This place is like a second home to us. We live in nearby Berry Creek and during the school
Year our family eats dinner here nearly once a week. We thought we were special, with lots of conversation with the staff and owners, great service and small tokens of appreciation from them, such as Japanese soda for the kids. However, over the years we've learned that it's how they treat everyone. We don't need to be special. We just really appreciate a local business that obviously tries to connect with the customers, and by extension, the community at large. I guess this explains why there are tons of regulars. So many, in fact, that we recognize other regulars and have made friends with them, too! That's super rare for a restaurant.
The menu is a combination of a fairly extensive list of Japanese dishes as well as sushi/sashimi, along with more standard Chinese fare, including all the American favorites and a few more adventurous choices. All are prepared fresh, and quality is very good. We've eaten our way through a good deal of the menu, and there's nothing I
Would suggest avoiding. Portion sizes are good. Despite being regulars, we always over-order. You'd think we would have learned after four years! Sushi rolls are as expensive as any of the other local choices, but we have learned that Wasabi actually does sushi better than any of the local competitors. I enjoy Chinese noodles. A very good choice is the wonton soup with noodles, seafood and meats. A large, beautiful dish and is surprisingly inexpensive. The first time we ordered it, we were awestruck when this huge bowl overflowing with fresh, steaming ingredients arrived.
The restaurant underwent a series of renovations recently and looks very nice and rather sophisticated. There is a small sushi bar with seating for around six to eight people. Lighting is appropriately subdued, and the overall vibe is relaxed. Casual attire is fine. Maybe change out of your job site attire before heading over, but I've seen all kinds there. Very family friendly. We join up with another family every few weeks and have a joint family meal with lots of adults and kids. They handle these unannounced visits with aplomb. And they have room to make large tables.
Georgetown isn't a food desert, but the local restaurants know they have a somewhat captive audience, in that residents don't want to brave rush hour traffic to go to Round Rock or Austin during the week. Our family can tell which restauranteurs really care about their food and their customers, and which are just going through the motions for a buck. Wasabi is definitely the former. Our family has lived in NYC, San Francisco, Seattle Dallas and Las Vegas, among others. When we plopped down in a sleepy (for us!) little Texas burg, we never expected to have a regular dining experience that would be reminiscent of the more charming choices of those big cities. It's not a Michelin-star experience, but it doesn't have to be. Dining at Wasabi is just comfortable, friendly and tasty. read more
