I walked to Whisk in downtown Richmond while out on a stroller walk with my daughter. They had a great display of pastries, and I chose a strawberry lemon muffin. It was delicious and moist, and it had a lemon glaze on it. It was so hard to decide what to pick! Everything looked very good! I'd like to come back and try more options. Service was easy at the counter, and I took the muffin to go. There are some tables and chairs inside the bakery if you prefer to eat there. A note on accessibility: there is a ~5in step to get into the bakery, so I had to lift the front of the stroller. And the door to get in is a narrow double door. Someone on the inside had to unlatch the second door so that our stroller could fit. I think it would be difficult for someone who uses a wheelchair to access the bakery. read more

The service is 0 for 4. The staff is rude and it's a different issue every time. I've been charged $13 for a ham and cheese croissant because they didn't "have a button to ring it in properly." I've been given roast beef and told it was ham by another staff member saying "ham turns brown when you heat it up." I've witnessed gossip about customers at the register, arguments between staff while I'm waiting for my food and being told they don't have an item I'm looking directly at. Maybe it's the age of the staff members or the lack of overall experience, knowledge, consideration...pick one, but the service alone keeps me from coming back to this quaint, local bakery. read more

Whisk sits on the corner of E. Main Street in Richmond, marked by a big black-and-white logo painted on the brick and a stunning portrait mural wrapping the side of the building. You can't miss it. Step inside and the corner location pays off -- gorgeous afternoon light pouring through a row of vintage stained glass set above the front windows, throwing color all over the pink-and-white interior. Chandelier with little fabric shades, topiary along the ledge, counter seating to watch the street. Charming spot. One small heads-up: the menu is a digital screen, and it wasn't working when I visited -- so you're ordering a bit blind, leaning on the bakery case and whatever the staff can tell you. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing going in. And you're really here for the baked goods, which hold up. The kouign-amann was the standout -- deeply caramelized, lacquered, shatteringly flaky with that signature sugar crust. I also grabbed two macarons (a berry-pink one and a teal with chocolate filling) that were exactly right: crisp shell, chewy center, generous filling. No complaints. The case is stocked with range -- lemon bars, quiche, chocolate cherry walnut cookies, confetti sandwich cookies, Florentines, a vegan peanut butter option, pineapple upside-down, and more. Plenty of GF and vegan labeling, which is nice to see. You can watch them pulling fresh trays from the proofer behind the counter. A few other notes: it's a small operation, so selection depends on what's come out of the oven that day, and the working area behind the counter is tight and a little cluttered (charming, but not polished). Corner parking is street-only and that intersection gets busy. Bottom line -- a genuinely good Richmond bakery with real pastry chops and a beautiful corner space. This was the perfect stop during my day trip in Richmond. The interior is such an awesome vibe. Located in the corner, the interior boasts whites, blacks and wood. Their coffees, lattes and other drinks really are perfect! They are perfectly made and hit the spot. I devoured a sandwich whole there and enjoyed a latte. The bread was fresh, lettuce was crisp and the tomato was ripe. They also have a nice selection of hot tea. There is seating available or you can take your treats to go. Cute little coffee shop and bakery with friendly associates and mediocre sandwiches. I decided to stop in for lunch on a rainy Saturday. There were quite a few people sitting on their computers when I walked in. I opted for a Parisian sandwich: ham and cheese on a baguette with mustard butter. To say the sandwich was underwhelming would be an understatement. The ham and cheese were tasty, but the mustard butter was slathered on the bread and was definitely more butter than mustard. Perhaps most disappointing was the bread, that was soggy and actually stale on the edge where it had been cut, not crunchy like real baguettes should be. I wish I had visited this place earlier during my vacation. It has the best croissants and coffee in downtown Richmond. The croissants are freshly baked in the facility, and I especially enjoyed the ham and cheese croissant. I also indulged in a Caramel iced latte, which was surprisingly strong (which aligned with my preference), and a triple chocolate brownie, which was so fudgy and delightful. My husband got an Iced matcha latte, which he thought was very light, with the right amount of sweetness. Sundays mornings before church we always like to try new coffee shops we haven't been to yet. So this morning, we decided to give Whisk a try. F O O D + S E R V I C E While we ordered, the barista (pictured) was extremely rude to us. I asked for a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich and she went to check if they had any bacon in stock. When coming back to register, she didn't let us know if she had any left and proceeded to ask again, what sandwich I wanted. So of course I repeated myself. And she gave me an irritated look and then said "No, we're out of bacon so it's either egg and cheese or ham, egg, and cheese." I will say, the ham, egg, and cheese croissants we had were pretty good! C O F F E E The coffee on the other hand.. I had the Mistletoe Latte and my boyfriend had a black coffee. Whisk is such a vibe! This rustic little café has such curb appeal & character! From the big pano windows to the incredible breathtaking art out front! Once inside there is a cozy cafe front with a menu hung on the wall as well as a display case filled with yummy pastries, cookies & more ! The staff were super friendly & very knowledgeable on menu items, their recommendations were spot on for what I was craving ! I got a pumpkin spice latte with their orange dream macaron cookie! A long overdue review for one of my favorite bakeries. They keep their social media up to date and have online ordering during the week. Their indoor seating is open again, though the space can be small depending on how busy they are. WiFi is available. I've had countless pastries and desserts and have never been disappointed. My favorites are kouign amann, ham and swiss croissant, and the macarons. They have amazing croissant breakfast sandwiches on the weekend - they sell out quick so go early if you want one. I'm not a huge coffee drinker but I've been loving their seasonal cold brew cold foams - cereal milk, strawberry milkshake, pumpkin cream, and gingerbread cream to name a few over the past year. read more

