be done. His prices a reasonable however he is amenable to some negotiations which I appreciated. I was able to keep him at his previous job's prices. He arrives with a large enough crew to complete the job in a timely fashion, usually about 6-7 workers and 4 specialty trucks. He was amenable to my suggestions as to how much to cut and to the style and shapes I wanted, which is important. After all, I have to live with the job performed. The fire department asked us to trim an oak tree that was touching our house in preparation for the upcoming fire season. We live on a steep slope, so fire preparedness is a must. It had been 30 years since we last trimmed some of the trees on our property, so they were quite tall. Willy is knowledgeable about which trees are fire prone (in our case acacia and pine). Willie is also a certified arborist and has a California Contractors License bond. He was able to recommend how to trim an oak tree that was growing into an outdoor stair banister so that it wouldn't put as much weight on the banister in the future. In addition, he noticed that a black oak that was poorly trimmed years earlier needed to be trimmed because it was overhanging an area in the street where it would eventually be dangerous to passing cars and pedestrians. His crew removed lots of dead branches on other oaks on the property and topped two oaks that had obstructed a view of the bay. On the day of the work, Willy arrived with a crew of 10 people and a forestry bucket truck to facilitate work on the steep part of our hill, along with 2 other trucks. Willy was there to oversee the work the entire day the crew was there and checked in with me frequently to show me the work and make sure that all was well. I highly recommend him. read more

We are in awe! Willy and his outstanding crew removed three huge trees and ground out the stumps in about half a day. Two of the trees were oaks that some clever squirrels had planted in a tight spot between houses, so that they were looming over both of our rooftops, a big hazard.
