Tried this place for the first time tonight and was seriously underwhelmed. I truly do not get the hype. Overall, a very mediocre meal save for the frog legs, with a very inattentive waitress/bartender despite being a foot away. Impossible to get her attention despite her face being inches away from us at the bar! What we ordered: - Bloody caesar cocktail - not good, the version at Jeffrey's grocery is 1000x better - House dirty martini - good, very dirty Food wise: - Seafood cocktail - a very tiny bowl of seafood crudo mixed with cocktail sauce situation. Was fine, but for $32 seems like robbery. Raw seafood at Penny is 1000x better - Raw mussels - were good - Frog legs - truly the only thing that was memorable and very good - Cheeseburger - fine, but frankly I had one at Hamburger America yesterday for half the price and it was better. The ones at Four Charles/ Au Cheval are 1000x better. Who said this place has the "best" burger in the city? I would like to have a word with them - Fries - ok The 2 women next to us sent their steak back. The ambiance was cool but not particularly refined or well dressed. Some people were incredibly loud. Excellent service. Tried the tuna Tartare to begin which was delicious. Maybe add a flatbeead cracker with it would be perfect. They are known for their cheeseburgers and they did not disappoint. I tried the kielbssa which was outstanding. We added fries and baked potato as sides. Finished up with custard black velvet with cherries. Delicious. Wild Cherry is one of those super-hyped, impossible-to-reserve hot spots that, if you're lucky enough to actually get a reservation, you always wonder if it can possibly live up to the hype. In this case, the answer is YES. Wild Cherry is hidden away behind a curtain in the austere, dimly-lit lobby of the Cherry Lane Theater, and once those curtains part, it's almost like Dorothy walking out of sepia-toned Kansas and into Technicolored Oz. The plushly-appointed room hums with activity and excitement, yet somehow manages to remain "intimate" rather than "cramped" (the small but beautifully-designed space holds only twelve tables, and an equal number of bar seats). We were given a wonderful table in the middle of the room, and promptly served complimentary "bubbles" in the form of a lovely sparkling rosé. From there it was on to perfectly mixed martinis; a standard vodka one for me, the special House Dirty Martini for my friend, with the additional brininess of an oyster shell. (You'll just have to try it for yourselves!) Our appetizers consisted of the Frogs Legs Kiev, drumsticks of crispy frogs' legs filled with melted garlic butter, which bursts in your mouth in the same way a proper Chicken Kiev achieves a perfect spurt of butter when cut into; and the Chicken Liver Mousse, its richness nicely balanced by a very light port wine glaze and, even better, delicious cornichons. My main course was the Kielbasa & Kraut, a hefty plate of exactly what it sounds like, accompanied by good, strong mustard. The kielbasa was one of the best sausages I've ever tasted: it had juiciness, savoriness, saltiness, slight spiciness, and even some crispness from the perfectly taut, browned casing. I rarely finish everything on my plate these days. I did with this. My friend ordered the burger, which is already gaining a reputation as a contender for Best In Town, upon which he bestowed his ultimate compliment: "Simply Divoon!" Sleeper item: I inquired about "Lani's Greens" from the sides section, and I'm glad I did -- it turned out to be the most savory, well-seasoned tangle of sautéed spinach and broccoli rabe that I've had in a long time, and it counteracted the rich unctuousness of the other menu items beautifully. For dessert, we shared the infamous, Instagram-ready slab of coconut cake, which really did taste as good as it looked, which is certainly not always, or even usually, the case with such "viral" dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and couldn't have been more pleased with the warm welcome (we bow to the fabulous Gabrielle), thoughtful service (we're looking at you, Marcus), expert cocktails, satisfying food, glamorous decor, and fun vibe -- I can't recall any other time in recent memory when we've not only struck up lively conversation with a neighboring table, but also wound up sharing plates with these new friends. Wild Cherry is a SOLID 4. You know, the restaurants that hit the marks but you know there's an inkling of more they can do to tip the scale? The vibe is great - the food is up there - the service is pretty darn good! The burger is solid but sadly, it doesn't rank for me. I know some people say "best burger in the city". No. It's good, but it doesn't get that status, at least not in my book. The Caesar salad is real nice, chicken mouse as well. The coconut cake is damn good! Get it if you like sweets and/or, you want a sweet bite. It's delicious. Cocktails are a solid 4 as well. Are they over the top? They're not, however, they are good. Between the two of us, we got a dirty gin martini, the bees knees and a couple of old fashions. Highly recommend the place - it's a small space with a good, classic NYC vibe. read more

