Wiley Gunters is a friendly 2-story bar in Riverside. It is located just past the shopping center with Shoppers and Rite Aid. It's a Skins bar and transforms into AWESOMENESS for their games, including playing HTTR on the speakers when the Skins score (a must!) I was impressed by the service considering that this place was packed wall-to-wall for the game. The bartender was fast and you can order food on either floor and they will come find you (and promptly) to serve you your food! Prices are reasonable and thank the lord-they have a decent vodka selection along with their many seasonal beers. They also were super friendly. The crowd is your typical 20s fed hill crowd. They also have happy hour M-Th 5-7 and Fridays 4-7 with $3 and $4 drinks, and $5 apps! Will be back soon to check it out! read more

So i dropped into WG because the reviews said the burgers were excellent. To me what i ordered was decent enough. It was the cheasepeake burger medium done. The patty was a little bland, the dip was good, and the bread was nice. I think i enjoyed the bread the most. The fries were good, glad i tried it but not a place i will go out of my way for. Love where Wiley Gunters is situated and the fact that things are pretty quiet around it, you can go in with a crowd and totally feel like you're somewhere other than Fed/Locust Point. The staff and bartenders are always extremely helpful and patient, especially since it seems like a lot of people come with larger parties. We stopped in the other day while actually waiting for reservations somewhere and decided to grab a few drinks. The table went with their Orange and Grapefruit crushes, which are fresh-squeezed and probably the best crushes I've ever had. A hidden gem for anyone but especially those folken from DC :) Not only is the beer list large in well crafted, the layout is welcoming, the service is personal and attentive and the food is well above average bar fare! Oh, and did I happen to mention that this bar-restaurant is a Redskins bar...the only we have seen in Baltimore! I was born in D.C. and have been a DC football fan my whole life so finding all of these qualities under one roof made me just smile. Walking in you immediately notice the large chalk board at the other end that has the ~18 beers on tap, and these are craft beers ladies and gents! The bar is on the left and winds around towards the restrooms while the tables are off the the right. There is also an upstairs but we did not venture up. The ambiance is nice and dark but not gloomy...I would call it cozy and welcoming at least for the time of day we arrived - at lunch on a weekday. I have been on an unfiltered IPA beer kick ("New England style IPA" some call it) so I ordered a Cptn. Lawrence IPA that most closely fit that description and was very satisfied with that choice. The bartenders were friendly and took their time explaining the foods and their take on the beers to meet our needs better. We shared the chicken tenders and fries as an appetizer and each had a sandwich. My wife, the supreme foodie with the superhero-tastebud-uber-power exclaimed that the fries ordered there were perhaps the best boardwalk-style fresh cut fries she had ever had and we have had a LOT of fries! I did notice who light, both in color and in texture, the fires were. We have had fresh cut fries of this style, but it was true, these fries stood a head and shoulder above the others in their quality somehow. The nuggets were tasty as well, but my sandwich is one I will have again. Check out the photos I am posting on the food and area to see for yourself. The ahi tune sandwich was done rare, just how I asked for it and together with the home made slaw, was well....damn fresh and mighty fine. If I were back in college when I was a "big eater" I would have ordered another sandwich on the menu in hopes it was anywhere near to the quality of the tuna sandwich. I have heard the wings there are a must try and will do so on the next visit for sure. It was not until I was in between appetizer and main course that I glanced to the right to see all the DC football paraphernalia from framed photos of RFK, team logos & jerseys, etc... that I almost choked on my cool and refreshing IPA. Well recommended by a few locals AND regulars, this place lived up to all the hype. The staff is absolutely friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious, fresh and reasonably priced. I was able to get a good view of the kitchen staff and they put a lot of car into each meal. Great food for a bar for sure! I'd love to visit again when in the Baltimore area. Try their refreshing Orange Crush, it is made with freshly squeezed orange juice and it is made to order. They have a great beer craft beer selection as well. Stopped by after a basketball game for a cheap quick bite to eat. Wiley Gunter's was offering $7 burgers on a Monday night. Can't beat the price, but the burger was mediocre. I got the Chesapeake burger with the crab dip and it wasn't anything to scream about. Did the job for $7. The Southwest sandwich was ok, but the fries were better. If you're into beer specials, there's a lot of happy hour deals. It was a family oriented ambiance. It wasn't a busy night so the service was decent. Great atmosphere with just the perfect level of dive. Bartenders were knowledgeable and the selection of beers on tap did not disappoint. Especially for those connoisseurs out there. I was torn between so many things on the menu but ended up getting The Ahi Tuna wrap which was out of this world, fresher than the produce section of Whole Foods on a Sunday morning. The wasabi sauce had just enough spice to it and I devoured this wrap in minutes. And This may sound snoody but I know a good quality French frie and you could tell these were made from real potatoes and not the frozen stuff. Definitely recommend this spot to anyone. read more

