Had a hankering for eggs benedict this morning and of course chose Wheatfields! The last two times have been yummy, delicious, filling... you get the point. Today was a sad day for me and my eggs benedict. After a long time waiting for our food (which we were told was because of the fried chicken) and no refills on our drinks, I was ready for my decadent crab cake with creamy hollandaise sauce (extra sauce). It lacked y'all. The whole dish was warm, not hot, the crab cake was greasy, the tomatoes were limp and still had the stem on them and I didn't get my extra sauce. With all that said, I was really only upset with the sauce (which I got after asking). The kiddo got fried chicken with fries. This is the first time she had honey on her fried chicken and wasn't a fan (the hubs didn't like that it was sticky). The fries had a lot of seasoning, this made it so the hubs liked it and the kiddo didn't. On the upside, the hubs really liked his burrito and smashed it. Overall, some of the issues we had were personal and not Wheatfields' fault. So, I'm still going to come back and get me some eggs benedict. Happy eating Yelpers! read more

We threw a bridal shower at this Establishment today and we're totally discussed by the behavior of the owners wife because we were told we could move 2 tables. Who comes in during a bridal shower and causes a scene? How disgusting! The owners wife should be fired! Never will we use or eat at this Establishment again! Shane on her! I am also tired of the short staff issue being blamed for bad behavior! How they are still in business, I have no idea! Wheatfields, what happened? First let me preface by saying I've been going to this location for years and NEVER had a bad meal... Until today. Thus the 3 stars...I spilt the difference. Food: Ordered fish and chips, spouse ordered fisherman's platter... Two wrongs did NOT make a right. Both cold, old chips/waffle fries, terrible fish... I've had better fish out of a frozen box with a sea captain on the front. We must've made the wrong choice because the food around us looked way more edible. But then again, don't serve it if you know it's no good. Value:. Prices are so crazy right now I'm not sure about the value. I would not pay for this again, so essentially bad value for the quality of the food. Service: I wanna give her grace, but it seemed like her first day. No welcome by the waitress, we had to set our own table, as the menus and rolled silverware were just plunked down and left by the host. There weren't that many tables occupied so no excuses. Service, just OK. Overall: We will come back, maybe not order anything from the lunch menu though. Not only tasty, but a staple of Omaha for all meals. I always enjoy the food, and my wife says it's been great for a long time. Oddly, we saw some drama today with some couple skipping out on their bill. Staff handled it beautifully and didn't miss a beat. Service is quite good and very friendly. No obsequious. Genuinely warm and courteous. Staff is diverse and professional. All this, and an EXCELLENT bakery! Worth repeat visits. read more

This bakery-restaurant should probably stick to the bakery side. After being seated we waited for the server. And waited. And waited... After getting the cranky hostess's attention our server was attentive and pleasant. Our server suggested the tropical iced tea. The only thing tropical about it was the orange segment. I'd asked for a lemon but, hey, sometimes you have to live on the wild side. My husband hat the hot roast beef. It was smothered in gravey. He said it was ok. I had the Reuben. It was advertised as triple decker and for the life of me I do not know why. Bread, bread, bread, bread. I asked for it extra toasted. It wasn't. The corned beef was flavorable. The swiss cheese was skimpy and when I removed the middle layer of bread, most of it came off. The kraut was limp and flavorless. Oddly, there was a fourth piece of bread under the sandwich. I have no idea what it was for. The sandwichs were ala carte and $13.95 each. No frys or chips. There were a few pickles with the Ruben. I suggest they eliminate 2 pieces of bread and add chips. Very disappointed in the service. I met a friend for lunch today to celebrate a birthday. We sat in the indoor patio area. Our waiter seemed uninterested in serving us. He was pleasant when we waived him down and ordered. A while later the patio was emptying out and my friend and I were finishing our dessert and an employee actually turned out the lights and turned off the ceiling fans! No one mentioned that they were closing the section and we needed to leave. I mentioned it to the waiter, and he said oh yes, we do that when we are preparing to close. It was so rude!! It had been a while since I had eaten there, and I remembered it as a fun place to celebrate special occasions with my friends. Not so much anymore. I won't be back :( So disappointed! read more