My friend who is a West Village resident wanted to take me here as she'd been wanting to try it and I was in town from California. She could not make reservations as it's such a hot spot right now so we got there at 4:45 to wait in line and hope we could get seated. We were fifth in line and we're able to get right in with two seats at the bar as long as we were done by 6:30 p.m. which was plenty of time. The hostess was super friendly and the bartenders and wait staff were great! Despite the menu being smaller than most restaurants, the food options were creative and delicious sounding and the drink menu was diverse with something for everybody. I didn't snap pictures of the decor, you can see others here on Yelp but definitely a very cool spot with cool laid-back vibes. You don't have to dress up but if you did you wouldn't be totally out of place either. We got the much talked about cheeseburger as well as the french fries and the Tuna Crudo to start with. The burger meat was seasoned well and the flavor of the tuna was fresh and savory but 1 of the 4 pieces was stringy so that was disappointing. My friend had the white Negroni and liked it and I had the non-alcoholic pina colada which I really liked. Definitely pretty sweet so I ended up pouring some of my water into that. read more

I was in the area and decided to try to get a bar seat on a Sunday evening as a walk in. They were booked for the night but were able to get us a standing spot to grab a drink. We then got lucky and got a bar seat prior to a reservation coming in. The hostess, Victoria, was extremely friendly and helpful. We found the service to be great amongst all the staff. We had a limited time at the bar so we stuck with the burger and fries. The burger was solid, the bun was so fresh and grilled to perfection. We also enjoyed our drinks, the margarita being the favorite. I'd definitely come back to try the steak dinner. read more

The service and vibe at Wild Cherry is 5-star but sadly the food fell a little short. We shared the steak for two--the salad was fine but boring. The steak was cooked to the right temperature but was tough--really tough. The baked potato was good but if I have to tell you that a baked potato is good, it's obvious that I'm looking for something positive to say about the food. Again, the service was outstanding and the vibe was fun. Also, I should mention that they have an interesting cocktail list and some unusual wines by the glass. Oysters were solid and come with 3 little sausages which was a surprise. The scallop w squash was okay but needed some salt and maybe a touch of acid, though the quality was great. So inconsistent. Vibe is immaculate. Staff warm. Batched cocktails (anyone actually making cocktails to order any more?) very fine. Execution of the food is fine, but every dish was left half conceived. Also, stunningly expensive (as are most of these little "hot spots"), which I would be fine had the dishes been finished. Overall a nice experience. The interiors are inviting, maintaining the original character of the place. In Winter weather though it can be rather cool on the inside so dress warm if that's an issue for you. The wine list and drinks were on point. Servers were helpful in suggesting wine based on your order. Service was friendly and attentive. The scungilli was flavorful, briny, acidic all in one. A delight to eat. The frog legs kiev were nice. Kind of like lollipop chicken (if you've never tried frog) and the sauce was a perfect accompaniment. The burger is probably one of the best in the city right now. Great char, soft bun and medium juicy interior. Don't miss out on the kielbasa. It comes on a bed of cabbage and with a side of hot mustard that is awesome. 10/10 - My New Favorite NYC Restaurant! Wild Cherry is special! From the food to the service to the energy, this place has that rare magic that makes you want to come back again and again. From the moment I met Gabrielle, the most gracious hostess with an infectious personality and incredible energy, I knew I was in for something good. She brings fashion, flair, and warmth that immediately set the tone. Once seated, I took in the atmosphere -- vintage but fresh, stylish yet cozy. Wild Cherry has a charm I have not felt in a new NYC restaurant in a long time. Then came the drinks -- and wow. The Old Fashioned (made with banana molasses and mole bitters) is spectacular! Perfectly balanced, creative, and delicious. For food, we started with the Tuna Crudo -- the tuna literally melted in my mouth. The piquillo lemon added a beautiful savory note that made the dish sing. The Caesar Salad was one of the best I have ever had -- the dressing was perfectly proportioned and the sprinkle of sea salt at the end was divine. For mains, we had the Cheeseburger and the Monkfish Kebab -- both were incredible. The cheeseburger is now officially my #1 in NYC. The soft roll, the juicy medium-rare patty, the sweet onions... everything about it was perfection. And please, do not sleep on the monkfish kebabs -- grilled to perfection with chermoula sauce and cilantro that brought everything together beautifully. Overall, Wild Cherry is a 10 out of 10 experience. Gabrielle, Andrea, and Jenna made our evening unforgettable, and the food was top-notch from start to finish.
