On a frigid morning we decided to have breakfast whilst doing errands. Joe's Cafe seemed like a good choice. Our waitress was very friendly and definitely a people person who enjoyed her job. The bright yellow walls are cheerful and the booth was comfortable. There's more seating in back. Joe's Cafe has been around for 83 years, but the interior facelift does not reflect this age. Bookguy decided on steak and eggs with hash browns. He added a single pork chop just to see what it was like. He loved the steak, which was large and perfectly cooked. The pork chop was a tad dry, but the over easy eggs were just as he likes them and the hash browns crispy. I decided to try the diced corn beef with hash browns and scrambled eggs. I asked for minimal oil in the cooking, which resulted in a nicely flavored dish of crispy beef chips and crunchy hashbrowns. It was enough for two meals. Was there in November just a little past the lunch rush. Firstly be aware they have very limited hours, closing about 2 pm. Secondly it is very small Ordered a breakfast....an omlet The food was well prepared and generous. Service was also very good Had a chance to talk with he manager because arriving towards closing was the last person to leave, but think we enjoyed talking with each other. For me this is well of any beaten path I have, but look forward to returning...Am not sure what will want to try the next time as the food was very good. Was told they make their own hamburgers so that is an option. Be aware the building is old, but inside it felt very clean. something to recommend and I noticed. This used to be one of my favorite breakfast places for years I went there with friends 1-2 times a week the food was great everyone welcoming and happy ! now it has become a nightmare ! Bad management, hostile environment, the best waitress's walking out, unhappiness you now longer get smiles, you get Waite staff on the verge of tears from stress and fear reeks from the staff, The management did and is threatening to ban patrons from the restaurant, for asking about what is wrong this is no longer a good place to visit I gave them a 5 star rating before but I drop that to a 1 because of all the unjust behavior of the new management! read more

Good old fashioned diner. Booth and counter seating available. Hours have changed due to COVID. Hours on the door says 7 am to 2 pm Monday - Friday. I did not see weekend days or hours. Masks are required to enter. Staff are wearing masks as well. I sat at the counter. Staff is friendly. Menu is a good combination of breakfast, lunch plates and sandwiches. I went with the Hangover Omelette. Eggs, three types of cheese with sausage, bacon and ham along with veggies served with white gravy over top and a side of hash browns and toast. Extremely tasty. Terrible place. Please do not go here. My family and I sat at 10:30, and still did not get our food and we just ended up leaving at 11:30 when the server brought one out of our 7 orders out and it was not the right plate. First of all, Leavenworth cafe is gone and there just is no equal. So with that being said, Joe's Cafe is worth a visit. I ride by there often and they always looked packed, so I was glad to finally go, my GF's took me there for birthday breakfast. The spot has a definite old diner vibe, which I totally dug. I got the hangover omelet with extra sausage gravy. It was a huge portion, took me 2 days to eat it all, however the sausage gravy was just ok as where the biscuits. The eggs for the omelet were way over cooked, but the coffee was delicious and the service was awesome. It is decent basic diner food and you won't go wrong checking them out, I enjoyed it more than Lisa's. So I give 3.5 stars. read more

What more could you want from a diner? Good food, friendly staff, never-ending coffee refills and cleanliness! Maybe the food quality stepped it up a notch when the new owners took over but from what we could tell today everything (especially the chicken-fried steak) was very, very decent. Obviously know what you're getting into... This is an open air diner, not a bistro brunch. But when you're awake and hungry at 8am on a Sunday, this is a good option. The corned beef hash & eggs combo w/ toast (Al's Favorite) was more food than I could handle. And I do regret not ordering the chicken fried steak... Especially because I pushed Bill to and it turned out to be so crispy-crunchy delicious. Yes, I also have a soft spot for that white gravy. Our standard French toast side order was right on the money too. Thick-cut Texas-toast style with plenty of warm syrup and butter packets to go with! Total ticket price? Under $20 for two. The food was really good today. I love link sausage, and the scrambled eggs were fluffy and fresh. Service, however, was sorely lacking. It wasn't busy when we arrived. We ordered, after 15 minutes or so. We waited nearly 40 minutes for our food, while others had come in, dined and departed. The food was ultimately delivered by another server, and mine was cold. I stuck my finger in the hashbrowns, and boy, very crispy and cold. My companion's omelette was cool, as well. He didn't receive his toast OR large glass of milk. I received no toast. I had ordered a cup of coffee, and that's what they served. One cup. My cup was finally refilled as we were leaving. Good coffee, but, I would have paid for a second cup had they brought it earlier. All tolled, we were there one hour 15 minutes. The people are nice, the restaurant is clean, food's worth eating. IF they remember you are there, and IF you get your proper order. read more

We are on the hunt for a good hole in the wall breakfast place and this is almost it. The food here was actually amazing and the prices along with that are great! However the service lacked. Although apologetic about being short staffed that still doesn't make up for asking for butter for pancakes and not ever getting it so having to get up and ask someone else. Getting brought cold toast with no butter or jelly and then asking for another toast and never receiving it. I NEVER send food back but what was I going to do with that plain cold unbuttered toast with no jelly or anything? Maybe people eat toast plain and I'm the weird one -- either way. My request was ignored by a very young sever who looked very hesitant and never came back to our table again. My fiancé absolutely loved his skillet and my eggs and hashbrowns were perfect. Maybe consider putting condiments such as butter for pancakes and butter and jelly for toast etc on the plate with the food so the guest doesn't have to ask and thus making the servers job easier. I will 100% be coming back and hoping I can change my review to all positive things -- the place was swamped and I'm curious to see if this was a fluke deal and if it will improve next time we return! read more

I believe this is an under-rated cafe from what I can see. If you want a good hearty breakfast and you live in the area this is one shouldn't be missed. The prices are very competitive compared to the diners further east. If you can find a better breakfast and beverage under 10 dollars, please let me know! I think part of the charm, it's a casual neighborly kind of cafe. Very friendly waitresses, who will welcome you with a smile. I recommend Al's favorite, Chicken fried steak combo, or the Blackstone special; Texas Toast sized french toast, side of meat and an egg. I recommend they re-think their coffee. My wife and I stopped in for breakfast, it was our first time there. The cafe is a perfect fit for the Benson area. It is small and very friendly and from what I could see it has a returning clientele. There is nothing extraordinary about the food, it is just good and there is plenty of it. I had the daily special which was Biscuits & Gravert on a bed of hash browns with two eggs on top. My wife had a three cheese omelette with hash browns and bacon. The bacon was extra crispy, exactly as she likes it. The hash browns were perfectly cooked, with a crispy crust. If you combine the food, friendly service and the prices, I think it would be hard to match the cafe. I couldn't find a menu online, so I've uploaded picture for anyone to look at. read more