Horrible customers service. I confirmed the morning of my cake pickup that I would pick up at 5:30 after work. I got a call at 2:25 saying they were closing early and that I would have to pick up the cake before 4. The manager was clueless and had no solution as to how to get the cake picked up or if it could be delivered. He then told me he had a delivery service for $100. After no solutions I asked him to call be back when he had a solution as I was busy at work. I called him back and he did offer to meet me at 5:30. When picking it up he had a ton of excuses as to why they closed on short notice but no apology. Just not great customers service at all. read more

Wheatfields is definitely a YES! I had the opportunity to frequent this place a couple of times while in the area. First time was for breakfast in the restaurant. My mouth is watering as I reflect back on my breakfast. First who serves dessert appetizers with breakfast? They do and I ain't the least bit mad about it. The cherry strudel found itself in front of me first. It was fresh, sweet and delicious. I tried to not eat it all to save room for breakfast. I'm glad I did, save room that is, because the Egg Stratta was much better than I could have even hoped for. It was my first time ever having a Stratta and I'm very funny about eggs so I wasn't sure what to egg-spect. All I can say is I will be back again for yet another. I normally don't eat Hollandaise because it doesn't seem to match the dishes they are served with but in this case, not only was it the perfect match but it was absolutely delectable. The dish was accompanied by baked apples. Wait! Didn't I just have a cherry strudel? Sshhh I won't tell if you don't. Besides, I was on vacation and was heading to the zoo so there was plenty of time to walk it off. If you are feeling guilty about eating both, take an after break or early afternoon walk in the park but don't miss out on this absolutely fabulous breakfast entree. I neglected to mention that waiter was great and service was fast. I hate that I forgot the waiter's name (Francisco ?). I returned one night and picked up a jar of Sangria from the bakery to go with dinner. I could not leave town without taking some of the baked goods back home with me. There are SO many to choose from. I picked up some jalapeño bread, a slice of Strawberry Wedding Cake and a couple slices of cheesecake. I didn't eat any but those that did had raving reviews of the desserts. Wheatfields save me a seat, I will be back soon! What can I say? The food was mediocre and outrageously priced, the server didn't even introduce herself or even smile at us, she wasn't knowledgeable about the options for food and I ended up overspending for a whole plate that could've been ordered as a side, she brought me the wrong version of creme brûlée? She brought me a potato brûlée... and once again I don't want to assume she was being racist, BUT I am latina and wouldn't be surprised considering the things I've heard about the owner of Wheatfields! As I was about to leave and walk out the door, the host anf Manager "Ron" who sat me came up to me and apologized for the meal. He apologized for not having the bread because of their end of the month bakery sale. He said it gets crazy. He then gave me a $15 gift certificate card to come back. He said to please try it again when they have the correct bread. I thanked him and told him I would be back. My concern is that the meat needed more than bread. It needed seasoned and to be moist. As I always do, I'll give it a second go because of their efforts to make things right. They were very professional and nice about it. read more

However, it cost us about twice a normal "going out to breakfast" outing at a sit down breakfast joint in this economy. Overpriced and undersized. This is an update to my Easter review which I obviously got over as I still stop in here from time to time mainly for their soup to go. I love their tomato cheese soup and the french onion is pretty good as well. Their others always sound good but when I sample them they ALWAYS have potatoes in them. I get it...potatoes are a cheap filler but do they belong in soups like chicken noodle soup? Well I guess corn doesn't either but that is in there as well. Weird they do this to many of their soups. Stopped in today to get a fresh bowl of french onion soup to go and a bowl of tomato cheese soup which was in their leftover refrigerated section. I was given 1 small pack of crackers and when I asked for extra I was told I had to purchase them at .40 cents a piece! What? Who does that? I guess it's the Wheatfield's way! read more

Popped into Wheatfields today for a quick work breakfast so that's why there are no photos. Overall Wheatfields is just fine in my opinion. They are not great. Nothing fancy. Just basic breakfast items and baked goods. To give some perspective I'm really more of a First Watch kind of guy. I do appreciate the wide variety at Wheatfields and the abundance of gluten free options. I won't go here often but I don't mind when I do. I have been here several times over the years and always has been a good meal, friendly staff and good experiences. read more

