Outstanding service! We are incredibly happy campers. We needed two trees removed ASAP and put out a request for service. Alejandro responded right away and came out the very same Friday to give us a highly affordable estimate. To our surprise, he was able to send his crew out at 8:00 AM the next morning (Saturday)! The team did an excellent job. Every single worker was amazing, professional, and they clearly knew exactly what they were doing. If you want a company that is highly responsive, reasonably priced, and efficient, look no further. I definitely recommend them! read more

Really glad we found Cal Line for our tree work. Alejandro came out, took a good look at everything, and gave us a straightforward quote that ended up being more reasonable than the other bids we got. What stood out most was how much he actually knew, he explained why certain trees needed to be trimmed a certain way and at a certain time of year, not just "we'll cut it and see." The crew showed up when they said they would, worked fast without cutting corners, and hauled away all the debris so we weren't left with a mess in the yard. They even took down a couple of overgrown trees and cleaned up some hedges along the fence line, and the whole property looks so much better now. Everyone on the crew was easy to deal with and clearly knew what they were doing. We've already got a couple more trees we want looked at and Cal Line will be who we call. read more

We just moved into a house that had some larger trees that had been neglected for quite some time, including a red cedar and a deodar cedar. I love these trees and they were part of why we bought the house. I wanted them to be tastefully trimmed so they look natural while also making sure they're safe and we're not going to have dead branches fall when the rainy season hits. Alejandro's quote was very reasonable, and his brother and the crew was able to do some other tree work with a minimal increase to the baseline quote. They did such a good job I want to have them back to take care of some other trees that I wasn't considering prioritizing, including a shared tree with the neighbor. Thank you for the great work! read more

I'm very happy with the work the Cal-Line did. Alejandro recently came to look at a big pine tree (least 40 feet up) on my property which we haven't touched in the 7 years we've lived there. Alejandro looked it over to confirm that the tree seemed healthy, and gave me quotes for a trim/prune and a full removal. One thing he told me was that Pines need to be pruned when it is cooler otherwise it improves the chances of beetles coming in and killing the tree, no other companies offering quotes mentioned that. We proceeded with them pruning our big tree, whom climbed on and used safety ropes. They roped big branches so they didn't just fall to the ground. They also had a team removing the branches to get chipped. They took off a decent amount of weight off while preserving the tree. While it would be safer in the long run to take down the trees, we wanted to keep them as long as we can because the not only provide shade or homes for animals but they add character to our property and neighborhood. The team worked pretty efficiently, did their work that day in a few hours. We have a bunch of trees on our property so we will probably call them again in the future. read more

Cal Line Tree care was great. They were good with communication, they were prompt and gave a very fair price. They were available the next day. They cut down a big dead tree and cleaned up completely after. read more

Very easy to communicate with and book. The team came in to prune one tree - they were here on time, got the job done exactly as asked, and cleaned up the space after. Pleasant team to work with. We'll call Cal Line for future projects! read more

Super responsive and did a great job taking down my palm tree (very large) as well as grinding the stump. They were about 20% cheaper than the two other bids I got and I can't imagine I would have been any happier with the more expensive tree company. One hiccup was they hit the water main, but they got it shut off and repaired it at no extra expense to me so no harm no foul. Also they were great at grinding down the stump which other companies were a bit helpful about. read more

10/10 service from Cal Line Tree Care! They made the whole process completely stress-free. Compared to several other companies we called, CalLine's quote was clear, honest and very reasonable. On the day of the job, the crew was on time, super professional, and did an awesome, thorough job trimmimg and removing our trees. You can tell they truly care about their work. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them - A++++ service! read more

Amazing price and amazing work done. They far exceeded my expectations in everything they did; which was trim / shape a couple of trees, remove about 8-10 hedge plants, remove ivy going across about 50 ft of the fence line. And they also stump grinded everything for future planting. read more

These people are NOT arborists or anything close to it. If you need a tree removed and you don't mind branches falling on and breaking your other plants, and then having to pull the dead branches that fell onto your other bushes and trim the broken branches of those broken shrubs, then they are your men. Otherwise I do NOT recommend them for aesthetic pruning at all. read more

2 Stars are because when I first called Alejandro, he sent me his CA contractor's license and insurance cert before even stepping foot on the property. We scheduled a time and the day of called me to see if he could come over earlier. No problem - I like this guy. Then things went dead. He promised a quote that day, and I told him I'll be on vacation for 6 days so wouldn't reply until I got back but I'd review the quote. He had some reservation about a few items I wanted done - and I told him he could forget those or quote separately. I wanted weed abatement in our side lot, a few vines removed, a tree removed, 1-2 trees trimmed and poison oak cut. He said no problem for all of this. Then I never got a quote. Called him again on when I got back, again a few weeks later after hearing nothing, I sent a text with my email in case he was having trouble texting the quote, etc. I finally texted again 6 weeks after expecting the initial quote and simply asked if A) he is going to send a quote or B) if not, please let me know. Crickets. I have plenty of time between contacts - just in the event he had a family or other emergency. But the communication remained 1-way. I had high hopes b/c I do prefer giving my business to responsive, hard-working younger professionals. But wow, the disappointment on this was way more than I expected. I would suggest if you have work to be done, look elsewhere - unless you've had positive experience in the past and he came through and you're a regular customer that he prefers vs. new business. Frankly, with our property having much clearing to be done, he had an opportunity for a long-term customer relationship who would have given him business year after year. It is not meant to be. Buyer beware. read more