Wiley Gunters is by far my favorite local bar and restaurant. You could almost miss it passing by, as it is unassumingly nestled between a section of row homes and a McDonald's, but what a hidden gem. My husband and I lived in South Fed Hill for a few years and never ventured over to WG's, and I'm still kicking myself for all that time we were missing out. Thankfully, we now live in short walking distance, and our visits are a weekly affair, even with the new norm of COVID takeout. My only hesitation in writing this review is that, selfishly, I don't want to swamp the place because I like being able to get a seat at the bar whenever I want! But I don't think I'm alone, because after one visit it is obvious what a local, loyal following they have, and rightly so. If you love beer, this is your spot, and Dan is your bartender. He alone is worth writing a review for - insanely knowledgeable, works his ass off (while being incredibly patient, as I can never decide what to order), and is genuinely friendly. Dan has introduced us to our most favorite beers that we would have never heard about otherwise, and his recommendations are always spot-on. In fairness, all the bartenders and servers are great, but Dan is just our guy, and this is my review, so that's the way it is. As far as other drinks, they have select wines on tap and give generous pours, and while I don't typically order crushes, the bartenders fresh-squeeze all the fruit to order per drink, which is the right way - not the easy way, and also pretty much sums up everything done at WG's. Which leads me to the awesome food that comes out of the hardest working, but insanely small bar/restaurant kitchen I have ever seen. I love open kitchens where I can watch the food being prepped and served, and this one blows my mind. I have never seen a restaurant kitchen with anyone working this fast, constantly cleaning as they work, and putting out this volume and level of food, while working in a space essentially the size of my bathroom. And everything is fresh. This is no 'frozen food heated in a microwave' kind of joint. Even the french fries are made from fresh potatoes. *Side note* - literally my singular beef with WG's is that I like my fries crispy on the outside, and they fry them straight from soaking in water without drying, so they are often too soft for MY personal preference, but I realize this is a preference - *end side note.* To emphasize the freshness, I pretty much can't imagine ordering rare Ahi tuna at a bar, but their tuna is more fresh than some sushi restaurants I've been to. I have made a lofty goal to try everything on the menu at least once, but I have consistently failed, because everything I've had so far is so good that I can't help myself but order the same dishes on repeat. Despite all the difficulties COVID has thrown at the restaurant industry as a whole, we have been so thrilled to see that Wiley Gunters has done the absolute best they can to adapt (including the new addition of outdoor seating with picnic tables, plants, and TVs), and we will take them whatever way we can get them. Pretty sweet selection of beers from local breweries and breweries around the country. The bartender/waiter seemed to know his beers as well, so props to him. Came here on a Monday and it turned out to be burger night! $7 burgers. Got the smoked burger on a pretzel bun, medium well with fries. Came with mushroom and smoked gouda. The cheese was melted nicely with the earthiness of the mushrooms A banging flavorful burger. Would recommend. Also started off with the buff chick dip. Comes with tortilla chips and pita. Visited this spot for a quick happy hour with the boyfriend and it really surprised me! I don't know how we haven't been here sooner, especially since it's pretty visible in locust point, but it was definitely worth it! We had exceptional service! If you are looking for tasty handmade burgers, you have come to the right place. My takeout order included 3 burgers, the steak melt, dry rub wings and soft pretzels. Everyone was happy with their entree. The outdoor seating was spaced out, as were several tables for indoor dining. Only thing to note, they did not have plastic utensils for To Go orders. Wileys is a gem in Baltimore. Where to start? 1. Service - people working there are always busting ass to help customers. Sometimes they get slammed, but overall, they are very attentive to their customers. 2. Food. It's just damn good bar food. I haven't tried all of the more unique stuff (like the tuna nachos) but that's only because they execute regular bar food so well that I don't branch out. I love the tendies (come with bomb honey mustard), the wings, the crab corn chowder, the burgers. The fries are good. Mozzarella balls are unique and come with both a sweet jam type sauce and marinara. Fun stuff. 3. Drinks. If everything else wasn't enough, they make good drinks. But the highlight really is the beer here. I don't say this lightly but I think they have the BEST CURATED BEER LIST IN BALTIMORE. I'm not kidding. Whoever makes this list and gets this beer to this institution is awesome. While they have a lot of selection, it's not like one of those 40+ tap places that have 35 shitty beers. There is not many restaurants in Baltimore that i go to where you can get quality food for an amazing price. Wiley Gunters had one of the best Happy hours ive been to in Baltimore. The Servers and bartenders are nice and welcoming. The food comes out quick and hot. Happy hour prices range from $4-6 depending on what you get in food and beverages but overall food is fantastic and they also have a great beer menu if you like local brews. Im a foodie and I must say its a hidden gem in locust point. To be in a redskins bar as a Cowboys fan with this service and food quality i had to give it a 5!!! read more