I bought a Chocolate Cream Cheese cake from Wheatfields for wife's birthday and it ended up very disappointing. I thought it would be very moist for how much it cost. It was the driest cake I've ever purchased. I love the Strawberry Wedding cake that they sell, but since my wife prefers chocolate, I thought I'd get that type of cake. You would think a bakery would always have delicious moist cakes, especially for what they charge. I know I could bake a moist cake from a box myself, but I thought I'd do something special for a special occasion. I like their breads, too, such as banana nut bread, pumpkin bread or zucchini bread, but the entire rack was empty and none to be had. I feel the bakery for Wheatfield's use to be their best feature. I feel I will try other bakeries in the future. read more

If I could give a half star, I would. Today on April 23rd, my family and I gathered for what should've been a joyous breakfast celebration for my uncles 50th birthday. However, the unpleasant attitude on the part of Ruth Ann, the owner, reaffirmed why I don't frequent or patronize this establishment very often. God bless the waitress who single-handedly did her best to accommodate a party of 18...yes, a party of 18 all by herself. At no point, did we ever see anyone assist in bringing her drinks or our food-she had to bring out our meals 2-3 plates at a time and never offered us refills on drinks. I'm sure she was overwhelmed, but that is the fault of management for giving her such a large order with no assistance. We waited from 10:00 to 10:45 to be seated and did not receive our order until 12:30-the last person to be served was my toddler. The silverware rolled in the napkin was dirty...it was a complete mess. I did ask to speak with the manager and told our waitress, that this wasn't her fault but our experience was subpar. When RuthAnn did finally come to oblige my request to speak with her, the disdain for our party was glaringly apparent. I told her my Mrs. Stratbucks omelet was without asparagus and was cold and the sausage we ordered was totally pink. Her response was "I see asparagus" and "that's too bad" regarding the sausage. I told her I understood the staffing shortage, but it was ridiculous to have 1 waitress to serve 18 people and she just shrugged. She avoided eye contact pretty much the entire time I was addressing her and asked "if I was finished with that" as she hastily took our plates away after I told her I would not pay for my cold meal and pink sausages, but would pay for the other 3 meals. She never offered an apology or seemed the least bit concerned with any of our concerns-even a lackluster apology would've been appreciated.  She literally did not care and made it very apparent. On our way out, I asked someone in the bakery who the woman was in the white sweater and was shocked when she said Ruthann the owner. My entire family felt disrespected and her condescending demeanor solidified the other poor reviews that talk about bland food, terrible service, and the owners atrocious attitude. We learned our lessons and will never again spend a dime at this establishment. Shame on you Ruthann for being such a nasty woman. I'm not sure if this is your usual demeanor when interacting with customers or if you typically work behind the scenes and handle financials, but in my opinion, stick to the latter. read more

If you are thinking about ordering any of the scramblers, don't. Wheatfields eatery has the worst breakfast ever. I ordered one of the scramblers, and I could've went into that kitchen and cooked something way better than whatever I got. Cinnamon rolls were hella mid I tried a little plate mixer and they were just okay. That could be because I do not like super sweet stuff, or because it's just subpar. Also waitress seemed very annoyed and didn't care too much about us it felt like. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt though because if I worked at a place with that MID of a scrambler I would be pissed too. Personally not worth the money. read more

Fallen from its peak as a historically wonderful eatery, Wheatfields is now a shell of itself with food reminiscent of your school cafeteria, coffee that you can see through, and dated interior seating. Wait staff look like they are trying hard to make up for the sub-par experience but that only goes so far. The bakery goods are still wonderful, so maybe save your brunch experience for better options like the Farmhouse or Early Bird, and use Wheatfields as your place for buns and pies only. read more

