Finally made it Fairfax yall. Got my ressy about a month in advance for a Friday brunch. Fairfax is a WV staple & I love the unique decor - they are not trying to be anyone else. For the food, split the burger, tuna sandwich special and petite lettuces. They are known for their burger, was nervous it was going to be too BBQ-forward, but it was very subtle. It was between good & great. My fave was the tuna special - SOO good. It had artichokes and a cheese spread. The flavors were so good - you could taste the olive oil & citrus flavors. Got the petite lettuces for some greens on the side, but definitely overpriced and average. Would go without this. Now need to try for dinner!
A fun gastropub and wine bar with a cozy hipster decor and vibe located in the West Village. While in the area not too long ago we were looking for something a bit different and glad we dropped in. It was crowded for dinner but after a few minutes wait the hostess found us a table. Seating is a bit cramped but we were next to a nice group who we had a fun chat with. We started with the Charred Broccoli which was good, and for mains we chose the Old Bay Tots (Yes!), and both ordered the Bar Sardine Burger (Yum!). Just right for our appetites. Nice service, tasty food, and Tots! What more can you ask for?
Food was great, service was friendly, and the space had an interesting vibe although it was a bit cramped. Steak Tartare ($19) - Really tasty with a nice creamy mayo-like sauce and bread to go with it. Not sure if the portion size really warrants $19, but it was certainly good. Yellowfin Tuna ($30) - This was cooked in an interesting way where the outside rim was cooked and the inside was left rare, making for a super soft and almost creamy consistency that I enjoyed. The herbs paired nicely with the tuna and it was complemented by the fingerling potatoes and onions. Our waiter was friendly and the service overall was fine. The space has some interesting decor to give it some cool character (sort of funky yet elevated pub vibes). The tables were situated very close to each other though and it was rather loud inside. Overall, Fairfax is a very good option for a mid-level formality place in the West Village, although the prices might be a tad on the high end for the portion sizes.
Yes, just yes. Stopped for a table in an absolute rush and I nailed the perfect meal that I wanted - ordered the avocado (side) with the toast (comes with butter and jam), and probably had the best bites to match my espresso. This place is a gem. Staff was fine, a bit cold. Loved the overall vibe though.
Nice brunch spot. Very friendly and attentive service. I'd get the egg sandwich next time. Ty at looks amazing. I got the shrimp and grits special and it was very tasty and filling. Creamy and smooth. Hot. Love the postcard given after. I love when restaurants do that.
Walked in for our 230p reservation and we were seated immediately. Server was attentive and grabbed our drink order quick and also told us about the specials. If I wasn't there to try the burger, I definitely would've tried the special BLT - assuming they have specials regularly, they sound like they might be worth trying. Ordered the burger and old pay tots, everything was delicious! It's the Bar Sardine burger and while not traditional, it was absolutely delicious. Music was really good too. Will be back!
I had brunch at Fairfax on my birthday this past Sunday, and I adored it. The restaurant is cozy and understated, cool without trying too hard. I loved sitting on my little stool looking out of the window into the the Village. I imagine on a pretty day, sitting outside would be great, too. The service was also top notch. But I have to say the five stars is really because of the food. I'm often bored by brunch - the same dishes on every menu, the same cocktail - whatever is trendiest at the moment. But I wasn't bored at Fairfax. Not at all. There were several tempting dishes on the menu, but I couldn't resist their breakfast barley (roast chicken, Parmesan, poached eggs, and scallions) and one of their specials (a fancy take on pigs in a blanket). Both dishes were great, but the breakfast barley was one the best brunch dishes I've had in a while. My husband and I loved it so much, we attempted our own version when we got home after the weekend. It was savory and warm and a hug in a bowl. My husband also ordered their Old Bay tots, which he loved. We also got two of their Bloody Marys - Bloody Mary No. 4 - "the classic, served Wisco-style with a beer back." Great Bloody Mary, and I loved the beer back with it. Just what I needed (I had a slight hangover from three drinks the night before because I'm getting old) with brunch. Then, with a cappuccino to finish, a perfect meal. I loved this brunch. I'd repeat it next weekend if I could. I'd love to return. In the meantime, we'll be trying to make a bowl of barley half as good as Fairfax's.
