It was crowded for dinner but after a few minutes wait the hostess found us a table. Seating is a bit cramped but we were next to a nice group who we had a fun chat with. Steak Tartare ($19) - Really tasty with a nice creamy mayo-like sauce and bread to go with it. Not sure if the portion size really warrants $19, but it was certainly good. Yellowfin Tuna ($30) - This was cooked in an interesting way where the outside rim was cooked and the inside was left rare, making for a super soft and almost creamy consistency that I enjoyed. The herbs paired nicely with the tuna and it was complemented by the fingerling potatoes and onions. Our waiter was friendly and the service overall was fine. The space has some interesting decor to give it some cool character (sort of funky yet elevated pub vibes). The tables were situated very close to each other though and it was rather loud inside. I had brunch at Fairfax on my birthday this past Sunday, and I adored it. The restaurant is cozy and understated, cool without trying too hard. I loved sitting on my little stool looking out of the window into the the Village. I imagine on a pretty day, sitting outside would be great, too. The service was also top notch. But I have to say the five stars is really because of the food. I'm often bored by brunch - the same dishes on every menu, the same cocktail - whatever is trendiest at the moment. But I wasn't bored at Fairfax. Not at all. There were several tempting dishes on the menu, but I couldn't resist their breakfast barley (roast chicken, Parmesan, poached eggs, and scallions) and one of their specials (a fancy take on pigs in a blanket). Both dishes were great, but the breakfast barley was one the best brunch dishes I've had in a while. My husband and I loved it so much, we attempted our own version when we got home after the weekend. It was savory and warm and a hug in a bowl. My husband also ordered their Old Bay tots, which he loved. We also got two of their Bloody Marys - Bloody Mary No. 4 - "the classic, served Wisco-style with a beer back." Great Bloody Mary, and I loved the beer back with it. Just what I needed (I had a slight hangover from three drinks the night before because I'm getting old) with brunch. Then, with a cappuccino to finish, a perfect meal. I loved this brunch. I'd repeat it next weekend if I could. I'd love to return. Definitely tiny and we shared an order of tater tots lol with some old bay seasoning. I had some dip with cream cheese with ritz crackers to dip but not enough to finish the dip. I made it when I was in high school. The bar menu is not even on the website. Very bizarre behavior though. The place left a bad taste in my mouth. Other than the bartenders I would not recommend the place to anyone. Money isn't even the issue because I have plenty of it. I'm a chef. So unfortunately I'm most restaurants worse nightmare. Came here for brunch on a Sunday around 11am. Definitely got lucky by getting a table without a reservation! Table was unfortunately by the door so it was a bit cold throughout the whole meal. It would've been a 45 minute wait for a table. Some people were crazy enough to sit outside in the cold! Their outdoor huts looked really cute but not sure how warm it was inside of them. We shared the omelette, burger and side of tots. The tots were so good! Nice and crispy! You get a huge bowl of them that several people could share. The omelette was with goat cheese and Brussel sprouts. There were shavings of the sprouts on top of the omelette but not inside, just lots of cheese inside. We added an over easy egg to the burger and it was a gooey, delicious mess! In hindsight though we realized we couldn't even tell if the burger was good because its flavor was hidden by all the toppings. My friend thought the sauce on it made it taste like a Burger King burger. Overall the meal with a coffee came to about $50. Drinks will definitely make your meal pricier.