I have a very, very tall Cedar tree in my backyard. Periodic cutting of long limbs have prevented damage or injury from falling limbs for the 25 years. But recently, two very large limbs, cracked and fell down. Thankfully they were in the evening when with the chilly winds, everyone was inside. I called about 5 or 6 Tree Professionals using Yelp's pre-screened recommendations. Cal-Line's owner CEO Alejandro Ruvalcaba came perosnally described what and where he would cut and why. The tree was healthy and solidy rooted, he assured me. He pointed out the insides of the fallen limb were healthy wood. Disease was not the cause and thus there was no need to cut the entire tree down. It's a trim job, not a removal job. I appreciated his honesty as removal would have been a major and expensive project. Finally, he quoted a very fair price, based on the 5 or so quote I got. More importantly, he could start the job 8AM the next. This in mind was an emergency. A third falling limb - we may not be so lucky. Alejandro explained that the change and increased risk is the result of the recent weather changes the past few years, including stronger and more winds and the new "river rain storms" or "Pineapple Expresses" new to the Bay area. Another tree service said the same thing. Overly, they have greatly stressed trees everywhere and lessened their stability. He struck me as very well informed about trees in general and climate change's impact on stability. Another Tree Service gave me the same explanation, but they could not start until a week later. Also, their quote was significantly higher. More important again, this being an emergency, Cal-Line could start work 8 AM the next day. They arrived on-time. Mr. Ruvalcaba later talked to my neighbor with whom I share a fence. She and her husband had a few concerns about safety on their side from the tree limbs straddling our property line. After some discussion, we scheduled another job for Monday morning and trimmed those. Those did not posed much of a risk as they were much thinner branches and did not extend far out. But after this unexpected drop, I decided "better safe than sorry." Anyway, the Cal-Line crew completed the job & removed all plant debris each day before leaving. The crew are all professional, efficient, and respectful. There's a comraderie group photo of them on the website. You can see photos of a variety of trucks and equipment for any size job. I highly recommend Cal-Line Trees. I have a couple of other tree jobs in the next few months and will ask Cal-Line Trees for a quote. read more

Needed to trim/prune 4 large trees. Cal Line was by far and away the most professional. Response time, lines of communication, reliability, insurance/documentation all hit highest marks. The work was on schedule, clean, and perfect. The price was below market, affordable, fair and reasonable. As a home owner, I couldn't have asked for a better company, a family run business as Cal Line. Thank you Alejandro, you are my 1st call for any future work. Alejandro and Cal-Line Tree Care were excellent to work with. I hired them to remove a 50+ foot pine tree, remove a large oak tree, and prune five additional trees on a steep hillside. Alejandro communicated with me throughout the project and followed up both during and after the work to make sure I was completely satisfied. His crew was professional, efficient, and left the property clean when they were finished. One thing I especially appreciated was that Alejandro took the time to communicate directly with my neighbors to make sure the project went smoothly and to address any concerns. I also obtained four quotes, and his pricing was very competitive. Based on my experience, I would absolutely hire Cal-Line Tree Care again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. read more

Call Line is fully insured and bonded. The estimator and field crews were extremely helpful with suggested trimming and maintenance.

I hired them to remove one tree that was about 25 feet tall, four shrubs covering approximately 49 square feet and standing about 6 feet tall, and dead branches from two other trees. The price was reasonable, and they did a great job. I would definitely hire them again for future projects. read more

Our neighbor called Cal-Line for tree trimming, including a limb from one of our trees hanging over their property line. When Alejandro arrived I had a conversation with him about trimming both big trees adjacent to the property line. We agreed on a very fair price. When I saw what a good job his crew was doing, I asked him to add another tree in front. Alejandro and his 3-man crew did an A+ job. He was very good at communicating, and his pricing was more than fair. I would strongly recommend his company for any tree trimming projects you might have. read more

I can't say enough nice things about Alejandro and the whole Cal-Line team. Within five minutes after I posted this project on Yelp, Alejandro contacted me with an offer to view the acacia tree that had grown to monstrous height and width and was dangerously overhanging our neighbors' yards and roofs. I sent him a video of the tree and surrounding area, and within an hour he was here on site to review the issue. After a thorough inspection, he provided a very reasonable verbal quote, and followed up just a few minutes later with a detailed written quote conveniently texted to my phone. He also texted me his active contractor's license and certificate of liability insurance. I accepted the quote and we made an appointment for two days later. Alejandro was happy to adjust his suggested time to my schedule, and his crew showed up on time and ready to roll. To be honest, I was fearful of this project, having had a horrific experience a few years ago with a large tree that blew down in a storm. But my fears were totally unfounded: The Cal-Line team completed the entire project quickly, smoothly and professionally. They took great care to control the fallout from branches and trunk segments, using ropes to ensure that nothing fell outside of our own property or on any areas or surfaces that could cause damage. The crew efficiently cleared the debris away as it fell, piling it neatly in front of the house, next to their parked wood chipper. Although his foreman was perfectly capable and experienced, Alejandro himself took the trouble to show up about halfway through the project, just to make sure things were running well. When the tree was pruned to their satisfaction and mine, they cleaned the yard and patio spotlessly, leaving not a single stray leaf on the ground. They disposed of the piled branches in a matter of minutes, made sure I was happy with the job, and went off on their way. I recommend Cal-Line Tree Care wholeheartedly and without reservation. I could not have had a better experience. read more