We got seated within 5 mins with no reservation on memorial day. We tried the burger, egg sandwich, and tots. Everything was pretty good and it was nice to sit outside and people watch. We only had an hour before the next reservation but didn't feel rushed at all
Very cute place well organized, and fairly priced. The food is also excellent and so is the service and specially the service , our server Kate made all the difference. The bartender made an amazing whiskey sour as well The missing star is for the very limited menu
This has to be the most overhyped and overrated burger place in NYC. Burger was dry and mid. The tator tots were standard - not sure why its called old bay. At least brunch vibes are immaculate and service was good. The highlight of my trip to this restaurant is that I literally ran into Bill Gates and his daughter outside the restaurant afterwards!
30 min wait on a saturday morning for lunch (not bad!). Service was just fine, and the space was a little cramped (on par for the rest of the west village lol), but the decor was awesome! The food was outstanding for a lunch - not too heavy which I really appreciated. We actually didn't get the burger even though that's definitely the move, but don't sleep on the other dishes here! The salad with shrimp was fantastic and generous on the shrimp. Dad loved the latkes and salmon dish. Of course, the famous old bay tots were perfect. I would come back to just get tots and a drink as a snack ngl I would come back if I ever needed a lunch spot in the west village for sure.
Fairfax offers one of the best burgers in the city at a very affordable price. The space gets crowded especially for brunch and you should get a reservation to avoid waiting an hour plus on the weekend. We had; Burger From Bar Sardine - excellent, it's worth going to Fairfax just for this. Egg Sandwich - served with country ham and cheddar, good. Old Bay Tots - must order to accompany burger. Toast - served with soft butter and an excellent strawberry jam. Service was on point and very fast.
It's my new favorite spot in the city! It was so cute and intimate! It's the perfect spot for a casual yet elevated date night! It was so warm and cozy inside. It's perfect for fall! The service was lovely and the food came out in record time! We got the fish special as well as the mussels and both were so delicious! I had a dirty martini and absolutely no complaints there! It was so good! And bonus points, they have matchbooks! I would totally go back!

Who says you can't have a burger at brunch?? Certainly not Fairfax. Precisely why it's a neighborhood staple. Not too difficult to get a reservation here and they have the service to a T. Great bustling atmosphere, tables are close but not too close together. What we ordered: The Burger: medium rare patty with bbq mayo, cheddar, crispy potatoes, and red onion. Buns are super thin and they don't mess around w adding veggies for 'balance'. It's officially #pubburgersummer Quiche: with smoked cheddar and spinach. The arugula salad that it was served with was unfortunately left untouched (we had other priorities on the table) Old bay tots: So crispy and well-seasoned. popular place in the west village known for their unique burger. i was let down by the burger but i think that's a me problem. the tiny potatoes and sauce weren't my vibe but i loved the thin squished bun. annoys me when you have to pay for bread and butter like cmon. mussels were icky - definitely don't order those. the cocktail and zucchini were good though. our waitress was a doll! so lovely. let us try some orange wine. we walked in on a friday night around 6pm and sat right down outside. read more

My friends and I stopped at Fairfax on a rainy Wednesday evening for drinks and appetizers before our dinner reservation elsewhere. Although the restaurant was packed, we were seated quickly outside under the awning. The awning provided sufficienct coverage from the drizzle and the nearby heat lamps made us feel warm & dry. Along with a few glasses of wine, we shared the bread and butter, old bay tots, and spinach artichoke dip. All the appetizers were tasty - especially the old bay tots! Somehow they had the perfect savory crunch! read more

We originally planned to go to Breakfast by Salt's Cure, but the line was way too long--so we came here for brunch instead, and I'm so glad we did. Everything was absolutely delicious! We arrived at 10am on a Sunday and were seated right away. Our server was warm, attentive, and had fantastic recommendations. The Breakfast Barley was both flavorful and filling, and the coffee hit the spot. Everyone at our table loved their dishes, and the cozy atmosphere made it the perfect spot for a rainy New York morning. Would absolutely come back! read more