I've been here twice, but never had anything to eat. Both times were an attempt at brunch. This first time there was a sign on the door that said they had an emergency and couldn't open so I ended up at Wine Market Bistro, which if you haven't been has awesome brunch. The last time was a couple weeks ago (December 29th to be exact). When we walked in we weren't really greeted just stared at. We were the only people there. After standing there for a few minutes we decided we were supposed to seat ourselves. We ordered mimosas right away. The waitress brought menus and then went back behind the bar. We looked through the menu and didn't see any brunch items. The waitress came back with our drinks and we asked for the brunch menu. She informed us that it was "game day" so only wings and burgers. While she was apologetic, she did suggest that we go somewhere else if we wanted brunch. We paid for our mimosas and left disappointed. On our way back to the car we noticed a bunch of people leaving and entering a diner. We popped in, checked the menu and decided to stay. We love Wileys! First off, I'm convinced they have the best chicken tenders. Instead of being breaded and a weird outer shell like your cheap baseball game tenders, these are fried and have a unique crispiness to them. Also, the fries are great. The buffalo chicken dip is our go to appetizer. It's just spicy enough to have a kick but not unbearable. Oh, and if you like ahi tuna, get it from here. You'd never expect it, but it's so good. I heard about Wiley Gunters from a bartender at nearby Bar Liquorice who recommended it as a good joint in Federal Hill to get a burger. I checked it out on a Saturday night around 8pm with a friend. We found a table quickly and were waited upon by an attentive waitress. My friend and I both had burgers. I had the Bar B Que at the recommendation of our waitress, and he had Aztec. The burgers were excellent, and the fries with Old Bay were also great. This place doesn't seem to get as much hype as nearby Abbey Burger Bistro in Federal Hill or other joints around town, but I really thought the food was of high quality. The only thing that wasn't my favorite about Wiley Gunters was the atmosphere. I understand it's a sports bar, but the restaurant was louder than most sports bars I've been to with music playing and multiple TVs on the walls. This place never disappoints! I have been many times and loved it all! The WG Wings and the sliders are my favorite. The bartenders are awesome, and always so friendly! They have lots of local beer options and will let you taste a sample before you commit to a full pint. Hands down one of the very best burgers I've had on the East coast! The freshness is evident in every bite from the perfectly cooked "medium" ordered burger to the homecut/cooked fries. Apparently the secret to the amazing melding of flavors is that this place doesn't even own a freezer. Say what?!? That's right no freezer equals amazing tasting food!!! I ordered the Dill burger (that's not the name, but that's the fault of the great beer selection...which I'll touch on later) and the combination of flavors were nothing short of perfect. WG's offers 14 taps, a selection of 80 bottled beer, and 30+ canned beer! That's just the start too. Dan, a very friendly and personable fellow behind the bar makes an amazing Bloody Mary mix...and this is coming from a guy who didn't care for Bloody Mary's. I'm a believer now LOL. For those folks who didn't venture upstairs; WG's sports an additional bar, extra seating and televisions, and shuffleboard and Foosball tables. This place has enough to keep someone who has nothing to do occupied for hours . I spent a good 2+ hours hanging out at my new local bar talking with the cooks, and Wiley himself. I got drinks and some appetizers after kickball with some friends. It's definitely a very casual place on Sunday's. Dan our bartender was great. The bartenders are knowledgable and friendly. The food was okay. We orders Chesapeake Nachos and chicken tenders with fries. The nachos were good for the chips on top but underneath it was just plan chips (but that's a problem with any nacho). The nachos had very noticeable amount of crab meat (yum). The only issue I had were the overcooked chicken tenders. They were fried to the point that they were difficult to eat. read more

My super pregnant self felt like a good burger for lunch yesterday but did not feel like hunting for a parking spot by Abby Burger. We thought we would give this place a try, and I'm so glad we did. I got the dill burger and my husband got the blue cheese, both were great. Big burgers cooked to perfection - check Sweet potato fries as an option - check Fresh grapefruit juice, probably for mixed drinks but perfect for my constant pregnancy craving for grapefruit - check Different bun options - check I even liked the music they were playing, even if it was slightly on the loud side. Ordered here since my original plan didn't work out but was pleasantly surprised. Located on Fort Ave directly beside the Southside shopping center. Parking is limited to the street but it would be easy to park in the shopping center and walk over. I ordered through the Yelp App and my food was ready when I arrived. Bar looked cool with lots of ambient lighting. Not a huge bar area but still looked like ample seating. My food was ok. Ordered a chicken ceaser wrap with fries. The fries are seasoned with old bay which I wasn't excepting and they were too soggy for my liking but still tasted fine. All in all happy with my experience and will try ordering inside the bar next time :) Ok. This is my updated review. Sad to say I couldn't be more disappointed:( Service was terrible! The two servers working must of had friends there because they spent a lot of time at one table. They also took shots with them. All the while we waited over 20 minutes for our food.