I ordered my usual iced vanilla latte and 2 baked goods. The coffee itself was actually pretty good! However, the baked goods were honestly the star of the show. The blueberry muffin was a 10/10 so soft and moist. The coffee cake wasn't as flavorful but still very soft! It just didn't have the cinnamon component I was looking for. I found this place when leaving the airport and i am so glad I stopped in! It was the perfect post-travel mid-day pick me up. The croissant was heavily loaded with almond cream and the croissant was perfectly crisp and flakey. The cold brew was bold, but not overpowering. In an effort to find parking for the Poe Museum, we stumbled on this corner bakery. I saw macarons in the window and knew we had to stop. Due to the size of the macarons, we opted to split one. I went to whisk this morning for the first time since it changed owners in 2022 and boy was I disappointed. First thing I noticed was a new pastry case awkwardly shoved into the room. It was full of, what looked to be, mass produced bakery products. There were giant artificially colored macaroons, cake balls, and suspiciously perfectly square brownies. This tipped me off that the days of baked from scratch were gone. The other thing I noticed right away was that they now use Monin brand coffee syrups instead of house made syrups. We did order a "French bun" because we were already there, it was very aggressively sweet. I couldn't taste anything but sweetness. I don't recommend whisk especially when our city has so many amazing bakeries that do make their own product. read more

We are disappointed with our experience at Whisk. Because of the high reviews and photos on Yelp, we were very excited to try the macarons and a treat or two. We were thrown off when we arrived at the Staples Mill location to find it closed for renovations. We then drove 15 more minutes to go to the E Main St. location, just to spend 15 more minutes finding a place to park. After finally parking, we entered the building to be greeted by no one. We didn't get a hello, a hi can I help you, or anything. She just looked at us. There was literally only two kinds of macarons in the case, not all of those different flavors shown in most pictures. The birthday cake flavor macaron, were good, but the other treats we got were not good at all. At 2pm everything was very cold, almost as if they were once frozen. Nonetheless, we feel deceived by the reviews and photos. When the Staples Mill location reopens we would love to give it another try, however we will never again visit the E Main St. location. To rap this up, the main reason we went was for macarons and the one flavor we tried was good. We would like to try the Staples Mill location and other flavors, preferably not cold or frozen. But based on this experience, we don't recommend. read more

I enjoyed Whisk and would come again but wasn't super impressed as I had expected. First of all Whisk is always running out of seasonal items - this was our third time here early on a Tuesday and we finally snagged the seasonal croissant. Usually by 11am on a weekend they have run out of almost everything, and we had to find other places to eat. I understand it's a small spot but the inventory / quantity estimation could be better. We tried the Veggie sandwich (on a croissant instead of baguette) and the seasonal Broccoli Cheddar croissant. I got a small caramel latte with almond milk. Veggie sandwich was decent - I liked the cream cheese and sauce inside but the majority of the sandwich was haphazardly thick cut tomatoes and bagged lettuce - I'm honestly almost ALWAYS disappointed by vegetarian options at small breakfast sandwich places, because they think throwing together tomato lettuce and a tiny schmear of cream cheese on bread counts as a great veggie breakfast sandwich. This could have been elevated with gooey melted cheddar or swiss, caramelized onions, crispy potatoes, veggie sausage, literally even just more variety of veggies (sprouts, red onions, spinach, avocado) - kind of disappointing. Going with the croissant was a good idea as it was flaky and crispy and the baguette would probably have been tough and hard to eat. The seasonal Broccoli Cheddar croissant was delicious, especially the filling in the middle, but was kind of small. Coffee was good as well and pretty standard. Overall for the price ($23) we got a tiny tasty croissant, small disappointing sandwich, and a standard 12oz latte - kind of pricey as well. Good, fast service and solid seasonal items that we'll likely be back to try more of when the option changes, but did not live up to being as amazing as the hype Whisk gets in my opinion! read more