Great experience overall! Responsive and efficient. Their quote is fair, we had 5 quotes and Cal-Line's was within range of 3 of them. Our ~50ft Eucalyptus tree was removed within 4 hours. Thoroughly impressed. I would definitely call them back if I have another reason to remove a tree. read more

This review is long overdue! Last year we contacted Cal Line Tree Care because a large portion of our black walnut tree collapsed and we figured it was time to trim the whole tree, as well as totally remove a pear tree that had exposed roots and creeping towards our driveway and house foundation. I had a mixed experience with Alejandro over the 6-8 months I worked with him. While he was generally responsive and made lots of promises, he misrepresented himself as an arborist when I needed one for tree root pruning around a sidewalk permit with the City of Oakland. Alejandro only told the truth after we had gathered a big 10-person crew of my general contractor's team, the city inspector and whole concrete team ready to pour the sidewalk. With all these men looking to him for approval as the arborist, he buckled and admitted he wasn't a "certified arborist" but a "licensed arborist." We were all dumbfounded. This colossal waste of time cost me several thousand dollars more from a two week delay and extra man hours over Xmas, when Alejandro left a big safety hazard of sharp nails, overturned plywood, and a mess of wood chips on the sidewalk that another crew had to manage when he was a no-show on the cleaning part. At least he did actually prune the roots after he found a real "certified arborist" to replace him. He did cut back the tree branches just fine. But If you need anything more official than a tree haircut, I don't recommend you choose Alejandro. read more

Cal Line Tree Care did a great job removing three palm trees from our back yard. Alejandro was both very professional and personable. They were both punctual and efficient. Alejandro and his crew were great. I needed a tree removed immediately before it damaged my fence, Alejandro came out Friday afternoon to give me a quote and the tree was gone Saturday morning. We've done a few jobs w Cal-Line Tree Care, and we're really happy with the quality of the work. Alex/Alejandro is always readily available to communicate via call/text. They've done a big job for us, which was removing a redwood that was shared w my neighbor, requiring a permit with the City of Oakland. Alex provided all the documentation needed to put our minds at easy w such a big project. His team was able to add on additional tree trimming last minute. Most recently they did a small job for me pruning some over grown maples. I was putting off that work because the last folks I had trim them completely ruined the shape. But Cal-Line Tree Care did a wonderful job thinning out the tree and maintained the beautiful aesthetic. They are so professional. I was a little shy to ask them to trim a bit more off, but their on-site team didn't pressure me or make me feel like my asks were a burden. Lastly I found that their quote are fair and on the lower range, compared to other arborists that will charge you exorbitant fees just because they big or overgrown trees. Great job, nice cleanup and friendly efficient crew. Fair prices too. Will use again.

I am updating my previous review as the owner personally came to address the issues. It was definitely above and beyond, and I appreciate the effort to address the situation and make it right. He was very sincere said that he will talk to his crew about what occurred to not have it happen again in the future. ######## I reached out to this company twice via their website contact form about an issue that I had with them at my home and they never responded. This company removed two trees from my neighbor's property on the side that faces my property. I was home all morning but no one came to ring my door bell or talk to me before the work started. I was only alerted to the work when I heard their workers walking on MY roof and saw them dropping tree limbs onto MY garage roof and then dragging them along the roof and throwing them onto the sidewalk in front of my house. The truck said "Cal-Line Tree Care" "LIC.#1091502." This is extremely unprofessional. You do not work on someone's property, let alone go on their roof, without asking permission first. I went outside and told them that this roof was brand-new and to please not drop things onto it or drag tree limbs across it. It didn't seem to change how they were working. They were working extremely fast, without much care for my property. After they left, I discovered that they dented one of my gutters, they also scratched the new paint job on my home and my detached garage from dropping tree limbs against it, and they left a mess on my roof, all of which I had to clean up. read more

Requested they do stump grinding from recent demo and yard work. Slightly more expensive service than the absolute lowest quote I got, but given my happy review from March, I was happy to go with them, knowing the quality of their work. They removed one large stump that had largely dry rotted out after being covered by a building for 40 years, but used a grinding machine that was about the size of one of those stand up rider mowers (one big engine on tracks with a gnarly looking articulated circular saw sort of head) to get the two newer stumps and some collections of stumps left over from some shrub removals. For large stumps, the machine and operator also removed the big roots showing at the surface. The process left a mixture of dirt and sawdust. read more