I tend to wonder what the hype really is about this place. Does it remind people of Homestyle cooking? Are they really deceived into thinking it is amazing? Ah.. it pains my foodie heart. FOOD : well, you saw this coming. It truly was nothing spectacular.. at all. You get 7 pages of options which in and of itself says something (they throw it all together and don't specialize in much). I opted to make my own omelet and just hope for the best. I asked for no cheese, (lactose hollaaa), it came with about 2 inches of cheese on top. They took it back and I waited for about 10 minutes until they brought out a new one. This was your average joe omelet, unfortunately had to pay for it even though it was pretty uneventful. I ate more onions than I think I did egg. I asked for toast, and that didn't come out for another 15-20 min... it was only one piece of toast, but I suppose they get busy. The salads are GIGANTIC, if you want a salad to be "healthy," this place is not for you. The salad's are enough for 3-4 people.. at least. This place specializes in comfort food. They do it the American way and give you 2-3 servings in one plate and call it ok. If you like greasy fried food, I guess you can travel over here. I'm sure their pastries are .. decent. ATMOSPHERE : it feels light and airy, but the place itself is quite dirty. Don't get me started on the bathrooms. The atmosphere is over crowded and loud. There is nothing peaceful or serene about it. They have a sunroom which is cute .. SERVICE : we had a kind and adaptable waiter. He was probably stressed I'm sure. Running back and forth to tables. He definitely had some mistakes that he had to remake with our table, but him as a person, he was kind. Overall, if you want to bring your kids somewhere, I guess this is an ok place. Not quite sure where to start. Came for a celebratory birthday dinner with family. Part of our party showed up early and were already experiencing very slow service - it's important to know they were not busy. As we got around to ordering it was obvious the server felt put out just doing their job. Here's the deal; this place is lovely for breakfast brunch or lunch but becomes rather Dr Jekyll / Mr Hyde after. Why, I do not know. But my group and I decided they should just not be open after lunch. Dinner came super slow. I started to wonder as I noticed misery on the faces of pretty much all the employees I saw if this place is not a good place to work. My disappointment and brewing anger toward the service became a question of "how do they treat their employees?!" I'll think long and hard before coming back. There are lots more options in the bakery and I probably could have spent all day buying goodies to take home if my wife would have let me! :) I got the Angel Biscuits and Gravy, like I did at the other location and it was as good as it was last time. I've eaten at the Wheatfields in Old Market several times. The food has always been good. The Wheatfields on 103rd has a nice layout. I looked up and noticed some of the trim could use some dusting. I ordered the crab cake benedict, which I've had before. What can go wrong with a dish that has crab cakes sitting on hash browns topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I don't expect the crab cakes to taste like they would at a seafood restaurant sitting on the bay, ocean, etc. The crab cakes were just fine. The poached eggs, however, were overdone. I poked them with my fork and nothing came out. I was very sad. The yolks were pretty much done, which made it difficult, well impossible to spread what should have been gorgeous, creamy yellow yolk onto each bite. The raspberry muffin was good. Baked treats at Wheatfields are always delicious. Two stars seems rough, but I think it's appropriate especially when comparing this one to the one in Old Market. If you have never been to Wheatfields, you should go, but I recommend checking out the one downtown. read more

I could write a flowery love poem about the baked goods in general and the strawberry desserts, but we weren't at Wheatfield's for that this time. Mom's birthday dinner called for hot roast beef, eggs Benedict, and my fave, liver and onions. We had a party of 15 and had a good table set up. With such a large party, some of the plates ended up cold, but the waitress got everything heated up and served back out. A good place to eat with family and a great place to have dessert...Wheatfields is worth a visit. read more

