My husband and I were traveling through Monroe to another destination but decided to spend the night and catch some dinner. We decided to eat here on a recommendation from a family member who use to live in the area. The food did not disappoint. They brought us out some jalapeño hush puppies to munch on with our chicken sausage gumbo. I am not a fan of jalapeños but my husband can't get enough. We both had the chicken sausage gumbo because who comes to Louisiana and doesn't eat gumbo. The roux was dark brown and just the right amount of creamy thickness, chunks of tender chicken and sausage. This gumbo had some okra in it, which I was happy to see because we love okra in our gumbo. I had the fried catfish and the breading nice and crispy and not too thick. I decided to have a baked potato with mine and it was loaded with all the goodies. My husband had the blackened catfish and he said it was as good as any he has ever had and he has had plenty. He ordered the asparagus which was crunchy and crisp. We both split the bread pudding on a recommendation from our server. It was a little too sweet for me but husband really enjoyed his. Located in an old warehouse on the Oachita River, Warehouse No. 1 is one of the best fancy 'night out' options you can get in Monroe. Setting: Oachita River bank, parking is available and you can get complimentary valet as well. The interior is rustic and the live music is a nice touch. Upon walking in, I was greeted with exceptional professionalism and sat right away. I was able to be seated on the deck outside which was nice with a river view. The music was at a very nice level. The server was very friendly and came right away and took my order. She brought me complimentary quickly. The hush puppies were some of the best that I have had in a very long time. I ordered the Eggplant Pontchartrain. It was excellent and the portion was very large. I was very full after finishing the meal. (I did think the price was a bit high when I saw it on the menu but after getting the meal, I thought it was appropriate. We loved the food, the atmosphere, and the view from our seat was beautiful! We loved the live piano! The only issue we had with our dining experience was unfortunately the service. It started off well, but after we received our first drinks from the bar and the food runner brought out our meal, our waiter NEVER returned to our table. He never came by to check on us, make sure everything came out fine, or ask us if we wanted a refill from the bar. I was hoping for a second glass of wine, never got it. He wasn't rude, but he also wasn't very present. So, while our overall experience with the restaurant was wonderful, our service was disappointing. We are very easy going and do not require a lot of attention. But it was lacking. We will go back, hopefully with a little better luck on the service. read more

Nice place w/good food, too bad they ran us off tonight. I have never seen so many people waiting to be seated (40-50 at least). God help you if you didn't have a reservation. Had a 6:30 pm reservation and arrived at 6:20. After waiting around 15 minutes, I asked how long the wait was and they said 30-45 minutes (with a reservation!) At 6:55 my wife said no more and we left. At that time there was barely any place for any new customer to stand at the entrance door. There were telling new customers that the wait would be a "few" minutes. Good thing the fire marshal didn't decide to drop in. I was in Monroe for a quick business trip and found this restaurant on Yelp. All I have to say is that this place is truly a gem in this town! It's located on a river and has a beautiful outdoor area. The restaurant itself is an old converted warehouse with many of its original structural pieces in place. It was absolutely gorgeous inside. I was dining alone so I had no issues getting seated, but if you are with a larger party I would suggest reservations. It was very busy for a weekday evening. The waitress and hostess were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered way more than my stomach could handle, but everything on the menu sounded so good! The fried green tomatoes were perfectly seasoned and had a perfect tomato to breading ratio. The grilled shrimp and asparagus were also fantastic and came with some sort of Mango salsa that blew my mind. Even the hush puppies that were brought to the table like a bread basket were perfect. Seriously the best hush puppies I've ever had and I've grown up in the south! If I ever get a chance to come Back into Monroe, I will definitely be back.