This was an amazing non pretentious restaurant. My daughter raved about the burgers and they were great! However I had the Milanese, a unique recipe, chicken tender on inside, outside crisp. Sitting in a creamy slightly spiced sauce... a game changer on this traditional dish! read more

Walked in on a holiday weekend around 2pm and we sat at the bar. Hunter the bar tender was great we grabbed some drinks and shared some tots. Just stopped by for a dirty martini while showing my boyfriend the city ! Loved how intimate the bar was and everyone was super friendly ! Will recommend!! Pains me to do this because this place serves nothing but absolute bangers for lunch, but....dinner was a huge disappointment. As always ambiance and service were great, but the food just wasn't there. Mussels weren't cleaned well and lacked flavor, gnocchi was just not enjoyable, even the fries were soggy and bad. I came in for the old fashioned and was NOT disappointed. It's an incredible drink and I would highly recommend if in the area. The inside of Fairfax is extremely quaint and cute. We got dinner here and had such a nice time in the bar area. The service was great and the food came out extremely fast. I'm never a fan of not having water and they were quick on everything. Returned for lunch on a weekday and had a flat white, then shared the burger, fries and heirloom tomatoes with a friend. The burger was amazing, so they'd keep my 5 stars for that alone... but the food took foreverrrr and I'm docking a star because our servers did not acknowledge this at all or act otherwise attentive while we waited. read more
Awesome burger. Shame it doesn't come with sides. Moules frittes missed. Moules were gritty and fries were average. Loved the citrus fennel garnish though - that should be a side on its own. Server was friendly but all over the place. She didn't fully know the dessert menu. Speed of food prepared was very good considering how packed they were. Loved the atmosphere and interior decor. I came to Fairfax for a Sunday brunch. This cute restaurant is located in the heart of West Village, just a few steps away from the 1 train station, and decorated with a variety of different paintings, posters, items, etc. Their brunch menu isn't the largest but it features the classic options. I saw on Beli that they were known for their burger so I had to order it. I was immediately blown away when I took my first bite - this was definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had. It's definitely a bit saucy and juicy though so I'd have some napkins on hand! We also ordered the olive oil cake as part of a birthday celebration. This cake was topped with a whipped cream and blueberry compote. Wow! This cake wasn't free as desserts usually are for birthdays at other restaurants, but honestly it was so good that both my friend and I were willing to pay for it. We devoured this cake LOL. Our waitress was also super sweet. I asked her about the decorations and apparently the owner of the restaurant is from Fairfax, Virginia, which is where I was born and raised as well! Chic, inviting west village brunch bar perfect for repeat friend hangouts, complete with a comforting yet unique menu, excellent service, and well executed dishes. We arrived for brunch and were promptly served just minutes after ordering. The Burger from Bar Sardine retains its uniqueness with smashed patties and amazingly delicious crispy onion. The tots seasoned with old bay were a welcome complement. The everything bagel was solid, primarily uplifted by the toppings, but sat in the shadows of the burger. So a friend and I went in here on Friday of last week that would be the 20 something of September. We walked in the door we were greeted by young lady. She showed us the menu for some strange reason. Don't know why. Then she asked if we were sure that we wanted to eat there. That should have tipped me off. Maybe she thought a little Italian man and a black older woman couldn't afford to go in. She wasn't very friendly, just off. She put us at a table no back chairs. I asked if she had a table with backs. She said just the bar even though I seen two unbused tables. We just said fine. Didnt bring any water to us but noticed that she gave other people coming in water and she bussed the tables. Bartender was friendly still no water. Finally got a bottle to serve ourselves. Menu was bizarre because it didn't have much and it's not even on the website menu section lol. I had two Manhattan and my friend she had two last words. She had their famous burger. Definitely tiny and we shared an order of tater tots lol with some old bay seasoning. I had some dip with cream cheese with ritz crackers to dip but not enough to finish the dip. I made it when I was in high school. The bar menu is not even on the website. Very bizarre behavior though. The place left a bad taste in my mouth. Other than the bartenders I would not recommend the place to anyone. Money isn't even the issue because I have plenty of it. I'm a chef. So unfortunately I'm most restaurants worse nightmare. I have standards and feel that they definitely weren't met here from the beginning. read more