Tried it again. See? I said I would. This time around, my experience was better. If you hate loud noise and being crowded, asked to be seated in the sun room area. MUCH quieter without music, and it doesn't have nearly as much space for humans, so it's so much roomier. There are still way too many menu options, though. We were each given three menus - two pieces of paper menus and one giant book of 10+ pages of choices. It felt like too much. I love choices, but this is bordering on too many. Portions were still amazingly large. No one at the table could finish their meal. However, prices do reflect that. $50 for a three-person breakfast bill with no excess drinks. Definitely could get pricey here. This time around, though, EVERYONE loved their meal. The grilled cheese had three layers of delicious cheese that was oozing out of the sandwich. The banana nutella crepes are literally to die for. I've been eating these crepes everywhere, and NO WHERE has come even come close to the quality that I got here. It was so impressive. Literally. Amazing. The Reuben sandwich was also fantastic. The person who ordered that said that he always orders Reubens and it's his favorite sandwich - and this is the best one he thinks he's ever had in his life. That's high praise. Service was okay. Nothing super amazing, but it was efficient and drinks were given on time despite them being swamped and all that. Food was served quickly too. Parking is still a giant pain in the butt. They clearly do not have a parking lot to accommodate everyone they can seat. We had to park on the road. Again. Building still feels more-than-a-touch crowded. With how popular it is, I think the only solution is really to expand the building itself to be able to space out the tables and add more - because they usually have a line of people waiting to eat. Went here to celebrate husband's birthday. Server was very helpful. Women's bathroom mirror was dirty and needed cleaning. Seated in booth right by bathrooms watching everyone enter and exit bathrooms. Parking was horrible. No hostess to greet us upon entering restaurant Blueberry pancakes were scorched affecting the flavor of pancakes. Sides bacon and sausage were good. My French toast was disappointing it lacked flavor and tasted old. Scrambled eggs were yummy! Bakery department was unorganized and cluttered. Ordered Christmas sugar cookie with frosting. We planned a brunch for a birthday and had asked well in advance for a reservation for 12 people. When we arrived the table was not ready. 'They quickly pulled a round table With a rectangle. Service was very slow and in organized. The Cake ordered two days ahead did not arrive at the table until an hour later. The staff was not pleasant and very Arbuthnot. On my quest for good salads I ordered the Brown Derby Cobb Salad. As you can see it comes in a rather sizable bowl that is truly loaded with bacon, hard boiled eggs, chicken, avocado, tomatoes and cheddar cheese. I asked for the bleau cheese on the side to give my friend to enjoy on her sandwich because I despise it. It also came with a peppercorn vinaigrette dressing. The salad came with everything right but the waiter gave me bleau cheese dressing on the side. When I asked for the Vinaigrette dressing that was supposed to come with it he just brought oil and vinegar! I gave up trying to get the correct dressing and just ate the salad, which would have been perfect if I had gotten the correct dressing. I was really unimpressed with the service we received from this waiter. He ruined my meal. He also brought our drinks in tiny glasses. Normally we get our drinks in bigger glasses and get much better service from other waitstaff. This guy seemed absent minded. I love this restaurant, it's one of my very favorites and I would recommend it to anyone. I guess we just went on the wrong day or got a bad waiter. 07-04-18 My wife and I went back for breakfast today and once again the aromas, the quality and preparation of the food made for an enjoyable breakfast. Lois had their Almond Butter French Toast - Two thick slices of their House Almond Butter Bread with the almonds baked right in "Egg Battered" & griddled golden brown. Served with 2 crispy bacon strips, Baked Apples, Whipped Butter & Maple Syrup. The bacon was cooked just the way she liked it, very crisp. The almond slices added taste and a different texture to the toast. After everything my son-in-law had said about the hash, I had to order their Corned Beef Hash & Eggs - 2 Scrambled Eggs & Corned Beef Hash served with Ciabatta Toast & Bumbleberry Jam. I also added a side of their Butcher's Slab Bacon - 3 Big Thick Strips of their Ultimate Bacon Specialty. It turned out that his raving was justified, this is some of the best Corned Beef Hash that I had in a long time. The bacon is think and juicy and I'll rate it among the best in Omaha. Now for the negative, once again it was the service. Our waitress was mechanical in performing her duties, not very social or attentive. When she was walking around the room, it was like she had blinders on, it was hard to get her attention. Onetime we had to get the host to refill our coffee, because we couldn't get her attention. She also didn't bring my wife's complete order, she never got the Baked Apples. Two visits in a row with less than stellar service, not bad enough to prevent us from returning, but it does diminish from the value, since this is not an inexpensive breakfast restaurant and reducing my rating from a 4 star to a 3 star. read more