Made a reservation at Fairfax purely for the burger (it's my favorite food!) since I heard so much hype about it. My friend and I had a brunch reservation on the weekend and were seated quickly at a small table upon arrival. We ended up ordering the Quiche, Old Bay Tots, and Fairfax Burger. The Quiche was decent and large in portion size, the tots were well seasoned and crispy, and the burger was just as juicy as we imagined it to be. We do have to dock a star though because the burger doesn't come with any sides -- $19 is a steep price for just the burger. Overall we had a good experience here. We were seated near the door on a cold winter day so we had to endure some chilly gusts of wind, but other than that service and ambiance was up to standard! read more
Was finally able to score a reservation here for dinner tonight, so I came for an early meal after work. We started with a couple of Hugo spritzes which were so delicious and refreshing! We shared the charred broccoli to start and each ordered the burger and shared fries. The broccoli was good but was a tad crunchy, but the whipped feta dip underneath with the hot oil was yummy. There is a lot of hype around this burger, and it was good but I've definitely had better in the city. The sauce is delicious, and the patty itself was cooked to perfection, but the bun was different. The service was great, and the inside is super cute too. I'm not racing to come back, but I would never turn down the opportunity! read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday around 11am. Definitely got lucky by getting a table without a reservation! Table was unfortunately by the door so it was a bit cold throughout the whole meal. It would've been a 45 minute wait for a table. Some people were crazy enough to sit outside in the cold! Their outdoor huts looked really cute but not sure how warm it was inside of them. We shared the omelette, burger and side of tots. The tots were so good! Nice and crispy! You get a huge bowl of them that several people could share. The omelette was with goat cheese and Brussel sprouts. There were shavings of the sprouts on top of the omelette but not inside, just lots of cheese inside. We added an over easy egg to the burger and it was a gooey, delicious mess! In hindsight though we realized we couldn't even tell if the burger was good because its flavor was hidden by all the toppings. My friend thought the sauce on it made it taste like a Burger King burger. Overall the meal with a coffee came to about $50. Drinks will definitely make your meal pricier. I think a Bloody Mary or mimosa was about $17 and they were served in very small glasses! The decor is very country. I felt like I could be in the Catskills. read more

Sat at the bar on a busy Tuesday night. Service was prompt and enjoyed the drinks! Fig toast to start was delicious. Had to try the burger here given all the hype and it definitely delivered! For the price I was a little surprised to see it didn't come with any fries on the side so we got the tots on the side as well. Not pictured here but also got the bowl of greens - good flavors but definitely came way overdressed. Otherwise all in all a good meal. read more
I love when food lives up to the hype and I must say, this burger definitely just hit my top 5. It is a unique take on a burger with a smashed bun, the crispy potato element and of course delicious cheese and bbq sauce. It is an unforgettable bite and I'm glad I was able to sneak to the bar to try it. The restaurant itself I would define as cozy chic. It makes you want to curl up and read a book with a hot toddy, but look cute while you're doing it. It feels like an elevated neighborhood spot. Very homey but still nice. Since I've been dying to come here, I also tried a few other things. The pork jowl- I think this was user error because I asked the bartender to explain what this looked like and if it was an appetizer. It was good, but just not what I was expecting. It felt like a red pepper soup with corn cake and pulled pork- which is essentially what it was. For a meal for one, it was too much food for me BUT the flavors were good. Maybe I can't consume that much food anymore but I could have had this be my whole meal. The drink was STRONG and delicious. Perfect for the cold night that it was. Service was great, the bartender was very friendly. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend trying the burger. 4.6/5 read more
